Food...meh! ok, Coffee...my first thought was stewed water! I think it was the end of a weak pot. At the till there was no "How was everything?" I think they knew, so I didn't say. Don't think I'll be back.

Spent a full morning waiting for car flat tyre to be fixed while working on laptop. Coffee with bacon & scrambled egg bagel was delicious, much better than your coffee shop chains plain food. Local produce and the homemade cheese scone was brilliant. Friendly, cosy wee cafe, busy which tells you how good it is. Will be going back very soon.

We went in for a coffee and as the place was quite busy thought we would be in luck. After sitting on the plastic covered, very upright seats we asked for espressos. Only to be told they only sold instant or filtered coffee. Even it had said it was a tea room of a cafe I wouldn’t have been so surprised but a coffee shop that doesn’t the facilities to make coffee! Really!

We were on our way home from a weeks holiday and decided to stop into Forfar . We walked up from the car park and spotted Purdy's it looked welcoming , we only had breakfast rolls and coffee but they were really good we also requested some cakes to take with us for later and they were very tasty. What we noticed and liked was that the coffee shop had regulars .Very impressive for a small business not surprising as the staff were friendly.

This little cafe is off the beaten track and a great surprise. I arrived in Forfar ready to eat and went into the first place I found (apart from the derelict looking pub). I ordered a croissant and was delighted. It was generous, looked good and service was great. It’s a very friendly place - nice to see a little nod to New Zealand on the menu too!

We met up with our friend to catch up and walk our dogs. There were 3 of us and 4 dogs. We couldn’t find anywhere dog friendly in the main part of town and then spotted Purdys. We had to wait for a table and then a very kind lady moved seats to let us onto a bigger table to get all four dogs underneath it ! Very friendly staff - and other customers - made us very welcome and admired how well our dogs behaved(especially as all four are Beagles ! ) We thoroughly enjoyed our paninis, cake and coffees. Great value for money. We would definitely recommend Purdys. Thank you.

Popped in to Purdy’s for lunch while waiting for my daughter to finish an appointment and wasn’t disappointed. I’ve been in many times before, when it was under previous ownership, as Alison’s and now as Purdy’s, and have never come away wishing I had gone elsewhere, unlike in some places locally. A warm welcome from the staff as I took my seat and I was given time to peruse the menu, quickly deciding on a baked potato with prawn filling, a pot of tea, and a cold drink while I waited for the tea to mask. My order was taken quickly and efficiently and I settled in to read my iPad in peace. One of the few minor tweaks I’d make to the place is slightly less upright seating but it does one’s posture good to sit properly so shouldn’t complain. ;) I don’t know if there is free WiFi or not as I didn’t try to find it, but normal signal is good and besides, I’d bearly had time to read a few emails when my drinks arrived, followed swiftly by my lunch. My baked potato was well cooked and filled with fresh tasting prawns in a Marie-rose sauce. I had a lovely fresh side salad, simple but effective, shredded iceberg lettuce with a slice or two of cucumber, same of tomato and a light dressing, with a spoonful of coleslaw at the side. It looked appealing and tasted very good. All I could, and did, ask for of a small town cafe with no airs and graces. You don’t expect cordon bleu in Forfar and certainly not in a cafe with very reasonable prices and a plain but great wholesome menu. The benefits of this cafe are the friendliness of the staff, the warm welcome and the fact that they treat all customers with respect and value them, whether they spend £2 or £20! The elderly folks seem to love it there and the Scots are a canny lot, so if they didn’t like it, it would be empty! I’ve never seen this place empty! It doesn’t have the longest opening hours but it’s predominantly a breakfast and lunch type cafe and they don’t do high teas, but if that’s what you’re looking for there are places nearby. The cafe looked clean and tidy, you can see the staff at work behind the counter, nothing is hidden from you, a good health and hygiene standard is employed. The toilets are clean and fresh, albeit up a couple of steps which might put off those with mobility issues. Oh, and mind duck your head if you’re a bit on the tall side ;) Overall I highly recommend this for a tasty lunch, be it soup and sandwich or fresh baked scones you’re after. Their home baking is a real hit with the locals and is definitely to be tried!

Café is very clean and stilish, comfortable seat, unfortunately food was not very impressive. My husband ordered roll and sausage for his breakfast, sausage was microwaved and very hard, this made it very unappetising. My latte was too hot, very milky and lacking in taste, on positive side their scones were freshly baked and tasty. The people working there were nice and friendly.

Up to show one of my classic cars the next day at Glamis, popped into Forfar for a wander round then wanted a drink and snack. Went into Purdys for Earl Grey tea with a fruit scone, jam and cream. The scone was still hot out of the oven which was lovely, as was the jam and cream. Customers came in with a small dog, which surprised me. Service/working dogs I quite agree with but I was a bit surprised to see a (albeit small) dog allowed in. I just hope the waitress washed her hands after stroking it.

We have been here for lunch before and enjoyed it - usually something simple like soup and a sandwich but always happy enough. Today I decided on the 'salad platter' as it was such a hot day, a square plate with a few slices of chicken (nice and plentiful enough) but the salad consisted of a pile of iceberg lettuce strips with a few bits of diced cucumber and 2 cherry tomatoes halved with a dressing over it. The only thing I had specified apart from the chicken was that I didn't want raw onion. I would have liked peppers, carrots, coleslaw/potato salad, maybe a boiled egg but there was nothing else. The only difference between mine and the side salad on the other plates was that i had a bigger pile of lettuce. When my mum went up to pay she was asked if everything was all right and said fine but the salad was a bit bare - no reply. The only reason I gave 3 stars rather than less is that we have enjoyed previous visits.

Popped into Purdy's for a coffee and a snack at 15.45 Monday afternoon. Approx 4 sets of eyes greeted our entry and 3 immediate rather loud comments of " We"re closed " greeted us. Pardon me ladies I do apoligise. We left feeling quite embarrassed that we dared look for a coffee at such a late hour in the day!! I did however check the comments on Trip Advisor and found the only real negative which seemed to pop up quite often was the rude staff. Ah well plenty other coffee shops in town which were still open, and greeted our custom, thankfully.

I am usually in The Airlie Arms, in Kirriemuir, on Saturday mornings, for a regular meeting, but unforseen circumstances caused me to have to face the winter-logged road to Forfar this snowy day and I had an hour's wait to endure so repaired to Purdy's Coffee Shop, in Castle Street, to see if they too sold teas. No worries on that count. Three young ladies were on duty and, quickly, I had my tea on the table and my bacon and egg roll on the way. I was completely delighted with the very welcome service, food and drink I received there ... In nice, clean and tidy, pleasantly simple surroundings. The wee place filled up quickly and it became, thought I, a fine local pit stop esp for those who crave company and good food.

now before I start I must mention that I've been here before and it was quite pleasant but today we stopped in to get soup, I walked in and I could tell it was lentil soup and it smelled lovely so I ordered it and what I got was a bowl of coloured water (not one lentil), even when I was having my soup I saw one of the girls get a massive jug which had lentil soup in the bottom and she then poured litres of water into it and microwaved it, which ruined it. When I went to pay I was asked how my lunch was and I told them that the soup wasn't that nice and you can see that both myself and my partner had left pretty much full bowls but I wasn't looking for anything just answering a question, I was then asked if I had added salt and pepper (what!!!!) and then when I was given my receipt I was told like a child 'well nobody else has complained so there', so now a quandary what was worse the soup or the poor attitude by the staff, expect to here bad news from time to time and not get so upset when a customer isn't happy. Try Tiffin's around the corner, much much better

The soup here is really good, homemade, thick, tasty and warming, the sort of food that makes you feel you've eaten well and been healthy at the same time. It comes with a choice of white or brown bread or a cheese scone, it's a pity the scone is only a half, if the whole thing had been offered at a small extra price I'm sure a lot of people would be willing to pay, ourselves included. My partner just had coffee and a cheese scone, the coffee was a good strength and in a nice size of mug. The scone whilst light and a good size was served warm, I would doubt in the middle of the afternoon it was out of the oven, it would of been preferable to have it cold rather than microwaved. The scone looked really cheesy but it was a bit bland, if I had shut my eyes I would of said it was a plain scone as it was on the sweet side and needed a good strong cheddar and a wee bit of mustard, the nice touch though was it that it was served with a pat of marg or a couple of pats of butter and a good size dish of jam.The cake display in here is excellent, I have had cakes here in the past and they are really good. So much of the food here is made on the premises to a really good standard, it's well worth a visit.

Go early at lunchtime if you want a seat. Tasty simple menu is great value which is why this cafe is popular with many locals. The take-away home made soup with cheese scone is a favourite for a quick workday lunch. It is amazing how so much lovely fare comes from the tiny 'open to view' kitchen space. The seating is primarily in booths for up to 4 people and they also manage to fit in a small toy equipped side area for young families with small children - not much room for more than one pushchair at a time though.

I always really enjoyed the culinary philosophy here so too say I was dissapointed with my last visit would be quite an understatement. The board used to be packed with choices of lovingly prepared and cleverly devised home cooked dishes which always presented a problem in deciding which of them to order. On my most recent visit however, there was nothing special about the specials board. Soup of the day and a vegetarian option if my memory serves.Regardless I ordered the Soup and Panini deal and my partner, an all day breakfast. My 'carrot and coriander' soup seemed like nothing more than carrots and milk through a food processor and my bacon, brie and onion chutney panini was comprised of two small pieces of brie, undercooked, fatty, stringy bacon and an overbearing chutney that cancelled any other flavour lucky enough too make it onto the plate!!! My partners all day breakfast looked alot like it had been sitting in the kitchen waiting for a waitress all day. A combination of the same disgusting bacon and a collection of under or overcooked items, none of which bettered the quality of the toast served with the dish! I assume there has been a change of chef along with the change of name and all i can say is what a shame! I personally would be embarrassed to serve the kind of food we tried to eat on our last visit. I only hope the situation is rectified quickly because this is only one bad experience after many excellent ones in Smalls Coffee House. But what a bad one it was!
