As we are in beautiful Cornwall it would be rude not to partake in the traditional "Cream Tea " " Jam First !" But however you like your Jam on your scones, you will not be disappointed. In my opinion, these were the best scones I have tasted. Freshly baked, warm and smelling delicious. The staff are very welcoming, attentive and helpful. The bar is dog friendly too The view of the sea, from our table, was uninterrupted and perfect to have a relaxing afternoon with a friend or friends enjoying some self indulgence. The View Bar Bistro( or Raffles Bar as previously known) is a beautiful spot to while away a few hours Two delicious scones, Jam and cornish clotted cream a couple of fresh strawberries. A freshly brewed pot of Cornish tea or coffee if preferred. £8.50 per person. I consider that very reasonable. What's not to like ! Booking might be advisable.

Went in here to get out of the rain. Two sandwiches, a baguette and a bowl of chips took an embarrassing length of time to come. The sandwich bread was dry cheap supermarket bread and the chips came in a tiny bowl. Nearly £40 for this and three cokes. I wish we’d walked into looe in the rain instead. The ladies toilet was dirty and dated. Sadly not impressed

We booked for an evening meal at Raffles restaurant. We had tried to book other restaurants in Looe Cornwall but nothing else was available. Maybe this should of struck a cord of hesitation but thought perhaps it’s because hotel is off the beaten track! Anyway we should have gone with our instincts! The restaurant area was very sterile and We actually thought it was the waiting area expecting to be shown to the restaurant... but no it was restaurant. I had fish & chips and my husband had bbq chicken melt & chips. To be fair the fish was fine but the chips we’re frozen with frozen garden peas costing a staggering £13.25. My husbands chicken was tough served with the same frozen chips & peas costing £12.25! In all honesty you would have compared the meal to a Wetherspoons £7.95 special! We complained to manager and after some debate he said the best he could do was deduct two drinks from the bill! Very disappointing experience!

Lovely terrace to sit outside. We went for intention of afternoon tea bank Holiday Monday as part of the eat scheme. Only after we ordered we were told they weren’t doing it that day as busy enough with it being bank holiday which I couldn’t see or understand as it was advertised. Cream tea was ok though coffee not warm, a cheese sandwich was also ordered absolute rip off for £8.50, food completely overpriced for the quality received.

I was disappointed, having expected something rather special regarding shellfish in this location. £8.95 for a mussel starter, not many and also quite a few of the shells were empty. Not only that, as every good chef should know white worm growth on the shells should be removed prior to cooking....it was not. Next I had crab salad. This was £16.95 and quite honestly, I could have bought a bag of salad from the Co-op (and half a tiny tomato) and a bit of white crab meat plonked on top. Personally I enjoy the brown meat, there wasn't any. This was accompanied by a roll which I can honestly say was rock hard, I proved this by knocking it on the table. Why am I giving it 2? Because the waitress was very pleasant. BUT on paying the bill , I brought these comments to her notice but her response was " sorry" and then she just walked off.

We really enjoyed our visit, they could do with extra staff but the staff working were brill. We sadly had the displeasure of sitting by a family who moaned from start to finish between themselves but not to the staff once and I actually don’t think anything that was given to them would have shut them up! They spoke a lot about how they always leave bad reviews after, so maybe discount one of the 1 star review in August.

As a local to this hotel I have visited 3 times over past few months:Visit 1 (March 2019). Had a spa day which included a massage - unfortunately the masseur spoke the WHOLE way through and never ensuured the hot stones were kept hot throughout the massage. Her talking not only ensured I'll never be back for a massage here but also that my pal won't (who was in the room next door and who could also hear her!)Visit 2. (March 2019) Called in for coffee - no sign of any service at the bar so walked out after 15 minute wait.Visit 3. (June 2019) Went to Hannafore for lunch - never again. True to form the service in the bar was terrible - insufficient staff meant bar was left unstaffed and customers stood around looking at each other and discussing poor service. We ordered fish and chips and crab salad at a cost of approx £32, which isn't a cheap lunch. The fish and chips came out with a crab sandwich. The waitress took back the sandwich to correct for a salad, leaving my partner with his hot meal to eat on his own and with no offer of sauces (which he wanted). I went to bar to ask for sauce for him - stood there for 10 minutes with others, looking at an empty bar. I went back to keep my other half company. after a further wait and was still no sign of any staff I went to reception to ask for a refund - at the prices paid you'd expect to be able to eat together! The manager was great and gave a refund without quibble which was appreciated. I was surprised to see the waitress who'd delivered the incorrect order sat in reception eating crisps though - particularly when no one could get service in the bar! It's a shame as this local venue has so much to offer, if only the service was up to it. We'd given it a third chance bit this will be the final. We wont be back and certainly won't recommend. Far better to take a stroll and get served elsewhere where staffing levels and staff training are better. Please note - these comments refer to restaurant only - not the quality of the rooms.

This place has the potential to be great but sadly it isn’t. The views are great but most of the furnishings and environment are outdated and look very tired. We had our evening meal here on the first night of our stay. Starters were Ok but uninspired and not i think home made. The mains though were a disappointment both of the fish dishes looking like they had been deep fried and were definitely overcooked, the risotto was served in a dish so hot that it had shrunk back from the side!. I felt we were playing second fiddle to the restaurant. having said that the staff did their best and the views are amazing, so if location is key then this is a good choice, but be careful in your selection from the menu.

It was definitely worth the walk up the hill in West Looe (follow the water as far as you can then there's a few steps before you come to a green path marked on the road - obviously you could follow the road all the way if you wanted to avoid the steps - but it is quite a busy road so it might not be for everyone. The meal was supposed to be a treat for the in laws. My dish, from the menu, was unavailable so I had a substitute fish dish that came with salad. Having started to eat I saw a slug meandering around the plate and complained that my salad was alive. The plate was taken away but then the "manager" came over and said it was the fault of the supplier. Who plated it then!? This was their apology together with the offer of another dish. I chose the cheese and pickle baguette. It was grated cheese mixed with pickle. Very sickly and unappetising. The other members of the family had dishes that were less than perfect. The crab salad was swimming in sauce and the fried fish was not that appealing. For a venue with a famous name the food was infamous. Never again..

My wife and I celebrated our wedding anniversary with a lovely meal at this fine hotel with friends. We reserved a table with wonderful views out to sea and as the sun was shining, it was a scene that would be hard to beat. Our bar man/waiter, Ryan, although new to the job, was friendly and efficient and, surprisingly, the restaurant was not too busy. Service was certainly not fast but this just give us extra to time to spend in a lovely environment with good friends and a glorious view. All four of us were very pleased with our meals which included salmon steak, boiled potatoes and salad; beer battered haddock and chips; and chicken melt (chicken breast with bacon and cheese) and chips. For such good quality and a lovely setting, I considered the price to be not bad at all. It is great for a special occasion or a slightly indulgent treat!

Dined here in early October, group of 5 of us. No music playing in the lounge so no atmosphere. Very young busy male staff. Ordered our drinks and then sat down and waited, and waited, and waited. On going up to the bar the young man said we had to order our food at the bar. Why he didn't tell us this to start with I don't know! We had to scrabble a bit of paper to write our order down. The food came, we had 4 steaks, not one steak knife presented. The young guy also put the gravy boat containing sauce down with his thumb in the spout - not very hygienic. No check back was received during our meal so we had to make do with normal knives to eat steak. Steak was quite fatty so quite a lot left. Lots of bones in the salmon dish. What we did eat was yummy. Had to keep going up to the bar for more drinks even though the restaurant was not busy. Lots of staff walking around. We had a friend visiting from Hampshire and were quite embarrassed at the bad experience. Not great, given the choice again, I would go elsewhere, the Portbyhan Hotel about 10 minutes walk away does just as nice food for a similar price and the service is 10 times better.

This review is not about the hotel, but for its restaurant - Raffles. You can dine inside, with floor to ceiling glazed views, or outside (in fine weather) on the terrace, with the best location for looking out to sea covering the area of Looe Bay with Looe Island just a mile across the water. On days with clear skies you can see as far as Rame Head in the south east and Eddystone Lighthouse 14 miles due south on the horizon. The menu is not extensive but reasonably priced - but watch out for pricey drinks - and something that may surprise you: the Food Hygiene Rating, which you would expect to be 5 out of 5 for a prestigious hotel of this kind, is only 4 out of 5. There are simple B&Bs with a better rating in this lovely old Cornish Town.
