We visited the Queens Arms for lunch, with good friends, for the second time on Thursday 22nd August. It was very good when we visited last year. On this occasion we were asked whether everything was OK and I had to say that it wasn't and to explain that OK simply wasn't an accurate description. It was hugely better than OK. The food was really good. A shortish but really interesting Menu. Clearly quality ingredients really well put together on the plate. Indeed impeccably presented. And we were looked after by enthusiastic and seriously friendly staff. We arrived for lunch shortly before our 12h30 booking. We left at about 15h45!! It felt like we were eating in a quality restaurant in France, Italy or Spain. And whilst the Desserts didn't arrive quickly that was a bonus. It allowed us to continue talking and to continue enjoying sitting in the lovely ambience of this cracking establishment. We very much hope to return and unreservedly woukd recommend the Queens Arms. It wasn't cheap but it was definitely value for the money that we spent. And the Pistachio and Olive Oil Cake with fresh raspberries accompanied by a lovely tart raspberry sorbet and delightful white chocolate nibbles (they were called something else on the menu) was the best Dessert I have had in quite some time.

We stayed three nights at the Queens Arms and booked dinner for two evenings. The food was sublime - I have replicated the chilled betroot soup with feta, roasted hazelnuts and dill, absolutely wonderful. Never mind the rest of the menus, the food was excellent. Our bedroom was very clean and nicely decorated. It had only two hooks for hanging clothes which was a bit difficult with out clothes for three days but other than that, a very comfortable bed indeed and all facilities included in the price. We hope to go back and have recommended to our friends. Just lovely, and so countrified. A lovely pub, well done to the owners.

We have been diners here on several occasions and up to now have been impressed by the menu and the service. On this occasion the summer Sunday lunch menu was fine and the lamb was excellent but the service was not up to scratch. We were a family of five, the pub was nearly empty when we arrived, staff were around but inattentive. Each time we had to get up and ask for a menu (drinks, child’s and main), ask whether we could order a drink and ask if we could order our meal. Maybe it was one of those days, but we hope that next time we have a better experience.

Considering the money that’s been spent on the interior it’s a pity the service isn’t better. Or maybe staffing levels in the kitchen need to be increased . Why for example ( having booked well in advance ) are four people given a table right next to the door on a freezing cold day when just about every other table was -and remained-unoccupied. The food was good but the service was extremely slow which spoilt things. This place could be much improved.

Visited for dinner on fine summer evening Lovely old pub with great beer garden with friendly locals with lots of dogs! Beer was excellent -wibble ale was very good, and there is a fine selection of other ales, including some wild beer ale, which I would have tried had I not been driving! Food was very disappointing..; Ordered 4 starters to share - very poor quality-cheap supermarket salami “repackaged” as charcuterie. Oily and quite strange humous, cevettes (prawns) that were well past their sell by date. Acidic olives. Overall extremely poor. Mains were plaice (£20)-grilled in way too much butter, violet potatoes extra £3.50) that were mainly undercooked . My daughter had carbonara pasta which she enjoyed but did comment it was very creamy. Perhaps we ordered badly -thought there was a good selection of choices but our choices were badly executed In summary, good pub for a pint and packet of crisps, take care with the food.

I hope I am alone in saying that the once brilliant Queens Arms has fallen from grace. Although food is good the service and beer really not so great. After taking back a cloudy vinegary beer they offered me the last pint from another barrel which I refused due to its “soup” like properties - their staff do not know a poor pint from a great pint - after no money back or discount from the pint I had returned I accepted a flat but drinkable 3rd option which I duly paid for. A quick glance at the menu revealed the cheapest dish to be an £18 bowl of gnocchi pasta - would probably be worth it with top notch service which they clearly do not have - this is the second visit in as many months which again was exceptionally disappointing. Please train your staff to be more professional to produce an atmosphere more commensurate with the prices you charge. Will not be recommending to our friends or clients who come down from the city. Very disappointed considering what the place used to offer.

We stayed here whilst attending a wedding nearby. We were made to feel very welcome as soon as we arrived and cannot fault the service we received; the staff were all very friendly and helpful. The pub has a beautiful garden with views out over the countryside and the bar is cozy with comfortable armchairs. Our room was directly above the bar but I couldn't hear any noise from below and it was beautifully decorated with at good sized en-suite shower room. We ate in the dining room on our first night and were very impressed with both the service and the food; I'd highly recommend The Queens Arms.

Friendly, young bar staff. Good selection of English drinks: Pimms, Cider, Mulled Wine. Not too heavy on the typical pub smell, clean and tidy. Dog friendly. Walker friendly. Prices are somewhat high. Puddings are yummy. (Not sure why the pub is posted twice)

The hotel is in a lovely location and is a lovely building but the management need to learn about customer satisfaction and to not use pre rehearse excuses ! We arrived tired and needing a rest before getting ready for dinner. I lay down on the bed but could not rest as there was constant banging of doors below our room. We decided to get ready so started to shower but the shower kept going cold! When we got downstairs we were told that we should eat in the bar as the restaurant was empty which was a shame as it looked really nice. We sat at a table that had a wobbly top. There was no music just uncomfortable silence that was broken every two minutes by the loud banging of the doors in the kitchen. I asked if they could do something about it, they said they would try but nothing changed. I had to put up with the loud banging all through our meal. The meal was nice but nothing special. Once we got to bed the kitchen had closed so the banging had at last stopped. I woke in the night when a spring from the bed in our ‘luxury king room’ dug in my side.

It was busy! - walkers, resident guests, families, group gatherings - this was Boxing Day after all! We were a family of 8 seated with other large groups - and the food was wholly wonderful! We thoroughly enjoyed our food - and the wine too! We tried from across the range of the lunch menu - fish, venison, burgers and pub classics such as Ham, Egg and Chips. We also gave the desserts menu a good run for its money - and all superb! This is a real treat of a place - I'd love to come back to try afternoon tea or maybe even to stay overnight. You must go!

Visited here at random having stopped on a cycle ride in the area. Was pleased to discover an upmarket gastropub. Classic dishes like fish and chips, ploughman's, burger and chips etc were all present, as well as some more interesting options. Food was excellent in general, and the setting is certainly charming. The prices charged are on the high side however - £8-10 for a starter, £15-20 for a main and £7 for a dessert is certain not cheap for a weekday pub lunch. Judging from the plethora of proudly displayed awards the kitchen is aiming for greater things, and compared to other West Country restaurants in this price bracket it comes up somewhat short - ploughman's lunch was largely good but accompanied by an inexplicably large bowl of over salted supermarket quality olives in watery brine, and river trout, although perfectly cooked, was swimming in an ocean of cream sauce. This dish was presented without bread or any other carbohydrate, and with a knife and fork so without drinking from the bowl there was no obvious way to actually consume this. These are minor forgivable sins for a rural pub kitchen - however they are not forgivable for a serious restaurant with one eye on the Michelin guide. Overall well worth a visit however and I would happily return.

delightful restaurant, well patronised - which made parking on a Sunday lunchtime quite tight - and excellent food. Prices not budget - closer to a good smaller restaurant around London - but the dishes warranted it; my guests picked a range of dishes and were unanimous in their praise. Definitely on the list for a return visit.

We were staying in Sherborne for a romantic valentine’s getaway and our host recommended the Queens Arms restaurant and what a superb recommendation it was! Country pubs can always be daunting when you first enter as everyone can relate to the moment you walk into a “locals only “pub and every stops drinking and stares directly at you, this was certainly not the case at the Queens Arms.Staff were very warm, friendly and immediately made us feel at home. The Queens Arms also has lovely guest rooms so you have a real mix of people staying in the pub. Food was beautifully presented and was all sourced locally adding to the authentic experience. We were visiting in February so they had the lovely open fire on the go which was perfect to sit next to after out meal. All great pubs should have board games, cards etc. and we did have a cheeky game of scrabble while we waited for our taxi. Overall a very refreshing experience with super food and lovely wine.Defiantly worth a visit for a quick drink, lunch or a romantic meal.

We were there in a party of four. The service was attentive and we were offered the choice of three different rooms where we could eat dinner--from informal to modern to traditional. The menu was attractive and the descriptions of the food appealing if rather costly, however, the food disappointed. It wasn't bad , though portions were small, it was just average and at around £15.00 each main and £7.50 for starters it was not great value for money.Nevertheless we had a good time there and others ( judging by the noise levels ! ) did too.

I visited recntly with a friend for lunch. I thought £7.95 for a roast beef bagette was a bit steep but thought as the premises is promoted as a "gastro pub" I would get something special. The beef was rare and good quality but there was hardly any beef in the bagette a real poor portion not what I would have expected at that price.I don't mind paying £7.95 if I receive good value.
