Pokesdown Chippy in Bournemouth

We didn’t actually plan to come here but everything seemed to have shut early on a Monday evening and at only other option we couldn’t park anywhere. So we’re grateful to find this on route home. Thought would be good as said all cooked fresh to order and also bonus as halal . Initially didn’t want to accept the order as very busy but I was happy to wait as I did not really want services food . But it was not worth the 25 minutes wait at all . The cod was tiny and batter had an odd taste . The spicy wings were tasteless and rubbery. And the jumbo battered sausage was standard size and not particularly nice either. I’m afraid I cannot recommend this place at all . It was very disappointing. Better fish and chips at home in

Absolutely amazing food Fish was cooked to order tasted great nice soft flakey cod and chips were just as good, all hot and freshly cooked

Where do I start, ordered this online and wish I hadn't. Arrived one hour after I ordered through Just Eat. Said on app they don't prepare order until driver assigned. Good God, this must have been sitting in heater section for hours. Fish was super dry, not one micron of moisture in it whatsoever and super tough, this goes for the battered sausage too. As for the chips, hard and looked/tasted just flashed in fryer after being pre- cooked. Worst meal I've had in a long long time. Save your money and go elsewhere. Complete waste of the £28.00. It cost because it went straight in the bin. You really should be ashamed of sending out food like that for the amount you charge

Have used Pokesdown Chippy a few times now. Great fish and chips. Always cooked well, and not greasy. Excellent curry sauce as well.

Last time we will be visiting this chip shop. Gone down hill since new owners taken over who are rude and arrogant to both their staff and customers. No complaint about staff only sympathy. Dropped in for a couple large portions of chip to be told we don't do just chips, you'll have to wait at least 20 minutes. Recommend if you don't want to be insulted and want decent food look elsewhere. We have ordered food here a number of time spending well over £60 on each visit for medioca food. Certainly won't be returning

Very small piece of fish with chips that were mixed with small hard chips so only able to eat half. Would not recommend at all. Will never be back here.

Recently changed hands, was our favourite chippy. This meal was 25% more than the other local chip shops the chips were a small amount for a large portion. The fish batter was soggy most of it was stuck to the paper. Very expensive small portions and nasty batter. We won’t be going there again.

Great chippy, friendly staff. Chips and fish are really good and have been going here regularly for a while.

Been a few times now when I am working in the area. This is a fantastic place! Have gone from fish and chips to battered sausage and chips to cheesy chips and battered sausage and every time it has just been perfect. My last visit I was given some amazing hot sauce that complimented the meal. I like to come and visit to support when I am working in the area as the man there is extremely nice and very welcoming. This is something that has made me go back as when working in different areas I don’t always know too much around me. Visit if you can and support this fantastic chippy!

What a gentleman I ordered a takeaway tonight through just eat , who I have never had a problem with until now. My takeaway did not arrive so I rang the shop “sorry I don’t know your name” the gentleman said that the delivery driver who is employed independently was given my order on time , but didn’t deliver it :( The gentleman kindly offered to bring me a fresh order when he closed the shop . So kind thank you 🙏 I will definitely revisit your shop. As your kindness and quality of the food is fantastic. Thank you ☺️ to Just eat who promptly refunded me and apologized. Tosh. X

Exceeellentttt customer service really polite friendly and chatty unlike alot of workers who show their fed up and don't wanna be there. Food is lovely especially the chips. Fishcakes and burgers Would highly recommend Good prices too

I only wanted fish (not chips). Chose the medium cod. The portion was generous, with thick, succulent fish and thin, crispy batter (I usually throw away fish batter because I find it too thick and gooey to digest; this time I ate every last morsel!). The staff were cheerful and helpful. I'd definitely go there again should I be visiting Bournemouth and fancying fish :)

We have eaten here before and the fish and chips were lovely. Unfortunately on this occasion the batter was raw on the inside and overcooked on the outside. The chips were anaemic. We ate them because we were very hungry but the overall quality was poor.

Cooked to order, reasonable price and good service. on a busy day it will be a long queue but worth the wait.

I ordered 2 x large Cod , chips, mushy peas over the phone, he said 10 minutes I got there in ten minutes and it was just being bagged up, superb. The Cod was ENORMOUS, the chips were superb, the mushy peas were ok but the Cod and chips made it a 10/10 seriously the flesh was meaty and the batter very crispy. Best Cod and chips I have had for years.

Having been loyal customers of a nearby rival business which had been disappointing on the last two visits, we decided to try Pokesdown Chippy. Wow! What a difference, The fish was wonderfully fresh and cooked to perfection, the best we’ve had in years. The chips were great too. Thank you Pokesdown Chippy, we will be back agsin very soon.

Light batter, fresh fish and crispy chips. We had three cod and two chips between three of us which was more than enough. A great Friday night treat. We ordered by phone in advance and it was ready on time and the service was friendly. No complaints.

On way to do business in church passed by and was delighted to find with out a doubt the best fish and chips on the Bournemouth area. Lunch deal. Chips and fish cooked.perfectly and.a.can of apple tango. brilliant!

We are staying at the village hotel for two nights whilst in the area and due to Covid didn't want to eat out in restaurants or pubs, so checked Trip Advisor and found this gem, which is only about a 5minute drive from the hotel with on street parking directly outside. We each had jumbo battered sausage, standard chips and curry sauce £10.50 in total! There was about a 15minute wait on our food but that was no issue especially as the food was all cooked fresh to order. We ate back in our hotel room and the food was still lovely and warm, the chips were perfect with no grizzly chips, the batter on the sausages was fab and the curry sauce was quite possibly the best I've ever had from a chip shop. If/when we are in the area again we will certainly be back to the chip shop.

Amazing Fish and Chips. Large haddock just awesome and the chips first class. Worth the drive if you are not nearby.

The absolute best everrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr cod and chips I’ve ever had , and it’s consistent, none of the nasty chips and greasy chewy batter on fish , nice and crispy, I’ve never had fish and chips so many times since I found the pokesdown chippy

Been using this chip shop for ages. Excellent 5 stars. Long day time opening is a great thing. The cod is always fresh and portions are always plentiful.

I’ve walked past this chippy a number of times and decided to venture in. The food was cooked to order and the staff were really friendly. The fish and chips were some of the best i’ve ever had! Beautifully cooked and not greasy at all! Would totally recommend!

I go here regularly. I have tried most of the local chippies and this is the best by a long way. The staff are always friendly and suggest the best fish. Everything is cooked to order so is fresh and perfectly cooked.

We visited on bank holiday Monday while visiting Bournemouth- good range on the menu and everything was cooked to order. Our children loved the singing bass on the wall! We took our food to the seafront to eat so no photos of the food but our children both had the children's chicken nuggets and chips- which they struggled to finish, I had a chicken burger and chips, and my husband had medium cod and chips. The chips were well cooked and tasty - not too greasy, the fish was lightly battered and perfectly cooked, the chicken burger was very tasty and my children demolished the chicken nuggets.There was some on street parking outside, definitely worth waiting for the food to be cooked! Will visit again

Excellent tasting none greasy Fish and Chips, cooked to order and well worth the short wait. Would definitely recommend to anyone. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff, they were very helpful. Very clean establishment.

Just moved to the local area, and tried our chippy! Fantastic fish and chips, flaky fish, crispy batter...just what you want from a Friday visit to the chippy! We will be back

Called in " on spec "one Saturday night on my way home. Friendly staff and very pleasant food. It was freshly prepared and tasted great. Would consider going again should I be in the area

All food is cooked to order. Great fish (skinned) and neither fish or chips were greasy. Have visited several times now on our way back from the beach. Best take away fish and chips I've had.

Nice fish. Chips not. Crispy do a good range of bits and pieces all products cooked to order so you will have to wait Staff not very friendly

Must be the best fish and chip shop I've visited. Allow 10 mins for your order as all meals are cooked while you wait... but it is so worth it !! Can't fault these guys in any way !!

Fish cooked freshly to order, good pieces of cod and haddock and generous portion of chips. Easy to park outside for passing trade.

Chippy reopened with new owners within the last year and what a difference. These are the best fish & chips we've had in a long time. Very generous portions. Lovely owner and staff - very friendly. We would highly recommend.
