Went with a large group for work Christmas party, food was great and the staff were very friendly and helpful catering to my specific food allergies! We had a lovely time and I even stopped in the bar for a drink before heading home afterwards

Nice pub with a beer garden. Dog friendly, nice service, delicious food.

Nice pub showing football and with a large seating area outside. Good selection of beers and ciders as well as non-alcoholic. Food however was disappointing. Had 3 small dishes for £13.50. Three small pieces of fried chicken, three small chicken strips (both of which would be worth about 50p in total from the freezer section of any budget supermarket) and three pork belly bites which on the menu were described as 'crispy'. The fat on the pork belly was soggy and not rendered in the slightest and yet the meat was tough, this really was poor. Might need a re-think on how that dish is advertised. Good pub, but based on my experience, I wouldn't eat here again.

Sat in the beer garden on a lovely sunny day and a chap called Geoff came to talk to us lovely local man that gave us a bit of local history.

I think they must have been having an off day, as every other time I've been here for a meal it's been excellent. My sister ordered a veggie burger from the wonderful menu, but received a beef burger instead. Fortunately, she's not a vegetarian or vegan, but avoids red meats nonetheless. To give them credit, it was quickly rectified, so not much damage was done, though I believe in getting it right first time is what they need to aim for. I chose the Salmon and Dill Fishcakes, which sounded delicious. However, it mainly tasted of potato and only one mouthful tasted of any salmon. At least my Apple Crumble and Custard pudding was fabulous to make up for it. As I said earlier, I've eaten here a number of times over recent years and it's always been very impressive in the past so I put the latest time as an off day.

Lovely village pub with friendly staff

We had a great stay here for 1 night. No facilities, only you can dispose of your household waste. The restaurant opens at 5 p.m. Make sure you are there before then, otherwise you run the risk of the parking lot being full. The restaurant does not offer an extensive menu, but the food is good and affordable. In short, a great place for 1 night

Best steak and kidney pudding in the country! I'm not arguing on this !

Had a great meal, friendly service, good atmosphere. We came because it is a Britstop site but found the car park very small and busy for the motorhome. However the meal was a good compensation!

Excellent food and friendly service.

The food was excellent with generous portion sizes. The octopus was cooked to perfection—tender and not chewy at all. The fish was both flavorful and tender, a truly delightful experience! The oysters were slightly small but still tasty.

We went for a family meal today with a party of 10. The staff were welcoming and the building was easy to access, food delicious and very reasonably priced. All of us had something different and there were no complaints. I wanted to write this review as a SEND parent, we usually find it difficult to go out to eat and I was very nervous about our visit today but the staff could not do any more to help us. My youngest needed a highchair as he couldn't sit on the regular chairs, however the highchair was suited more to babies/young toddlers and his legs were too high for the tray to rest on top. The lady (I assume manager) was amazing, she got a screwdriver out and adjusted it for us there and then, without making us feel uncomfortable. My eldest struggled being on a bus table and the outdoor area was perfect (and safe) for her to pop out with us for a little break. We then had the wonderful waitress Mia, she was just amazing. She made special "cocktails" (J2o's) for my daughter so she could join in on the party, stopped meltdowns spiralling by just being wonderfully kind and we honestly felt so welcome. Can't recommend highly enough as somewhere families can enjoy a meal whilst still feeling welcome no matter the need... which is rare!! Thank you x

Nice cosy pub that serves some great food, great atmosphere

The food was lovely. I really enjoyed the atmosphere. We were served quickly and the staff were very polite and happy. You really need to book as there are not that many tables. The lunchtime menu was varied and the staff changed the fries for potatoes, on the steak and ale pie, even though potatoes were not on the menu. Great lunch out.

Nice local pub on the outskirts of Grantham

Today me and my dad went to this lovely pub for a Sunday roast, cannot fault the service and the food was delicious. The staff are faultless and look after you very well.

Attended a wake here. Nice room, good finger buffet. Recommended

Came here with my family for a birthday meal and it's safe to say that we weren't disappointed! Lovely food, very clean and great service from our charming blonde and bubbly waitress (I'm sorry I didn't catch your name) who was so cheerful despite the heat! We had the roast beef, roast pork and a tuna baguette- the meat was beautifully done with plenty of extra vegetables. Prompt service and not rushed at all! Looking forward to our next visit ☺️

Unfortunately my partner and I had a bad experience, we both had a Sunday dinner some parents were cold in the middle and tasteless. We were compensated with two drinks free of charge. The place is lovely so would return for drinks.

Have been to Recruiting Sergeant and I am always amazed how friendly and welcoming the staff are. There is a bar area in front and restaurant part in the back, some tables available outside too and decent sized car park. The food is nice, prepared up to the standards and tasty. The only little cons for a small portion of vegetables served with main. Also, the staff is happy to swap extra like chips for potatoes and that's very accommodating. Good choice of starters, mains and puddings that I recommend to everyone as they're super delicious.

Went for sunday lunch,food and service was first class. My only gripe was that there wasn't much veg. A small dish for 4 people. We asked for more but only peas and carrots left. The vegetarian choices were also limited . However we had booked for 2.30pm so maybe an earlier booking might have seen more choice. Would recomend though, nice venue.

This place is a little gem of a local pub. Great outdoor space and busy little bar area. The restaurant area is well layed out and not too cramped. They have live music and theme nights on, and the staff are attentive and friendly. Really is a great find. Have eaten here a couple of times and the portions are on the larger side. The chicken burger is well worth a look. Also they have a great choice of draught and bottled beers and larger. Also prices are keen.

We have only ever stopped for a pint or three. It's local and charming. There is also a book swop just around the corner. So it's a great excuse for us to go and swop books and "Might aswellhaveapintwhilewearehere," excuse. X

Had lunch with my Daughter and Partner here on a visit to Norfolk. Food was exceptional and as I couldn't finish my "short ribs" the waitress kindly boxed them up for me to take home. All round a very pleasurable lunch

A day’s shopping at Downtown? Take a lunch break at this super village pub. Great menu choice and a fulfilling Sunday Lunch is available too. A few minutes away by car or easily walkable if you’re visiting Downtown by coach.

All very good the staff was very nice and look after us all very well, there was 7 of us, we only had to ask if we wanted anything extra they brought it to the table, we all enjoyed our meal very much

Very nice food but the service not very good

I love the Recruiting Sergeant. The staff are all really friendly and nothing is too much trouble. There is food on the menu to suit everyone. Ample parking and a lovely outdoor seating area (for when it's a bit warmer). It has a lovely atmosphere when you walk in, and a great selection of beer and wine.

Food excellent. Although currently understaffed they ploughed on with smiles

Went for a Christmas party on Thursday. Fantastic food, good service and an enjoyable atmosphere. Alison has a good team around her. Glad the Recruiting Sergeant is my local.

First time around this area. Off the cuff called in for a pint. Pleasant service. Good cold 🥶 pint. That’s what I went in for that’s what I got. I will be calling in again when I’m back this way.

Went for lunch and the restaurant side was very busy but didn't have to wait long and food was hot when it arrived and was very tasty. Excellent service and hospitality, we will be returning soon
