This place is AWESOME! The location; on the canal with all the to-ing and fro-ing that entails! You’d never know you were in the middle of the city! It’s beautiful! Then the food.. as a vegan I VERY MUCH APPRECIATE the separate and FULL vegan menu. The pancakes and full English are SUBLIME! I’ve taken carnivore friends there, and they highly rate the grub for them, too! But if all this wasn’t good enough, the service is second-to-none. They are so friendly and welcoming and cannot do enough to deliver what you need from your visit. I cannot recommend the playwrights more highly. The only draw back is they’re is busy at the weekends!

Had the pleasure of having breakfast and was 5 stars. Also staff were amazing. The young gentleman was very well mannered and attentive. Would 100% reccomend

What a lovely place! A delightful breakfast spot with friendly staff and warm atmosphere.

A wonderful cafe. People are friendly. The dishes are very tasty. I think that it is the best place for meeting with friends in Coventry. It is important for me that cafe is near the Canal Basin. It makes "Playwrights" cosy and quiet.

Good food, served by a young lad that we were told was new, he did a really good job! Staff were friendly too

So happy to see Playwrights open again. Very hard to find a decent place that does great breakfasts served hot and that cater for vegan, veggie and gluten free diners. Really missed this place!!!

Used to order breakfasts online regulary. It was always brilliant until it wasnt. The last two orders were horrible, burnt food, hair, some of it undercooked. Lost us as regular weekend cistomers. I do wonder if its better this time when reopens.

Food is amazing Service attentative Small venue that's quite chatty, so if thats your thing its the right place for you.

Amazing place! Food is always so good and it’s in a lovely part of the city right by the canal side. I have eaten here many times, both my boyfriend and myself have intolerances and we’ve never had any issues, the staff are very knowledgeable and really friendly and the menu is clearly marked. They even update their menu to swap to items with less allergens in them if they can. For example we never used to be able to have the black pudding but they’ve since found a new supplier and it’s gluten free. I have recently attended a vegan evening (food in the photos) and it did not disappoint!!!!!! I can’t recommend this cafe enough and I always look forward to my visits here. Thank you!!!

Great atmosphere, food and ambience. Sat in the outside seating area & sampled the delicious halloumi wrap. Others tried the vanilla shake & coffees. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

We recently had our works Christmas meal here and everyone was really happy with the food and service! The staff were so accommodating and all the food for our large group was all correct, which many other places haven’t been able to achieve on previous Christmas meals elsewhere (even with preorder!) Well done Playwrights, we’ll definitely be back!

The Playwrights is a lovely little cafe with brilliant views and plenty of outdoor seating overlooking the Coventry Canal Basin. It has great coffee, well cooked food, and excellent service from experienced waiting staff, who really seem to care. We were especially impressed by the vegan selection on the menu, and some of the little touches of detail, such as home made coleslaw, and a choice of tomatoes (roast or plumb). Our only suggestion would be to upgrade the bread used for toast.

Amazing breakfast Great service

Sat outside in the sunshine. Table service apart from when paying I went to the till. We ordered 3 different flavoured milkshakes and I thought the vanilla was not tasty at all so was able to swap mine for my husband's. The staff were all friendly and the menu had many choices.

Reconnendation by friends and work colegues. Had the breakfast with real cumberland sausage, toast on the side. The cafe here is always changing hands. Came back for another, seems late breakfast but the coffee does work after 5 cups.

Nice place to visit, staff were really friendly and helpful. I would say overall the food was nice and our group enjoyed the meals. However, I would say the delay in food coming out was noticeable, some food came out separately and my meal specifically was of lower quality and a little cold. However, their extensive menu and good food coming out to other diners makes you want to return.

Had English breakfast last week I asked for fried eggs runny however when came the yolks were undercooked and the plate was full off unnecessary amount of tomatoes, thought I would try again today and go for chilli beef potato I asked for take away which did not take long but yet again I was very displeased when I realised there was no hardly no chilli and they threw other small foods in with the chilli also the jacket was not fresh I won’t be going there again the kitchen needs proper chefs or people who actually no how to cook not worth the price

Playwrights Cafe is a little hidden gem in Coventry. Lovely cafe, by the Canal Basin. We went there for breakfast and it's exactly what you want from a traditional British Breakfast Cafe.

Great produce and amazing location just cant go wrong with this place.

Went over the weekend after a bike ride up the canal. Great spot, and able to sit outside next to the canal (good weather helped) and lock bikes up safely on bike racks. Had a pot of tea and sausage sandwich, others had wraps and eggs benedict which looked really nice. Milkshakes look nice too but not tried one myself. Next time maybe! Reasonably priced too.

We sat outside by the canal and it was lovely. Food was great and staff really helpful and attentive. Excellent menu with lots of choice for all dietary requirements. No idea what we spent as we were treated. It was a great morning and we will definitely return.

Playwrights cafe... one word " FANTASTIC " We go to Playwrights weekly for breakfast the food is 100% and quality very very good. The staff are always friendly and happy to help, never had any poor experience at this excellent little cafe. I would 100% recommend playwrights to everyone.

Forgot to take photos of the food as it was too lovely and we wanted to get stuck in!! My friend needs gluten free and the menu is jam packed full of options for him!! (normally he can either have ham egg and chips or jacket potato) We both had cod and chips ( absolutely amazing!!) My fella had the bacon and cheese burger which again looked amazing. The portion sizes were huge and everythinf was cooked amazingly!! Staff were friendly and helpful definitely planning on going back soon!!
