I had a very disappointing experience at Punjab Indian Restaurant. Ordered Kadai Paneer, Chicken Tikka Masala, and Aloo Mattar Sabzi, and all of them were cooked in the same sauce, with no distinction in flavor. The Lamb Biryani was overly heavy with tomatoes, which overwhelmed the dish. Overall, the food lacked authenticity and flavor. Not worth the visit. Very bad experience. Would not recommend.

We got the chicken Tikka masala and lamb karahi. On the menu, under chicken Tikka it's written: "Our 1973 formula continues to withstand the test of time". Unfortunately the Tikka masala resembled more of a simple tomato soup rather than a quality Indian curry. It was barely thick, and was missing any depth or special flavour. To be fair, The naans and the lamb karahi were good. But the Tikka masala experience left me with no desire to give this place another chance.

Dear Management , I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to express my disappointment regarding my recent experience at your restaurant. My partner and I were invited to dine there by a friend who was running about 10 minutes late. When we arrived, I inquired about being seated, only to be informed that we could not be accommodated until all three of us were present. I explained that we were ready to order and understood that food preparation takes time. However, the individual who identified himself as the General Manager refused to seat us or offer an alternative solution. I felt it necessary to seek clarification on this policy, as it seemed unreasonable, but my concerns were met with dismissiveness. It was quite embarrassing to stand outside and attempt to communicate our situation, especially considering we were there based on a recommendation. Unfortunately, the response I received was unhelpful, and I was asked to wait outside. I typically do not voice complaints, but I believe it is important for management to be aware of how such interactions can impact customer satisfaction. This experience has led me to reconsider dining at your establishment in the future, and I feel compelled to share this feedback with friends and family. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I hope it can lead to improvements in your customer service. Sincerely, Baktash

The service staff is very friendly, kind and really open, even for special needs and wishes. We had wine, an Indian Chardonnay, so unique and delicious - surprisingly with a fruity bitterness. The kids were happy to make the perfect choice, a chicken korma. I tried an Indian beer as well to serve my thirst before we had the wine. Ist tasted fruity, smooth and slightly herbal.

This was my first visit to the restaurant. I ordered butter chicken, being their signature dish. I got surprised when I understood that the rice should be paid on top (4.5 £) adding an extra 25% to the food price. Butter chicken tasted OK –chicken was overcooked, the stew was nothing special. The aromatic rice, despite being pricey, was tasteless and of low quality; affecting the whole experience negatively. I was in London for one week, so do not know the tipping rules there. Although they included 10% extra service fee, the waiter exclusively asked for tipping. I hope I was not rude to deny it.

I visited Punjab Restaurant in 2011 (was very impressed) and this time with family and friends (joined me because of my recommendation) in July 2024. Massive difference in the quality. I’m an Indian hence I know the flavour, taste and aroma. The food (specially the curry) base was ok but the finish was not good - the flavour was certainly missing. May be, this would have happened because we visited in the afternoon on a weekday and the main chef was not there. Would rate the food quality to be below average. Disappointing and didn’t enjoy the food (felt, wasted our money) - will not come back.

We are from the US and back in 2018, we had rated this place 5*. During our Jul 2024 visit to London we were looking forward to dining here again. Unfortunately, this place is not the same, the food was a big disappointment. It was shocking to see such a sharp decline in the quality of their food. We ordered Paneer Masala and dal Makhni along with cheese naan. All of them were horrendous. The dishes were watery like soup and had no flavor. The cheese naan practically had no cheese. I had to pull apart the whole naan to find a crumb of cheese somewhere. It’s a shame this place has deteriorated so much, this restaurant used to be a London institution when it comes to Indian restaurant. No longer☹️

Lovely restaurant, but unfortunately the service was terrible. We ordered some garlic naan and it came stale, with dry piece of garlic one it, while the family next to us has some fresh naan instead. At my mothers behest I asked the server if we could get some fresh naan, just like the family next to us, and I apologized to the server for being picky. Then they came back with the same exact naan, I thought it was a joke. I asked why they would bring it back, and they just stared at me and blankly said it was good, when it was clearly some old stale naan. I asked again, and again it was literally the same exact piece, not even warmed, and the same blank expression from the server. It was a bizarre experience. Really disappointing, but other people seemed to be enjoying their meal, so we might’ve just gotten unlucky with our server.

One of the few places in London that serves authentic Indian cuisine with a good use of spices resulting in food with a taste that scratches that itch of wanting a homely meal away from home. There were plenty of vegan options on the menu, but beware! The when you order the vegetable biryani (vegan on the menu) you are told it comes with an accompaniment and asked which accompaniment you want (raita or curry). Obviously raita isn’t vegan so we chose curry thinking that must be the vegan option, considering the biryani is advertised as vegan. We were wrong. I swelled up like a big fat balloon. It would be good if the staff said “would you like an accompaniment? Neither option is vegan. If you have a lactose-intolerance, don’t have an accompaniment”. All the other vegan items we ordered were delicious. Apart from the one hiccup, the service was very good. The atmosphere was good except for the two racist men sitting at the next table, but that’s hardly the restaurants fault! In fact it is testament to the professionalism and patience of the staff that they treated the two men with undeserved respect throughout. I would eat here again.

This place is amazing. We heled a surprise birthday party with them and the service was absolutely incredible. They allowed us to come early and decorate and offered us two rooms for the party. Firstly the little function room downstairs for the initial Surprise and welcome drinks, then we were given a private room upstairs for the dinner. We had a personal waiter for the evening and were truly looked after. Oh and I haven't even mentioned the food yet!! THE FOOD WAS DELICIOUS! Thank you so much to everyone who made the birthday party such a success, I will most definitely be visiting again!

Very bad food. They're just proud of being there from 1946 but doesn't care about the quality and the taste of the food. It is no where near to authentic Indian/Punjabi food. Just had a lunch and feels like complete wastage of money. Had communicated our displeasure to the manager but he doesn't seems to care. Very disappointed. It made our lovely day, a bad one. Will never visit this restaurant again

The food lacks flavor. For Indian or desi ppl, we know this isn’t authentic or flavorful. For Americans/british.. this food is fine. I didn’t enjoy it he taste. Service was good
