My daughter and I had dinner before going to the theatre. The service was excellent and the food was good too. The waiter could not have been more attentive without being intrusive. Top marks to him. Sorry I did not get his name otherwise I could have given him a personal mention.

We dined here and took advantage of a 3 courses for £12.95 offer. We have a reservation as I thought it would be busy being a saturday night but it wasn't. The service was good initially however there were long waits between courses. It was clear they were understaffed but management didn't seem to be helping much. We were in there for about 1 hour and 35 minutes which was far too long in my opinion. The food was good and they always have good offers on but maybe avoid this restaurant and go to one of the other 2 pizza express restaurants in Aberdeen. We were sat in a glass area and the view was of bins and a fire escape.

Pizza Express in Belmont Street, Aberdeen serves a useful function, and particularly for cinema goers keen to help the Belmont Cinema next door stay in business. It offers a reasonable range of pizzas which look most attractive when they arrive at the table and which taste as good as they look. The accompanying glasses of wine are a touch pricey, but at least they are not bottom of the range when it comes to quality. We tend to go to Pizza Express before heading to the cinema rather than afterwards, so we always have a film to catch. What for my wife and I marks this Pizza Express out from some of its competitors is the quality of the service. For our most recent visit we were served by Hannah. She came across as well trained. She knew the products well, answered our queries easily, and made no problem of anything. At this establishment we have always, always been able to be through the place in an hour if need be, and the pizzas are consistently good, freshly cooked and attractively presented. They are starting to seem a touch pricey, but we like the premises and the location suits us ideally, being handy for buses and also for the theatre as well as the cinema. We have not had a bad experience there ever, and will stick with it for as long as such is the case.

I went to Pizza Express for lunch with my friends on a busy Saturday afternoon during the Christmas rush. We had pasta and lasagne dishes which were really good. Service was fast, attentive and very helpful. On the downside, I felt the place lacking in atmosphere and slightly noisy. I would not recommend the corner table beside the window, because it was slightly draughty (view not great) and one of us had to sit squeezed in beside a pillar and the bar. Therefore overall rating only average. On the upside, we had vouchers: a starter and a main for £9.95, chosen from several menu options.

First time visiting this Pizza Express. My boyfriend can't eat dairy, so he was very happy that there is a vegan pizza on offer. I'm vegetarian myself and I found the selection quite good. The food was really tasty too, including the desserts - I got the salted caramel profiteroles, although it was a small portion with only 3 profiteroles. The downside is that the dessert menu doesn't indicate whether a dessert is vegan or just vegetarian. Our server Chris was very friendly and attentive throughout our visit. We also got some vouchers with our bill, so we'll likely be back to taste the new summer menu.

We called at the restaurant on two occasions during our visit to Aberdeen. The front is deceptive as there is not much to see through the doors. The restaurant is located on the first floor. Each time we went, it was very busy. Although we had not booked, the staff managed to find us a table. At certain times in the evening, it can be busy, so I guess it’s best to book a table. The staff were polite and helpful. The food was good and nicely presented. Better still if you can manage to get a 25% discount voucher on line!

Visited here on a very very quiet Tuesday night (03/01/17). Had booked a table for 3 for 630pm. Arrived just before hand and stood at the desk waiting for at least 10 minutes until a waiter took note and told us we would be seated in a few minutes. A lady then approached who I can only assume was a manager/supervisor due to her lack of uniform. She seemed disgruntled and did not really welcome us. She then told us she would have to go clean our table even though we had booked and the restaurant had only 2 other tables in with 2 staff members which in my opinion could be easily managed!! When we finally got sat down, which was a table right in the corner next to the drinks fridges, we were asked if we wanted some drinks. The lady started preparing the drinks, and halfway through she approached the waiter who was beginning to clear all the dirty tables (however, little did we know these tables would remain dirty for the whole 1.5/2 hours we spent in the place). Although I could not hear what she said, she did point over to our table as if she wanted him to come and serve us. She then stormed out of the room through a door and appeared again 10 minutes later to finish our drinks order (a grand total of three drinks!!!!)When she brought the tray over, she apologised by saying she'd had a "long day", which is no excuse in the restaurant industry, especially when there was a maximum of 4 tables at one time that whole evening! We ordered food and waited patiently, still no action from either staff members to clean or tidy any part of the restaurant. I was almost tempted myself to get up and do it!! It was just shocking. I work in restaurants and bars myself and I do not know any member of staff I have ever worked with who would even dare to think they could get away with that! It could have taken 5 minutes to clear the tables and wipe them down!! It was not a pleasant experience. The food was average, my pizza fairly cold, so I did not finish..however I saw complaining as being quite pointless due to what we had already experienced. For the rest of the evening from before we had received our food until we left, the lady had disappeared and it was only the waiter who was on the floor. Maybe it had been a hard or busy day, but it was certainly no excuse for the service and attitude we experienced. Belmont Street Pizza Express need to get some tips from the amazing servers at the Union Street Branch! Such a let down to the company. I warn people to only go here if you expect terrible service!!!!!

I've eaten on and off at Pizza Express restaurants around the UK for getting on for 30 years because they tend to be a cut above most chains with decent service, consistently reliable and good food, and a lack of pretentious nonsense. However, my family and I were in for a shock when we had lunch at the Belmont Street restaurant yesterday. We had a table booked for 12.45pm and arrived on time, with the drinks and food orders taken quickly, and the drinks and starter arriving promptly. Then we waited, and waited, and waited. Eventually, our waiter said "your order is in the oven and will be 5-7 minutes". A further 15 minutes passed, and then our main courses finally arrived—just after 1.45pm and an hour after we arrived. Yes, the food was good and my elderly father, not a fan of "fussy food" declared himself particularly happy with the classic American, but an hour's wait for the main courses to arrive? Fortunately, we didn't have specific post-lunch plans but we still lost a big chunk of the afternoon due to a much delayed lunch. Oh, and it's not possibly to leave feedback directly with Pizza Express via their website withut an "invitation" code printed on the receipt–ours was illegible and I was unable to tell Pizza Express what I think. Well, everyone will know now.

I was here at the weekend in a group of 9. We booked it the week before and they told us we could have the Christmas deal which was £10.95 per person for 2 courses plus a free pudding so we paid a £45 deposit. We were asked to pre-order our starters before the day so we sent an email prior to the table booking. We arrived and we got seated upstairs which wasn't that busy. We ordered drinks and we were told they had no vodka and no malibu so my friend had to order a drink that she didn't particularly want, however it never came and we had to ask for it again. When the other drinks arrived 2 of the glasses were very dirty so we had to ask for clean ones. The waiter came over to tell us they had lost our starter order so we had to order again, which defeats the purpose of asking us to pre-order! Our starter plates were not cleared away before our main courses arrived so the waitresses were rushing around trying to clear when the food was coming out. When it came to pudding we ordered and the waitress came back to tell us there was no vanilla ice cream so she offered us a few alternatives, one of these being salted caramel which one of my friends ordered. The waitress came out with her pudding and said that they don't actually have salted caramel so they just gave her chocolate ice cream without asking her.We then asked for the bill and it was wrong so we explained that we had the £10.95 Christmas deal and we had already paid £45. We were then told that that deal was last years deal and they accused us of not paying a deposit. Luckily we had a receipt to prove. When i go out for meals i am not one to complain because i used to work in catering and i understand completely but i just cant believe how much went wrong! I think the staff did not handle the situation well at allOverall i think the service was very unprofessional and we will not be returning any time in the near future.

My wife had the gluten free pizza and I had the Calzone which was excellent. The food came really quickly as well. We had ordered a bottle of Chardonnay and without hesitation we started drinking the wine. My husband and I had booked a table tonight at pizza express Belmont street to dine with the kids post movie. Our kids are 3 and 5. Despite the fact that the restaurant was far from full, it took forever to be served. You would expect that with young kids they would make an effort but that was almost the reverse. One of the waiters kept on walking past our table and ignored each time the empty plates. The manager was in the room bit didn't make more efforts. We were even served our desserts with the pizza plates still on the tables and left there. It's been a while since I had been so poorly treated. When there is not much happening in the restaurant you would expect to be on top of this instead of the reverse. I'll definitely not return in this one.

It was terrible service! Outside we saw an ad saying 2 courses meal for £9.95. After we have been shown to our table we asked server about 2 course deal and set menu was given without hesitation or second thought. I had pizza for my main course and it was really soggy and lacked flavour. After our meal and desserts we asked for our bill and we saw that every single item was charged as individual item. When we questioned our waiter about t he just abruptly replied that we must have a voucher for 2 course deal (not a single time mentioned before!). We explained that no such information was given and that previous server served us without questioning anything. After consulting with manager server applied discount, but he didint apologise for mistakes, his or others'. He just told us we need to have voucher next time. apologise or compensation for that cuz it was really horribal.

Took my daughter and her 2 small children (3 & 1 yrs old) for lunch. Ordered starters as soon as we sat down so that the little people did not have to wait too long. The starters along with drinks came quite quickly however there was then an approx. 30 minute gap before a waiter came to say that our main course would be ready in a few minutes. After about another 10 minutes with no sign of food I questioned the waiter and it became clear that in fact our food was nowhere near being ready (we ordered pizzas not some fine dining experience !!!). By this time my daughter was only minutes away from an opticians appointment next door and the little people were at the limit of how long they could be expected to sit at a table watching the world go by. I explained to the waiter that we were leaving and to give me the bill for what we had actually had. He called over the manager who, looking totally indifferent to the poor service, told the waiter to cancel off all charges and then walked away without a glance or explanation to us. I don't normally bother posting negative reviews about anything and in fact would not in this instance if a very similar had not happened to my daughter and her friend when they were (trying to) have lunch in the other PizzaExpress restaurant in Aberdeen (Union Square). After this second poor experience in such a short time period I posted a complaint on the PizzaExpress web site. This communication was acknowledged by return e-mail however that was 11 days ago without any further response from their Customer Experience Team so I guess this indifference to their customers is company wide. Fortunately there is plenty of choice out there on the high street so we can all respond to such service appropriately.

Pizza Express is my 'go to' chain restaurant where normally the standard is consistent whichever location you go to. However, not this time. Long wait for the food. When the food finally came the pasta portion was half the size of the portion we received a couple of weeks ago in a Pizza Express elsewhere. Would maybe be enough for a toddler but not a 6 year old. Topping on one of the adult pizzas was also not as generous as usual and my pizza was sailing in oil. Will choose either Union Square or Union Street next time. Really disappointed.

Arriving in Aberdeen in a hailstorm, we found our way to Belmont Street Pizza Express, and found that the meal was as good as we have had in others in the chain. It would have been nice to have been offered the discount special offers at the start of the meal, and not when we were ready to order. I had an unfortunate starter, served in a plate that the staff called "old" and I called "dirty" The replacement was provided quickly. So either get new dishes, or get a better dishwasher. Meanwhile tables were filling up, and the staff were looking overworked. I would hate to see this place full. Went in for dinner last night with my boyfriend (it was my birthday) and it was a nightmare.First of all, our check got lost so we had to reorder after about 45 mins of being seated. Then when it came, the order was completely wrong. However, as a restaurant manager myself, I do not blame the girl who served us. She was completely rushed off her feet as she seemed to have the entire restaurant to wait by herself so its no wonder that mistakes were made. There was one other girl on (I'm assuming the supervisor or something but could be wrong) who was basically doing nothing to help. This girl (the one I thought was supervisor) served us our starters and when I said "we've been waiting about an hour for our starters" she replied "oh I didn't know" no apology or anything... I've waitressed, been supervisor and been a manager and it doesn't take much to realise that a table have been in for almost an hour and haven't been served. If you're walking around the restaurant, you can clearly see whether people have been served or not. And if you do spot a table who have been waiting too long, the first thing you do is ask the kitchen how much longer. I think its ridiculous. They had just one girl serving about 25 covers at once with the supervisor literally doing nothing. She was polishing cutlery as far as I could tell. I don't know how pizza express do things but in my experience waitressing has always been a team effort and its so important to communicate with each other & the kitchen about what's going on front of house. I was really disappointed and I felt so sorry for the poor girl who was serving us. I don't blame her at all for this - in fact, her service was much better than the other girls as she was polite and apologetic about everything. It was a real shame and we won't be going back.

You get a good pizza and there are a few other good options on the menu. Especially good as they are very accommodating for those who have dietary requirements. Good service, good place. Family friendly.

Horrible frozen food served on greasy tables. I thought a "munchy box" would be delightful but as I was sober it wasn't. Unbelievably bad food.

It's 6pm on a Tuesday, walked into this pizza express. Tables were 30percent occupied and the waitress greeted me and ask me for how many. I said table for one and she said no. I said why and she responded that the kitchen cannot cope. So why open for business, and ask me how many tables/chairs I need when u cannot even serve for one? I do not understand? Not coming back here again!

We regularly go to Pizza Express and always enjoy the food but I have noticed recently that there seems to be a lack of servers in the restaurant so that the service can often be very slow. The servers do their best to work as quickly as possible but I believe you need more staff on!

I go to pizza restaurants for fab pizzas, the ones we we served were not that tasty and over cooked, which most were we noticed. The air conditioning made the area we sat in chilly even though it was turned down slightly. Compared to other pizza express restaurants we have visited throughout the uk this one didn't cut it. Staff were ok not what I would call pleasant.

Visited for family meal. Very helpful staff on arrival made us feel very welcome. Plenty to keep kids amused with colouring, etc. Very quick service considering time and being busy. Food was excellent throughout and service was very good. Had a voucher through Tesco club card so even more value for money. Very enjoyable experience.

Booked a table before a show and it took so long that we were late for the show. Food was lovely. Antipasti to start and a spicy pizza which were both yummy. My partner had the calzone which had hardly any filling in it. Drinks took ages to come. Main course arrived without cutlery so waited another 5 minutes to get it. Bill took ages to come. Waiters cleaning tables instead of assisting customers. I wont be rushing back.

If you like your restaurants cold, brightly lit from overhead and cacophonously noisy, then Pizza Express Aberdeen is the place for you! Food better than average, if they actually have your menu choice in stock, which, judging by our experience, would be about a 50% chance. Service ok. Overall underwhelming - I would not rush back.

Pizza Express is a chain so the food and atmosphere should be the same in each. Rather boring but at least you know what you should be getting. On three separate occasions i have found Belmont Street's one to be loud, echo-ey and uncomfortable and the staff to be grumpy.

Came here for a pre-theatre dinner with friends on a Friday. Staff were slow to take our drinks order, and had to be prompted to take our food order. We all ordered pizzas and it took over half an hour to arrive. What did arrive was really disappointing, the romana style pizza is paper thin and tough with meagre toppings and a scraping of tomato based sauce which was really lacking in flavour and crying out for some oregano, garlic and black pepper. My four seasons pizza was very poor, the mushroom quarter had literally one mushroom sliced on it, the anchovy and caper quarter had literally 2 anchovies and a few olives, the pepperoni quarter had a reasonable covering of sliced pepperoni, and the mozarella quarter did actually have a covering of cheese. However, overall it was quite tasteless due to the lack of toppings and the bland scraping of tomato base. After waiting for half an hour this was very disappointing, particularly since mine also had some inedible scorched black parts on it. Didn't send it back as we had to get to the theatre, and there seemed to be quite a few other irate customers complaining who were not making much headway with staff. I actually left still hungry as the pizza was so meagre! The red abruzzo house wine by the glass was very poor, and tasted mostly of tannin and vinegar. All in all, if you want a decent pizza with decent service then go elsewhere.

You know sometimes you just want something simple and comforting, that you have no expectations of and that is quick and convienient. Before heading to the HMT Aberdeen this restraunt fits the bill, but also surprises. Yes it's a formulaic menu, yes - the food is as expected, good quality, tasty and quickly served. Where this Pizza Express stands out is the staff, they are simply brilliant, attentive, pleasant and fun. If you get a chance and are looking for a tasty bite without the pretentious eatery feel, try this place out.

We visit this restaurant regularly after the cinema, food is usually good although service can be variable. As a party of 6 last night we were told by a very disinterested waitress that they had no milk so we couldn't have coffees etc. how ridiculous when there's a Sainsburys Express less than 2 minutes away? When we pointed this out, the waitress claimed that "she was only the waitress" and it wasn't her problem. We solved the problem by returning to the cinema next door and buying a cup of milk for £1.15! Pizza Express needs to try harder!

Ordered pizza and garlic bread and was told it would be ready for collection in 10 minutes. I turned up, and whilst the waitress was polite and friendly, I was told it was not ready and would have to wait. I waited a further 10 minutes before my order was ready with no apology for the lateness. When I got home and opened it up ready to dig in I discovered the pizza was missing the tomato sauce from the base (how can you miss this out?!?) and the toppings were seriously lacking. The garlic bread had no garlic butter at all, so it was basically just bread!I guess this is what happen when you pay the staff peanuts... avoid this place.

My sister and I had a planned half day from work to go for lunch to celebrate her birthday, albeit belatedly. We were too late to use the free Prosecco voucher, but there was a deal for 2 courses for £11.95 so decided that would be fine. We ordered our Prosecco and tap water, which both arrived reasonably promptly. The fizz was chilled, unlike the water which was lukewarm. Our food was ordered, dough balls followed by Leggara pizzas. The restaurant was quiet (Friday lunchtime). Our starters were perfect. Our main courses arrived, again in a reasonable time, except one was the wrong pizza. So I'm left eating my pizza on my own while my sister waits for her pizza to be remade. Pizzas were demolished and plates removed. We declined dessert , happy to be looking out the window, watching summer turn to autumn and finishing our Prosecco. Once drink was finished, we requested the bill and glancing at it, agreed roughly with the total and handed over the cash. We even added a tip, which considering we'd received an incorrect item, was quite generous of us!The waitress then returned with our payment stating that she'd given us the bill for another table, possibly the only other one occupied at the time and she would return with the correct bill. We must have waited about 10 minutes and all we could see were the waitress and, I assume, duty manager tapping away at the screen of the till. How difficult is it to make up a bill? Our patience was wearing thin so we collected our belongings and headed over to the till to ask for confirmation of how much the Prosecco was so that we could just leave the right money. My sister then mentioned that she'd received the wrong order and we were then asked to just pay for the Prosecco. I'm trying to think back as to whether we had an apology at that point but I really am not sure. All in all, we enjoyed our food, but the service was extremely poor and this was when the restaurant was quiet. I dread to think how it would be if it was busy. I will visit Pizza Express again, but not this branch.

First time to this Pizza Express. We chose it due to it's location as we were going to see a show at HMT. Once you find it and enter, you have to figure out is it upstairs of downstairs you need to go. Once we worked that out, it's upstairs btw, then we were greeted and shown to our table, we had pre-booked. Our waiter was very tenancious and we felt rushed into making a decision on what we wanted to order.Starters were ok, nothing much to say about this. Mains were ok, although I am sure the risotto portion size has been drastically reduced. We shared a desert, again ok.We did feel very rushed throughout and had to ask where the toilets were as there appeared to be no signage at all.The restaurant was very noisy throughout, so not the place to go if you are after a romantic meal :)

The restaurant is not large and has two areas, one that is light and airy (on the right as you enter the first floor). The paintwork is a little tired, probably due to the popularity and number of visitors. There is a lift that serves the first floor restaurant and the basement where the toilets are.

You know what to expect when you choose a Pizza Express. Several visitors were obviously unlucky and went on a bad day by chance. Sorry, but we could not fault the staff or the food. Pretty quick service (with a smile!) on a Sunday lunch time too. Clearly very popular, as you often need to make a reservation we gathered. Would return for sure.

I don't think I have ever received such awful customer service from a chain restaurant. We got into the restaurant and there were only two other tables in the restaurant. We sat for half an hour with no contact from any server, before someone came up and asked if we wanted to order. We ordered food and drinks together. The starter came and this was actually very nice, however after we finished we sat for another 20 minutes with our empty plates. Then the KITCHEN STAFF brought over our main courses, having not cleared our starter plates so we had to juggle plates around the table. Two of our party had ordered a pizza with spinach, and who we assumed to be the duty manager had come up to tell us that for our 'freshly made' pizza there was no FROZEN spinach left, so were we okay with fresh? Of course yes, however when it came it was just placed on top of the pizza, not wilted or cooked on the pizza at all. One of the others in our party ordered a pizza with tomatoes, basil and mozzarella. All three of those toppings came cold from the fridge and uncooked, again just placed on the cooked pizza base. By the time we were eating our main course only one other table remained in the restaurant, however the one server left seemed more intent on cleaning down fridges than asking how our food was/clearing our tables/doing any check backs whatsoever. We waited another 20 minutes for/to pay the bill, while the server made orange squash and desserts for himself and other members of staff, and was also eating whilst on the floor. All in all, awful service and really poor turn out overall for a pizza express chain. So disappointed, the server was shocking and clearly did not want to be there. This particular restaurant will not be getting our business again.

Dined here whilst on business was very quiet and the quality of the food explains it. I had mushroom bruschetta which was light on mushrooms served on a calzone not bloomer bread and swimming in balsamic vinegar then i had the worst risotto i ever tasted it was sooo salty and the hamhock non existant seems restautants serve up pulled meat now yo get away with skimping on the portions. On a plus note the coffee was ok. Cant recommend this place but seems a distinct lack of independant restaurants in the vicinty.

Easter Sunday teatime and restaurant was quiet, oh dear first warning! Nadine the waitress was efficient enough but felt sorry for the girl as the menu was nothing startling and only one meat lasagne left which to be honest was pretty uninspiring and should have been binned! Children opted for adult menu but even then were hard pushed to get their choice. Second choice of salad came with an abundance of lettuce but only tiny dish of dressing so sorry not impressed. Risotto lacked flavour so once again disappointing. Pizzas were fine and dandy thankfully so meal out was not total disaster. Final bad point was kitchen staff coming through restaurant in a disgusting filthy state which makes you wonder state of kitchen! Very overpriced restaurant and far better places to visit when in Aberdeen. Not to be recommended.

We ate here, by coincidence, on two consecutive evenings. The first time, we decided to try non-pizza for a change, choosing risotto and veggie lasagne. The lasagne was good - full of flavours and a decent portion. We were a bit underwhelmed by the risotto, however - a child's portion of rice (and not the creamy arborio type, either) and a few peas and slices of tasteless ham - you really expect more for the £11 charged for this. Nevertheless, we have enjoyed PE in the past, so the following night we returned, choosing classic pizzas instead, the fiorentina and the four seasons. Both of these were terrific, perfectly cooked, with lots of topping, including the extra anchovies I asked for. The lesson is really that if you go to Pizza Express you should order pizza! The rest of the place works well - friendly staff, a nice buzz to the place, and an excellent city centre location.

I am unsure what has happened here but the service has really gone downhill. This used to be a great restaurant for central, easy dining. Be prepared to wait hours for average food and be greeted by waiting staff who couldn't care less if you were there or not. Twice I had to get up to go and find someone to take an order... even though there were four staff members on their break a few tables down. The food was nice as usual (with the exception of the flavourless prawn starter) but the staff and service are seriously lacking and completely let it down.

Ordered drinks and they arrived 10 mins later when they took our food menu. And we waited and we waited and we waited. approximately 35 minutes passed before food delivered to our table with no apology. My Romana pizza supposed to be thin / crispy and spicy was thin / stodgy and bland. No one came over to ask about how our meal was. We had then to sit with our dirty plates on the table for another 10 mins before just asking for the bill. They were not busy and appeared to have enough staff in the kitchen. I recently had the misfortune of dining experience here, and it was, without a doubt, the worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant. The food portions were shockingly small, and the taste was subpar. To add insult to injury, the restaurant's "2 courses for £24" offer was misleading. The staff failed to communicate the exceptions and conditions attached to the deal, leading to confusion and an unexpected total bill of £30. Unfortunately, I would not recommend this to anyone. The combination of poor food quality, inadequate portion sizes, and deceptive marketing practices makes it a place to avoid. *Rating:* 1/5 stars
