PURO in North Somerset

My first visit to PURO, a birthday celebration booked by my daughter. From the moment we walked we were made very welcome, The dining area is contemporary and modern, I liked the bookshelves filled with some amazing cookbooks for inspiration. We opted for the a la carte menu over the tasting menu, This menu, perfectly sized with enough choice but not overbearing. Also included nice extras along with the three main courses. Initially presented with some of the softest honey soaked brioche with a whipped marmite butter to get us started, we knew there were good things to come. A warming miso dashi soup followed before we were presented with our first course, I opted for the poussin others took the pork belly, every plate was perfectly appointed and the dish presented to us at the table, the food was amazing, perfect balance of flavour and texture. To follow, venison, others took the duck or the brill, again perfect plates of food, presented and explained as they arrived. Our final course chocolate cremeax was amazing smooth velvety chocolate with a light almond cream perfectly balanced with a sharp yoghurt sorbet. As we sat back feeling satisfied, a final plate of treats came out for us to enjoy as we finished our wine and sat back thinking about the amazing food over the last few hours.

Sublime food and service across the board!

This was one of the best meals we have ever had. It was a birthday treat for my wife, and she was very happy with all that was consumed. The service was excellent and the nice touch of the chef who came and presented the dish was a fantastic addition. We have eaten at Tom Kerridges "hand of flowers" and I thought this meal was far superior. This is my 1st time leaving a review, so maybe that's a testament of how much we loved the food. I had the Mackeral starter, followed by the duck and finished with the cheese and carrot jam crumpet. My wife had the pork belly starter, roasted vension, and the fig, blackcurrant and mascarpone pudding. The pricing was on par with the service and quality of the meals served. On another note, make sure if its a birthday treat say when you book. We didn't, because many times before no surprise came. And this time the four tables around us had an extra surprise. Shame, but this just shows that extra touch. We will definitely returning, good job Puro.

Very good food , wine and other drinks very expensive , rather dull cheese course . First venue is pleasant , well set out and with good parking ( a nice change in Clevedon . Staff also were excellent , hard working , knowledgeable and efficient. The food was great , i had an aubergine starter which was delicious and the a faultless venison dish . The portions are smallish but so rich and well executed, with some spectacular sources and are therefore very satisfying snd tasty . All the mains and starters the 4 of us had were great as were the deserts the others had . I was disappointed in the cheese course ii had , seemed to have been thrown together with little thought . There are so many super cheeses available now i thought in a place like this they could have done a lot more. The only other criticism was the price of booze , for example a couple of very good English sparkling wines by the glass - but if you did the maths a bottle was being sold £80/90 or more . Everyone expects a mark up but this did seem crazy as was £50 a bottle for some nice if ordinary Barolo . Still a very nice experience on the whole and a great gain for the Bristol area restaurant scene . Perhaps i am being a bit grumpy over the wine but the cost / quality equation was very high here.

Thank you for a great evening, as we enjoyed a fantastic meal, with really some friendly service. We couldn’t fault anything, with the food & wine very fairly priced…. We will definitely be back 👍

We had wanted to try this restaurant for a while and finally managed to visit this week....it did not disappoint. From start to finish, it was cooking of the highest calibre using wonderful ingredients and beautifully presented. I think we are very fortunate to have a kitchen of this quality in our area and if you are a fan of fantastic food, then I would urge you to visit.

The service was absolutely fantastic. Oliver and his team are attentive and we had drinks and food ordered quickly. The food was absolutely amazing. The balance of flavours and the portion sizes were just enough that you left feeling the right amount of full at the end of the meal. Tommy and his kitchen staff are very knowledgeable and come out of the kitchen to explain the dishes to you which made the whole experience very personable. By far my favourite dish was the Chalk Stream Trout. Thank you Tommy and Team and can’t wait to be back soon

Dined here last night and have to say best meal I have ever had. Visited 2 years ago and the food was good but the new chef has definitely taken it up to a new level. Could not fault anything - food amazing, staff friendly and attentive, atmosphere relaxed. Highly recommend this place. We will definitely be returning.

We were staying one night in Clevedon, looked for somewhere to have dinner and this looked perfect. We were right - on a very hot Sunday night it was fairly quiet - we chose our table at the front near the door for some air and it was lovely and private. We chose the 3 course a-la-carte menu (they had an 8 course tasting menu too) and everything from the complimentary homemade roll and amuse bouche through all the courses was absolutely perfect with wonderful flavours and presentation (and not tiny portions like some places either!) Had a great bottle of white and service was outstanding from our server to the chef himself who brought and explained our mains! A really great find which we will revisit if in the area again!

I had the pleasure of dining at PURO recently, and it was an outstanding experience. The restaurant is light and relaxing. The service was excellent throughout, friendly, knowledgeable, but not overly zealous. The food is wonderful, perfectly balanced, familiar but with a new twist due to Chef Tommy's Asian influence on his British classics. It's tough to choose between the monkfish and the mackerel, for real standouts, but every dish is a wonderful experience. I cannot recommend Puro highly enough. Thanks to all for a wonderful evening.

Lovely fine dining. The whole team clearly love the food and are passionate about it. Best food I have tasted in a long time. Great value for the quality. I had the pigeon to start followed by the beef. Both were incredibly tasty and beautifully cooked. The chocolate dessert was wonderful. Thank you for a wonderful meal.

Our party of 6 opted for the 3 course meal, it was an absolutely outstanding meal. The monkfish main was probably the group favourite.

Had the most amazing dining experience at Puro by Tommy Thorn. The food was delicious, cleverly conceived, and presented beautifully. Service was exceptional too. Very impressed by this new restaurant that will likely put Clevedon on the map. We enjoyed some pre-dinner drinks upstairs at Vintage & Vine which we absolutely loved! Beautiful decor and an outstanding wine collection to choose from.

Puro is a lovely restaurant, tucked away behind Hill Street it's a comfortable, friendly place serving excellent and high quality fine dining. The staff are lovely, friendly and efficient and we will be back again!!

We were really looking forward to trying Puro with Tommy Thorn, however we were disappointed. The portion sizes were minuscule, although the taste of the starter and dessert were excellent, My main was lukewarm, fine for my husband who doesn’t like his food hot. Also appreciate its a small venue but our table was next to the kitchen which was distracting every time the door opened, so if booking something to consider. Have just read the owner response so also wanted to add, that we ordered three courses, I don’t consider a brioche bun and a small dish of beetroot and ice cream 2 course's. Also it would have been nice if we could have asked for the bill rather than it being brought to the table when our desert dishes had been cleared “just saying”.

Our best meal in years! The food was excellent and the staff was lovely. The best way to celebrate our one year anniversary with a lovely surprise from the staff in the end. Can only recommend and would love to come back!

We had a family birthday celebration at Puro. The service was friendly and professional. The food was delicious and well presented. Tommy came out of the kitchen to discuss some of the food detail. Overall a lovely evening out and great to have a fine dining option in Clevedon.

A fine dining establishment with a set menu, if you are out for a special meal it would be a place to try. No dedicated parking but on street parking in the area is available.

We were extremely excited for Puro to reopen as we loved it prior to closing however we were disappointed on our return. Firstly the front of house is thoroughly miserable and gave the most unfriendly welcome and service. We know he is a co-owner and so should make way more effort. There is no warmth and friendliness at all and it really lets the place down. We felt the same before it closed but expected the reopening would make him happier and the fact he is still the same completely ruins the experience. The menu was smaller than expected so limited choices but what we did have was delicious. The flavours were insane, however the portion size was tiny. As a vegetarian the main course was one small piece of broccoli and the lamb my partner had was about the size of a thumb. So whilst it was tasty we did leave hungry, which at £50 a head for food is not what we’d expect. Not sure if we will go back, not because the food wasn’t delicious but not value for money for the portion size and miserable service.

Such a lovely experience. We were lucky enough to secure a table for Tommy Thorn's guest chef evening this week. The food was exceptional with a well matched wine flight to accompany it. The lamb was a highlight, although the monkfish was also really good. I didn't get photos of those dishes. Pudding was Tommy's signature take on an Espresso Martini, as seen on Masterchef. The most exciting news of the night was to learn that he is joining Puro as co-owner and chef Patron from 8th May! We look forward to returning again soon.

Amazing pork cheeks (bath chaps) with crumb covered poached egg, simply melted in the mouth. Perfectly cooked chateaubriand with a fantastic bearnaise sauce. One of the best sticky toffee puddings I've had coated in a little bit of PX sherry. Very attentive service throughout making it an exceptional dining experience.

We had a stunning dinner at Puro. To start with we enjoyed the charcuterie board, cod roe and bread and mussels which were all simply excellent. We then both had the Chicken supreme for mains which was so stunning. It was such a fine dining experience and the service was really great. The two ladies serving us were so kind and lovely. The Prosecco was really great too, a nice sweet one which is my favourite! We also popped upstairs to the bar after for a glass of red which was really warming and full bodied - a great suggestion. Thank you Puro for a lovely evening.

Had a beautiful mother's day Sunday roast, huge thanks to Branco and the front of house team today! We eat out in Bristol a lot and came to Clevedon purely to visit Puro. All the food was perfectly cooked - we had the pork, the rare beef and the lamb and couldn't fault it. The poached pears with honeycomb and the sticky toffee pudding were out of this world. We really recommend Puro and then a beautiful seaside walk. Thanks again to Branco, the front of house team and compliments to the kitchen!

Sole very difficult to eat because there were side bones. Pims was watered down. Expensive meal not worth it

We went on Sunday evening and it was very quiet. However the food and service are very good. Branco was very knowledgeable and could not have been more attentive, we had the torched maceral and scallops for a starter, sublime 👌 Followed by the hake and beef and again really outstanding, we will be back, thank you

Beautiful experience! Lovely attentive service, each course with exquisitely presented dishes, perfectly cooked and quality not quantity! The espresso was absolutely superb, next time will order a double! £££ but worth it for something out of the ordinary! Recommended (and would return). Limited customer parking. WIFI was available :-)

We had a wonderfully relaxed evening here with friends we'd not seen for a while. The food was delicious, beautifully cooked and presented. We were not rushed, and were well looked after. I'd recommend to anyone.

Underground sense of gloom, plain decor with little or no atmosphere. Food ok, what there was of it..such mean portions and a main without even a smattering of carbs does not really constitute a satisfying meal.. no dis to the paleos. For all that overpriced, especially the wine. Very dissapointing experience.

Wow what a restaurant!! A hidden gem! Tallon, who was front of house and waiter made us feel so welcome. He was happy and bubbly and gave the whole restaurant a friendly feel. The food!!! I've never had bread as a starter that melts in your mouth. I had the pork tenderloin and it was cooked to perfection! The brocoli wasn't over cooked and wasn't under cooked. You could feel the time and effort that had gone into this dish and that was just mine! My partner had the rump steak and again cooked totally to perfection. Everything was in perfect quantities and just right! The cheese board finished it all off 😋 We will definitely be going back. Perfect restaurant!

I cannot recommend Puro enough. If you are looking for the best in Clevedon this is the place to be. The food is outstanding (honestly try it and you’ll see) amazing chefs and amazing staff that cater to your every need and look after you so well during your time with them. The restaurant is lovely inside and out.

We booked a table for Thursday night, so it was relatively quite. The service was very good with a new floor manager keeping us fed and watered. The starter we chose was mussels and scallops which were both beautifully cooked . The mussel sauce with chorizo and cream was good enough to eat as a soup! The main dishes were hake and steak, again, very well cooked. The steak is 'twice cooked', seared at very high temperature then left until required to be cooked to the right level. This seems to give the steak a caramelized almost crunchy covering. Genius idea and very good to eat. We chatted to the charming owner and discussed the wine we chose. While I realise it was a quite night and a busier night may produce different results we both thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at what we consider to be the best place in town!

All I can say is WOW! My husband took me to my favourite place for Valentines. We had a tasting menu and everything was exceptional. Snacks - Brioche with smoked cod’s roe & melon with chilli & lime. Starters - Scallops which were delicious. Mains - Chateaubriand share board, we were so full we could just about share one pudding which was chocolate fondant with a pineapple sorbet & honeycomb. The pineapple sorbet was amazing! And the other amazing thing was we had all of this for £55 per person!!! Exceptional value for such good quality service & food.

Dreadful food, appalling service. We had previously given Puro two 5 * reviews. The last time it was dreadful. Instead of front of house with terrific interpersonal skills, This time it was “ whatever”. We have never returned, and we won’t. The food was poor quality and the onglet was inedible and as sent back. We were charged full price for meals and wine. My wife eat her offering I left mine. We gave a. 1* review to tip adviser but it seems to have disappeared. When we submitted our review it the owner offered a free wine with our next visit. We refused. I’m only writing again because the original review seems to have disappeared.. This has reduced my confidence in Tripadviser, and confirmed that we will not return to Puro.

Food, wine and service excellent. High quality food. Atmosphere was low, I found the room to be pretty stark. It was cold too, bit it was freezing outside to be fair to them. I would go back. Maybe in spring or summer

Incredible meal in a lovely setting.

Fantastic food, cannot fault it. Delicious. The bad bit. Some menu items were out already by 8 o’clock. Service was far too slow. An hour and a quarter to receive our food. No apology for the lateness of this either. And being busy is not an excuse- surely that’s what you’re there for- to be busy? That’s a shame because this is a nice restaurant.

We experienced a lovely dinner at Puro. The food is absolutely delicious. Presented perfectly and Kirsten was an amazing host. She recommended the most amazing wine to pair with our dinner choices. The Chef came out to greet us which was a really special touch. We can't wait to return soon. Highly recommend.

Simply STUNNING. A friend brought me here, we attended on their 5 course wine tasting seafood dinner. I had heard great things previously, but for some reason I hadn't visited until now. A cute hidden Gem with elegant and cosy decor. A lovely personalized wine selection with some unique but delicate whites. A couple of great English wines also. Hands down my favorite dish was the Mackerel, this is something I would never look at on a menu, however fortunate for me it was included and I was delighted I tried it. For that dish alone I would go back. I'll be back.

Dined here last year and decided it was a perfect location for our wedding reception, especially as Vintage & Vine Wine Bar immediately above was also available for us, making it ideal for our evening venue including additional guests. Staff extremely co-operative, supportive and attentive. Meal options were amazing and quality of food served exceptional. Highly recommended, whether for an intimate meal or small wedding reception venue.
