Pizza Express - Henley on Thames in South Oxfordshire

We arrived at 7.45 as a none booked in couple! To be told that they had no dough!!! I got the impression that they had done their covers for the night and didn't want any more as they wanted to close early! A pizza restaurant with no dough! Come on they shouldn't be working there if they can't make up a pizza base!

It's a shame. We have always favored the Henley branch over Reading town centre as it is smaller. However tonight the service was chaotic and not as good as it used to be. The service was impersonal and rushed for example being asked how our meal was but not stopping to hear the answer! We had one pizza removed from the bill as it was not as it should have been and the mens toilets are very dirty and sticky underfoot. You could see other people had significant problems with their collection orders. I think the system was down. It's a shame but the restaurant is not as good as it once was when service was personal and chatty. The staff appeared very stressed which does not make for a relaxing atmosphere and I felt for them.

Always love pizza express, and had an especially good experience at the Henley restaurant recently. Came in for last minute dinner and drinks with friends the other week. We felt welcome upon arrival and were shown to a lovely cosy corner seat. The waitress was so fun and lovely, and had a laugh with us all making us feel very welcome. The service was brilliant, checking back and talking orders was all perfect. Brilliant food and drinks and all in all a lovely evening. Will be back. Thankyou to the team , we had a lovely evening.

Another excellent early dinner here with our young Son. Service was superb, pizzas were perfect. They were very busy on the Saturday evening we visited but if you’re reasonable and appreciate when it’s busy you might have to wait a little…we thoroughly enjoyed our dinner and visit. We regularly use this venue as our preferred Pizza Express location. See you soon. 👍

Shockingly slow service as always at this Pizza Express - family meal for 4 took over 2.5 hours. It’s SO slow at this restaurant. I mean it was over 30mins to clear the table!

Booked a table here with my son for 7.30. It was very quiet for a Saturday night! We waited ages for both menus, then our order to be taken. Our wine we had ordered we had to ask for. Water we had ordered we had to ask for, again. Under cooked starter and pizzas. What a poor show, why bother to open as none of you were in the least bit interested!

Just had lunch with my family and found a deal through the pizza express app with a lovely member of staff present while ordering. When it came to paying the app didn't recognize the deal. The manager was completely unreasonable and wouldn't honour it despite us clearly being misled. I feel completely cheated and won't be returning. So so disappointing.

Watch out if server suggests thinner pizza with same amount of dough. It comes in at 2 pounds more. Pizza good but pepper potent if ask for herbs.

My wife and I were visiting Henley for a couple of days and went to Pizza Express a couple of times, luckily we booked online on both occasions as very busy. The manager Jacob was under a lot of pressure but greeted, managed and served like an absolute professionall, a great asset to your organisation, and I would definitely go back if I knew he was working.

my daughter and 5 of her friends went to pizza express. and i was shocked to hear 3 pizzas took 2 hours to come, in which time they had missed their train home. I was informed they complained multiple times and were told they were in the oven. which was simply not true.

Literally cannot fault the service and food we received. Going out to eat as a family of five is a rare and special treat for us but often left disappointed in some way. This was 100% wonderful! Great welcome, attentive and friendly service, all menu items we asked for were available, food served in time and no one forgotten about (this often happens!). All dishes (various dough balls, pizzas, salads and a range of desserts) were delicious and enjoyed by all, including a vegetarian and a more choosy teenager! The restaurantvwas definately clean, but maybe a tad shabby in places, but not dirty. Eating out should always be this good! I hope all customers get an equally good experience.

My first impressions were good, friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere, which turned to a little irritation when I had to ask for menus after being seated for a long time. Again, lovely service from the waitress, but drinks order wasn't correct despite a confirmation. Decided to overlook that too. Asked for starter for one to come with mains for all, but starter arrived on its own. This was a good portion of lovely tender calamari lightly battered which turned out to be the highlight of the evening. When the main dishes arrived, they had significantly less content than the starter, at twice the price. What was eaten was certainly tasty. The chicken pesto pasta was returned twice for absence of chicken - it was returned with no additional chicken after a long time away, but covered in Parmesan. By that time, the rest of the party had eaten. We eventually gave up on that course and left, with the VIP of the party not having eaten. We were not charged for the pesto pasta. At all times the staff were courteous, and the manageress explained the chef was following corporate portion specifications, but looking at the photos on this site, I think they have either changed or were using grams instead of ounces. If this is the case, then it is a serious issue for the survival of Pizza Express. I understand food prices are rising, but the raw material costs for the meal need to be more than 1% of the retail price and also in line with what other restaurants are providing. It's not unreasonable to expect quality to include value. We visit restaurants for the social benefits including generating cohesion within the group, but the food has to be right for that to work. You do the food well, we'll do the rest. Pizza Express failed last night. The visit created tension within the party that lasted for the rest of the evening, and we all left angry and frustrated and wished we hadn't been.

To keep it short, order arrived 45 min later even though we have a child with us. Luckily the dough balls kept him going for a while. Terrible service in short. Even asking for boxes at the end took forever and got only 1. Never again!

Ordered a cuople of vegan pizzas online, went to collect and arrived 5 minutes after the time it was meant to be ready by yet had to wait a further 45 minutes in the restaurant, an older lady walked by after around 25 minutes and I asked her if there was an update on how long it would be to wich she laughed and shrugged her shoulders, I asked if there was anything she could do to wich she told me to go back into the kitchen and ask the chefs myself , was baffled by this for health and safety reasons so questioned it she then huffed and escorted me to the kitchen where I was told it would be another 5 minutes I then finally got the pizzas, came home and they turned out to be the complete wrong pizzas , wouldn’t normally mind and would just eat it however being vegan I couldn’t so took it back, there was a lovely young chap and a young brunette girl who were so helpful and understanding and very apologetic, they mentioned the manager would have to issue a refund as I didn’t want the pizzas anymore. When he came over he didn’t once apolgise and just said the money would be back within 2 days. Overall a very longggg and painful experience! Shouts to the 2 people who helped!

Great staff & service, these have been difficult times, so to find a clean and tidy restaurant where all the staff are engaging is a rare treat. Usual Pizza Express but managed to a very high standard. A gem of a town however we would certainly return to Henley-On-Thames just for this place.

Lovely staff (especially the only man working on evening of 22 June, I think Spanish?). Good pizzas but massiveLy overpriced, but that isn’t this restaurant’s fault, rather head office.

Typical pizza express fare, however the staff and service made this visit better. Nothing bad to say really. Would visit again.

Great food and very lovely staff. Food was timed perfectly from starters to mains, and the prosecco was perfect!

We popped in to pizza express in Henley without a reservation and we were met by a charming waitress Rita. Who found us a table straight away. She looked after us for our whole meal, and was excellent with a big smile. The food was good value, and the wine choice was more than adequate. Great place to pop in and have a decent meal, well done

Nice Clean decor, an attentive, friendly wait-staff, and the food arrives timely and cooked well. Viki was my waitress and I especially appreciated her demeanor. Very welcoming. Her nature certainly contributed to my experience. She's a keeper.

Is there any better time spent than having fun time with my girls having lunch? I would say no. The pizza was DELICIOUS and our server Viki was the best. She is a keeper. Best pizza ever and the best server.

Had a lovely meal with the kids this half term. Was so busy but the team kept up with the demand. The kids set menu is such good value for money. Rita was our waitress and she was fantastic.

We were stuck for somewhere to go with the family circa 6 pm on s Sunday night. PizzaExpress were able to fit us in and looked after us very well. Would certainly pop back there if in a similar position.

Don’t know what everyone is complaining about this place is great. Yes a little run down. But that’s character. Lisa the manager on duty was a good laugh. She interacted with us ladies like she was one of us. Would of much rather her sit and join us then to serve us.

If you are ever thinking of coming here, don’t. I would rather of eaten dinner in a babies ball pit or in the road on a motorway, and still would’ve been more calm or more quiet

I will be avoiding this place and suggest that you do too. Came with a friend and had to send the food back a couple of times as it was so bad. Service was shockingly slow and value for money was a void concept.

staff here are incompetent, they don’t listen to your order correctly and get things wrong all the time. Customer service when you have an issue is horrendous. The service in general when seated is tragic and staff are more interested about chatting to other staff members about their personal lives. Please just don’t waste your time here! Go to the one in Reading instead!!!!

Our meal was OK except for the order we received was incorrect!

Went for a family meal and my goodness has this gone downhill!! Waitress friendly but service very poor. Waited ages for someone to take drinks order and when drinks arrived they were warm and had to be returned. Asked for tap water for table and was told there is no ice!!! Just to see Waitress giving a large glass of ice to another table!!!! Had a simple order with kids dough balls to start and standard pizzas for mains and had to wait 50 mins for the pizzas to arrive!! Not very busy with no more than 10 other people. Very disappointed and will not rush back!

Using my Taste Card this is incredible value for money! Visit regularly and never disappointed! The staff are friendly and the restaurant is clean. They are very family friendly, and the food is fresh!

Went Sunday evening family of 5 with older teenage children. Waitress kind and attentive, but food really disappointing. I always have the Fiorentina, it was dry, think they forgot the garlic oil, and almost no cheese. Calamari tasteless. Both teenagers couldn't finish their Pollo Pesto way too much thick gloopy sauce. Didn't have the heart to complain to the waitress, also as it was a birthday celebration and didn't want to ruin the already low mood by going through the aggro of complaining.

We visited on bank holiday Monday at 2pm. They'd clearly had a rush as the place was in a bit of a mess, but we were seated quickly. Service was really slow, and they'd run out of menu items and when eventually our starters came they were cold as were a cpuple of pizzas but we were too hungry by then to send them back. Adult food served before the kids which is a particular bugbear of mine. They did take the cold starters off the bill but overall it was all a bit below par. For an established chain on a bank holiday weekend I would expect them to be far better prepared.

The staff are very nice, polite and the service good. Keep getting offer after offer and continue to have a short memory and make the same mistake again and again. It seems they put increasingly fewer ingredients on the pizza. It's really expensive for what it is, even with a two for one once you add the drinks it's lumpy. So many independents which offer so much more, alforno, even zizzi as a chain is much better.

Very attentive staff even though the restaurant was nearly full. All the dishes we ordered were very good.

Llevé a mis dos jóvenes nietas y su madre a mi cena de cumpleaños. Era una excelente comida, excelente servicio, menú de sonido y los niños de 4 y 8 años estaban muy bien atendidos.

No habíamos reservado y era bastante caótico cuando llegamos.

The service was a bit slow and the waiters all seemed new and didn’t know much. Or they just kept on forgetting what I ordered.

Am a fan of Pizza Express, one of the few chains I look forward to visiting. Was in Henley on business and decided to call in for my first visit. Food was served quickly and hot, drinks well-chilled and staff friendly and efficient. Will definitely return.

I popped in to have a bite to eat before shopping and had the Pollo Pesto. It was so delicious and full of flavour. The service was good also, would defiantly come back.

Sadly poor service, slow, consequently a long long wait from start to finish. Food good but spoilt by everything else.

But disappointed today normally good a lot of staff but didn't seem to know what was going on waiter came across for order and music was so loud we had to repeat ourselves ordered pollo pesto al for no no pasta!!! Had to order something else

I love pizza express and have never had cause to complain, until this evening. Henley is my local restaurant and I usually find the staff really friendly and helpful, but today I was really disappointed. I had made a reservation for a party of five and the restaurant was the quietest I’ve ever seen it (maybe five tables in use). There were three waiting staff. We were seated at a table without cutlery and napkins, and with chocolate stains on it from previous diners. After ordering we had to wait over 40 mins for five mains. When we saw a waitress, I said that our food was taking a long time, and her response was, ‘what do you want, a discount?’ I was flabbergasted. I replied, ‘no, just our order’.

Early supper after a weekend away. Staff was slow ever thought the restaurant was empty at 5:30. Food was well prepared and reasonably priced. Will go again....

Firstly the food was cooked really well. One of the best pizza express when it comes to the qualify of food.

Been visiting Pizza Express for as long as I can remember. This particular location in Henley was a first time for us. Popped in Saturday early lunch time. Staff very attentive and polite. Pizza was of course very good. My Sloppy Giuseppe was excellent. We ordered Pasta Bolognese for my son he thought it was delicious. Call me sentimental, but I’m pleased this chain is still on our high streets. Long may it continue!

The food was good, and our waitress friendly and charming. Unfortunately our experience was spoiled with confusion over the vouchers used to pay part of the bill, with one ‘being mislaid’ and then ‘found’ by the staff.

We ate from the special two course menu. Great value as I was able to upgrade my pizza for next to nothing. I went for a large legera with two different types of sausage, chilies, peppers, mozzarella etc etc and of course Chili oil. Great choice. Starters are limited on this menu but I went for my usual tomato and mozzarella salad. Definitely a hit this special menu.

The restaurant was very busy and the service slow. Our garlic bread was burnt and my pizza tasted exactly the same as if I had bough it from a supermarket. In other words, rather tasteless and I only eat 25% of it

Ordered online, picked up at time instructed too, got back to the hotel which was less than a 10min walk. Pizza was uncut, cold and under cooked in the middle. Won’t be returning for a pizza express takeaway!

We have always enjoyed our visits to the Pizza Express in Henley. The menu is good - I particularly like the Pollo Salad - and the staff are always friendly and attentive.

Sin embargo, tuvimos algunos vales Tesco para usar así que fuimos a Pizza Express. Parecía lo suficientemente agradable, pero nos dieron una mesa de ventana, pero en el área pequeña donde el hasta. We enjoyed a very nice lunch. Service was good and the waitress welcoming and polite. Good choice of pizzas, pastas, salads and more. Our food which was pleasantly served quite quickly, was well presented and above all tasted good. The food is reasonably priced and perfectly acceptable for these typical modern restaurant chains, The restaurant itself may not be in the best position in the town but was clean, spacious and perfect for what we wanted.

Picked up some cold pizzas yesterday. Dissapointed... We picked them up at the exact right time that has been confirmed online. We won't order again for take away.

Called up to book a table this afternoon - the lady who answered told us they were very busy and all the tables were booked for this evening at 6.30pm. We wandered into Henley anyway - 5 adults and 6 kids. We popped our head into Pizza Express as we were walking past and there appeared to be six empty tables. I was still standing in the entrance waiting for someone to greet me after five minutes so went looking for a member of staff. I found two female members of staff who looked at one another and then looked at the computer and left me standing in the entrance for ten minutes without any response or hospitality. In the end I just left as I felt the service was non existent and down right rude!

I have to say, in all my travels around the Oxford and Berks regions, Henley is one of my favourites. Sitting on top of the hill is a beautiful chain restaurant, in an even more beautiful old building. Visiting on my own, I was given a choice of tables even though the lovely waitress had told me they were quite busy, my drink came right away with a lovely smile from a tall lovely Hungarian women, my food was brought over by Henry a charming young boy from the local area, I tucked into my leggera padana as it was called with its delightful goats cheese and caramelised onion confit before swiftly drinking my freshly made cappuccino. When the bill came I was made aware of the happy family nature of the restaurant and clearly they work very hard for each other in what seemed to be limited space and equipment. I was offered numerous discounts from the online site which I was helped to find by the nearby table. Left a small donation to gratify the wonderful service and took my travels down to the riverDearest Regards Hillary

Visited at 9:30 on a Saturday evening and we were the only customers in the two-floor restaurant. Staff were pleasant and not surprisingly attentive and the pizzas were good. However the staff started c,earring away outside tables whiskey we were eating, clearly trying to close up early, which was disappointing.

Well done to the multi-national staff in this establishment who gave great, friendly service and put up with undeserved Afro from a customer without lowering their professional standards of customer care.The food is ok, if expensive, but it's the staff I give respect to. Well done girls, keep it up!

Lovely building, with good local artwork on the walls.Very happy with the food, excellent Pizzas, although the garlic bread starter was lacking in garlic! Our waitress was friendly and helpful, and coped well with our various requirements of paying with vouchers and cash.

We visited at 6pm on a Tuesday evening. The food was really quick but it took them absolutely ages to bring the bill to us at the end. My pizza was rubbish, it had virtually no cheese and the salad dressing was also very limited. My friends pizza was burnt to a crisp which they had tried to cover up with salad. Such a shame as I normally love Pizza Express, but the Henley one was disappointing.

Visited on Friday night. Restaurant was full. I ordered a Florentina pizza with soft egg and extra tuna. Fast service and friendly happy staff. What more do you want. Good delicious food and staff happy. No wonder the restaurant was full.

My husband, one year old son and I are here one Saturday lunch in March. We hadn't booked but got there at midday (the place was empty apart from one table). The service was very good from a foreign sounding g girl with glasses. We had a lovely lunch and there was nothing to fault. What you come to expect from a pizza express :)

We all went out for a birthday meal and had to send back some of our meals as it was simply over cooked. Apart from the crispy pizzas the desserts were totally burnt. When I asked the manager why this was the case she mentioned that the dishes were difficult to cook!! The staff were trying to help but simply could not understand or cater to our requests. Not a great experience for a birthday meal!!

We visited pizza express in Henley on Thames on Sunday night. The place was lively. The pizza was perfect, thin base (the way I like it), lots of topping and hot (temp). The wine was cold (the way I like it). The staff were attentive and helpful, couldn't have been better

Stopped in late before closing. Folks were pleasant. Fantastic pizza. Cold beer and warm atmosphere. Highly recommend.

I've lived in Henley for about 2 years and go here fairly regularly. Nothing special but really nice staff and the pizza is always banging

We had a nice meal hear. The food was fresh and pretty tasty. It is not fine dining but good value and is go back. We had 2 kids who also enjoyed their food. Nice service.

Pizza Express is always predictable, but in a good way. The staff did a good job for a big party of us at lunch today, particularly the young lad who looked after us- he was polite, friendly and efficient. The children's food came first and quickly as we asked and all our meals came shortly after, all together as well. Good value, good food and good service.

You know what to expect from Pizza Express. We were not let down. My sister had a discount card which made the lunch more economical. Will visit again when next in town.

Always excellent. Totally reliable, especially with children and teens as pizza is always a hit. So much more authentic than other pizza chains.

The meal was rated highly, by all four of us, complimentary bottle of wine, great. The restaurant could have been a bit warmer. Last Friday, 2nd December, was very, very cold.

As usual I had a great lunch with my daughter. However I'm sure they have reduced the size of the child pizza. It's now disappointingly small. Time to move to a proper pizza I think

Pizza Express has to be the best pizza in town by a long way. It is consistently excellent, and the staff are lovely. They remember our order on every visit (although this is very frequently!), and are always attentive without being annoying. You don't get asked if everything is ok time after time after time!The only down side is that this branch of Pizza Express is one of their trial sites for new menus, so a load of our favorites have disappeared from the menu recently. Four of us went a couple of weeks ago and not one of us wanted anything from their "test" menu. Luckily the staff and chefs are happy to make the dishes that have vanished. According to their Head Office they shouldn't be doing that as it will alter the data gained from this test site! I don't really care about your data... Was my birthday and wanted to continue the 28yr tradition and eat an American Hot on my birthday, not about to invite all my family and friends this year, nor the kids as they eat a lot more now and we thought that PE had added service charge automatically. What a difference good service makes. I've not been to a Pizza Express for years. It was a bank holiday evening and a family birthday. We wanted somewhere for a quick dinner . Pizza Express was perfect.The food was fine - just as expected, the service was better. Attentive and thoughtful. Happy to recreate a pizza from yesteryear for my wife and she even picked up that it was her birthday. We asked for the bill without dessert and a complimentary birthday pud was delivered. Unexpected but lovely. We had a voucher for 30% off food - the code didn't work, but they accepted it anyway.If that is standard Pizza Express service, then we'll done.

Ordered the 'thin crust' (extra 1.70 GBP) with prosciutto, mushrooms, black olives, cheese.....The reason I ordered this one was because it was the only one listed with a meat and mushrooms.It came on a plate too small to hold it. It was unsliced. I saw no mushrooms. I saw sparcely place pieces of meat. I saw six olives strategically spaced.the was next to no mozzarella. The crust (if you call it such) was uncooked.I had one small piece from the centre area and called the manager and told him that this was the worst attempt at a 'pizza' I had ever seen.I'm Canadian . I've eaten good pizzas. this was pure crap.I paid for my wife's 5 GBP salad and left. It too was disgustingly small. Barely enough lettuce to cover the tiny plate it was served on.What a disappointing outing in Henley-on-Thames. Avoid this place at all costs.

Still love this place. Last night was the best Pianta I've ever had, and I've had a lot! I'm just a bit sad that it is now made on special request rather than being on the standard menu. This is a backward step Pizza Express as veganism is being considered by your competitors as being more mainstream. Staff, as ever, were friendly and helpful. Love this place whether it's a meal out with hubby, couples or girly chums.
