The food was awful! The fries were cooked in dirty oil and when I said about it the waitress was so rude and lied. As the food looked bland I asked for a pinch of lettuce and got charged 3.50. Do not eat here

Overpriced for bland food, Chips tasted of burnt oil, My husband is still being poorly 36 hours on from eating there. Will not be returning or recommending. Hopefully new owners will improve the standard..

Been a regular here for ages. Ordered here for 2nd time in couple of months & order 50 minutes later than said, two times running now. Not really the one, when you have young kids waiting to be fed. Cancelled order as staff were extremely rude & not even apologetic. Won’t order again!

Great menu, food was delivered efficiently and the quality and taste of the meal was delicious. Definitely recommend the half chicken and the chicken wings. Beware, the spicy means spicy! I love that.

First time we've been here but it was recommended and it did not disappoint. Food was cooked perfectly. We had the medium spiced boneless chicken fillet which had just the right level of spice for me. The portions are very generous. Will definitely be going back.

Amazing food. One of my favourites. Stuff nandos, this is proper authentic Portuguese peri peri chicken. I usually have peri peri, but if you can't stand the spice I recommend medium, so tasty and doesn't blow your tonsils off You must try

This is a lovely little family run restaurant. The decor is basic cafe/diner style, but the food is good, and the Portuguese influence is clear. We ate here as a family, and I had peri peri fries and a roast vegetable and hummus wrap. My wife had peri peri chicken, and my stepson's partner had a lemon and herb chicken salad. The food was excellent and the service friendly. For food and value this is a 5/5 establishment, it is only atmosphere that was a bit lacking.

We have patronised Portu Gallos since we visited the Algarve in 2013. They have an app and booking through it attracts a 10th meal free, value based on previous orders. If they have it on the menu try the Picadhino - those who like it spicy 🌶️ can go for ‘hot’ 🥵 Very tasty

The food is so nice here, but the staff (especially the boss) are so unwelcoming it puts me off ever going here again. For me, customer service and feeling welcome is just as important as the food Itself

Parked up my truck in the local area tonight after running out of time on a 15 hour shift. Obviously I was starving and found this place on google. The staff were really friendly, two female staff behind the counter super friendly and super helpful. The guy cooking on the grill I guess is the owner, real nice fella, friendly helpful and chatty. It’s one of those places where you feel they treat you as though you’re a regular customer even though it was my first time there. I had double cheeseburger and the piri piri fries which were nothing short of amazing!! I’d love to know what they put in their spice mix. The cheeseburger was great too and I watched the guy cook it so I know it was fresh. Looks like they operate as a restaurant also, shame I don’t live locally as it’s definitely a place I’d love to go and have a sit down meal at. If I’m in the area again I will definitely visit as I was made to feel welcome and valued and the food was great.

Small family run restaurant. I drove 30 miles to try their meat selection on charcoal barbecue, food was amazing, it was well worth the journey. Highly recommended

Very disappointed. Ordered for collection. Collected on time. A 2 minute walk home. Where to begin? The chips had barely been near a fryer so were merely blanched. The boneless chicken fillets were dry, chewy and cold. Couldn't eat either. Having had a similar experience a few months ago we thought we'd give them another chance. Unfortunately we won't be back!!!

Honestly don't bother... Yes the chicken was tasty, but that's where it ends. Corn on the cob was chewey, chicken was barely warm and the garlic bread was small, dry and burnt to a crisp. Overpriced, would not recommend.

we ordered our meals online. I wanted a change to my choice and we even rang to find out how to do it. Surely the girl in your shop should of taken a note of the alteration when the order came through. But she never just said we could do it online. We put a note at the bottom of the order explaining the changes i wanted. We sent it through. When the food arrived mine was completely wrong as you had sent me a burger with everything on it. Not what i ordered. It seems to me that you take our order and money but dont look at any changes people may have and you send what you want. In my eyes this is a vety poor way of working and i certainly will never be ordering from you again.

I don't usually write reviews, but after trying Portu Gallo's a number of times, I felt I had to. As per my review title, they very much hold the monopoly within the area (along with Lakeside Fish & Chips and Budgens), as anyone familiar with Wixams will know, there isn't very much around, and I believe Portu Gallo's grasped at this opportunity, ramping prices up wherever they could to bump their profits. I'm not against paying higher prices for food that warrants it, but I believe the product they're sell isn't worthy of the price tag. Over the past year or so, I have made multiple takeaway (for collection) orders. Almost every time I am presented with something that shocks me, if it's not the unprofessional manner of the team member on the phone, it's the lack of preparedness. On various occasions I have been told that they'll be over an hours wait for a collection order consisting of only half a Peri Peri Chicken, as they "haven't got any on at the moment" - usually this wouldn't bother me, but as Portu Gallo's main offering is chicken based meals, you'd expect that would have at least something on during primetime dinner hours on a Friday evening. I understand that meals are made fresh, but as any business owner will tell you, there has to be a level of readiness especially when your menu consists of only 4/5 main items. On other occasions, I have been told to hang up, and call back later as they're "very busy with other orders". Can you not take my order anyway, and let me know a rough time as too when it would be ready, like all other takeaway restaurants? Overall, over priced and unprofessional. When confronting the manager with any issues, get ready for the line "This isn't Nandos", but to be honest, you'll be left wishing it was.

I ordered a meal from Portu Gallo's yesterday evening as a surprise for my husbands birthday. What an amazing experience!! I ordered by phone with a lovely friendly member of staff .She helped me to make a good choice ,a chicken platter for 2 with fries,mixed salad and coleslaw. It was delivered by a very friendly guy,keeping social distancing . The food was tasty and warm and more than we could eat!! So we have plenty leftover to have today.. If you can't go out for a meal during this Lockdown,I would happily advise you to pick up the phone and order a great meal ,delivered to your door. When this Lockdown is over.we are heading straight to Portu Gallo's in Wixams!!Jean,Wixams Retirement Village,Wixams.

Food is good, no issues there. Staff women very rude and aggressive. Placing an order over the phone is a myth, lady has no idea and very poor customer service. When explaining the mistake made she became very abusive. Such a shame as food is great.

Our second visit, having previously visited for lunch. This time we took our adults sons both of whom have insatiable appetites and good taste. Thumbs up from all. The chicken wings were hot hot and succulent. The peri peri chicken meal is excellent value, the chicken wasn’t as hot at the wings, but half a chicken that hot would have been a challenge. The full rack of pork ribs was enormous, unless you are a Desperate Dan type, you might want to either have a half rack or swerve the sides. That said nothing to send back from our table, I took a Desperate Dan! Corn on the cob nicely charred, brilliant chips, good salad but the coleslaw is obviously not home made and was a bit sweet with a ‘thin dressing’, Next time I will choose a different side. Lovely staff, the owners are delightful. We love the Super Bock Stout. A great inexpensive cafe style dining experience. In the daytime or on a summer evening build in some time for a walk round the lake.

Ordered a takeaway for delivery. Online ordering was easy. Food arrived 30 mins later. Considering I only live in Wilstead which is less than 2 miles away, the food was not particularly hot. The chips were reheats, soggy, and lukewarm. We both had the belly pork slices. Flavour was ok but considering they were 'grilled' they were lukewarm and not at all crisp and the fat wasn't rendered and was slimy and, like the chips, soggy. Will I order from here again? No I definitely won't. For the price it's just not worth it. I'd rather go next door to the fish n chip shop. Also charged a processing fee. No idea what that was for. Hopefully not for paying by credit card because that was outlawed over a year ago.

Great food, friendly service and reasonably priced. Easy parking close nearby. Seems to be very popular for takeaway food as well. This isn’t a quiet, dimly lit, romantic establishment - it is in fact just like a typical family café/ restaurant place you’d find in Portugal and if you’re missing the food and ambience, here it is. Good servings, a lovely caipirinha and genuine Super Bock and Sagres bottled beer. Pastel de nata - yummy.

A diamond in the rough here. Really great place to enjoy Portuguese food. As you can see I had ribs which they were to die for. So much I had to take the rest home. Would definitely go back again.

Lovely grill pricy but worth it

The menu isn't over the top fancy but you can guarantee a freshly cooked meal with good size portions at a great price. The service was polite and the restaurant was clean and tidy. Will defiantly dine here again.

Lovely fresh food, cooked over coals. The cooking visable to customers. Best to book a table on the weekend as the restaurant is small. Also busy with take away order. I have eaten in the restaurant and had take away, very happy with both.

Fantastic Portuguese chicken. The food here is lovely, the staff are friendly, and the prices are cheap. We eat here regularly as a family and it’s always great. The chicken, the beer, the wine is all good and they always have a selection of delicious homemade Portuguese desserts. Definitely the best place to eat in Wixams.

Twenty pounds spent on a lunch, not even grilled, smallest piece of chicken ever served, only offered tomato sauce, no peri sauce offered, chicken was tiny, and very little meat on bone, other customers had left half of food, and the only other customer was a staff member having lunch in table behind us,.

I've eaten there several times since it opened and asides from the long wait times the food has been pretty poor each time. The steak roll was incredibly chewy. The chicken was incredibly dry. The rolls were like rocks and the fries were flaccid abominations.

A little gem of a place. Decided to go early Sunday evening. Shared chicken wings to start . They were tasty and succulent . My partner had the butterfly chicken medium with piri fries and I had the ribs. Both were very tasty. Only issue couldn’t eat it all, but brought leftover ribs back with me. Friendly family run restaurant , with smiles from all of them. I did have to point out a discrepancy on the bill though , she had forgotten to add on drinks and thanked us for our honesty. Will definitely be coming back

I love Portu Gallos and since they opened, their menu keeps expanding! I’ve tried most things on the menu and never been disappointed (particularly love the white chocolate mousse). They’ve catered for a birthday event for us at Wixams Village Hall last year and it was fantastic! Fresh chicken and rice, with a range of spices. Thank you for creating such a great restaurant in Wixams, we will continue to visit.

I have been coming here now since they opened in 2016. We are absolutely blessed to have such an amazing place just five minutes walk from our house. The food is amazing, the owners lovely, and the beer good and cold! There is so much choice on the menu, but I find myself having the same thing every time, the double boneless chicken fillet meal, because it’s so good! We literally come here every week without fail, sometimes twice. Can’t recommend it enough.

I discovered this gem by recommendation a few months ago. The chicken is succulent and well flavoured, the steak is tender and tasty. The desserts are delicious (the mousse is my favourite). The staff are so welcoming and friendly. I am looking forward to booking to eat out on the terrace overlooking the lake, as I usually get takeaways for convenience.

We try and eat here at least once a month.The service is always great, even when it’s really busy (it’s only a little place!). The food is amazing. We start with olives and garlic bread normally which is tasty. We usually go for one of the platters between two for our main, and you get loads of meat and the large sides are huge! The meat is cooked well and the peri peri sauce (hot one) is lovely! The chips and salad on the side go perfectly too, although you can get different sides if you wish. The egg custard tarts are simply the best, have them with some cinnamon on and buy extras to take Home to have with a cuppa! Love this place and will always come back!

My partner and I love Portu Gallo's,We visit all the time as it's just around the corner from our house. I couldn't say what I like the best as I love everything I try! The thing I like the most is you can happily eat here if looking for something healthy but it still feels like a treat, also always updating their menu with new food and drinks, the Sangria or iced Bailey's Latte are amazing! Very authentic welcoming feel:)
