Quod Restaurant & Bar in Oxford

I really really like Quod, everything was top drawer, first of all our waitress was personable and made us feel extremely welcome. The food was absolutely amazing, I had a rump steak, with fries, my girlfriend had a rabbit and bacon roulade, we were both extremely happy, portion size was good. For dessert, I had the cheesecake and let me tell you, I am a cheesecake enthusiast, I am not overselling saying that it's the best I have ever had. It was luxurious, without being too sweet, the top of the cheesecake was a bit like a Crème Brûlée, my compliments to whomever made that. We had a window table, with a beautiful view of a church. I like Oxford a lot, I would like to visit Quod again, recommended.

Great venue for business meeting or dinner

We ordered cream teas, but unfortunately the scones were very underbaked.

Everything was good until I saw the mice …. Pretty bad experience.

Walked in on a rare warm day in March. Not booked. We sat on the terrace and although not directly in the sun was very pleasant. Good choice of food and drinks on the menu. Our food was excellent although the veg which came separate became cold quickly. A hot plate may have helped. Service was very good. We don’t mind paying a bit extra for good quality food and service. Thoroughly recommend.

One of our go-to places for special occasions. This time a birthday celebration. It is not cheap...you easily end up spending £100 per person. Normally they would bring a small cake with a candle or something nice to acknowledge a special occasion, but this time they forgot even though I'd mentioned it when I made the reservation. The oysters were really nice and so was the fillet of beef. Never disappointed with the food here. For a wednesday evening it was really noisy this time around and it was difficult to hear eachother. The waitress seemed a bit eager and it felt a little bit rushed this time around. We will still be back though.

We had such an incredible dinner here for my birthday. Everything we ate was delicious - especially the duck and the sea bass. Our waitress Maisie was a dream and so helpful. Would 100% recommend and can’t wait to come back!

Perfect in every way. The staff were amazing, they made my birthday night out very special.

A nice atmosphere and very average service, but I expected a little more. £30 for lamb cutlets is what you pay for a decent meal these days but for it to be unseasoned, hardly cooked and soft chips I felt a bit outdone by. Anyway don’t bother. Go to Bodrum (a small nothing special take away place on the Cowley road) where they will cook your £14 chops properly! Cocktail also average.

Once again a very nice meal but can you please get at least one other choice of non alcoholic beer please. Free Damm is not everyone’s choice and a chance of a Peroni 0% or Heineken 0% would be very welcome. Drivers and non drinkers are feeling hard done by !

Love this place, never had a bad meal here. Fresh oysters yum, the celeriac soup is my favourite, red mullet was lovely too. No room for dessert. Piano music on a Sunday evening enhances the lovely atmosphere. Staff always go the extra mile too. Definitely recommend.

Reasonable food but we had to wait quite a long time. It was overpriced including a sneaky 13.5% service charge!

This place has been wonderful. The girl who assisted us has been super attentive and has helped us with all the questions we had about intolerances. The food has also been ten. I ordered duck and it was delicious. We shared a cheesecake and a sticky toffee pudding and I couldn't enjoy it more. Especially the second one who had never tried it.

Celebrated my birthday here and they brought me a little surprise at the end. Love the atmosphere, so beautiful, staff was very friendly and food was very nice… maybe the pasta and risotto were the weakest dishes but the duck, fish and steak were very nice. Will come back and I would recommend

The unlimited tea arrived - cups, saucers, teapots etc which looked nice but when we poured the milk - the milk had gone off! It was rancid. So the waiter had to take it all back and start again. We had a jug of water at the table but it was warm! No ice or lemon! Not even cold! My food stand came but my scones were missing! So again, the waiter had to go and find them! Then when we paid the bill they’d added 12.5% service charge on top! The food was delicious but although all the problems were rectified it was disappointing for a birthday tea!

The food and atmosphere are excellent, and overall, Quod is a great experience. The staff are very professional. However, you should be aware that they are adept sales people. While you are taking your seats, you are asked if you want sparkling or still water. Then, when you reply "Still water, please", you get the confirmation "Still mineral water". Of course, tap water is an option, but you are 'guided' toward paying for mineral water. If you order a pint of beer, you will be told that it is served by the half-pint, but you can have two halves. So, you order one half, and as soon as you finish it, your efficient, smiling server anticipates your need and brings over a second one (which you did not order). When you order your food, you will notice that there are optional veggie and potato sides on the menu, and may therefore ask if your main dish comes with veg and potatoes. The server avoids the question, and says that a portion of chips between you is a good idea because it will "ensure the gap is filled". As a result you get your main dishes with veg and potatoes plus a side serving of chips. When you ask for the bill, your server will select the service charge before giving you the card reader. The charge is not visible on the screen when you insert your card. Instead, you find out when you check the receipt that you have paid a 12.5% 'discretionary' service charge. You may leave without noticing that you were manipulated. If you do notice, you may resent it, but say nothing because you don't want to look mean, especially in front of company. Or, you may accept it as part of the package. I'm told that these sharp tactics are the norm in London. Well, now we have them in Oxford too.

Nice late Sunday lunch, sadly had run out of roasts but we were a little late in the day (2:45pm). Had steaks instead, which were cooked perfectly. Great atmosphere as usual and friendly, attentive staff.

On a busy summers day we were struggling to find a restaurant that had a free table until we stumble across Quod. They managed to seat us in their beautiful garden straight away. We ordered a bread basket and a prawn salad to start, followed by fillet steak, which came with mash and bone marrow, as well as a lovely sauce. The food was all lovely, and the steak was incredible. Succulent and juicy and perfectly cooked. The restaurant was very busy which meant that service was a bit slow and I had to ask for things a few times, however we weren’t in a rush and this didn’t bother me much on this particular day. I usually do a good amount of research before deciding on a restaurant, but this just goes to show that sometimes just wandering around is the best way forward.

Pre-Theatre dinner. The place was buzzing - really full at 530pm on a Friday - thank goodness we had booked. We were quickly seated and the service was quick but not rushed. Had some delicious mocktails and a pizza with salad all freshly cooked and tasty. Definitely return.

Went with a friend for lunch. Terrible service. Asked the server if there was vegetarian menu - she shook her head instead of replying, without making any eye contact. Waited 15 minutes for someone to take our order or bring water. The place only had about 20 customers in at the time. They weren’t rushed. Staff completely ignored us the whole time we were there. Food was ok Would never go again.

They have a wonderful service, so thorough on person that they will give you extra rice in case you are hungry, it makes me feel as warm as at home. The waitress ‘Vanessa’ is the person served us, she is very friendly and closed to people! Great experience!

We are here for the first time and we ate like God. The duck breast, lamb and chicken a carry were amazing. A nice wine list with honest prices. There is the possibility of taking the glass / 1/2 liter, the bottle. The only thing is coffee that in my opinion is a little acidic...

Great food. Loved it. Met up in Oxford from Cheshire, Australia, and Kent. Pre booked and had a lovely, relaxed few hours here. The food was lovely, although a couple of plates were sent back for being less than hot, and I think one coffee. My coffee was slightly bitter, but on the whole, with a party of nine, it was great.

Recommended if you really want to eat in the tourist center of Oxford We can highly recommend the restaurant. Although the restaurant is in the tourist center of Oxford, it delivers good quality. The food is good, the service is quick and friendly, and the price-performance ratio is at a good level.

Had a great dinner with amazingly delicious food and good wine list. The pinnacle of the dinner of course was the service, lovely Vanessa was very thoughtful and gave just enough of attention to make us feel comfortable and taken care of.

Visited Quod on a damp Saturday afternoon. It was wet and cold outside so tumbled into Quod of the off chance they had a table. When we went in there were spaces in the restaurant, but it took 10-15 minutes of so to get us to a table. If there hadn't been spaces I wouldn't have mentioned this. When we did get a seat the service was polite and attentive and reasonably quick. Again there was a bit of a wait for the food but the wait was worth it as the food was very nice. The atmosphere was good with a lively but not too nopisy hubub. Would definetly visit again. Pricing wasnt bad for somewhere like Oxford which is going to be pricey anyway. Presentation and quality was excellent

I feel like I’ve been to this place so many times before. You walk in to a beautiful restaurant, with its nice setting that breadths class. But the further into the journey you go, you get the feeling it’s just a mirage. To start with, the service we had on the night was the very bare minimum. They felt a bit disengaged and weren’t very attentive. I would expect a little bit more from a place like this. As for the food, it’s ok. It doesn’t taste bad in anyway but I would expect a bit more at this price point. Most disappointing was the steak. I was there with a group of friends, where several of us had steaks for mains. We all ordered different preparations for it (from medium to rare). Cutting them up at the same time, it was impossible to tell which one was suppose to be which. Perhaps a minor details for some, but if you’re at a place where they ask you how you want it: I also hope to get it. All in all, it’s not a terrible experience. But I have to say, leaving the restaurant after 2.5h, I walked out with a lighter wallet and with a slight feeling of disappointment. - Value for money? No - Worth a detour? No - Best for (occasion)? Corporate dinner - Would I go back? Unlikely

I absolutely love this place. My wife and I plan on coming back here the next time we come to visit from the US. The staff here is accommodating and friendly. We visited the restaurant for the first time with our 5 month old child. The host didn’t have a problem finding us a spot to sit toward the back of the dining area even though the restaurant was mostly full. The food was fantastic. Overall a very pleasant experience.

I chose a restaurant blindly on the walk and walked in after seeing a lot of locals (I speak from experience). I have been in the UK for half a month and it was one of the best lunches I had. The cappuccino was full of milk and the risotto was delicious. Light and delicious, every ingredient of cod, red pepper and broccoli is delicious, highly recommended!

I took two friends for a meal to celebrate their birthdays and they both said it was the best meal they had had in a long while. The food was delicious, well cooked and presented. The service was friendly and very efficient. Finally the atmosphere was very pleasant and allowed for a convivial evening to be had. Housed in a historic building it was nice to see some original features included in the decor. We will certainly be back and would definitely like to try the terrace next time. Well done to all and many thanks for making the evening so memorable

I have not eaten dinner here, but have had breakfast on two occasions and thoroughly enjoyed the food. The Poached Eggs, Cornish Crab and Avocado is exceptional. Highly recommend this place for a great breakfast

Had a pizza... OK but expensive, but £5 for half a pint of lager was even worse. The website states that Sunday lunch is a choice between beef, lamb and pork. Lamb was not on the menu. Upped sticks and went too The Ivy a few doors away - much more welcoming with a great vibe.

Very stylish restaurant with a lively, upmarket vibe. Everywhere in the restaurant, including loos, was immaculate. I was made very welcome, arriving before my husband. Our waiter was very sweet and service was quick and efficient despite the restaurant being full. Food was delicious in generous portions. My husband required vegan food and opted for a very colourful and imaginative dish full of flavour and nutrients. I had probably the most delicious pizza I have ever eaten. Beautiful, flavoursome crispy crust with Margherita topping and optional extras. Would highly recommend.

This was a five star review but recent experiences have been sub par. Wrote directly to give them the opportunity to respond but didn’t even have the courtesy to respond. New host is not friendly - they are in the wrong line of work. Found someone’s hair clippings on the bar. Rude staff. Average cocktails. Used to visit weekly but now skip. Hope they get back to how it used to be. On recent trips it warrants a one. So this 2 is in light of past experiences.

Delicious food! Went here in 2024, after 5 years. Surprisingly, I liked the ricotta pizza the most, even though it wasn't neapolitan dough pizza. As for the meats, I preferred pork, duck was good, but rather chewy. I was in Oxford 5 years ago, 2019, and I remember visiting Quad, and I loved the panna cotta here 😍

I’ve come to Quod several times over the years and it is consistently amazing! The breakfast never disappoints and they serve the best Bloody Mary in Oxford - Just perfect!

Nice place, good atmosphere and service was okay however, I ordered the duck for main and it was incredibly salty- the kale, potatoes and the sauce had way too much salt in which overpowered everything. The duck looked lovely but it could be improved for £26.95.

We waited 80 minutes for our main course so they comped the appetizers. Food was very good. Wait staff also good.

We had breakfast here and the food was good and the smoothies are ready made so they arrive very fast. The green smoothie was delicious but very small however and not good value for the £8 cost. Service staff not very friendly or attentive. Overall the cost is very high for the standard of service and quality.

Nice restaurant that we visited for my sister in laws 30th party. The prices were similar to London, not sure the pizza was worth £16 but we got that and the rabbit tagialltelli to share which were okay. Not sure I would return but we had a nice table and staff were friendly enough.

Quod is a lovely oasis in Oxford. We had dinner on the terrace--the tables weren't crowded together, the ambient noise was a reasonable level (water features provided great white noise), and the whole area is nonsmoking. A great setting for what was a very fine meal. The food was fresh and well prepared, with a medley of ingredients that complemented each other well. The whole feel was upscale yet relaxed, tasteful but not pretentious.

We were absolutely delighted to spend our wedding day at Quod. Everything exceeded our expectations - we would like to specially Thank Lianna and Virgilio for making our day so special and stress free.

This evening I had dinner with a friend, and everything was perfect. The food was impeccable, and the peppercorn sauce was really interesting. I'll be asking my chef in Winter Park (FL) to make something similar for my filet. I also want to compliment the customer care, which was truly perfect. Ivaninska (I hope I spelled that right) was especially friendly and helpful. Thanks to all of you!

Same thing happened to me just two weeks ago. Absolute trash service - waited almost 30 minutes for a table when I was early for my reservation. Thought the service would improve from there but it all went downhill instead! Their service and food are a reflection of each other: COLD. But yes, couldn’t help but notice that my group and I were the only POCs there - seems like a pattern of behaviour? Do better, Quod! It’s 2024!

Cold food. Selective service. Terrible atmosphere. We arrived there 5 minutes before our reservation. We asked to sit in the terrace. There was 7 empty tables in the terrace but the maître de made us wait 25 minutes (I counted) before giving us a table. Point to note. We were the only people of colour there. Our drinks came late. We had to ask for water THREE separate times. And didn’t get it until we walked up to the bar and asked for it for the fourth time. The table that was seated beside us got their drinks and waters before we did. The food was late but we expected them to be fresh. The pizza was cold. The lamb was too tough. The Ravioli felt dry. THE AUDACITY TO ADD A 12.5% TIP TO THE BILL AFTER DELIVERING QUITE POSSIBLY THE WORST DINING EXPERIENCE IS WILD!!!! Going here was one of my biggest regrets in Oxford. The menu has great options with delicious food and exceptional service. Quod is a beautiful restaurant to dine in.

The service was very poor, even though the restaurant was not busy at that time (3.30 pm). We were on the terrace outside. And had to wait a long time to have our order taken after we were seated. Two of our party of 3 ordered the afternoon tea, which turned out to be one of the most disappointing afternoon tea we've had. The sandwiches were alright, the scones were excellent, however the cakes were very poor. The chocolate Battenburg was dry and not very tasty. The cupcake was tasteless and indistinguishable as to what flavour it was supposed to be, and the other chocolate cake was also dry. We had to ask for milk & sugar for the coffee, and as the server did not return, we had to ask another server. Tables that had been vacated before we arrived were left and not cleared by the time we left. So disappointed

We attended for a lunch to celebrate my son finishing his degree. The food was top quality, produced and presented well. The service was fine - professional but not welcoming or particularly timely. The layout / decor is fine, but it didn't add up to the highest level of experience for me - as a lunch venue at least.

This is the third time I've been to this restaurant, the Kiev-style cutlets are really something you should try here: delicious chicken, tender mashed potatoes with a green sauce that goes well with this dish. I do not recommend taking a duck here; desserts and coffee are also not the most delicious.

The service left much to be desired. Despite the delicious food, the slow service marred our overall experience. It took an unusually long time for our orders to be taken and for the food to arrive. Furthermore, when my friend politely requested the service charge to be removed from the bill, the server responded with noticeable passive aggression, which was disappointing and unprofessional. While Quod excels in food and atmosphere, significant improvements are needed in service efficiency and staff attitude to make it a top dining destination.

The food was really excellent. I had wonderful Lemon Sole and the rest of the table had great dishes too including ‘the best burger I’ve had in ages’ coming from someone who eats a lot of burgers. The service was a fraction slower and less attentive than perfection although very friendly. The surroundings are very classy and have a luxurious feel.

Sadly I think we just caught this place on a bad night. The reviews are generally good and our friend is staying at the hotel and says the breakfasts are great and the service impeccable. The ambience in the restaurant was lovely and the place is immaculately appointed, but unfortunately we had a waitress who seemed brisk and brusque, plus the food just wasn’t good! It started well with the lovely manager taking time to accommodate our gluten free dietary requirements, but the food was really below par, especially considering it’s not inexpensive. The crab starter was saturated with mayonnaise and had an extra dollop of mayonnaise for added measure but with no bread to go with it. My main course of duck was overdone and the rainbow chard tasted like it hadn’t been washed it was so earthy, plus the sauce was flavourless. The turnips were replaced with roast new potatoes, without consideration that a portion of potatoes had been ordered as a side. For the others in our party of three, the fish was slightly overcooked (but still tasty apparently) and the aubergine dish still had the tops of the aubergines attached. It really just felt that perhaps the kitchen was short-staffed and inexperienced and the waitress was overwhelmed and also lacked the customer service skills needed. The restaurant was busy so one imagines it normally has a good reputation, hence us thinking that we just caught it on a bad night. We didn’t complain at the time, because sometimes it’s obvious in a restaurant when they’re not coping well and it really felt that we’d end up having to wait for food to be cooked again with little chance of it being any better.

Lovely building and initial entrance. Food dull and small portions. No imagination and dreary tastes. Server gave impression he was working at a supermarket with no real interest. Lots of tourists. Expensive for quality of foods. Cocktails looked nice
