Pretty basic hotel, good location. No AC and no fan in room

It's a great hotel right on the motorway network ready for our onward journey. It was a very spacious room and a comfortable bed with lovely pillows. We woke really refreshed after great night's sleep before a freshly cooked breakfast.

The rooms are a bit shabby and the thermostats didn't work. The WiFi didn't work, the shower dripped all night. Other than that it was fine

Friendly and warm welcome from Steve at reception who was single-handedly running reception and maintenance at the time of check-in. Spotless, clean room, apparently cleaned by Netty, according to the in-room card. My room was quiet, although I did overhear other guests in front of me at check-out complaining about noise in the night - so it seems there was sadly one inconsiderate guest in the hotel that night - but it was also clear that the affected guests didn't report it to reception in the night, who also do an hourly floor walk. As an older Premier Inn you do have creaky stairs and no lift - so try to avoid rooms near the staircase and be aware if you have mobility issues (however, accessible rooms are on ground floor). The rooms are standard Premier Inn fare: once you seen one, you've seen them all! They seem to have the late 2000s set up with a wooden unit housing the clothes rail and the top shelf that used to accomodate the old 14" CRT TVs, middle shelf for the kettle, bottom for the bin (newer and refurbished Premier Inns have a different style clothes hanging area). Modern flatscreen TV now installed; could do with a retune. Beefeater adjacent, directly accessed through exclusive entrance on the staircase between ground and 1st floor. This is where breakfast is served. The Beefeater prefers it if guests reserve a table for breakfast. I didn't, but as I went down at 7:30am on a Sunday, it wasn't an issue. Had I gone down an hour later, apparently they would have been full. Worth knowing about. Despite this, Breakfast staff very friendly. Sainsbury's Local is on the other side of the car park, while Tesco Express is opposite side of road to Premier Inn at the Esso. A couple of takeaways are located the other side of Sainsburys Local, (out of sight, smell and earshot of the hotel) useful for essential supplies and snacks. Both M18 (J1) and M1 (J33) easily accessible within minutes of the hotel. The wi-fi didn't work, that's not the fault of staff here, rather Virgin Media, who, will probably take ages to do something about it. Impact was limited, as I had good 4G/5G coverage and lots of mobile data - tends to be better than the courtesy free wi-fi anyway - and that's across all Premier Inns. However, If wi-fi is important to you, you may wish to check before travelling.

Think we went at the wrong time. We turned up for a quick pint. Which was brilliant, but there were more kids than adults. Climbing everywhere. Lots of chatter, but the most annoying thing was that the adults who sat away from their kids were very loud.
