Praza Edgbaston in Birmingham

Really did not enjoy my experience at this restaurant, had really high hopes, as I always enjoyed my visits to Pushkar. The food in my opinion was average at best and mains were not to my liking at all. I ordered something, which was a little off menu which the staff said they could do, however when it came, it definitely was not the dish I ordered and when I raised it with my waiter, I was completely dismissed. Unfortunately due to this experience, would never visit here again.

The food was tasty, and service started off well, but a major issue with the bill has put us off from returning or recommending this place. We paid a deposit, and though two people didn’t attend, we were still charged £10 per head, which we accepted. However, they refused to remove a £49 service charge, insisting it wasn’t optional. We were told this should have been discussed when paying the deposit, but how could we know without receiving service yet? Both the floor manager and another manager refused to remove the charge, claiming it was mentioned in the email confirmation, though it didn’t specify if it was mandatory. They also said since we had a private room, we would have to pay £99 for it if we didn’t pay the service charge, even though this wasn’t mentioned during booking. On top of that, they hinted we should pay £35 per person for the two adults who didn’t show up but said they were being generous by not charging us for that. We paid £35 per person for a set menu, which included a small starter and dessert. The mains were served family-style with no set portions per person—11 adults shared just 2 bowls of rice. They claimed it was refillable, but clearly, they were cutting costs. Even the naan was randomly served, some of it dry and in small pieces. Overall, there was poor communication, and it felt like they were just trying to squeeze extra money out of us. Clear pricing should be provided upfront. After all the uproar they removed the service charge then went on to say… They were attentive to our needs and constantly served and checked in on us, well is that not what you get anyway from a non buffet style restaurant? Please see attached pic stating it’s a free venue hire, no where mentions £99 room hire and nor did they mention on the phone when booking, stop making up rules as you go along

Was there for a birthday party. Served fixed price menu. Starters (salmon, chicken and lamb kebab) were hot and flavoursome. Mains (chicken, lamb, Daal, paneer and fish curries) were also really tasty and the meat dishes very tender. Naan breads were hot and crispy lovely compliment to the mains. For dessert it was ice cream and chocolate brownie. The ice cream was still a little frozen and not overly vanilla flavoured. Service was a little chaotic, friendly but chaotic. Everything did come out eventually, but could have been co ordinated a little better. Plaza Service Team were helpful and friendly throughout. Will come back to eat again as the food was delicious.

Great indian restaurant on Hagley Road, lovely decor, and facilities (a good parking space at the back). Staff was super kind and friendly, attentive, and caring. We went in for a birthday celebration with a birthday cake. Food was delicious, served with an attention to detail and quick. Good portion size and I was pleased with the generous pani offered with my pani puris (always end up asking for more pani at other restaurants). Ordered the shared mix kebabs platter, which was tasty with good pieces of fish, lamb and chicken. We highly recommend it, a more quiet and relaxed place to eat in good company.

It is always a pleasant experience eat at Praza. We had dinner today.The atmosphere was warm and inviting, making it a comfortable spot for a meal. The menu offered a wide variety of traditional Indian dishes, and I appreciated the authenticity of the flavors. I tried the Paneer Makhni and garlic naan, both of which were well-prepared and delicious. The service was attentive, and our server was knowledgeable about the menu, offering helpful suggestions. The food use to be absolutely delicious the quality the taste of food has dropped down completely we got Too much extra added spice Raw parantha Attitude from the manager Staff shouting from the kitchen Staff mouth stuffed with food while serving food I guess they need some PR skills and way of respecting customers and not taking them for granted

I went for dinner here on 17/07/24, our servers attention to detail was astounding! He was polite, accomodating and attentive. Food was presented beautifully, served carefully, as per our request when we wanted ar the right temperature, restaurant music was loud enough to be heard and quiet enough to be refined.

Ordered takeaway disappointed really butter chicken too spicy , no garnish on dishes for example slices of.onion , cucumber ,.tasty food however for the price of the dishes nothing special unfortunately

Beautiful restaurant, overpriced afternoon tea as usually cheaper for two in other places, whereby this was around £30 for one👀 but service is outstanding and non halal!!! Will be going again for dinner next time!

We have been trying to come here for afternoon tea for the past couple of weeks. But it was always full. So on Sunday, when we had finished shopping in Selfridges and in need of peaceful refreshment, we was delighted that a space was available for 2:30. As we arrived, there were plenty of parking spaces in a big open car park. Rare for Edgbaston. We were shown to our table straight away. We ordered the afternoon tea for two. I went with the sparkling wine, and my partner opted for the chai tea. Our waiter then brought out an eye-catching display of fancy sandwiches, savoury treats, and very nice-looking cakes. Each mouthful was a treat on the tongue. The well combined flavours were subtle and distinguishable. It's not overpowering, which i find too common in asian cuisine. But the chefs here got the balance spot on. There is only a chicken sandwich on this menu. The rest is vegetarian. The atmosphere is peaceful and relaxing. The decor is very dark. I personally like it, but I know others that wouldn't. Especially for an afternoon tea. The staff were really friendly, smartly dressed, and were attentive to our wants and needs. We are definitely going to be coming back to sample the rest of their menu during the week.

Authentic Indian food to experience

It was a random selection one evening. I ordered dinner from them. It came out really delicious and to the point. We liked it a lot. The very next day we ordered again because of its authenticity and flavourful food. This time we again ordered dinner and I called up the restaurant to tailor the spiciness and flavours. They customised the food as requested. This made my day and I will keep this as my first choice to order dinner. This is the best dinner I have had in Birmingham to date. I recommend to give it a try and they would never disappoint.

Appropriately attentive service. Decent quality food.... We had vegan options for which there was ample choice. Worked out at £30 each including a large glass of wine. Would definitely come again.

Everything that we ate tasted delicious and it was clear that it was cooked with care in the kitchen. There was no excess oil/grease in any of our food and the presentation was excellent. Everything tasted fresh. The front of house staff were very attentive and eager to look after our table. The overall experience was excellent. From the staters we chose Amritsari Pakora and the Praza kebab platter. Everything was full of flavour, the stand out for me was the avocado marinated chicken tikka. I'd not seen it before and was happy that it was included in the platter. It was delicately spiced, mellow in flavour and the chicken was succulent and juicy. For mains we chose the Panjabi Chicken Masala and Methi Chicken with a selection of naan and chilli naan. The methi chicken was tasty, worth trying but if you were to choose one out of the two, ask for the Panjabi chicken masala. It's an authentic home-cooked chicken curry and took me right back to my Mum's kitchen. I enjoyed this with a chilli naan, which I didn't know was a thing. It was light, crispy and carried the flavours of green chilli without the heat.

Praza is definitely the best Indian restaurant in Birmingham. The food is delicious, the menu is extensive and the staff friendly. There’s free parking on site.

Booked a group meal for 23 people. Starter - Gohl guppe a little tikki. Main 1 bowl each - 2 curries, naan, rice, yoghurt and salad to share between 6 people. Dessert - ice cream and a gulab jamun. Sounds lovely and it was lovely food. But for £35 a head plus £80+ service charge it was absolutely a waste of money. When I arrived no one around to greet me or show me to the table. Table was upstairs and we had to go downstairs everytime we wanted a drink as we didn't want a tab. That's fine but we waited over 10 minutes for our drink then they said we'll bring it upstairs. By then everyone had eaten their starters already. The portion size was a joke. Even when the main came out our curry went cold waiting for more naan. There was nothing in the service to justify the £80 service charge. When we asked why we were not told about this charge when we booked the table the staff just said it's there and you have to pay. I don't like leaving bad reviews as its hard for businesses atm anyway but this was a joke. For nearly £900 excluding drinks SUCH A WASTE OF MONEY. Such a disappointing experience.

This place was absolutely fantastic! The afternoon tea was gorgeous, food was divine and the atmosphere is luxurious, but cosy! And the staff were wonderful when my one year-old wanted to toddle about!

Food was nice however the service is TERRIBLE, which defeats the whole purpose of eating out! I went with family for the 2-4-1, did wait along time for my food, most annoyingly they charged me full price including a hidden discretionary service charge, which IS NOT DISCRETIONARY!!!!! I paid it to avoid disruption however the waiter confirmed he was unable to amend the bill and the service charge is enforced to every customer, how pathetic???? Won't be going here again!!!!

Horrible, Rude, Worst service, Dirty plates with left over old curry, dirty glasses, waiter spitting as he's talking, empty dead end restaurant, we were the only table. We now know why. Food poisoning occurred, reported to food standards. By far the worst experience is the waiters, the waiter is a South Indian and he is the only waiter, rude, shouts at you, back chats as he's walking away with attitude. Intimidates customers, laughs at you, thinks he's a comedian. General manager is also as terrible as the waiter. Literally intimidated my whole family, took pictures, swore at us when there's babies. Tried to charge us extra prices, went in for the 241 offer then withdraw it at the end, so rude, taking pictures of the women in particular as I started recording his rude horrible behaviour and the illegal South Indian got offended. Threatening the females in my family by saying they're going to slap them, threatening physical abusive behaviour as they think its ok to double the bill price at the end.

Great food and good portion size.

There were 6 of us staying nearby and popped in for a meal. The staff are lovely, very attentive and helpful. The food was delicious and portions very good. Not a huge menu which, in my experience, is unusual for Indian restaurants but still enough to choose from.

Absolute awesome experience, no flaws what so ever. Will definitely be coming back for an evening meal again. Will also be trying their afternoon tea, as if it is anything like the food I just had then it will be amazing. Jaz

I usually like the food but that day I asked them to make Shahi paneer. Looked like they made it in a rush as there was not much taste and was bland. Also I put my car reg in and don’t know if it didn’t process and got a parking ticket. Worked out to be a expensive takeaway.

Work meal. Starters. small amount of food. Mains lamb curry flavourful, dessert , shop bought ice cream. Place looks posh but food way better in typical desi restaurant in usual spot in ladypool Road. Not many spaces in car park

Nice building but food quality was quite average. Had a dinner tonight and lamb meat was not even fully cooked .most of the dishes ordered the taste was not there. Needs a lot of improvement to be honest to match the price they charge.

Lovely restaurant with no rush and free parking, food good however the seat I sat on was wrapped in black tape due to poor upholstery! The service charge made me never want to revisit and the annoying fruit flys flying around our food that I had to try keep catching! Would not recommend to friends or family unfortunately

This restaurant offers meerkat meals when you book a table. I book a table on Wednesday and check the meerkat offer and terms and conditions which said you would get 25% off your bill Sunday-Thursday. However when I went to pay the bills I was told I can't use it. How can this restaurant advertise a offer on meerkat but not honour it. The manager told me they do not except it in December. However there is nothing saying this on the meerkat offer which I feel is unfair as they should state this in the offer. If I knew this I would not have booked this restaurant. I will not return to this restaurant as the customer service was so bad. They even changed me £15 for a jug of blackcurrant squash which was a bit of blackcurrant and the rest water. When speaking to the person who served me I was told we charged £15 for all jug drinks. How can this restaurant change the same price for a jug of coke, fanta etc compare to a jug of blackcurrant squash. I feel this is very bad and unfair. It's like saying you can have a bottle of wine for the same price of coke. I feel I paid £15 for the most expensive water with a little bit of blackcurrant. Would not recommend this restaurant as from my experience I feel they care more about making money than there customer.

One of the nicer Indian restaurants in the area serving great tasting dishes in a welcoming settings. Slightly expensive than a normal Indian but well worth that little extra.

Came here for a works evening. Staff were very helpful, lovely place n decor. The pompadoms were lovely the dips were amazing. Then the starter came out, mmmm very nice indeed a little taste but perfect. Strangely enough a bowl of Iceland chips then arrived on the table. Once we had devoured them, we was so looking forward to main course. Oh dear what a let down. 4 dishes, no spice what so ever, bland wasn't the word. Chicken tikka masala was about the only one I could eat. Such a disappointment to be built up and then smacked in the face with a wet fish. #gutted

Great company and friendly staff great food

I booked a table for 12 of us. Arriving we found the Restaurant was quite full but our table was ready. It took several prompts to get an order for drinks after waiting for 20 mins. Same again for food order after 35 mins waiting. The food was good, but the main course amounts were a little small and expensive. However the service was quite poor and there didn't seem to be anyone in charge, I had to wait for my main course after they had brought everyone there's. So no I wouldn't go back.

I booked the upstairs for a private, birthday celebration. My communication with Sushil prior to the meal was very good and Sushil was prompt and informative on how the evening would transpire. Me and my guests thoroughly enjoyed the venue; it was classy, clean and spacious. The family commented how good and flavour-some the food was and the service by Sushil and his team was A1. They were attentive, considerate and were always on hand to assist us with anything. Overall a wonderful experience and the team made the whole event very memorable and I would have no hesitation in returning back to the restaurant. Thanks once again for making my birthday special.

We were invited to a dinner that was hosted upstairs. It had beautiful interior and spacious seating. The staff were lovely and always available for assistance. Bathrooms were clean. The gal gappe were delightful, so was the veg curries.

Lovely place, great atmosphere. A nice and lovely afternoon tea. The only dissatisfaction was the sandwiches. Not enough. And no option for coffee. Just tea.

Really excellent. The Masala tea is just at the exact right temperature and the food is delicious! Smart venue perfect for a birthday and as for Indian afternoon tea it beats the everyday one by miles! Everyone should consider it.

If you order full they will send only half portion. Dont order desserts its so awful . There is no sugar in indian desserts such a blank taste.

Oh dear! What can I say? Standards have really fallen. I actually came here a few times before Covid and it wasn't too bad. Came here today for a couple of afternoon teas and they were just vile. So so so greasy and the individual pieces reeked of oil that had been used again and again. Very disappointed. Would definitely not recommend and will not be returning in a hurry. The price was hilarious for what was served. There was an additional charge for service for £5 too!

Waiters we're wonderful, very attentive, polite & welcoming, can't fault them. The food however, doesn't justify the price. I wouldn't say it was fine dining, far from the best we've had. Most of it was either quite bland or just overloaded with chilli. All 5 of us also have really bad stomachs today 😑☹ Also, if paying the service charge by card the waiters don't receive it! I find that disgustingly greedy when you consider the already high prices, we paid ours separately in cash. All in all we wouldn't visit again, there's many better, authentic restaurants in Birmingham for half of this price tag.

Genuinely great. We've ordered takeaway from here many times and it's been one of the best in B'ham, but nothing compares to eating in. Great cocktails, great food, great service, you're missing a trick if you don't try this place!

Was not the best food in town Especially for what you pay for Bland food and expensive Plus you have to ask the staff at least three times for virtually everything However they was not evenbusy Plus they put on a service charge If I want to pay for this This is at my discretion not there's 5 x star for free car parking

Beautifully rich and tender lamb. Lovely sides. A nice change from the regular balti. Good value.

They can't even send free mint chutney with food they agreed to send over the phone to their regular customer with 2 meals deals ordered.

Very overpriced and portion of food was less. Curry taste like readymade food from supermarket and Naans were very thin flatbreads and raw. Would never recommend to anyone

2 stars for the really tasty and authentic starters. We waited with child for more than 45 mins to get seated. The group who came later than us was seated and served before us. We kept giving benefit of doubt as this was after lockdown and thought they may have staffing issues. The other group was 1 less in number so they had the table free for them, probably they are confused that we arrived before, had table booked for earlier etc etc. We soon realised they ha had enough tables to be seated and need not wait for the other group to be seated before us, could have done in order when so many families left!!! We soon realised that the other group was treated preferentially, they were given menus, offered drinks while waiting, we did not have the menu and the owner expected us to order! I regret not leaving at this point. VERY HUMILIATING EXPERIENCE! Not that we were in tatters or not well dressed! 🤔 We were looking forward to visit Pushkar /Praza for a while.... NEVER Again.

Wonderful venue, great food, lovely and friendly staff - thank you for everything. We loved every minute of Aaron's 30th Birthday. The venue was perfect for the occasion and we had so many lovely comments and feedback from our guests. A special thanks to Rai for all his help and advice leading up to party. We are extremely grateful to all of you for help in making it a day to remember and this venue will always be special to us.
