Porto & Fi, Newhaven in Edinburgh, City of

Our cruise ship stopped in Edinburgh and we wanted to find a place off the ship for lunch. One of the bus drivers mentioned Porto & Fi and we walked over. We found the restaurant to be excellent! Food and service was way above our expectations and we only wish it was around the corner here in Huntington Beach. Service was excellent and watch out for the desert! Great lunch!!

Nos encantó el local y el ambiente. Pedimos risotto de abadejo (haddock) y linguine con salmón. Nos encantaron los dos platos. El vino nos pareció demasiado caro (11€ la copa de vinho verde), sobre todo cuando te sirven agua del grifo gratis.

My wife and I ate here one lunchtime during a recent visit to Leith. Reasonably busy but the service was still pretty quick and the food was really tasty. I opted to have a dessert and was really glad I did… the Rhubarb Crumble was simply fantastic. I later found out the rhubarb was home-grown which probably accounted for just how tasty it was!

Little bit of an attitude about seating. Was told a table was reserved at breakfast time! Was moved from very comfy seat to hard chairs. Personally I like a cushioned seat and really find hard chairs uncomfortable. Scone was very nice and coffee was good, prices a little high for English breakfast, for the area, but it's very nice decor. It's a cafe pretending to be an upscale restaurant, and I've never heard of making reservations for breakfast before!

We regularly visit Porto & Fi and absolutely love it. The food is all home made and so good. The staff are all very hard working and friendly. The selection of home baking inc tray bakes, cakes, scones and desserts. We love that everything is home made and tastes amazing, so many places buy in mass produced tasteless food and charge too much for it. Keep up the good work, see you soon!

Pot of breakfast tea & the best bacon roll I've ever had. Great friendly staff, and delicious tray bakes (honeymoon slice) my fav!!

We live nearby and we wanted to try the banoffe pie. £9 for 2 slices of pie to take away... it's too much, next time we'll bake one ourselves.

Great place to sit and take a tea. The expresso coffe is not so good as I spected, but the tea was amazing. The best carrot cake I ate in Scotland so far. Definitely I'll come back. I recommend.

Tuvimos nuestra primera comida de reunión familiar después del cierre de ayer, viajando desde Fife y East Lothian.He estado en Porto & Fi varias veces y, como siempre, la calidad de la comida era muy buena. Sin embargo, después de que nos sentamos, nos informaron que solo podíamos tener la mesa durante 90 minutos, ¡no es un límite que hubiéramos aceptado si nos hubieran dicho esto al reservar la mesa por teléfono!Es decepcionante que no nos digan por adelantado que nuestra mesa estaba limitada a este horario, ¡si el restaurante anticipó que no haríamos una reserva si se nos informa en el momento de la reserva! ?

Después de leer muchas críticas entusiastas, estaba emocionado de tomar un buen brunch.El café era de muy buena calidad y el personal era amable y profesional.Sin embargo, la comida era normal.De un restaurante con tan buenas críticas esperaba mucho más de su tostada de aguacate. Era increíblemente básico y carecía de condimentos y cualquier "llamarada". Con avidez agregué morcilla y salchichas a la comida y me decepcionaron amargamente los ingredientes de baja calidad. La morcilla estaba seca y desmenuzable y las salchichas usaban carne de baja calidad y sabían a salchichas de estante inferior que obtendrías de Lidl.En general, no es un mal brunch, ¡pero ni siquiera se acerca a las expectativas o al precio!

Great food and friendly staff in an excellent setting. Handy for transport from Edinburgh. When visiting Edinburgh we always make a point of visiting Porto & Fi at least once for the tasty food on the menu.

We have dined here on several occasions recently. Really good affordable food. Delightful staff and amazing puds. A place you want to return to.

A great second visit, thank you for making us so welcome, pre booked a table for lunch. Excellent really fresh food, it’s hot and well presented. There is a fantastic choice of daily desserts all delicious. Just a wonderful place to meet friends chat and relax in a great atmosphere. Thank you team for making my second visit just as great as the first.

Beautiful views. Lovely cozy little bistro. Wonderful food all freshly made. The cakes & pastries are delicious and lots of choice. The bonus is they serve wine /beer!

Cozy and a great view by the window. The French toast and coffee will warm you up after walking by the chilly harbor. Carmel shortbread is worth trying too. Friendly staff will make you feel right at home.

My wife and I had a relaxing, superb meal on a Saturday evening. We received the best service we’ve had in a long time from a lovely gentleman. The menu was just right, enough to please everyone. I opted for the burger and it didn’t disappoint. My wife had the chickpea curry and again she throughly enjoyed it. I can’t recommend Porto and Fi enough. We will be back when we are in the local area.

This is an excellent little restaurant near Newhaven Harbour, the menu is great and the food is always excellent. We booked for breakfast with friends,the menu has everything you could possibly want from traditional to a more U.S.A. style. I opted for pancakes with maple syrup, you get three large freshly cooked pancakes which were superb, they could do with some fresh blackberries to cut through the maple syrup. My friends had french toast with bacon and avocado on toast, both excellent. Despite being busy there is no hurry to get you put. All told well worth a visit

Great busy little place, lots of great menu choices, food all excellent made fresh and served hot. The service was friendly and fast. There is no rush and cannot wait to go back and order my pancakes before 12pm. Other cakes and desserts were also so good and lots to choose from. Thank you team it was a wonderful visit.

This restaurant came highly recommended by locals as well as sites like tripadvisor. Visited for a quick lunch, and though it was quite busy (all seniors) the waiting staff were idling around with seemingly nothing to do. Also it seemed that seating new patrons wasn’t on their mind either. Ordered coffee/hot chocolate and cakes. The espresso was watery and bland, similarly the hot chocolate was tasteless, saying it came with cream but somehow this was forgotten. The cakes were equally tasteless, but heavily breaded. It seems Porto and Fi is resting heavily on past laurels, but does nothing to earn a positive review. It pretends to be finery, but I can only imagine those who rate it positively have not experienced good service or good food before. Stuffy, pretentious and terrible.

Couldn’t recommend this restaurant enough. Staff are very welcoming and friendly, beautiful decor and food was delicious. The desserts were so good, the pies were the best I’d ever tasted. Will definitely be back.

Visited Porto & Fi at weekend for breakfast, had the scrambeled eggs on granary toast with smoked bacon which was outstanding. Very comfortable cafe/restaurant of which my friends & I will return to, very good food, Booking is advisable at the weekend.

Returned to the cafe after a good first with my family. However, we were rudely met at the door by a staff member that seemed to be in charge. She couldn’t have made us feel more unwelcome. The cafe was busy and she scorned us for not booking and basically told us to go away. Unfortunately we will permanently stay away.

Soy local en el área y he aparecido varias veces y tengo que decir que no tengo quejas. Buena comida y valor. . . Recomiendo encarecidamente la ensalada de pollo glaseado con miel. . . ñam!

Piccolo ristorante situato nella zona portuale di Edimburgo, fuori quindi dal centro città affollato (fin troppo) e turistico. In taxi 10-15 minuti dal centro (Hotel Balmoral). Atmosfera tranquilla, servizio semplice e davvero cordiale. Abbiamo cenato a base di pesce di ottima qualità cucinato in modo che i sapori si percepissero, senza i soliti appesantimenti di salse e altre cose tipiche della cucina scozzese. Selezione molto ampia di birre locali, anche artigianali, di ottima qualità. Abbiamo concluso con dolci e torte fatte in casa freschissime e molto buone, anche considerato che il Paese non brilla per dolci particolarmente raffinati. Conto finale onestissimo. A fine pasto abbiamo conosciuto il proprietario che è persona di grande cordialità che alla fine cu ha offerto un limoncello e un whiskey. Consigliatissimo a chiunque si trovi ad Edimburgo e desideri un luogo diverso dalle affollatissime (ad agosto) vie del centro e comunque autenticamente scozzese.

Als je lekker wilt ontbijten en verse producten waardeerd is dit de juiste tent om te bezoeken. Dit restaurant is zo populair onder de locals die in het weekend graag samen buitenshuis ontbijten. Fijn licht ingericht restaurant waar alles vers wordt gemaakt . Kom je voor 11 uur kun je nog een plekje krijgen anders zit het vol.

This is a local gem within walking distance from home. We have been going for years and every time we take friends and family they end up going by themselves every time they visit us.

The eggs benedict was ok, eggs were a little bit over done so not as runny as I'd have liked. Staff weren't smiley or friendly, it took a bit of time to be served and asked what we wanted to order. Happy to see them using paper straws with the drinks instead of plastic. Didn't stay for dessert as I didn't feel there was a warm atmosphere.

Went there for a hot chocolate and a coffee, and we ended up trying the tiramisu. Homemade and delicious, loved it! And the place itself is great, cozy and makes you feel at home. We’ll be back soon!

We came here for breakfast on the recommendation of our AirBnB host and it was not a disappointment! It was a Saturday morning and not too busy and we did not make a reservation, but were seated straightaway.

This is a deservedly busy little restaurant/cafe serving really good food & great homemade cakes. Make sure you book a table or be disappointed

After getting short, sharp shrift on enquiring for a table at Loch Fyne Seafood and Grill just now, it ended up being a blessing in disguise, as it allowed us to enjoy a meal at Porto & Fi instead.

Well worth the trip to newhaven, had lunch several times, always delicious and now that I've discovered the salted caramel meringue roulade (one portion adequate for two people) I simply cannot visit without having a bit! Highly recommend this venue.

Hadn't been here for a while, but stopped by for lunch and the food was as good as always. Lovely efficient service and nice ambience.

We came here on my Birthday as places were booked, and as we didn't know the area we asked about other places to try - Im glad the other places were booked, this place is so lovely. I had the smoked haddock kedgeree that was amazing and a wonderful big piece of banoffee pie. We had our 7 year old with us too, and the food was great for him - well made proper food! If we ever visit again we will definitely make a trip back here as its well worth it!

It is so easy to find as several local buses pass its doors. It is well laid out with lots of space between the tables. We had one wheel chair person in our group posing the management no problem. The staff were very pleasant and attentive. The menu is very attractive and all the dishes we had were very tasty. At certain times of the day it can be very noisy but that shows just how popular this restaurant is. They have an attractive looking all day breakfast on Sundays. BUT do not be in a hurry. This means you can have a long leisurely blether with your friends whilst waiting for the delicious food to appear.

Busy wee restaurant, the food was lovely, fish goujons and fish pie followed by a piece of lemon meringue pie to share...it was delicious. The staff were not very attentive and had to keep trying to attract their attention otherwise it was excellent. I will definitely recommend and will return

I've had a few meals at Porto and Fi and enjoyed them all. Good food in pleasant surroundings and I've always found the staff very nice. Today was a coffee and cake stop - the banoffee pie was a sweet treat although it was a tough choice because of the good selection. Must go back for another meal soon.

We popped in today for some Sunday brunch. My wife had tea and eggs Benedict. I had orange juice and eggs florentine. The staff were lovely and friendly and the food and drinks were awesome. Lovely atmosphere as well and the cakes looked ace.

We've been in Porto & Fi loads of times and it's a go-to café for us because the food is nice, the coffee's fine, and parking is easy. Today we dropped in for coffee and scones and the place was busy without being overrun. The woman took our order (I can identify her but obviously won't here) but barely said a word.

We tried Porto e Fi for the first time today. The interior is very nice, well laid out, not cramped - the only problem we had with it was the noise level. It was quite busy but the issue is with the wooden floor I think - everything echoes and we struggled to hear one another.

Visited for lunch with my young daughter. Seated without any issues & found the staff to be attentive, friendly & knowledgeable. Ordered yellow split pea soup & my daughter had the fish goujons & chips. The soup was delicious & the goujons were made with fresh fish & had a really crispy batter. Great value for money too. Really enjoyable experience & well worth a visit.

I have travelled through from the west coast to eat here three times and on each occasion the food has been excellent. The restaurant is cosy and stylish but is badly let down by the extremely unwelcoming, surly and generally very unpleasant older waitress with the messy blonde bun (you know who you are).

Luckily booked a table as very busy. Great atmosphere and great service. Fish goujons and chips for 2 (1 large, 1 small) and 1 Cullen skink risotto (small). Plenty for all but enough room for an apple & raspberry crumble and a tiramisu. Bottle of wine, bottle of ginger beer and 3 coffees later £63. Good value

Visited for a an early tea with my parents who were up on a visit. The cullen skink risotto was sublime, the Empire Biscuits large and lovely, and the service super fast and friendly. Go there for excellent food, lovely staff and a super view out over Newhaven Harbour and the Firth of Forth.

My daughter had wanted to try Porto & Fi for a while, so we popped in on the off-chance on a Sunday. Needless to say it was packed, but we were lucky enough to get a couple of seats. We spied fish goujons going to other tables, so decided to have a portion of those and the hot smoked salmon stack. The fish goujons were delicious and so fresh and came with tasty curly fries and yummy tartare sauce. The stack's flavours were well balanced with rocket, sweet beetroot and smoked salmon in horseradish cream. Despite the extremely tempting array of desserts including banoffi pie and apple and cinnamon crumble, we felt replete but will definitely be back to sample more of Porto & Fi's delights. Reservations are taken, so a good idea for busy times.

Excellent food , nice atmosphere . Love the home made quiches and cakes, good food and lovely atmosphere it’s one of our regular choices for a quick lunch . Often go there with family as well.

What a fantastic find. A wonderful bistro with excellent staff. Booked last minute and so glad we did, from the minute we walked in until we left the experience was perfect. The owner greeted us so warmly and the food was superb, freshly cooked. There were so many things we want to try so will have to go back and go through the menu. Thank you for a lovely evening from the group from York. Looking forward to going back especially from the banoffe pie.

Thoroughly enjoyable upmarket fish jougons and curly fries served in buckets by very friendly staff. The bistro is placed on Clydeside and has a pleasant ambience. Good menu choice. Child friendly.

We went with a large family group for breakfast. Adults enjoyed delicious eggs benedict and the kids tucked into pancakes and croissants. Lovely coffee and the staff were very friendly and attentive.

It's a lovely place, nice art on walls, staff nice, food nice etc etc but £4.50 is too much for a chocolate brownie! I don't seem to be the only one who thinks that's too much.....

We were in the Newhaven part of Edinburgh for another reason and stumbled upon Porto & Fi and popped in for a tea/coffee atop. We were not disappointed, particularly with the loverly and extensive selection of cakes and scones. So good was it that we have returned twice more.My one disappointment (a taste thing) was that on one occasion the fruit scone was heated and as a result it had dried out a little - shame - but still finished it!

Had a lovely dinner here last night for my son’s 30th Birthday. 16 of us which the staff coped with very well with such a small kitchen. Great menu and all dishes enjoyed. Thanks to all the staff.

Nice place for a quiet coffee. The staff always seem pleasant enough, and the coffee is always nice. Haven't eaten before but noticed they have a selection on breakfast items that look appetizing. Will return tp sample and feedback when I do.

Small bistro on a corner opposite the harbour. Sparsely furnished but with cool decor and nice relaxed atmosphere created by friendly staff.Menu is varied but everything we had was well presented and tasty.

Just finished a great meal. Cullen skink risotto. Recommended. Excellent. Followed by Apple and cinnamon Crumble & custard. Yummy. I’ve made a note and will return.

This cafe is on the seafront in the old port of Newhaven. The staff were friendly and welcoming. We went for brunch, and the food was great.

Heard plenty of good things about Porto and Fi, and drive past it most days, but have never visited. Sort of became a running joke. However, today we finally paid a visit for lunch and it was well worth it. Nice relaxed atmosphere and a good menu. Portions were large and very tasty. Excellent service and decent value for money. Even the booming Scottish accents of the posh Edinburgh ladies who lunch did didn’t put me off. Will return to sample the evening ambience.

You can always guarantee a tasty lunch here at Porto & Fi. Today we enjoyed cheddar, black pudding & mushroom quiche and a tomato, aubergine & harissa soup with cheese scone. All very tasty with pleasant enough service.

On my first trip to Scoltand I visited this cafè (with 5 other people) for breakfast. Great selection of both savoury & sweet dishes, we all tried diffrent food and it was all delicious and tasty. Very pretty cafè. We would go back

Myself and family were kindly greeted by one of the younger girls who quickly seated us without a reservation even though it was very busy. We then sat and waited a while for someone to come over and take our order. The lady who came over to take our order (older lady, who I presumed was the manager) was so rude and unfriendly. She made everyone at the table feel so uncomfortable and unwelcome. I have no idea what the issue was but it felt as though she had a problem with us and god forbid you question the menu or ask to substitute something - expect sighing and eye rolling.

Mi tía y yo vinimos por un buen almuerzo y Porto y Fi no decepcionó! Incluso tuve la oportunidad de conocer al propietario que era muy guay, ya estoy de vacaciones desde los Estados Unidos. La comida era deliciosa y perfectamente preparado, y no puedo esperar a volver! Todos los ingredientes frescos y no demasiado caro! Preciosas vistas al lado del puerto!

Esta crítica es desde hace mucho tiempo. Todos los de mi familia hemos ido a Porto y Fi durante muchos años desde que nos mudamos a la zona y nos encanta! Desayuno, almuerzo, cena o simplemente café y pastel, todo acerca de este lugar de bolsillo pequeño de Edimburgo es una delicia. El restaurante es luminoso y fresco, con una vista del agua y arte local adornando las paredes.

Almorcé hoy aquí y sólo puedo describirlo como encantador. El personal era muy agradable, el restaurante estaba bien y limpia y las mesas no están demasiado cerca juntos.

Une excellente dernière soirée à Edimbourg, le vendredi 17 août 2018, due au hasard pur qui parfois fait extrêmement bien les choses. Nous avons goûté le risotto au haddock, la salade au homard, le poulpe sauté à la poêle et les lasagnes au boeuf et plusieurs desserts dont l'excellent sticky toffee pudding. Le service est sans-faute (si ce n'est l'apparente méconnaissance des bières servies) et les plats dignes d'un chef étoilé avec un raffinement des éléments utilisés apportant une subtilité gustative et des surprises qu'un gourmet attend d'un repas exceptionnel. Les serveurs sont très sympathique et attentionnés et les prix sont raisonnables pour des gens ordinaires (compter 25 livres par personne pour plat + dessert + boisson). Que demander de plus??? Si nous retournions à Edimbourg, ce restaurant deviendrait mon préféré, au quotidien, sans aucun doute.

Hemos tenido helado un par de veces, pero nunca comida hasta hoy. El marisco linguini, risotto y pescado goujons skunk cullen nos excepcional. Cuando quieres marisco fresco, con una buena vista que sería muy difícil de superar este restaurante. Felicitaciones al personal amable y talentoso chef.

Alojarse en Leith, quedamos totalmente encantados de encontrar, Porto y Fi. Quedamos totalmente satisfechos, probar platos creativos para comidas variadas y diversas. Si pudiera teleport a Escocia, este sería en la agenda.

Un restaurante de barrio agradable, bien un café/bistro, que Llevo tiempo queriendo visitar por 10 años según su buena reputación de boca en boca, pero nunca tuve la oportunidad de hacerlo hasta hace poco.

Comimos aquí, mi ensalada griega estaba bien aunque prefiero la mía con el pepperoncini's y vinagre balsámico y aceite en vez de una crema, pero aún así sabroso y agradable de la porción. El quiche necesitaba un poquito más aderezos pero bonita corteza. El servicio fue rápido y la vista del agua era encantador. El lugar estaba abarrotada de clientes almuerzo así que yo llame con antelación

We had booked a table for 7 only to find the waitress thought it was for 2, very curt reception at this but they hurriedly pushed some tables together under what was a bit of a 'cloud'. we have been going here since it opened and never experienced service like it, the young waitress was exceptionally nice but the older lady was downright rude to us, unusual I admit but not at all welcome, my mother and sister has been at the garden party with my two nieces and rather than travel home I decided to take them to P&F;, wish I hadn't. They were so deflated with the attitude and service of this older waitress.... time to move her on I expect....food was good as usual but risotto was made with diced potato rather than rice and was lacking in fish, my niece was not at all happy, when we had finished the waitress was advised of her disappointment and the meal deducted from the bill, it would have been nice to have received an apology... Me encanta este lugar, personal amable y comida de calidad. Huevos Royale es sabroso cada vez y gran tamaño de la porción. Café es excelente y la manzana y arándanos frescos con crema pastelera es estuvó ridículamente bueno. Preciosas vistas al mar. Frecuentes y a menudo no se parar en cualquier momento pronto!

Excelente ubicación y excelente comida recién hecha. El desayuno era realmente deliciosos - pedimos el black pudding panecillos y los huevos revueltos en granary - podría haber comido todo de nuevo! Una decoración preciosa y dulce. Ojalá hubiéramos tenido más lugares como este, que sirve auténtica comida casera. Podría haber optado por la increíble selección de tartas - tristemente que estaba a sólo 10. 30:00!

Nos lo pasamos de maravilla en Porto y Fi. Las comidas eran deliciosos. Tuvimos el risotto y el rape. Tanto de la comida fue genial. El postre pegajosa toffees también era genial. Tuvimos un gran servicio y altamente Porto. Era nuestra favorita en Edimburgo! !

Almorcé allí con mis amigos el sábado 28 de abril de 2018. Buena mesa junto a la ventana. Servicio amable y eficiente. Comida muy buena, aunque me pareció un poco mi postre sosa podría ser mi problema, ya que me voy fuera de cosas dulces ya que envejece. Loos limpio. Sin duda volveremos.

Just been to Porto & Fi for the first time in a while, just as good as I remember it. Fantastic main course and sweets to die for Service just as friendly as I remember it

Disfrutamos de una comida maravillosa en Porto y Fi hace un par de semanas. Estaba concurrido, la comida del domingo, pero el servicio era bueno, el personal muy amable. Buen menú y deliciosa comida recién preparada. No me sentí agobiada aunque estaba ocupado. Recomiendo reservar una mesa. ¡volveremos!

Siempre me olvido de este lugar y luego cuando buscando un lugar informal sábado almuerzo no se puede conseguir sin reserva.

Comí aquí por primera vez ayer y quedé muy impresionado. El personal era amable y la comida era de alta calidad.
