Lovely experience here. Lovely and warm. Food was served hot and the scampi and chips were lovely and golden. One had a sandwich which was served in fresh bread with generous filling. Staff were very friendly. Will definitely be going again.l

My husband always has a large latte and they give you a loyalty card. Place and people not very good. Surly and rude a lot of the time but this seems to happen a lot since covid. This weekend was even worse than normal and we will never return. Filled loyalty card buying large lattes but they would only exchange for a tea. I was told the rules had changed. This cafe is now called the watering can since they took it away from last owner after covid and the manager is very rude, Very expensive for so so food and drink with rude arrogant service.

Vegetable curry, rice okay, curry flavour sauce poor, vegetables mainly mushy carrot shapes one piece of overcooked celery and another mushy vegetable - worse meal ever. Chicken stew - so unappealing lay presented - served in soup dish - dried chicken lumps one side, lots of boiled skin on potatoes the other side on some overcooked cabbage with very little gravy underneath. We got a box to bring this back for our dog but then threw it out! One slice of bread and butter £1.50!! On the up side the filter coffee and bottle of coke were good. Memo to self only use this cafe for drinks and scones.

Toast was jet black, my friend had a jacket potato and the skin was too hard to eat. The menu was on the table printed out with three desserts Bread and butter pudding, ice cream with chocolate sauce and chocolate brownie with walnuts and ice cream. When we went to order she said they didn’t do chocolate brownie but I could have one off the cake counter and a tub of ice cream with it. But this would cost £2.00 more than the dessert printed on the menu. Just had the brownie then waited over 10 minutes for my friend’s bread and butter pudding. No apologies from the staff.

Called in here today (Sept 2021) for a look round the plants and shop, and decided to pop in the café for lunch. As it was a hot day we opted for sandwiches and a cup of coffee. You are requested to find a table, decide what you would like and for one person to go to the counter and order. When I went to the counter I was greeted by a very cheerful young lady, who took our order. Nothing was too much trouble, she was very polite and patient. As I had ordered coffees and they are made at time of ordering, I was asked to step to one side to wait. It was fascinating to watch another friendly young lady doing the preparation. We had ordered sandwiches, as it was a warm day, and they arrived just minutes after I had returned to the table with the coffees and sat down. There was plenty of filling in the sandwiches and they came with salad and coleslaw. It was lovely and cool sitting inside in the café and our lunch was delicious. Praise must also go to the three young ladies working in the café, from the one who took our order, to the one who was clearing the tables. All were very friendly and polite. It was a pleasure to have lunch there.

I have been visiting this cafe for over a year, between once and three times a week. Andy, the restaurant manager is absolutely superb, he makes everyone feel welcome and his customer service skills are second to none. He will sit with customers and take the time to ask if they are ok. I believe this is important to build customer relations. The youngest female member of staff is fine and very polite. The older northern lady has zero customer care skills. When I asked for a cup of tea and said that I didn’t want anything else she replied “IS THAT IT!” Whilst pouring the tea she was happily making an underhanded comment to her colleague then loudly laughing. I felt that the customers were on one big conveyor belt and she was just rushing them along to make her day go quicker. No care or consideration for the customers. I then went to go outside and saw another staff member who usually resides in the kitchen so I smiled politely and I was given a death stare, if looks could kill I would have been dead on the restaurant floor within an instant! Everyone has their off day but it’s a real shame as this is a really nice little place to go.

Myself and my family are regularly customers to the Plantation Cafe as well has Cherry Lane. We love the atmosphere and the staff are so friendly and helpful but the food on the other hand is going down hill. On my visit a couple weeks ago I was served rotten salad which was black and mushy, today I was served disgusting musty fried tomatoes. I’m sure the kitchen had over cooked them to try hide the appearance of them, I was not prepared to even try them and the smell was foul. I love this place as it is our local and we have been going there before cherry lane took over. I hope this problem is sorted out as sadly this visit could be my last.

We are regular visitors to the cafe but our recent visit has prompted this review. We were 'greeted' by a member of staff who clearly found serving us tiresome. The food was poor. The hot drinks were lukewarm and scones very hard and stale. All for the extremely overpriced total of £10! The cafe was dirty, with cobwebs crumbs everywhere. We had originally wanted a cake but the cabinet in which the cakes were stored was partially open and a fly was busy feasting on the cakes and pastries!

We went to this establishment and had a sandwich. My wife had a Tuna sandwich and now has been in bed for the last 4 days. The doctor was called and diagnosed Food poisoning. My wife had already complained about the freshness of the bread which was met with a swift reply that it was today's but was stale. This is not the first time we have complained about the freshness of their produce. Considering that the manager used to work in a well known establishment beggars belief. The latte coffee could be better and the prices are not cheap. I wonders where they get their star ratings from, silly me, it is the local council who now send a letter out asking if things are the same and do not visit. No wonder places get missed. Will not be visiting again

We decided to have Sunday Roast here and were very pleasantly surprised at what we had. We went straight in for the main course. I had the Roast Beef and my partner had a very nice vegetarian option. The beef that had obviously been cooked as a large joint was just done, and it was tender and delicious. The vegetables were just done too, not stewed like some carvery's offer. Portions were good and average prices. Everywhere is clean including the loo's. Staff were very pleasant and polite. Yes, I do recommend this restaurant.

We have been several times recently and the last time the food was not up to scratch. Hubby had soup and a cheese scone ,soup was lovely and hot and very tasty but the scone had been overdone in the microwave. I opted for the bacon, brie and cranberry panini which was lovely last time but this time ...they had used streaky bacon and it was barely cooked and tasted awful. Such a shame as for the prices they charge you expect better!

Went for an advertised 'Two for One' cream tea BUT there was only one pot of jam and one pot of cream between two people. I have had a cream tea for one at Plantations recently and been given a pot of jam and a pot of cream to myself. To my way of thinking this is not a genuine offer as it is obviously not Two for One! Ok a 2 hour wait is totally unacceptable! On ordering I was told that delivery would be an hour, so ok great know, they’re busy, but happy they had told me this. After hour and half called and told , oh yeah your order is here on table, will be there in 5 minutes……….after the initial call, 2 hours later our order arrived, I think a free dessert would have been a great gesture. Our food was delicious though, roast dinner and a burger were tasty but this 2 hour wait needs addressing!

The toilets are so tired & by the looks of the dust in the corners of the cubicles, haven’t been properly cleaned for a while. Overall disappointing & there are much nicer pubs nearby.

6 of us dropped in for a drink after the cinema at 22.05 today . Totally deserted except for one customer at the bar. Waited over 5 minutes before the customer offered to find the bar staff. Empty glasses on bar and tables so obviously work to do but no staff. Young lady eventually appeared and promptly said we've finished serving. No apology. I am amazed bars can afford to turn away 6 customers let alone without an apology. Also strange on 2nd July to read Christmas menus displayed around the walls. No idea if these are very early for this year or left up from last year? I've worked in hospitality much of my life and the golden rule is 'never turn away a paying customer' Unfortunately a no stars review wasn't an option. Very disappointing.

Lovely food, lovely wine, charming friendly service, especially when our waitress said "really enjoyed serving you' Right, now a slight whinge - NOT aimed at the Crown alone but at ALL restaurants that add service to the bill, even discretionary. Why are they adding service on the VAT???? Happy to pay service on the net of VAT amount but NOT service on the Tax as well.
