Stopped here for some lunch today, they have a new small plate menu which was just right size after a long walk, the food itself outstanding cooked to perfection and very tasty, excellent value for money would highly recommend and will definitely be returning, the lovely scouse lady who runs this place is very welcoming and fantastic customer service, lovely little bar. Thumbs up from all our group. I'm not one for reviewing but people really need to know how nice this place is.

We stopped off here after climbing Helm Crag before walking back into Grasmere for some lunch and a hot drink - we weren't disappointed. While a limited menu it was just what we both needed. We both had chicken and pesto sandwiches and shared the homemade chips - everything was freshly made and very tasty. We sat inside as it was a chilly day but imagine it would be lovely sitting outside with the views of the fells in the distance. The waitress was very friendly and nothing was too much trouble for her, we also enjoyed the playlist she had on! We'd definitely visit again :)

Having read several reviews we thought we were lucky to have this place a short walk from our accommodation but the meagre portions served up on the disproportionately large and cold plates ruined our expectations. The quality was mostly just about ok, although the beef was very tough. One carrot and one piece of tenderstem broccoli with 2 small roasties and a boiled potato! Had any of the staff bothered to come and ask us if everything was ok then I would have offered some comments but nobody did even though it wasn't that busy therefore it was probably best we didn't end up in a discussion or worse. How any establishment thinks this is value for money in this day and age I'll never understand.

The cafe is clearly better visited in the summer months and/or decent weather. The indoor space is very small and dark, But the home made soup and cakes were good and the range of beers and spirits looks good.

We had a lovely walk in the area and stopped at the Poet's cafe bar. To call it a bar doesn't give it the praise it deserves. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and the food , well it was delicious - home made. I enjoyed my favourite tipple (draught cider), it was such a great way to end a beautiful scenic walk. We will all be returning as soon as we can.

I have to say faultless. What a wonderful place. Good food, I have friends who are vegetarian and what a good selection on the menu for them which is unusual. Staff so friendly and welcoming, good price for the meal you get. Staff very attentive and if you ask for anything it is never too much trouble. Enjoyed the food and the laughs as Paul the manager was very entertaining. We booked for 3 stays after this visit and are hopefully looking forward to going in July after lockdown. If anyone wants a lovely meal with a gorgeous view then this is the place. Well done to the staff who make the meal so enjoyable

We did a circular walk from Grasmere village having seen a sign for Poets Cafe saying they are now open from the day before. When we arrived the lights were on and we went in and shouted to ask could we have some coffee and cakes. The owner came through and said we are shut as they were having some work done. We challenged him saying you have a sign in the village saying you are open from yesterday. He said it should not be there and he would go down and remove the sign. Two things there was no sign of any workmen and we walked all the way down the drive back to Grasmere and he never came past to remove the sign and it was still there a few hours later. Golden rule never refuse a customer we won’t be back again.

After eating here a few times, we popped in mainly to say hello to Paul, and Becky. The staff work hard here, but always have time to say hello. Poets bar is perfect place to pop in, get a quick cuppa after a long day walking. The welcoming and the humor are always there, regdardless of how busy they are. We get free parking and our loyalty cards as return clients. Thanks guys and girls See you in December

Writing a review as there were so many signs asking me to. It was awful. After a long walk on a hot Saturday, popped in for a cold drink as advertised outside. The only draft drink that wasn’t off, was Stowford Press. It should have been off as well. Cloudy and watery, I suspect it was somehow mixed with lager. (I don’t even understand how you mess that up.) Took it back to the poor guy behind the bar who’d been left on his own to cope with too many customers whilst the person who appeared to be the manager, loudly sold a wedding to a couple outside. He thinks it is ‘insane’ for them to get their flowers from Macclesfield. He’s also ‘sourcing’ some champagne. Ended up with 2 small bottles of Peroni (and no apology for the off cider) for £9. YES NINE POUNDS! In short, will never be going back.

A history of Lancrigg can be found in the bar. Wordsworths woodland walks, now a mature woodland designed by Wordsworth. This is just a taster for the restaurant in the hotel.

We were tempted into the cafe by the signs welcoming walkers, however we were sadly disappointed. Lovely setting, but the cafe menu does not cater for the average walker (no sandwiches). We opted for hot drinks & cake instead, as did several other patrons. A real shame as a more accessible ramblers menu and better service would certainly boost trade.

We only stopped for hot drinks, but cosy and functional room. Service was slow and the drinks orders weren't quite right - but enjoyable all the same.Dogs welcomed, and no issues with muddy boots at all!We didn't have one, but the cakes looked incredible, and the lunch menu very reasonably priced.

This hotel now appears to be positively attempting to attract walkers and passing trade. As well as outdoor seating with fantastic views there is now a small indoor bar. We had coffee and flapjack which was very good. The sandwiches which other customers were eating were huge. The food and drink seemed to be quite expensive.

After a good walk up the crag we came across this place. Doesn't look much from the outside but the friendly staff welcomed us even with our wet and probably muddy boots. Ordered sunday lunch, lamb. roast and pureed potatoes and carrots to die for. Definitely recommend the chef. other staff were pretty good too though!
