Purple Lounge Staines in Spelthorne

We came as a group of six at the weekend. The food was delicious. We tried different things and can recommend the fish curry, chilli lamb and honey cauliflower. We loved the fact it was a different menu to all the Indian restaurants we go to and can't wait to visit again.

Our first takeaway from this venue. Menu does not describe what’s in the dishes which is unusual these days. Having ordered similar dishes they were indistinguishable in their containers. It would have been nice if they labelled them. Prices are on the high side and for the price this would have been a nice touch. Taste was ok but dishes were very, very oily. Last used this venue when it was Svetlanas and it was very good and much better than now. Won’t be ordering from here again I’m afraid.

Absolutely terrible! Foul smell. Chicken was full of oil no taste. Fish was frozen and hard absolutely the worst service and no answer on the phone when you call to complain!

Visited twice with as a couple, ordered across the menu and pleasantly surprised, no generic paste tasting food here. Each dish authentically mastered to a very high standard. Food arrived in a timely fashion accurately and hot. This place has to be Staines’s biggest secret - what luck to stumble into - going again tonight - can’t wait

Nipped in here as so convenient when staying at the Premier Inn. Very good meal. Large portions. Could do with some wine choices though.

Had dinner here, while overall OK, the service rather slow and the food reasonable. May be that due to being mid week and low turn out they did not have the staff.

Food was nice but had to wait a long time for it the staff were not very friendly and never came over and asked if we wanted another drink they missed out my main dish and had to share the restaurant is set out nice but the service was not good and even though the food was nice I would not return

Met with friends to enjoy a meal here on Saturday, sadly we were the only people in and no idea why, as the food was amazing, so tasty.the naan breads best I've tasted, samosas, very spicy, and tasty. Had biriyani, which was full of flavour, needed a sauce with it, but used my partners rogan josh, which was outstanding. Cannot fault the flavours. Only thing I would say, if you are looking for a traditional old fashioned curry, this is not it, but the flavours are so much better. Staff are always friendly and attentive, don't know why it is not more popular, best curry in miles....

I will start with the positives, it has a pleasant decor, it is clean, the cauliflower starter was fantastic and once the food arrived it came quite quickly, however that's where the positive notes end and we go back to the start. The restaurant was almost empty and yet we still had to wait a while for someone to attend to us, we were just about to leave when someone appeared. We sat at the table then had another extended wait before anyone came to ask if we wanted drinks, not mind take the food order. As mentioned, the cauliflower is very good however our other starter and the mains were bland and disappointing. The staff were unengaged and did not give you the welcoming feeling you enjoy often in restaurants. With so many other options, this is not one we will be visiting again.

We have eaten at a myriad of Indian Restaurants in the UK but never experienced anything like this really. What was served to us would not be classed as 'Authentic' Indian cuisine anyway I suspect and this is why: Four of us eat here for the first [and last] time. This is what we had: Two Chicken Biryanis- No Vegetable curry served as the side, which is normal everywhere, and so the Dish was very dry and with very little chicken in it; both parties left most of it for those reasons. One Chicken Korma and One Chicken Tikka Masala- These were both diced chicken served in a Pataks or Sharwood type sauce and this is not how I have ever seen these dishes offered or made. The Naan was limited and appeared 'bought in', heated and buttered. Couldn't do a stuffed naan [that tells you all you need to know really] Bite size onion Bhajis...not much good either really. Add to this a crowd of 8 extra noisy young men, obviously enjoying themselves but made it impossible to talk almost....BUT that is not the point....this review is about the Food and Authenticity of it's supposed indian food...IF ONLY we had gone back to Shahee Mahal across the road where they do it properly....lesson learned.

Have read lots of other positive reviews and truly wish it was as quoted but ours was woeful. Flashing faulty lights above table 1 lady (very helpful) serving with no one else in sight 45 minutes for starters (2 missing ) Another 45 minutes for main course (1 missing) All 7 curry’s tasted the same (hot) spices with no variation in the different dishes ordered Shutters closed down whilst we ate Had David Brent or Basil Faulty came out to say hello all would have made sense. Think we caught the place on a ‘bad day at the office’ moment I hope so as the lady waitress did her best with minimal support

On arrival we were able to choose where to sit, which was lovely. The menu was broad, lots of choice and even the option to ask for something that wasn't on the menu. The staff were friendly, helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The food was delicious, from the onion bhajis, which were the best I've had to the whole meal and the liqueur coffee for pudding. Overall, an amazing experience and we highly recommmend. Thank you!

Popped in this evening last minute, after a day at Thorpe park. As soon as we entered we felt welcomed by what we over heard to be the owner. It was just him and one other waitress on and they both were excellent! Honestly I couldn’t say a bad word about the food. As a chef myself I even found myself marvelling at the little details they put into their dishes to give it their own identity. I know I was in for a good food experience the moment I detected somewhat of a lemony taste in the onion bhaji. Madras was rich with a great kick. Naans were greatly flavoured and lovely and crispy. The bill was extremely fairly priced and if anything was willing to pay more for that standard of food! Left feeling sorry that me and my partner are not from the area! Anyone looking for somewhere for dinner after a trip to Thorpe park, I would highly recommend. 5 star all around.

On arrival the staff where friendly & very welcoming., The dishes we ordered where out of this world, especially The chefs special of crispy chilli lamb.. my husband said it was the best dish he has ever had & that not just Indian food... we would highly recommend you try this little gem out.. thank you to all staff for making our visit perfect.. the prices are pocket happy too...

Ordered food which arrived wrong and clearly wasn’t what we ordered as it was way too hot. Called the restaurant to be told oh well I’m closing now. Basically they have given us whatever curry they had left.

Very good Indian food, perhaps the best in the area. Have tried a range of dishes and all have been of good quality.

Working away and staying at the premier Inn over the road popped in the other day and shunned how good the food was great depth of favour and spiced perfectly. Had to try the masala fries and they were great as well, staying there again...

We went to Purple Lounge, on a trip from Manchester. This is the best curry we have had in a long time. Flavour, spice, delicious from start to finish. Staff couldn’t do enough, always friendly and smiling. Highly recommend, you wouldn’t be disappointed.

We were staying at the Premier Inn and facnied a curry, Purple Lounge was just across the road. First impression was very good, nice layout and decor, staff friendly and helpful, great selection on menu and superb prices. The food was fabulous. Highly recommeneded.
