Raja Monkey - Harborne in Birmingham

It was one of the tastiest dishes we had in a while. Both Yasir and Arusha were excellent at providing us with advice and they also gave my husband a wonderful treat for his birthday with the yummy brownie dessert. We will definitely come back. Thank you!

First time dining at Raja Monkey Restaurant in Harborne with my husband and another couple this evening. The food is outstanding in quality, flavours, and menu choice and cooked to perfection. Tasteful decor, tables well spaced out with comfy seating. Wonderful service received from Naz and Arusha. Very welcoming and friendly. All in all a wonderful evening had by all on our table. Each one of us saying how delicious the food was we had chosen from the menu. Highly, highly recommended.

Arusha was our server and she was so lovely! Knew a lot about the menu and suggested some delicious cocktails for us ! One of us couldn’t have gluten and she made sure everything we ordered was safe.

First time here, what can I say, the service is excellent, friendly and attentive without being pushy. the food is divine, the layout of the restaurant is really suited to the mood. My wife and I visited on a Tuesday evening (last night) so it wasn't heaving but it was still busy enough. I can only imagine the vibe in this place on a weekend. We will definitely return. Top marks.

Great Indian restaurant, at the quieter end of Harborne away from some of the more of the rowdier bars. The food is well made and served promptly, the cocktails are tasty, and the staff were attentive and helpful. Special shout-out to Arusha for making our evening run smoothly.

I thought the food tasted really good with good sized portions. Just wasnt unique and the greaseproof paper just made the food look cheap, I get it's mental to be street food but just isn't needed.

My second visit to Raja Monkey and as before, the service and food were excellent! Every dish is flavourful and well presented and Arusha who served us was friendly and attentive. This place is perfect for when you want to get a bit more dressed up to go out for an Indian meal, but don’t want to pay the high prices of Asha’s and Lasan’s. You won’t be disappointed by the quality of the food on offer!

Simply outstanding food (butter chicken to die for) and service (Arusha deserving particular mention) - this is probably the best Indian food I’ve tasted in a very long time.

Ate early this evening. Served mainly by Arusha. She was friendly and explained everything we needed to know about the menu. Arusha made me the best chilli sour cocktail ever. Also served by her male colleague . Again ultra friendly and efficient.The food was delicious and beautifully presented . We will be returning very soon.

The staff were friendly, place was clean. Disappointed with the food as the meat samosas did not have much meat filling. The main chicken dish did not stay warm for long. I had to ask three times for water and received it 30 minutes later.

The food a little lacking in spice levels yet it was delicious nonetheless and the service was good 👍

We had booked Raja Monkey for our son's first birthday party. The experience was excellent from start to finish. Abhishek was the manager dealing with our event, and he provided brilliant service, taking good care of all our requirements. The staff was professional, the food was delicious and the ambience was delightful. Our guests were very impressed, and we were too. Would definitely recommend.

It’s been a while since we wanted to check out this place. We generally avoid a bit high end Indian restaurants as we mostly make all rare recipes at home since we usually eat it day to day. But we thought why not try here since we were on holiday. The ambience and music was top class and of course the modernised Indian designs were good too. We ordered for Mutton samosas and Chicken briyani. I asked for some warm turmeric water as I had some cough and cold. Samosa was freshly made and the meat fillings were quite flavourful. The briyani was brilliant as the chicken was tender and soft since it was marinated well enough.

Great service but the food was a little too salty for our taste. Pretty pricey, 2 mains with 2 rice and 1 masala fries, a total of 3 drinks and 1 shared dessert, bill was £87. It’s a good restaurant, but I would not rush back.

Incredible food & attentive service. Had such a lovely meal and the cocktails were really tasty too. The fish starter was delicious and cooked well. Our mains were great too, definitely met our expectations and more!

Food was pretty bland- had to ask for sauce to add some flavour! Also no choc mint with the bill- disappointing!!

The food is ok for an Indian authentic taste. The biryani was soaking in oil which made it soggy. The mains were ok but not worth the price they charge. I know few Indian restaurants were the taste is better and more authentic. Ok for one time visit to try put but we wouldn't return.

Ordered the butter chicken, rice and nan for delivery! The chicken was RAW!! So dangerous! Tried and tried to get through to someone but phone just rings out! Please be careful!! Posted photo as unable to actually speak to anyone. Will be calling food standards agency tomorrow - this could put an individual in hospital or worse!! I did complain to Deliveroo and sent them a photo, who refunded onto my account the butter chicken (that’s the only dish I complained about) but it all went in the bin, I certainty wouldn’t trust or take the chance of eating anything else from there, my life is precious!

Very nice decor and atmosphere here with good service. We ordered the Monkey mixed grill platter and squid pakoras which are both on the dry side, but that wasn’t an issue at all and all the food are flavourful, especially enjoyed the nilgiri tikka and cod.

Have been meaning to try this place since it opened... finally went in for lunch and I was pleasantly surprised. Really good veg options, loved the paneer lababdar and portobella biryani and the monkey bar dessert was dangerously good!

Top rated because it's well deserved. A unique and slightly off the grid menu served with a friendly attitude.

Walked straight in without a booking on Friday. Immaculately clean, modern and upmarket restaurant. Very attentive, polite and professional service. With Cobra and a respectable wait, my lamb mirch with lemon rice arrived. Exceptional quality and tender cooked in hot spicy gravy with perfectly steamed rice. On completion, having scraped both the curry and rice bowls, I was left with a pleasant hot spice taste in my mouth. Got to be up there with the very best Indian restaurants in the UK. Definitely pop in again on my own, one lunch time without the meme-sab, for another deniable experience.

I enjoyed a relaxed and delicious lunch at Raja Monkey in Harborne. Both the Chicken Tikka starter and the Mutton Kali Mirch main were savoury and well-spiced, with a great depth of flavour. All of the ingredients tasted fresh and the sizes of the portions were well-judged. The Malai Kulfi had a subtle taste of saffron and was not overly sweet. Service from Yasir and Abhi was excellent. Both were very welcoming and attentive.

The food is usually good but went there on 14th Feb, the food was below average. Starters were good, but had bad experience with the mains. It took them 1 hour for the main course to be served, after following up.

Really delicious food and amazing service! A really upscaled Indian, we had a few starters to share and got to try some great new things! I then had the butter chicken which was done really well. Our server Abhi was really friendly and attentive, we had a great evening

Food was delicious with so much flavour, the ambiance in the restaurant was very relaxing; especially the music. Abhi welcomed us in & took us to our table with a lovely smile. Arusha was our waitress & took our orders, she went above & beyond; both worked well along side eachother to make us enjoy our experience in the restaurant. Great decor, atmosphere & ambience Service and staff were also very attentive. Chicken Biryani was disappointing, very bland. Raja Prawns were excellent. Monkey Bar and Brownie were both delicious and ice cream was one of the nicest I’ve had. Coffee was awful. Portion size was a little small, maybe just enough. However, this should reflect in the price, I would say even for Harbourne it’s about 20% over priced. Had a nice evening, but I wouldn’t rush back.

The menu isn't extensive but that is all to the good as the food is beautifully cooked with a great balance of flavours and spices, excellent starters, beautifully cooked rice and lovely springy nan bread and all tasted really fresh. All in a nice atmosphere and nicely decorated space - different to your average curry restaurant. Customer service is excellent too. We've eaten her a couple of times now and will definitely be back.

The food was very nice and flavourful We ordered samosa chat, paneer labadar, butter chicken, mushroom rice, tandoori roti, butternaan and a gin cocktail and a pint of beer. Our meal costs 60 pound The food was excellent and the service was impeccable

Our first visit to Raja Monkey and we really enjoyed it, our experience enhanced by our two waitresses Arusha and Tamsin who were mega helpful and made welcome suggestions. The Poppadums and starters were great and generous portions were appreciated. We shared Portobello biryani and roasted cauliflower for mains which were interesting for their depth of flavour and complemented each other well. We had no room for desserts but enjoyed our wine and lager, chosen from a varied list. Admittedly this was one of the coldest evenings of the year and we were first in but we were cold with the door continually opening for deliveroo drivers hence the 4 rather than 5* review. We will definitely come again.
