I was genuinely delighted to learn that Putney library has launched a new snack bar. I had the pleasure of enjoying a hot chocolate made by a young gentleman, who skillfully prepared it to perfection—not too sweet—and even included a lovely design. This enhancement to the library's, services that brings me considerable happiness.

I could not be more grateful for the team at Putney Pantry for their support last week. Myself and about 12 colleagues did a charity walk from tower bridge - Richmond and chose Putney Pantry as our lunch stop. The team took our pre order and had all sandwiches ready to go, pre wrapped as soon as we turned up and they were DELICIOUS. Thank you so much.

Our friend, Rod invited us to a celebratory set lunch at Putnry Pantry on 5th May. Putney Pantry is normally an informal ground floor cafe, adjacent and linked to St Mary's Putney. However, for more formal dining and for parties, they can use an upstairs dining room - which is spacious and bright, with seating for about 60 guests. Our lunch gathering was in the upstairs room and there were about 40 of us dining. Guests could choose from 3 starters, 3 mains and 3 desserts - all of which sounded wonderful, with a French accent - and turned out to be excellent! I had Jerusalem artichoke soufflé, chicory and walnut salad for starters. The soufflé (an ambitious dish for a set meal), turned out to be light, fluffy, well risen and very tasty - I loved it! The accompanying leaves were crunchy, vibrant and fresh and I could have made a meal out of them on their own! My friend enjoyed Crab and celeriac milles feuilles, Melba toast, watercress salad - tasty fresh crab in light pastry. On to the main dish. I chose Beef Wellington, wilted greens, smoked potato puree, shallot and garlic confit. The Wellington was well executed: tender beef surrounded by a melt-in-the-mouth pastry and the accompanying veg made for a delicious ensemble. My friend went for the Monkfish bourride, tender stem broccoli and samphire, saffron aioli. Th monkfish was beautifully cooked and the veg very fresh and clearly top quality. Dessert did not disappoint. The Pear Frangipane with vanilla ice cream was rich, light and tasty - a fine end to the meal and the Glazed lemon tart, raw honey crème fraiche was nicely balanced with good texture - 'yummy'! The service was efficient and unobtrusive and it all looked very professional and friendly. Congratulations to Chef Issa. I am thinking of doing another exciting culinery based event there with him in the near future.

This must be one of the little gems in Putney. Away from the noise and bustle of the high street and independent cafe. The food is freshly prepared by an enthusiastic team. They have many years experience and know their customers well. This is not a fast food place so stop and enjoy the experience along with others who also have time. Coffee is always excellent. Brunch is worth waiting for. Occasionally they hold special occasion meals, definitely a treat.

Unfortunately we will not be going back to Putney Pantry despite them doing a good breakfast. - During a previous recent visit, we asked for eggs to be scrambled not fried, which they said they could not do (despite not being that busy) - we asked for the fried eggs to be well done and they arrived runny. - The door always sticks open which makes it freezing in winter and noisy due to traffic - The last few times we have been they have played rock or rap music too loud, which as well as seeming out of place considering they're attached to a church (and I say that as an atheist), was just not nice to listen to over Sunday brunch All those things by themselves aren't much but this morning's visit combined with them is what made the decision for us: - It was ridiculously noisy. There was a church service/event finishing up and the amount of families who seems to go in and out of Putney Pantry several times back and forth or use it as a gathering spot was excessive. On top of that there were several kids running around and sliding about on their knees, swinging between vacant tables. That is not directly Putney Pantry's fault of course but if they are going to be a way into and out of the church and charge people to each there, its reasonable for paying customers not to want to to be a total zoo. None of the parents seemed interested in controlling their children. - There was a dog that simply would not stop barking at the next table. Whether you agree with dogs in restaurants or not, that is really anti-social and seemed to be acceptable. We don't expect to eat in silence but between the dog and the families back and forth, the noise was awful - When the food arrived, it was meat breakfasts not the vegetarian we had ordered. Some of it arrives on separate plates and we had to ask for all of it to be taken away and replaced, as some was left on the table initially - We decided to ask for a refund so we could leave, while we got one, it was a bit of a faff The staff were polite and apologetic about bringing the wrong food but overall a Sunday brunch should be a nice experience, not the mess that it was this morning. Unfortunately we have decided we won't be going back again. A shame as the food is good and the adjoining church is lovely, even if you're not religious.

Not a nice experience. I visited this place with my friend and when we entered we got approached by a person asking what do we need. When we replied that we would like to get breakfast this person told us that we will have to go somewhere else because they have some program going on soon in the church. I looked around and the place was filled with people eating and drinking. We asked if we can join for the service and were told it’s not possible. Not sure why because it was a normal Sunday service but we then apologised and asked if we can get a coffee to go. This person very annoyingly replied to go across the street to some coffee shop if we want a coffee and took us to the main door. Never understood the situation but didn’t want to create any drama in such a lovely place that was filled with people enjoying their Sunday morning. But definitely won’t come again. Thank you.

I am a regular here and really rate the owner and his great menu and food. However, today I came in for a simple order: Two poached eggs on a slice of sourdough with some wilted spinach. It took nearly 30 mins to arrive when the cafe wasn’t busy. The toast was dry and unbuttered (when it had been on a previous occasion) and it cost me £9. The rest of the meal was fine. The quality of food and service are usually fine, so I was disappointed today. I know I have to pay more now due to inflation but it’s frustrating when service is slow and the delay is not acknowledged by the server. I felt overcharged.

My wife and myself - together a visiting family member - were looking for somewhere on Putney High St to have a tasty snack earlier today and settled on the Putney Pantry which is an integral part of St Mary’s Church. We all settled for the Soup of the Day (Pumpkin with a blend of spice) which was served with some fresh bread and was very tasty. There were also a good range of other tempting dishes available and not difficult, therefore, to see why it is such a popular eatery. Another bonus is the ability to not only have a look around the impressive St Mary’s Church but to see the interesting Putney Debates 1647 Exhibition!

Great cafe which is attached to the church but so far no-one has tried to convert us - although their great brunch and homemade cakes might succeed! Seating inside and out is well spaced and staff are very pleasant. More seating outside might be worth looking at (if they're allowed to spread a little further) because several people walked away due to a lack of available tables. Also worth looking inside the church as there's a small historical exhibition about the history of Putney which is fascinating. Interesting architecture and layout inside the church as well.

Then - a light-bulb hit (metaphorically!).......I called ISSA - the chef and "boss" of PUTNEY PANTRY.....and worked out - with his help - a very special & crafted menu - with wine! It was delivered - personally - yesterday.......brother is AMAZED & THRILLED! The food is sooo very good....Cordon Bleu home-cooking....their savoury tarts; salmon fish-cakes; jacket potatoes......bread & butter pudding, pear frangipane tart.......luscious....all really gourmet cooking to enjoy!

Well where to begin. Now I know why we stopped going there. Used to be quite regular as I work nearby, first time I'd been for a couple of years ( COVID etc). On the night I visited, they had a huge choice of one ale, Sambrooks Junction, an average ale at best, if you look at the image on the Google listing of beer in a jug, you should be able to see through it, like the one I've attached, the beer I got was worse than the one they picture on the Google listing. The fish and chips were mediocre, you can see from their own picture how many chips you get, these are "triple fried", and some of them had done the full course at least 3 times, stick a fork in and they shatter. Portion of mushy peas in a thimble. Sorry, but disappointed, the first and last time I'll eat here and probably the last time I'll drink here as well. Over priced, only redeeming factors, the decor and the young lady serving in the dining area. Update: 15/10/24 I had the misfortune to be invited to the Wheatsheaf for a couple after work. I was the last to arrive, queued at the bar, tenner in hand, four people who came in after me were served before me, finally I was asked what I wanted, once again they had Sambrooks Junction on, so I asked for a pint, he went off to serve someone else, young guy dyed hair, black shirt, eventually got served by someone else, the beer was far too cold for an ale, cloudy and tasted awful, decided to drink it as I'd waited to long to get it, and probably longer to get it changed, made my mind up to have a Guinness for my next. 3* for food , wanted to order but one of us had to go and find someone to take the order, this was in the restaurant area. Good was of acceptable but not exceptional quality. 1* for service, see above. 3* for atmosphere, all hard surfaces, so noise just bounces off and everyone has too outshout the next table to be heard, that's why we elected to sit in the restaurant area. There are better places, to be polite about it.
