Prince of Wales in South Tyneside

Popped in for a meal and a drink after seeing an advertisement.. popular local pub with canny food and drink, was quite a few people in and the staff did a great job in keeping them all happy.. Well done to the staff there

We Went to the Prince of wales for the Carabao Cup on Sunday. We had booked a table on line with the Greene King App. The process is so easy on the App. When we arrive the table was all set with a reserved sign on it. We decided to open a Tab because we planned on eating a meal while we were there and I thought it would get full for the match. As the game time approached the pub began to get really busy but we still got served pretty quickly. The staff were quick and in a very upbeat mood. By the time the match started the pub was bouncing and there was a really relaxed and positive mood in the place. At half time I ordered a Burger meal and it was excellent as usual, it arrived really quick considering how full it was. All in all it was a great day out for our family and friends, the pub was rocking as everybody was cheering and cuddling each other over the match. I cannot recommend the prince enough for a great day out.

Came from Scotland, found this on Google searches as was closed to hotel, food was amazing, the bar was a bit roudy as it was a sat night and football was on so to be expected will defo be back when visiting the area!

Wasn't too impressed with the food unfortunately, it was totally underwhelming. Very friendly staff though.

Took the family there for a meal, brilliant food, excellent service, and would definitely recommend it. I can't wait to visit again. A massive thank you to all the staff.

This pub is falsely advertising that it does food till 9pm when this is not the case.

Food was nice and reasonably priced, service perfect and staff very friendly. Free parking which is always a bonus. Plenty of screens if you are there to watch the football. Although it was busy the atmosphere was quite reserved and not rowdy so perfect if you are there for food like we were.

They advertise football everywhere, they have about 8 screens; so you would have thought they would have put the volume on… but they don’t

Excellent food and drinks. Shame can't be said about the bar staff. Only interested in having a chat behind the bar when people are waiting and then when they do serve obviously the LOCALS get served first.

Went today with a disabled child for Sunday lunch young lad at the bar took my order very friendly. Asked did I want extra pigs in blanket I said yes. I not been there before. I would not get extra again as the meal was so big my son can eat anything said god it's to much. That's a message in a half. Food beautiful I think it was the manager that brought our meal so caring and understanding with my grandauther. Would recommend this place , brilliant service

I went here today and it was £20.98 for a "MEGA" mixed grill and a large coke The mixed grill is a standard size at best. Quite expensive for what you get on the plate unfortunately. Also the pint of coke wasn't even full to the top. Seems to be the standard though reading through some of these other reviews on here. Service was good though

Don't know if it was a bad day today but my Sunday lunch was a disgrace . Not only was most of it from frozen but it was cold on arrival. After being a company of 17 strong party not impressed. Plates were still piled on our tables and glasses at 4 30 from 12.00 lunch time. Not good

Had a great experience at the Prince today. Eating out with three generations isn't always easy as we all prefer different cuisines but Granda suggested the Prince so we went along. Food was lovely - Granda had fish and chips, Mam had hunter's chicken and I had a chicken combo. The fish and chips and hunter's chicken could have done with some more chips as they weren't given a lot but they both said their food tasted good. My chicken combo tasted lovely and the meal was good overall. The pub was clean and there were a number of families eating out while we were there. Couldn't fault the service. The staff were friendly, helpful and willing to chat and we didn't wait an age for our dishes which has been the case at other venues.

Always receive good service. Food is delicious.

Been years since I've been in but had a lovely meal. Alison was really accommodating when I booked last minute over the busy Christmas period. The overall atmosphere was fantastic. The service was fast and the manager looked after us well, making sure we were happy with the table placing as another group had ran over. Would definitely recommend

Good food can get busy at times

Flamin' BBQ meat platter was delicious, all the elements were cooked to perfection but the stand out by far was the 7 hour slow cooked short rib, worth coming here just for that, absolutely outstanding, compliments the chef and the team !

I’ve changed my review from 5 stars of 3 years because I feel the place is not the same anymore. Twice in the last week and there’s been problems. Not taken order correctly and spending just over £10 for 3 cokes and you won’t fill the glass and I think it’s disgusting really and saying it’s because you’ve not got ice is a joke surely, I asked for a large glass of coke and not coke being watered down with half a glass of ice. Feel ripped off and when We Ordered mash for my son we got jacket potato, there was customers shouting at the bar because of there service when me and my children were trying to eat so we just didn’t bother to say anything as the staff were clearly struggling as it was. We eat out all the time and used to love the atmosphere food and service but staff have changed and it feels like there just doing a job and not thinking about the customer or service. I won’t try a 3rd time this month because it’s been twice now and spending over £50 each time to leave unhappy isn’t what I plan when I go out

I come regularly with my little doggy for a couple of pints. The staff are lovely . Alison the new manager is a great and has really turned this place around the food is excellent and I can only say that the place is going from strength to strength.

Thoroughly enjoyed our meal at Prince of Wales. Staff were friendly and polite. Will definitely return

The management of this pub is struggling. First all the good staff exited for the Mill tavern, now they have cancelled the quiz night which has been drawing in customers for 20 years-Has it got a death wish??

Been a few times over the past couple months for lunch and drinks. The quality of the food has deteriorated. First visit was great, 2nd time not so good, 3rd time they had no side salad, so we got the vegetable flatbread which had a lot less veg mix than previously & not all ingredients stated on menu, Time after this the dressed side salad was just leaf with no dressing, (no cucumber, grilled red onion,courgette,pepper,Pico de gallo) our last visit just yesterday, the Coors was clearly watered down, the Nachos were the worst I've ever tasted, no melted cheese, the nacho cheese sauce looked to be curdled, no Pico de Gallo either. The soft tacos Omg came as 2 tacos just with a pinch of leaf!!!!!!!! No spicy mayo, no Pico de Gallo,no spring onion, JUST LEAF. We were actualy shocked, worst place any of us have ever eaten and we will not be back. Defo would not recommend, nor for vegetarians as lot of contamination.

Do I Have to buy something to watch the football at the pub?

Worst quality food Ive had in a long time, this pub used to do lovely steaks. The 32oz challenge rump used to be delicious. They only do a 24oz fondu steak now, which isnt a steak, its pieces of steak they say is cut to let you dip it, so you cant be sure if it was a steak to begin with and they clearly dont think you can use a steak knife! (Its not cut in front of you) The medium ribeye steak I ordered was 30% uncooked fat and gristle and 70% something else, the quality of the meat was terrible, it had been severely beaten with a tenderiser and had a lot of cuts in it where someone must have been checking the meat colour as it was cooking. Seems like the person cooking doesnt know how to cook steaks and/or the quality of the steak is so poor it doesnt cook like steak should. The hot plate was covered in sloppy wet onion pieces, which tainted the flavourless "ribeye" steak and it ended up tasting like hotdog. The peppercorn sauce was thin, curdled, lumpy and tasted acrid; half the peas were brown and the 8 or 9 chips I got tasted like the oil they were cooked in was very very old, even with vinegar on them. The pub was slightly busy, a football match was on tv, it was so loud you couldnt hear each other speak. Service was very basic, we were not asked if the food was ok or if we wanted dessert, I dont think anyone their cared either way. Honestly, youd be better off going to wetherspoons, as bad as they are, their food is better than here and cost less! Very dissapointed, having enjoyed food here in the past, its gone down hill severely. This time the food was really disgusting, the quality of the steak is the worst ive ever experienced, it was cooked badly and not as requested, the peas were old and tasted bad, the grilled tomato and other items on the rest of the order were so dry and over cooked, they looked and tasted as if they had been under a heat lamp for 5 hours. The menu change is poor, the offerings are limited and it has clearly has been done to increase profit, the 24oz fondu used to be 32oz not long ago! A medium 9oz ribeye with peppercorn sauce and a large diet coke was almost £20, not a lot if it had been edible. As I sit here having stomach cramps, I can honestly say we will never eat here again and would not recommend the Prince of Wales to anyone.

Allow the costumes to tip the staff, when it's so understaffed, that the bar is 4 deep... lovely food and service, but not allowed to show our appreciation by tipping.. absolutely ridiculous as a company to allow this.. If I want to say, thank you to the staff, who are you as a firm,to say I'm not allowed.. Answer me that
