Porters Bar and Restaurant in Dundee City

Sunday 19th November 2023 Just in from a family dinner at Porters. Compliments to the chef and staff.

Service was average, food not too great. Steak was quite chewy, plus to pay £3.50 extra for pepper sauce absolutely shocking. Wife had burger which she said was okay. Far too many add ons you have to pay for. For my 8oz sirloin it cost over £33 . Yes only 8oz .

Absolutely exceptional service from the girls and kitchen at Porters last night. Heading to the theatre with a friend, coming over from Fife. Our booking was for 17.30 and Dundee was gridlocked. 3 accidents either side of Tay Bridge exit. Phoned to say we’d be late - stuck on bridge. 17.50 we decided to phone in our order - still sitting on bridge. Staff member advised our order takes 30 minutes to cook. 18.25 staff member PHONED US BACK (without being asked) to say food was ready but chef would keep it hot. 18.40 we eventually got there, walked in, sat down, food was immediately set in front of us on lovely hot plates, drinks brought, desserts ordered and brought, extremely efficient and pleasant service (even saying they’d try to get a traffic update from customers for our onward journey to the theatre) - paid and left at 19.05. Food was delicious and, although it had been kept hot for nearly 15 minutes, the kitchen had done an excellent job. We got to our show in time for the start - couldn’t have done it without you lot! I have had a catering/hospitality business for a number of years and everything was exceptional. I would be proud if you worked for me. Thank you all.

Had a fantastic 40th birthday celebration dinner for my daughter last night at Porters. The staff were fantastic and the service was amazing. Food fantastic and drinks and cocktails amazing. Would definitely recommend this restaurant when in Dundee.

On the waterfront this restaurant boasts some of the finest steaks in Dundee. Our table of 12 was placed in the drinks area/bar, quite separate from the dining room. Consequently the service was not as attentive as it could have been. The barman pointed to the table and there was a 15 minute wait for service. When it did arrive, it was curt and matter of fact. The draught beer selection was limited to 2, and no IPA. Disappointing to the group. The food was pre ordered well in advance. The food got a thumbs up from the group. Perfectly cooked steaks, tasty accompaniments and sauces. Pity that the service didn't match the quality of the food.

Visited for the fist time with my husband for lunch. We didn’t get off to the best start as the waitress tried to squeeze us in to a table just next to a big table with noisy kids! When I asked if we could sit at another table the waitress had an attitude. The food however did make up for it. I had the prawn cocktail to start and my husband had the tomato soup. We both had the blade of beef for main. Decent sized portions and very tasty. I would return again.

We booked a space for 21 people for dinner and drinks following spreading ashes. I dealt with Kevin when making the booking and everything was done smoothly and quickly. He was very responsive on emails. The staff were very friendly and service was quick. We had one issue where the steak was cold and the mac&cheese didn’t arrive but these were fixed quickly and I’m told the replacement steaks were wonderful and the mac&cheese was thoroughly enjoyed. We would certainly go back. Family in Dundee said they were happy we chose this restaurant over another on the wharf at a popular spa hotel (not naming names). I have recently recommended that a work colleague traveling form South Africa for a conference in Dundee also eat at Porters as the food was so nice. On the food front - I had the chicken supreme and I would order that again in a heartbeat. It was succulent, full of flavour and piping hot (as I like it). The cheese portion was very large and we shared it among 4 of us. Very tasty though I wasn’t sure about the one with chillies as I’m not great with spice. For drinks I had a few different cocktails - all were great! The non-alcoholic cocktails were very inventive and the kids loved them. We plan to head back to Dundee next year and we will definitely be booking Porters again!

Went for the first time to Porters for dinner last night - we will definitely be returning. We had the chicken supreme and a burger with a cheesecake to share for dessert. The food was outstanding! We didn’t wait long for the meals, service was good. If we were to pick a fault with anything it’s that they didn’t have any coke on draft which we would’ve preferred to a can. Looking forward to going again.

Great 1st Time Experience, Clean and tidy, service spot on and attentive. Starters both of us enjoyed, hot fresh and didn’t have to wait too long, Nor did we have to wait too long in between courses, Mains were fantastic, wife thoroughly enjoyed risotto, Thank you.

Wonderful restaurant. Here in Dundee for hockey trip and found this restaurant near apex hotel. Great steak pie with wonderful meat and lovely pastry. Even pastry on bottom. Husband had excellent chicken with lovely spicy sauce and haggis bolls. First class dessert with Best salted caramel ice cream I've ever had! Excellent choice of drinks had great cocktails. Superb restaurant excellent service highly recommended.

Visited Porters with 5 others for tea recently. Everything from booking the table, getting served and the food was perfect. Couldn't ask for anything more. 2 course meals all round, everything was cooked to perfection and tasted fantastic. Not a bit of food left in sight. Overheard other tables complementing their food too. Loving the new menu items and will be returning again many more times.

We went here while staying at the Apex hotel. Booked in advance. Menu was extensive with good vegetarian options for me. Hubby had the haggis and black pudding croquettes followed by the Sunday roast. I passed on a starter and had the Mac and cheese which came with chips and garlic bread. It was really tasty. I opted for a pudding the awesome sticky toffee and ginger pudding with salted caramel ice cream. The pudding was light and tasty. I had a lovely ice tea and hubby a beer. Staff were lovely and service swift even with a huge party of about 20 in.

Never been before and wasn't sure, due to a couple of not great reviews, however happy we went. They squeezed us in during a busy night, we were seated quickly even though we were early and got us sorted with drinks right away. We had the prawn cocktail and black pud/haggis croquettes and we both had burgers with tweaks which was no problem. Food was pretty good, the chips were amazing as were the onion rings which we probably didn't need. Staff were run off their feet, but very responsive when you needed them, but were always very friendly.we were about £55 for food and £25 for 3 beers, and 2 soft drinks, including a mocktail. That's about normal for the food anyway.

Visited porters bar and restaurant on Wednesday night for there steak night deal. Me and my partner both opted for sirloins both medium rare with prawns Kebabs. Both cooked to perfection and the prawns were delicious succulent coated in garlic butter yum( and plenty of them) lovely crisp onion rings and lovely crispy chips. Great service very professional with great cocktails what more could you ask for.

Very disappointing. Tasteless and processed food. Nothing original. The waitress was one the most unpleasant staff member I've seen in my whole life. No greeting, no thank you, no smile, nearly aggressive. You'll never ever see me there again.
