Good food and drinks here. The staff are attentive and friendly. The location is convenient with parking close by. Millie looked after us very well. The high ceilings, outside spaces and dog friendly nature of the coffee house were the main draw but the Quesadillas are superb. Surprised it was so quiet on a sunny Sunday afternoon. Maybe the locals keep this gem a secret so they can always get a table. Joking apart I ll be back to try the chocolate Guinness cake .

Came for brunch, garlic mushrooms with cheese on toasted sourdough with a poached egg; very good, lovely crunch to the crust of the toast. Rarebit with poached egg, also on sourdough was also very well received. Tea was fair trade, loose leaf and good. I'll be back.

This review is about one visit, as a vegan for breakfast. I will definitely return to try other menu options and then write a fuller review. The vegan breakfast was served on a side plate which for bigger appetites might be disappointing. small but However they’ve used really good quality, more expensive ingredients than are commonly used. I couldn’t quite finish it and you could always ask for an extra sausage or more toast. I think they could have made it look bigger by using a dinner plate. The only thing I would add is that several components of the meal had added flavours. So the mushrooms were herby, the excellent beans were delicious with a strong tomato and onion base that wouldn’t be out of place with pasta. The guacamole was good, a little thin and slightly watery texture wise. Just small details in the prep and personal preference. The service was excellent. The toilets clean. The coffee - yes very well made and the oat milk was reasonable. Again, personal preference, the vegan latte could benefit from a barista oat milk. It just gives a more neutral background and richer creamier feel. The menu is extensive and they offer a kids choice, always gets an extra tick from me. This place is somewhere to feel comfortable as a group, family, cosy couple or solo. I enjoyed being here. The environment and styling is really perfect. Great atmosphere, a level of privacy between the tables and music just at the right audible setting to create a vibe and more privacy. Would I return? Yes. Could there be improvements? Yes. But I think that’s often vegan life. A lot of vegan food tries to either replicate the meat versions or can frequently overcompensate by being too flavoured instead of standing by its own value- like the guac- some fresh slices might have worked better. And I would add that next time I would mention some preferences on ordering and I’m sure the staff would accommodate. For example , a double shot of coffee.

This is in a back street in Uppermill, a popular walking & tourist town. It's a little hidden away on a backstreet & appears to have been an old workshop, hall, school at one time. The place is very quirky & certainly not your run of the mill cafe. The building has a tremendous homely atmosphere, it feels of wood & iron, of craft & work. It's a large place & clearly a social destination for the local community. At the time of our visit there were quite a few young Mums & ladies who lunch meeting up. In summation, great atmosphere. Of course, I have been wobbling on about the atmosphere but what about the comestibles I hear you ask. Good solid home cooked food I would say. We had soup & panini with salad. It was good as was the coffee & cake.

We ate here recently and the both the food and the service were excellent. I thought the bill was excellent value for money. My only criticism is that the tables are very close together. Uppermill is blessed with a lot of coffee shops but I like the unfussy approach and excellent customer service of Reclamation Rooms. It's definitely not pretentious - it's more a kind of shabby chic. The coffee is excellent and the food is a delight. However, I'm afraid I'm addicted to the Smashed Avocado with Chillies on Sourdough, which is just heaven. My wife occasionally goes off piste and has the Mushrooms on Toast.I also like the progressive approach as they now have a space for more environmentally friendly purchasing of spices; pasta; washing liquids etc. We will need to get ourselves sorted to use this excellent facility.I also like the fact that they will serve you at your table, so you're not involved in long queues!

Visited with friends for lunch. I had been previously (and loved the food) but the other three had not. The decor is a bit too shabby chic for me but this does not put me off the excellent food. All four of us struggled to decide from a good menu and all four felt we had made good choices. Two of us had varieties of salad which had unusual and imaginative ingredients making his much more than just “salad”. Our friends’ choices were equally as good. With difficulty we resisted the fab looking. home-made cakes (only because we were eating out again later) but we promised ourselves another cake-based visit. As others say, Uppermill has a lot of choice but we are most likely to stick with this lovely food. Have to say that the staff serving us were delightful: efficient, helpful, pleasant, not at all like some other reviews. At a busy time (Saturday lunch) we waited for a very reasonable short time before getting our food. No complaints and a lot of praise.

We visited for lunch today with friends. We sat outside and, initially, were the only ones there. We had to ask for a waiter to take our order. In the meantime, another family came in, yet got served long before we did, even though we had arrived first. We then had to ask where our order was. The food was good, yet arrived before our cutlery, but coffee arrived in a glass without a handle, and was too hot to pick up. A Coke arrived with a very small glass, and I asked for a lime with soda, which they didn't have. Neither was there any ice, and yet this cafe was licensed.

We dropped in for afternoon tea. Top marks for a great flat white with oat milk. The cakes are homemade. I had the best fruit scone with clotted cream and raspberry jam. I don’t usually even eat jam but this version of the tea time staple was the stuff that dreams are made of. My son enjoyed his thick slice of chocolate cake. Others were eating some lovely looking toasted sandwiches which came with salad. The room itself is full of plants, bright spacious and inviting. The ambience is relaxed. Staff are friendly and helpful. There’s a garden out back and dogs are welcome in the cafe. Afterwards browse the shop for gifts, an incredible range of unusual plants, reclaimed furniture and a general rustic chic vibe. The shop is good for home decor inspiration and it’s difficult leaving without finding a ‘must have’.

When making our menu choices...the soup we weren't sure about so we were brought a little cup to try...we were glad we did..is was one of the nicest soups Ive ever had..sweet potato and coconut...works very well...so that was the choice accompanied by a very nice toastie that was clearly is made up of great fresh produce. My 5 year old opted for the children's snack box which came presented in a lovely picnic type box with different items in...he loved it. There is also a lot more to this place than the fabulous cafe...upcycled items for sale..classes in the week where new skills can be learned such as painting etc. We will be back very soon for our Sunday brunch.

This is a real find in Uppermill. Scona serves really interesting and unusual dishes and a variety of truly delicious scones in an unusual setting just outside the centre of the village. Coffee is good and the large room means that there is more space available than at other cafes in Uppermill. Highly recommended!

My girlfriend booked afternoon tea, but with a Valentine's twist! She was in contact with Scona midweek to add a more personalized touch! They obliged above and beyond our expectations! The food was excellent, a nice selection of sandwiches, scones and cake! We would definitely recommend this place and it will be our 'go to' place when we are in Uppermill! Thank you!

What a lovely café! Everything is "reclaimed". Quirky ideas. Saw high tea being served in cute wooden boxes. looked fab! Great attention to detail. My friend and I had homemade soup and a savoury scone. Delicious soup served in an enamel mug. Cheese scone light as a feather. Would definitely recommend and would definitely return. Lovely atmosphere - Deserves every success.

I went here when it first opened and it was ok but not great (service time, food options running out etc). However, things seemed to have settled down and it was a much better experience this time. The scones and tea were lovely, and the staff were mostly friendly & welcoming.

Popped in to Scona for lunch today on the recommendation of various friends who are regulars ... I rode there on my bike with a friend, and we parked up in the back garden out of the way. As we entered the cafe, one of the staff behind the counter sniggered "Oh look, Lance Armstrong just walked in". Maybe he thought this was hilarious, but it made me feel like i was being taking the mickey out of (I was). I should have walked out, but am too polite. I should have said something (maybe pointed out his desperate need for a haircut and shave), but am too shy and too well mannered. Instead, we ordered food and coffee and I sat there feeling like I was being laughed at the whole time. His mother obviously did a fine job. Their menu is also littered with spelling mistakes ("avacado" anyone?) ... but now i am being picky because they upset me.

Excellent food and all home made!!! Old School Room and quirky. Lovely staff and service and helpful Water dispenser with lemon for free, you just help yourself. Popped over today to pick up a macrame planter & have some of their acclaimed soup after teaching Pilates in Huddersfield. Very happy with my planter, made by local woman who's been making them for decades! Got there just after 2 (still lunch time in my book) & they'd run out of soup . Hade a lovely plate of different salads instead. Would have rated this GOOD TO VERY GOOD if that option was available: great venue; great idea; just not much choice of food & service affable but bit scatty.

Discovered the Hidden Garden over a year ago now and it’s one of my favourite places to go. Great coffee (no additional charges for milk alternatives), beautiful views and dog friendly! The little treats they serve your dog are an added bonus (no charge either!) my pooch loves a visit. We have been in all weathers, although most of the seating area is outside there are some wonderful covered nooks to curl up with blankets galore and even a pizza stove burning logs to keep you warm in the winter. The cakes and food are delicious and the additional pop up food stalls they host are brilliant. Highly recommend for a cosy catch up away from the high street bustle.

Nice place and great service .had Sunday roast Beef . Beef fatty . Don’t thinks it’s topside cut ?? Plenty of gravy , but it needs a small gravy boat for the big Yorkshire pudding which was the best, roast puds hard veg very nice , would go back . Just needs little tweeks . I’m local to this pub just being honest

Stopped to have a glance at the menu as decided on Sunday breakfast out. Chatting away to a chap, the owner I think, made to feel very welcome. Good choice of different dishes, decided on the Rarebit and "A Bit Of Both On Toast", which was lovely cheese and homemade baked beans. Both were delicious and good coffee to boot. And our furry companions loved the fussing and the doggie menu! Planning a return visit soon for Sunday lunch!
