We used to live in Barrow u Humber and came back this weekend to see old friends. Decided to visit our favourite old haunt at Raj and wasnt disappointed. Fabulous service, beautiful food all brought out at once and piping hot, with hot plates. Would recommend

Ordered a meal for 2 after calling in ti obtain a menu Had a look at the app to order online but to my amazement the price jumped up from 42 quid to over 51 quid. £2 delivery charged must of had interest added. After waiting over an hour an a half for a delivery around 10 mins away I was shocked that the food was not tepid it was cold. Not a good recommendation and I certainly won't be using them again.

We were in Barton for an evening g concert . Everywhere we went in shops that afternoon every single trader recommended the Raj . Its lovely and clean . the toilets are immaculate (very important to us ) . The service prompt and efficient and friendly . The food was prompt and utterly delicious. I am 70 and now understand what people mean when they say 'the meat melted on my tongue', One of the best curries I ever had and I used to live in the Leeds & Bradford area. Would thoroughly recommend the Raj. I will be returning . In fact since the start of the pandemic have got out of the habit of reviewing places. this was so wonderful/ I had to sit and do my first review since March 2000.

Amazing food and service as always! Me and my partner had a lovely meal on Friday night. We are never disappointed. Mo and his team are great nothing is ever too much trouble for us!

2 hour wait for food, all they’re bothered about is takeaway, very disappointing, left after popadoms,never again. Need to decide if they’re a takeaway or a restaurant

The Raj has been pretty good with previous orders, but after this last experience we won’t be risking it again! We ordered at 6:28 and were given a delivery time just over an hour away which we were happy with. Once it was an hour late we called and were told the food was ready and waiting for the delivery driver. Then after another hour we tried calling again numerous times with no answer. By that point we wanted to cancel and have a refund but no one would answer the phone to allow us to do this. The food finally turned up at 10:47 when we would normally be going to bed! We ended up putting it in the fridge and warming it up the next day as it was far too late to eat, and I imagine it was rather cold if it was prepared several hours before delivery. It tasted nice enough the next day though, just a shame we had to go without a meal on the night of the order. An almost 4.5 hour wait is unacceptable, especially with no option of a refund!

We arrived late-ish in Barton on Sunday evening. After reading reviews on here beforehand we had decided to go to another restaurant but popped into a local pub for a pint first. We asked around for advice on the best Indian restaurant and the locals pointed us to the Raj so we changed our mind and decided to give it a try. On arrival, we were made to feel really welcome by everyone, the service was very good and pretty quick too. Best of all, the food was great. We both asked if they would mind making us something not on the menu and they happily obliged. Do give it a go if you're in Barton looking for a friendly restaurant with good food.

ordered food for 19.30 at 16.10 on Just eat, order was accepted i had left a note saying to please call me if it wasnt going to be collectable at that time and left my mobile number, arrived to collect at 19.25 and was told it would be half an hour, so i left and came back at 19.50, to be met by 7 other customers all waiting for their orders, some were 7pm deliveries which had not arrived so they had gone to collect due to no answer on the phone, the restaurant itself wasnt overly busy only about 4 tables in so this was no excuse, very little apology was offered the manager was nowhere to be seen, finally left with my food at 21.00 again with very little apology. just eat say they cant do anything about it, the restaurant can accept as many orders as they want and give what ever collection time and not be held to it when they fail to meet the time, food was ok.

We have visited here many times over the years and this has always been our go to Indian in Barton. However, we visited tonight and the service was terrible, I really felt sorry for the young lad serving, he was trying his best but the number of takeaway meals were spoiling the experience for those of us eating in the restaurant. There were a number of other diners who were unhappy, and I doubt many of those will return. It seems to be another place that has got used to doing the takeaway / delivery service during the COVID nightmare, but now they are fully open for eat in customers are not staffed to do both. It is a real shame but I doubt we will be returning anytime soon. The food is always lovely, but I am not sitting there while all but one of the serving staff are our delivering takeaways.

Placed an online order for delivery and was only told it would be a 2 hour wait once we had made payment. After 2.5 hours, and the phone being constantly engaged, we ended up having to go to the restaurant. Apparently the meal was just being bagged up, which is hard to believe as when we got it home the food was tepid. We will not be using this restaurant again!

Phoned my order at 6.10, said it would arrive by 7.35. However, it arrived at 8.45 with items missing from the order. When trying to ring after 7.35 it was continuously engaged! Not impressed at all!

A warm welcome greeted the 4 of us, we were shown to our seats and our drink orders taken. We ordered our starters and main courses, the food was delicious and hot, probably the nicest paneer saag I’ve ever had, a very chilled atmosphere, there was no rush and the waiters were very polite, attentive and at times apologetic for a late drinks order (it wasn’t late) also great coffee and a free whiskey for the cold walk home.A very enjoyable evening

What can I say. Service appalling food amazing. If that was was all it would easy, but to expand...The staff are all very nice, however it looks like the restaurant is now taking second place to the takeaway service. We witnessed a lot of disgruntled customers, we were ignored for 45min not even taking a drinks order! The Raj has been our go to Indian restaurant for 20 plus years and I am saddened at this downtown in service.Please go back to putting the people who turn out go visit your restaurant before the the takeaway service, it is not nice seeing multiple takeaway's going out whilst you are waiting and waiting and waiting........and waiting to be served!Ps the food is good, business plan is rubbish as a restaurant.

Went on Friday 10 September very accommodating friendly staff. Nice aroma when inside, ordered drinks not rushed into ordering started with poppadoms and pickles was flavoursome especially impressed with the coconut chutney got stater of Raj platter which was subtle and delicate in flavour, mains of Koria mixed grill Akbori lamb special with sides of mixed vegetable curry Bombay potatoes and cauliflower bhaji . Food was brilliant service friendly . Eyes bigger than belly syndrome and at the end the staff where brilliant packed up what we couldn't eat and the delivery driver even gave us a lift to where I parked my car faultless service would definitely recommend to others thanks for the experience

We always visit this restaurant on our way home from race days at Cadwell Park. Excellent meal and service once again. Love this restaurant.

I have just received takeaway order two hour late and after having to call twice . Delivery service was terrible. On opening order which had grease and oil all over containers to find food half cold ,naan breads cold and dry. This experience was very poor and will not be using again!!!.

Food really nice. Was told 1 hour delivery. After a few calls finally arrived after 2 hours. Not goood service.

Two hour wait for our order, food was cold when it eventually arrived. We chased up the order after one and a quarter hours to be told it would be with us in 10 mins. Just over half an hour later it arrived, but cold /luke warm. The poppadoms were slightly stale but, to be balanced, my lamb tikka masala was tasty.

Ordered a home delivery at 5.30 p.m. I was told that they were very busy and couldn't deliver my order till 8.00p.m which I agreed to. At 8.30 pm it had not arrived so I phoned the Raj and was told that it was on its way. At 9.30 pm it still had not arrived still no news, at 9.45 pm they phoned me to say it would be another 10-15 mins. The food eventually arrived at 10.20 pm. No apologies offered except we have been very busy. We have used the Raj restaurant on a number of occasions and in general the food has been OK. However this is the first time I have requested a home delivery and it will definitely be the last time we use their services.

Ordered a number of takeaway vegetarian curries including Paris and madras all of which were really good. Prompt friendly service. Will not be going elsewhere for takeaway curry.

Decided to eat here after a busy day shopping! Rang at short notice and booked a table, no problem. This is the third time eaten here and like the previous two times, food was delicious. Starter cooked to perfection and main was tasty. Food was delivered to table with time in-between courses so didn't feel rushed. Portion sizes good, left feeling full but not too stuffed! Service good with friendly staff. Will definitely be back

Slightly delayed service but the food itself was up there with the best Indian I’ve eaten. Took a while to take our orders but not for the food to come that’s all. Would recommend if you’re patient and love passing time by talking to the people you’re with, serve Cobra too, my favourite beer.

Ordered delivery. Finally when the food turned up..1 hour late.. it tasted great. But to be repeatedly told it would be with us in the next 10-15 minutes and that the driver was on his way when actually the driver had not even left the restaurant is terrible! The “be patient sweetheart’ line is NOT a good marketing phrase for their delivery service! So.. the Raj.. once and once only!!

Ordered online, without any problems, but then we did have to check that they had received the order. Delivery guy really pleasant and the food great. Will use again and pleased that there is a really good Indian takeaway in the area, as we had become disappointed with the near competition.

Visited tonight for the 1st time in ages food lovely but service shocking booked a table last week for tonight thought it would of been quieter due to the pandemic but place was full more like a Friday or Saturday won't be returning

10 of us visited for a 50th birthday. The food was excellent, could find a fault at all.I had the Lamb Mirchi which was absolutely wonderful, full of flavour and a good amount of meat.My husband had the Chicken Sila which was also wonderful.The service was excellent, really friendly staff despite being very busy and quick service.Our favourite Indian restaurant in the area by a country mile!

We took our 2 grandsons out for a treat, it was great, food exellent and staff so freindly even though it was really busy .

After all the years we have visited the Raj, we have continued to receive excellent food, a warm welcome, and had a very relaxed enjoyable meal. We will all make our own mind up about which restaurants we prefer. For us this is the best.

Went there last night and had a VERY bad stomach about 4 in the morning such a shame really because I have eaten here before without any problems but can't see myself going back as a result

We can never fault this restaurant it is always faultless. I asked for something that wasn't on the menu. Something like chicken tikka Masala but different and what came back was amazing and tasty called "chefs special. All the staff are always very pleasant and helpful.

We ordered a delivery and boy has this place gone downhill.. I don't know if its a change of owner etc but this used to be the place to get Indian food from but now it's way behind.

Visited the Raj Saturday night in January, warm welcome from Sam and made us feel at home all evening! Great food, drink and staff, would definitely recommend and will return.

I can't praise this place enough, not only is the food fabulous, the staff are fabulous. Swift, courteous and have a great sense of humour. I've never been disappointed here ever, always look forward to going, and my last visit on 8th Dec was tip top!

We rarely goto the Raj as the service is so slow. Food takes an inordinately long time to come out. But we decided to give it another go for takeaway as the food itself was fine. Completely the reverse this time. Their mixed Raj starter had a tiny bhaji, single chicken tikka cut in half and a tiny overcooked and dry seekh kebab. Pathetic and overpriced. The main was one of their Bangladeshi chef lamb specials and it was plain, boring. The meat was tender though and tasty. My advice to you is goto the Bengal restaurant for take aways as the portions are huge, well priced and deliver. Or goto the surma.

Came here for dinner on Monday night after pre booking our table. The restaurant was fairly quiet with a small group of 8 and another couple in. Nothing negative can be sad of our evening, all food was beautifully prepared and very tasty, overall it was a thoroughly enjoyable meal and we would definitely return.

I found myself stuck in Barton and in need of a quick meal and chanced on this restaurant. I could not have done better. The food was excellent (I especially liked the naan bread) and the staff were a delight. It was remarkably inexpensive, compared to similar quality in other places.

This is our favourite Indian restaurant in Barton and we get takeaways from there too. It's always well cooked and presented and the staff are lovely. Very welcoming indeed.

We've eaten at The Raj for several years, five or six times a year, usually in the week at 6pm as a pre-concert meal before going to Ropery Hall. The food is excellent, the staff are courteous and friendly, and ordinarily, the service cannot be faulted. However, on this occasion, we had our son and his wife who live outside the area staying with us for the weekend, so we booked a meal for 6.30pm on Sunday evening, 26th August. Big mistake! Though there were only 12 diners in the restaurant, it took 35 minutes to ask what we'd like to order, and over an hour and a quarter for the food to arrive. Other diners suffered the same fate.

We enjoyed a fabulous meal at Le Raj. Our first visit. As we were on our way home after a long drive, we just had two mains with rice and garlic naan bread. We had the Chef's Signature dishes - one a superb chicken dish in a very tasty, spicy sauce, the other a similar dish with lamb. Both the lamb and chicken were served as slices, rather than chopped up as you find in many similar dishes. They were both superb. We also had a pretty good Californian Merlot to wash it down! Will definately visit again!

We've been to the raj many times and every visit it's always 100 per cent on service and the food is amazing. The staff are brilliant, last night I was given a choice of a different dish to my usual and loved it. The choice of rose wine is great and the price also. The liqueur coffees are the best I've had, always consistent. The staff just make it !

This Indian restaurant serves really authentic food from the subcontinent. The level of spiciness goes from innocuous to insane, but in my opinion stick to the mid-range of fieriness and you'll enjoy it more.

What can I say, amazing food, very attentive staff, fantastic menu. Can't praise them enough. We will return.

We have been eating here for years. Had a nice meal here with family. The popadoms and pickle tray were delicious along with the starters. However my Daughter and partner both had Lamb dishes for their main courses. They both commented on the fact that the Lamb was very chewy and inedible. We told the waiter this when he came to ask if everything was ok. His response was that he would tell the Chef. Then when we came to pay the bill he knocked us the total of 25p off our Bill. Don’t bother. Just start using better Lamb. Everything else was very tasty. Just beware of the Lamb!

The food, beer and service all deserved top marks when we visited the Raj last week.

I’ve been to far too many Indian restaurants. But I love it. So. The raj is definitely the best in the area and they are all good but the food is amazing. Service is great and the beer is cold.

Hubby and I went for midweek tea. This was our first visit here. We started with the pickle tray, there was an additional tray of homemade pickles, including diced beetroot, all very tasty. Starters of mixed kebab and king prawn puri also spot on, full of flavour and most enjoyable. When it came to the main, we both ordered a Lamb dishes, Baltic and Garlic n chilli. Both dishes were bursting with flavour, but the Lamb itself very tough, so much so we couldn’t eat it. When the waiter asked if everything was okay, we advised him on how tough the meat was. He made comment he would inform the chef. We felt disappointed by his superficial response, as he could see the meat was mainly untouched. Such a shame about the Lamb as everything else was pucker.

We have many a fantastic meal here but was very let down by being shouted at by one of the waiters. We were driving down the road when the waiter who I think is from London decided to stop his car on a roundabout, wind down his window and shout and curse abuse due to us not indicating. I found this very uncalled for when we are very good customers and don’t feel like going back.

Been to the Raj before with a large group and their was 10 of us again this time ranging in age, taste and a mix of singles and couples. This didn't hinder the service even slightly and there was something for everyone! Everyone got drinks and food in a timely fashion and everything was to die for. Nothing was too much for and of the staff all very attentive and organised, will definitely be visiting again!

Fab meal, everything was really gorgeous. The bhajis were fried in seperate oil so i could have them. As I'm coeliac, I have to watch out for cross contamination so it was a real treat to be able to have a bhaji in an Indian. Our new favourite Barton Indian. We will be back :)

5 of us called in straight after work on a Wednesday evening, only us in there so the service was fantastic, lovely food that was well presented. Nice clean restaurant, will call again

We visited here again on 26/11/16 and once again had a lovely meal. We have eaten here a number of times now and have always had great food. The service is also friendly and efficient. We love the extra pickles which now come with the popadoms and I tried the naga balti which again was very tasty. We will definitely be back.

We take children in with us quite often and they are very accommodating with them. Always made to feel very welcome and the good is excellent

Fantstic food ....the pickles with the popadoms are all home made and taste divine ! You want to eat more and more as such great flavour ! Six of us were out for a meal and all of us were more than happy .The Waiter was very experienced giving us help in what food to choose ...he was spot on !Would visit again for sure.Lovely surroundings .....beautiful food .

Im not a curry conisour but i do eat out quite often and an "indian" is my favourite choice, the menu had quite a few dishes that were new to me, the waiters were so hopeful in explaining the differences to me.The food itself was great as was the service !

I visited with my daughter a few weeks ago, we shared a mix grill starter and a couple of popadoms, the pickles and extras were to die for. The curries were amazing, the service was great, we will be going again soon!

Not long lived in Barton so tried the Raj with no recommendation. A pleasant surprise and a great little place with good food and attentive, friendly staff. Little touches like a different relish dish from the normal to a seed dish with after eight mints and most importantly hot food and plates. We'll tread a path here again and again, build a rapport with the staff and recommend to all.

We always use this place if we go out for a Indian, food is great, staff are very helpful and friendly, and very good value for money, as someone else has already posted on a previous review, this place should be a lot busier. Well worth a visit.

We made an impromptu Monday evening visit without pre booking and received a lovely, warm welcome. Our host, Jewel, was absolutely fantastic and nothing was too much trouble. He advised on our choices and made certain everything was as we expected. We have visited the Taj a couple of times with friends over the last few years but this was certainly the very best visit in terms of the quality of food. Well presented, plentiful and fantastic favours to boot! The very best Indian meal we have experienced in a long time. We will certainly be back. Thank you to Jewel and his team for making our visit a pleasant one.

Great little restaurant which served excellent Indian food, we both went for something completely different on the menu and chose from the the chef specials. The taste and the flavours could not be faulted and the presentation with service was provided with attention to the details. Will be back soon

The staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. One of us was an Indian food novice and the waiter helped him make a selection. The food was excellent as usual. We had 3 courses and at no point did we feel rushed. We were left to enjoy our meal considering it was Friday night and busy the staff didn't hover around waiting to deliver the next course but they were on hand if we needed anything. I have been to many Indian restaurants and this is the best food I have had. The bill was reasonable for four of us coming to £103. We all had three courses and 10 drinks between us. No doubt we will be returning very soon.

Literally is the worst meal I have ever tasted in my life! I wouldn't let my dog eat this food. It was so bland and stodgy, avoid this Indian at all costs! Save your money and go to cleethopes to The Agrah that is a proper Indian cuisine, maybe the people from this restaurant should visit there to see what Standard indian food should actually be.

On advice from locals we decided to try raj. Both myself and my colleague are Indian food enthusiasts. This was the worst we have ever endured. Both food and service. Twice the naan breads we're burnt. The curries were below standard and left me with a bad stomach all through the night and following morning. And to add to the horror, the price was too steep for the terrible experience.

I enjoy the wide variety of food on the menu, I can always try something new when I go in. There is always a warm welcome and excellent waiting service. The bar offers a fine range of drinks including soft drinks, teas, coffees and speciality drinks such as liqueur coffees. The food is reasonably priced and is also extremely tasty, providing an authentic Indian dining experience with curries cooked to your heat level and also with any extras you might ask for! Genuinely brilliant restaurant!

The food here ie excellent, great value for money. There is always a great choice in all sections of the menu, something for everyone. The staff are very pleasent & friendly. If your not sure what to have they always advise, recommend, or even leave it to them

A group of approx 11 visited, the meals were amazing, the staff could not have been more friendly and accommodating, I can't wait to go back even though it's not so local for us. Great night, made more so by the hosting! Brilliant!

Went in with friends for a night out.Everything was what you would expect from an Indian curry house. Just one very slight negative was the overall cost which seemed just a tad high.Will probably return.

Usually go to the one across the road but as it was fully Booked I tried here, Pleasantly surprised food is excellent and not expensive we shared a starter had 2 mains with sides and a coupe of pints for around £30. definitely go again

This was my first visit to The Raj and its fair to say my last, The Raj was empty apart from a party of four and just us two, first up usual starters which were ok when they finally turned up, then came main course, i had ordered Keema Bhuna and my partner ordered Prawn Bhuna, for some reason they had put peas in my Keema, unfortunately they were still frozen and resembled bullets, where as my partners prawn bhuna had bouncing prawns, well they were that over cooked they were like rubber and could of bounced off the floor they were that bad.having been in the restaurant for over 90 minutes and had left pretty much most of our main courses we were asked if there was something wrong, we described the problems and the owner proceeded to pick one of the peas out of my meal and tried to squash it in his fingers, he then admitted they were not cooked, offered us both another meal, but by this time we were past it and chose the bill instead. £50.75 was the demand, we paid it and left needless to say not happy, but staff need to earn a living, just a shame the owner was more interested in my money than in me returning ever again.Having saved up for a night out, we were both left very disappointed. Just a shame the taxi driver who took us there waited until he picked us up to take us home, to tell us the Indian restaurant opposite the Raj is far better. At least we know for next time

We went to the Raj for valentines nigh this year. The food was great and the service was also great. As a nice touch, the ladies got chocolate and flowers at the end of the meal.We have eaten takeaway from there several times since and would recommend it.

Good food and extensive menu. Service was great. Meal portions good. Best curry in Barton. Had the murgh masala curry with chicken in lamb gravy. Will be back for more.
