Prego Bar & Eatery in Sunderland

I was at a private party where the staff were letting anyone in, the organiser had to tell them to put something up to stop people entering the area. The food was late, 1 pool table was broken, and the two electronic dart boards went off halfway through the party. We were told that there was no manager on duty when we spoke to the staff about these issues. Felt sorry for the staff they were getting lots of complaints they seemed very young and didn't really know how to cope.

A favourite of mine, back than. Definitely going down hill. No service, had to go to the bar to order food and drinks. 3 lads working at the bar talking about management and how bad it’s gotten all for everyone to hear. One was sat down with a table of gentleman having drinks. Quite disgusting to hear actually not a good look on staff. Annoying sound of one of the broken speakers constantly humming until the supervisor/chef came out to tell one of them to put music on. Im a big fan of Tupac, but not what you want to be playing in your restaurant whilst customers are trying to eat. Offensive music with explicit language. There could have been children present. Calamari starter: not fresh, tasted like it’s either been sitting or recooked from a previous day after being defrosted. Crispy chicken breast starter: barely any chicken mostly batter and dry. Pasta Scoglio Main: once a favourite had lost its Umphh. Mediocre at best. Prawns are different. Did not taste fresh. Beer battered cod Main: was essentially all batter. Chips were drowned in grease. Pint of madri tasted like soap. Shocking. Considering I would big this place up all the time and was a favourite of mine. Will not be returning.

Thank you so much to the staff at Prego. There was a mix up with our booking but the staff went above and beyond to resolve our issue. The staff were personable and created a wonderful atmosphere for a 30th Birthday surprise. I'm absolutely over the moon with he quality of drinks, staff and food. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this going forward to other people and can't wait to come back. Thanks so much to everyone that served us today, you are a credit to Prego!

Think it’s fair to say, this place is going under. Staff were so poor this weekend and the place looked like a jumble sale. Could have been a good place - we wish you all the best of luck.

I've always loved Pregos Sunday lunch but had to leave the dogs at home. As they recently allowed dogs into certain areas, we took the opportunity to take them with us. Firstly I have to say previous experience of food and service in the restaurant was faultless. However, not so in the bar. We had booked a booth but clearly that had been ignored as we were told 'sit anywhere in the bar with the dogs' We were served our plates with meat, yorky and veg and sat waiting for over 10 minutes for veg by which time the gravy was congealing on the plate. One of the party ordered extra meat and this took nearly 20 minutes to be served. There was no cutlery or napkins on our table so we had to search the other tables. We asked for condiments, mustard, mint and black pepper. After four requests and watching our waitress continue to serve other tables, a waiter came with mint and mustard and supervised their use before taking them away. The black pepper finally arrived on the final few forkfuls of food. The food was still delicious thanks to the talented chef and the bar service was efficient. However; the service for the food was shocking and 8f 8d cooked ot to that standard I would have been fuming thar customers were eating it cold . If they don't have enough staff, they should provide a table with the basics- cutlery, napkins and condiments- so diners can help themselves. Doggo enjoyed their dinner although be careful, it was red hot but an absolutely massive portion that beat the dog. It was chicken (no choice) so if your dog is sensitive like mine to poultry you might want to avoid it. Overall not an experience I'd like to repeat . We watched the same happen to two other tables who were both 2/3 through their meal before the veg arrived. Come on Prego. You're better than this.

Was down visiting family and we went in for a meal, to be 💯% i found it average certainly nothing to rave about.

Booked a table for 4 plus a baby for 1pm and didn’t leave until 4pm.. We had to ask for our order to be taken several times to which the woman said she’ll grab a pen then went to serve other tables and seat new customers, drinks took almost an hour to arrive, asked for bill several times. One of the staff also sighed and sounded fuming to be taking our order. We ordered 2x potato skins and only one came out, when the second portion arrived they had no seasoning and had just been cooked and quickly thrown on a plate. My baby was starting to cry from being there for so long so we just wanted to leave ASAP but no one seemed to be interested in letting us pay (for mid food and bad service). Definitely won’t be coming back which is sad as the restaurant itself was lovely.

Food is just ok, if your in a larger group they will mess it up, overall though an ok meal

Sunday dinner this evening wasn't as great as previous experiences. Over 15 mins from being sat to being asked for drinks order. Three teas came with three different shaped cups and one pot. Asked for lamb dinner, got beef, due to exceptionally long wait times I just ate it I was too hungry, at best the meals were lukewarm, the plates cold. So disappointed that mum left most of her plate. Just as well the soup and garlic mushroom on toast for starters were nice Will try to add new photos from tonight.

Food has come before our drinks we have waited 15 minutes

Absolutely brilliant night had for my son's 30th birthday meal . Staff absolutely spot on really friendly and couldn't be more helpful. Prices were unbeatable thanks all

My girlfriend went here last night for a meal with her friends and was disgusted by the service. They waited 35 minutes before anyone came to take their food and drinks order. They were then served their starters shortly after and again asked for their drinks which had still not been brought over. They were then served their mains and still no drinks. They asked again and in the end waited 1 hour and 20 mins before they were served any drinks and had to give their drinks order 3 times. The staff were not very polite and were equally not very apologetic. There were plenty of staff working but none seemed to be doing a lot. The manager said that they would get their drinks for free. They asked for the bill which was then brought to them and still had the drinks charge on which they then had to request to be taken off. They then waited another 15 minutes before getting up and going over to someone to pay as nobody came to allow them to pay the bill. Overall worst service they have ever experienced and will definitely not be returning. 1 hour 20 minutes before being served a drink is unforgivable!

We came in today to eat some pizza and nobody even came to take our order. We waited over 20 minutes, and watched the "waiters" serving the tables around us but they would even turn their head and lok our way... Needless to say that we left without eating.

came here for birthday didn’t have one problem food was lush service was great aswel as atmosphere when sing happy birthday staff came out too and join in with sombrero hats and rattles never felt so welcome

Lovely pub type food but with a twist, the sauces are always delicious. Have a great range of semi resident singers on a Saturday night and they are all really professional All the bar staff are really friendly

No waitress service had to go to bar to order food, starter came out as I sat down from ordering literally 1min. Daughters starter and main came at the same time. Food wasn't very good overall. Won't be going back. One good point young lady serving at the bar was very pleasant and helpful.

Hmmm, food was very average. The staff were lovely and helpful, but our food turned up as 3 separate meals at different times. They weren't miles apart but the plates were cold, so everything lost its freshness quickly. Don't get me wrong, it's not awful, but it is not great. It's very family friendly with free parking and that's a bonus in Seaburn.

Lovely pub on the seafront pop in here all the time we sit outside not a big fan of there food , drinks are expensive but they do do a happy hour

The first time me and my family had eating here since it changed ands and was impressed.

A group of 36 people sat down at 18:30 on a busy Friday night, the Prego management where given a full list of starters and main meals 3 days before and the head waiter came around and confirmed the orders from a spreadsheet and that’s when the problems started. The majority of people got their starters , but some don’t get theirs until until the main meals started coming out at 19:15 . The main meals came out in dribs and drabs with a lot of people complaining of poor service. At 21:00 some people who had not received their main meals got up and left, including a family with children who had not received their meals. The meals were indifferent with a lot of poor quality main dishes. The person who arranged the meal for a 40th birthday party spent a considerable amount of time dishing out the meals helping the staff who were understaffed for the number of people who were in the restaurant. Poor Management, Poor Food and Poor overwhelmed kitchen and waiting staff. I think the majority of people who attended last night from the party would never go back to Prego Sunderland again.

The worst Italian I’ve ever been to. Chefs were slowest on earth n the Calazon pizza was absent of any meat - the worst I’ve ever had. Don’t use this restaurant full stop.

Lovely place, staff, atmosphere,food and wine as well. The whole experience didn’t cost much either, i would definitely come back again although we travelled for like 6 hours to Sunderland, definitely will visit again 😊

Booked a meal for 4 people to celebrate my birthday, booking was done online and it was quite easy to do, The staff was very courteous and professional even if some of the staff looked very young, but maybe that's just me getting older lol, anyway once we were shown to our table a short time passed and the staff came to take our order for drinks which were chosen from a large selection at the bar, after our initial drinks arrived staff came to take our food orders, We chose a starter each and a main meal, the food didn't take long to arrive and it was delicious, just see the photos!! It was about 10 min between courses so very quick service, overall a very nice delicious meal with 4 very happy people with 4 full tummies lol, prices are on par with other Italian restaurants with 4 starters 4 main meals and 4 drinks (various alcoholic) being just under £100... would definitely call again and certainly recommend if you want a really good meal and a few drinks,

Paid for bottomless and only served 2 drinks. Food was pizza which was below standard and poor customer service with rude staff. Ruined a birthday unfortunately and then overcharged on what we managed to get.

The service for drinks was slow for a bottomless brunch had to wait a while maybe so we didn't have as many we paid £35 per head for a pasta bowl or pizza or burger and drinks I've been to a few bottomless brunches and we were never out of a drink and didn't have to wait till the last person finished there drink, they probably wouldn't have had as many as they were enjoying the drink but drank it down so we could get a drink otherwise we were sat without a drink for ages, but staff were lovely ots just a shame, will Return for food but never for a bottomless brunch

Booked a table for 13 last night, food was amazing and it all came out the same time, everyone's food was lovely, one of the best gluten free pizzas I've had. The hospitality from the staff at prego is 5 star they really go the extra mile to make you feel welcome.

Ordered the garlic chicken strips. Came as a breast cut up into strips, not separate strips as I expected. Half of the breast was batter, and the chicken was stodgy and rubbery, plus the aeoli sauce was rank. Expected more but was disappointed

The food was really tasty. Plenty of vegetarian options.

Eventually got round to visiting after wanting to go for a while … atmosphere, service etc great .. had a game of shuffle board after meal .. the place is bigger and nicer that I expected.. only down side was that some of the dishes were far to salty … especially the salmon pasta.

It's a pretty nice place to chill...good food and good ambience they even have live music on a Saturday. close to the beach.

Been around 6 times now, and every time the food has been lovely. The staff are very attentive too, and even when I've only visited for a "quick" drink the staff are so welcoming. Highly recommended.

Great place to meet up. Had something to eat there and the food was very nice,well recommended the black pudding and pepper corn sauce 😋 Tried the fajitas last night, we had chicken and steak both highly recommended. Could just do with a mains plate to make them up and a little more accompaments for the amount of dish and wraps.

I was met with great service from the jump , Megan especially , made my time here great , wouldn’t normally write a review but felt compelled . She made my cocktails beautifully and kept my spirits high , very friendly and so so helpful . Would definitely recommend and will definitely be coming back ! Nice Italian and bar food. Service is fabulous. Good value. I found the music quote Loud and annoying, it may be to others liking. Free parking and good location.

Our Favourite family night out eatery. Great variety and quality of food, great selection of drinks. The while family enjoy playing the virtual darts and shuffle board, the boys play pool, added bonus of the on site arcades means everyone's happy.

We visited this weekend and the food, service and atmosphere was awesome. The food is delicious and the waiters are very attentive and the kids even get a 50 point voucher for the arcades next door. Five stars on everything (except for the penny pinching). I rated 3 stars ⭐⭐⭐ because after we spent over £122 quid, left £10 tip I realised I was charged 50p for a splash of garlic oil. I asked for extra garlic on my pizza (you know, actual, real garlic) but they splashed garlic oil on it and charged me 50p. Come one! It's not the cost here, it's the principle. Hence three stars overall.

We've been here a few times now. We've actually come here for our anniversary twice now as it's quiet,good service and the food is lovely. The prices are reasonable,the choices are good,the staff are friendly and the added singing from who I presume is the manager is a delight lol..

First visit. Was quiet when we arrived, clean inside, love the decor. We hadn't booked but we were shown to a seat quickly. Ordered drinks a fanta, Pepsi, blackcurrant cordial. Menu had a good choice, some things expensive others OK. I opted for a burger as it came with chips and wouldn't need to order and pay for an extra side. I got a kids Margarita pizza which just came as it was and a kids burger which came with chips and a pot of beans. Service was quick, the kids were given breadsticks before but I think they could have done without them as they filled up on them before their main came. Portion sizes were OK especially the kids. Maybe offer smaller portions a couple £ cheaper as a lot of food waste for kids. The food was nice. I couldn't eat all mine was stuffed and the pizza was boxed a few slices to take home. We didn't know it could go home and maybe we would have kept half to box rather than my daughter not wanting to waste any and try eat it all. The kids meals came with ice-cream. A little pot with a scoop with a choice of sauce. My kids obviously had room for that and said it was nice. The kids drinks weren't included in the price which so think that could be a thing to look at. £6 for a kids meal was OK maybe a glass of dilute juice to be included as part of price. Altogether it was just over £33 and I think it was OK for the price. Food quality was good and the waiter who served us (mick) was efficient, friendly, double level checked our order, answered any questions. He made a difference to our visit. A good first visit and would go again.

Visited Saturday afternoon. Service good staff were busy. Order 3 pizzas and a few sides to share. Pizza base was crispy on the outside and soft. I was not a big fan of the cheese as it was stringy and chewy. Onion rings were ok a bit too oily. Overall it was ok atmosphere is nice. Possible we will be back for the nice selection of cocktails.

At Prego, you'll find decent Italian grub served with good service in a pleasant venue. While the food is okay, and there's not much more to say, it's a reliable spot for a satisfying Italian meal.

Visited on Good Friday for lunch. Fish and chips were lovely.

A stop on the usual seaburn run, was the first time I went for food. Three pizzas, all insanely greasy, even the vegetarian one. Three of the four people who ate it were queasy for the rest of the night, wor lass actually whiteyed from it. I’d go again for drinks and darts/shuffleboard. I’d not touch the food. Ever.

Great food and service tonight. Went in to avoid the rain and for a quick bite to eat. Got chicken kiev pizza, onion rings and chips to share between us, lovely meal.

We went into the restaurant part for food & it’s nice either in there or out in the bar area. We had good service. The food came very quick which meant one thing, microwave 🙈 I had the tiger prawn risotto which was tasty but over done in the microwave 👎

We went for a mod week catch up. Food was good. Everyone got something completely different. Portions were massive. I got fajitas whi h were tasty and there was plenty there, 6 mini wraps, tasty chicken with peppers and onions in a mild spicy sauce. Cane with sour cream, guacamole, salsa, cheese and jalapeños. There was also a pizza which was massive, stone baked, a burger which was HUGE and a ceased salad which was also large for a portion of salad with plenty of chicken. The restaurant was closed as it was really quiet so everyone was in the bar area, no table service, which isn't a problem, order at the bar when you are ready. It was really quiet so only waited about 20mins or so for food, all piping hot when it arrived. There was a happy 'hour' offer but we didn't use it. Would definitely go back but it wasn't anything overly special.

Wish I could put less than a star, the experience was horrible, we waited almost an hour for the starters, the restaurant was almost empty, service very slow I think the manager as not clue in what he's doing, after we asked him for the food he treated us in a very rude way, he made feel us uncomfortable when we only asked for our food, the mains taste like washing up liquid we both had pastas which were overcooked and tastes horrible, I won't definitely recommend, such a shame because the restaurant itself is very nice, really bad management

We walked in at 12 noon on a Sunday and got a table for five in the bar area. The Sunday roasts were very nice indeed - we'd highly recommend them! Staff were very nice, the music was upbeat, and the atmosphere was relaxed and pleasant.

Staff were OK food mediocre service was a bit slow.

Xmas work night out ..31/2 hrs for starter & main ..food didn't arrive together ..some food was cold ,pasta burnt & steak not cooked to order Spoilt what would have been a good night. Wouldn't recommend 😒

We had our Christmas party here. The games room is he perfect party venue and the staff were incredibly welcoming. Thank you for a wonderful evening

The Sunday dinner was lovely, one of the best I've had. Was great value too as was offset of a 2 course deal. Went not long after midweek and food was good although the pizza was a bit hard and well done on the bottom. Staff were lovely and friendly on both occasions.

I think the food is spot on, but the bar could do with being the same quality and experience. Music was annoying. Very chilly and drafty. Everything else was fine!

Visited on Saturday afternoon staff very polite service very quick, food was lovely, however the only negatives is the restaurant w very cold not sure if the chef had the back door open, also they should invest in Air Fresheners and regularly sprayed with disenfectant in the Ladies Toilets, as there was a dreadful smell on entering, maybe some nice antibacterial soaps.would definitely return if these issues were looked at Thank you.

Absolutely amazing Sunday lunch everyone of us who had lunch agrees its the best tasting we've had out of all the Sunday lunches we've had eating out staff were really welcoming too.

Service is top rank. Efficient and you're not waiting around for your food to come out. Always asking if you're wanting a top up on your drinks. Very good. Only downfall was the starter. I was in a party of 5 and they all had the potato skins which were extremely well done. To the point, it was like a crisp without any potato in it. Some people make prefer that, but I feel they were a bit overcooked.

The family had lunch and played pool in a nice and friendly atmosphere .We"d Go again.

Great Sunday lunch. I can definitely recommend it.

Staff were great, very pleasant and very friendly. Had black pudding starter and that was lovely, also ordered the crispy chicken starter but that wasn't great it was like a large chicken nugget cut into pieces and fairly dry... for mains we had meat ball spaghetti and that wasn't great either meatballs we're nice but spaghetti was a lot like tinned spaghetti. Totally disappointed but this is my opinion only.
