The place maybe looked nice when it was first operned many years ago :(But it is really run down the dance floor up stairs is crazy, your feet stick to the layers of spilt drinks, food, sick and anything else that was put on the floors and never cleaned well in years...It could be nice and I can see what they are trying to do with the dump, but for the hight prices they should be putting some money back in to the place, No customer wants be in such a dirty place, I would never go back unless they give it a compleatly new refurbishment

Where do I even start...First the positives:The queue wasn't too bad and the bouncers are very friendly. 5 pound entry is an average price. Buzzing atmosphere when you arrive. Now for the load of negatives:The staff are too self obsessed and think that they're out on a night too. When in fact they're meant to be there to provide you with a good clubbing experience. Therefore if was no surprise when I had to queue up 20 minutes+ to get a couple of drinks! Not enough staff behind the bar. Then when you do get a couple of drinks it's an absolute fortune. Fair enough in London but a club down a side street in modest Colchester to be charging that much is ridiculous. Also if you're not a big fan of shuffling, this is definitely NOT the place to go.QUBE pretty much sums up colchester's nightlife... POOR!

Utterly terrible, bar staff are arrogant and too absorbed in themselves to serve people with any efficiency. Prices are extortionate for a poor venue. Bouncers are rude and unnecessarily coarse, they often make threatening gestures at innocent customers. Trust me, never go to this disgusting hole.

After visiting this place last night, I felt I had to put my opinions on here. Firstly, the bar staff are all arrogant, self-important and too busy dancing and attempting to look cool to actually serve any customers. Secondly, the bouncers are basically a load of thugs and unnecessarily heavy handed. Thirdly, the customers in there think they are out of Towie, but actually resemble something out of Geordie Shore. Overall Qube is a terrible bar and myself and my friends will not be visiting it again!!

The bar staff do not produce high quality cocktails and the bouncers are rude and inappropriate. The atmosphere was poor and it was trying to insulate a London bar but unfortunately it failed dramatically.

This place is pretty much the only place to go in colchester if you want to have quality drinks in a descent venue with descent music and service. The place is always buzzing and has a great atmosphere so expect to que both outside and sometimes at the bar if you get there late but if it was empty you wouldn't wanna be in there right? It has a "london" feel about it without the london prices.

Great decor but aggressive power trip security, moody incompetent bar staff constantly trying to up-sell double shorts. Hassled if you go to the toilet to pay £2.00 for cologne and the clientele is TOWIE wannabes and lease car heroes trying to impress each other whilst maxing out their overdrafts. Not for me.

Drank here with 3 friends on the evening 27th October having dined just down the road.Having tried Milsoms which is owned by the same man that owns Qube too, we were excited as Milsoms is very good. However, we were disappointed. The clientele seems to try too hard and you can get some rough characters in there! The drinks, are ok, however there is no continuity, we ordered the same drink on two separate occasions as they tasted different, and were served in different glass types. The staff is also sloooowww...plus there is no continuity in their dress code either. To smarten the place up, perhaps a branded code would be better? The bar is basically just that a bar downstairs with a HUGE bar and little seating. What seats there are appeared to be reserved and upstairs is well...a joke. From £225 of a table and some bad drinks, rising to £600. Perhaps a guest list too would be nice? Qube COULD be lovely a bring some exclusivity to Colchester however at the moment, riff raff seem to enter and brings the place down and also the drinks/staff continuity issues need to be addressed.PLEASE try and make it more exclusive OR open another type of bar/club like London has, charge a membership fee and make it exclusive/luxurious!

Summer 2012 the bar had a refit. Gone is the restaurant and eclectic seating. Now there is just a big lit up bar with some seats around it. Upstairs is now another bar with seating you have to pay to sit down on. Same music is played in each. The refit is just a way of packing more punters into the place and not designed for the comfort of the clientele . It's still the smartest bar in Colchester but not sure if charging £50 for booths is a great idea. Disappointed:(

Truly the one of the worst meals I've had. There may have been steak hidden amongst the fat. The still half frozen pudding had the plastic cellophane still attached so sent it back with no real apology. As in a large group for a Christmas outing I was very British and didn't complain, although I wish I had. The downstairs bar for drinks is good but never think of eating there.

I visited here with friends, having a few drinks.. Sat at a table, put my elbow down and felt a sharp pain through my elbow. To my shock I had glass sticking out of my elbow. When going to the bar to tell them all they gave me was a tissue and plaster. I asked about any wipes etc they said they do not have these. When I moved tables to get away from the glass they did not go over to the table once to clean it - after I had made them aware of the glass.I then emailed to complain regarding this. This was the relpy I received:"Dear NikkiI’m sorry to hear about your experience the night you visited Qube. We have first aid trained staff onsite and 3 First aid boxes located in the office, kitchen and bar. We do not offer antiseptic wipes as some people may have reactions to them and we can’t be held responsible. Our staff go around cleaning up empty glasses, broken glass and any rubbish as best they can, had it been pointed out to them, they would have come straight over and cleared the mess up. At Qube we try to achieve the highest standards possible and it our priority to look after our customers. Please don’t let the events of that evening put you off coming to our venue. We look forward to seeing you soon.Kind regardsNick Wildman"With my reply being:"Thats fair enough but the customer should have the choice whether they would want an antiseptic wipe or not, seeing as every one that enters your bar is 18+ Also I told them how I cut my elbow but I still did not see them clean the table I sat at previously. Thank you"With no further replies back from Mr Wildman.Definitely have not returned...

This bar used to be lovely and the food was always tasty and well presented. Not anymore. Our food came out cold and the staff were rude when we asked for more drinks. Not entirely sure who the manager is but he needs training and needs to crack a smile now and again. Could also do with a slight revamp and or a clean. Shame really.

There were around 25 of us that went here for an evening meal for a hen do. The starter was fine. I had a main course of steak which had a huge lump of fat in as did the girl's opposite me. The chef's also seem to overcompensate everything with oregano which I had to scrape off my mushroom and tomato. Another girl couldn't eat the sauce on her starter because of the same problem. Dessert was awful. We had ordered from a set menu and around 10 of us on 2 different tables had panna cotta. Everyone took one bite and stopped eating. It tasted of sour milk. When we complained to the waitress she said she would speak to the chef. She came back and said it was supposed to taste like that! Eventually they were all replaced with chocolate torte's, but unfortunately they failed to mention it was also made with coffee and so most people left this also. Its a shame because I have been here many times at a lunchtime where the prices are much more reasonable and the quality of food is much better. However the evening menu is bad quality and extremely over priced.

I am a regular diner at the Qube restaurant and there is a constant pattern of events each time I go there - it's always fantastic. The menu is versatile, although I always have the same things as the fillet steaks are unbelievable! I havve noticed a comment on here stating that the restaurant felt cramped, I would point out that due to incredibly popular demand the restaurant has now been extended and is now a very spacious (although still intimate) enviroment to eat, drink and socialise in. All of the staff are welcoming and knowledgable of the menu's - both food and drink. Which brings me to my last point - The drinks menu is also superb, with some really fine wines, off all descriptions, all of which are reasonably priced. All in all Qube is arguably the best restaurant in Colchester in my opinion - The reason I know this - Because everytime I introduce a new friend or colleague to it they always go back time after time.

Firstly let me start by thanking my manager for introducing me to the Qube restaurant - it is simply outstanding. Perfect portions, wonderful wines and superb service. It's a fantastic environment to dine in employed with smiling faces and an intimate yet spacious seating arrangement. The food is unrivaled and superb value for money: one of the best portions of braised beef I have ever tasted.All-in-all a darling experience and somewhere I'll be returning to in the forth-coming future.

Qube bar and grill is my favourite restaurant in Essex, the staff are very friendly and helpful, the menu is small but all the dishes are fresh and delicious. The fillet steaks are amazng a lovely place to go for a treat. The restaurant is upstairs with the bar area downstairs along with an outside terrace and the option of alfresco dinning in the Summer. The interior of the restaurant is trendy but comfortable. Definately one to go to with friends or older children. The food (especially the fillet steaks) are superb hope you all can try it!!

Spa day for Mothers' day. Lucky that the beauty therapists were so good because it saved the day. Pool area looked very good but the aromatherapy room had nothing of aromatherapy about it and the pool itself was icy. The relazing pool was also too cold to sit in but the jacuzzi was warm: unfortunately the bubbles were absolutely violent and because so much chlorine had been used in the water, it was spat in your eyes and we had to get out, eyes streaming. So we went to get our afternoon tea: what a disappointment! When we got to the café area we were left waiting for quite some time with no one to seat us. The room was in a mess: tables covered with detritus. They only managed to clear up by getting a beauty therapist to come and clear the tables! We settled in for tea.5 minutes later we had eaten it! We each had the equivalent of 2 slices of bread cut into 4 little sandwiches. Only 2 fillings: cheese and tomato and egg mayonnaise. Usually if you go out for afternoon tea you have double this amount and are then offered more. At Ballentynes you had a couple of mouthfuls and when we asked for more were told we would have to pay for them! The one scone each was actually very nice but the cake selection was dismal, with a small piece of chocolate cake that we had to cut to share ourselves and another that looked so amateurish that neither of us wished to sample it. Absolutely nothing special about this "special Mothers' Day" event. As is often the case in hospitality the management is trying to increase the profit margin by cutting back on the quality of the offer once payment has been taken and cutting back on staff so that staff, who were, I should add, all very pleasant, are rushing around and unable to provide the expected level of service. The place is definitely not meeting it's potential. We will not be visiting again.

Excellent pub with fine selection of real ale. We received a warm welcome and were served quickly and professionally with our drinks. On a whim we decided to have lunch which was superb: I enjoyed the home made mince and onion pie in suet pastry with beautifully cooked vegetables, and my husband enjoyed the Vegetable and Quorn curry. The pub had a good crowd of regulars which made for a happy and community atmosphere. The pub is old style- just as we like it; spotlessly clean and traditional in all regards. Highly recommend this pub and look forward to visiting again when next in Bures.

***** NO WONDER THIS PLACE IS CLOSING DOWN ***** Paid for a taxi to have breakfast only to find they have no chef and no staff and greeted by an unapologetic receptionist. Can’t find this anywhere on their website, met another gentleman standing in the Carpark after also booking a taxi for breakfast. DO NOT BOTHER WITH BEEFEATER AS A WHOLE COMPANY IF THEY HAVE SUCH LITTLE REGARD FOR THEIR CUSTOMERS.
