Pizza Express in Newcastle upon Tyne

My mum has dietary restrictions so can only have the Niçoise salad, they didn’t have any eggs which seemed weird. Staff were nice about it though. Just seems weird not to have eggs! Also portion sizes have gone down I swear

Very quiet at lunchtime, hence limited atmosphere. Staff excellent, especially with communication once they were advised I was profoundly deaf. Polenta chips excellent (and quite a treat for us). Calzone probably the best I have had, plenty of flavour, a bit on the hot side for my taste but I would order again. Lasagne okay taste-wise but lacking in texture. We will return.

Overall a good experience, well decorated with nice vibes. Accommodating and friendly staff. Gluten free options overall were good with a wide selection, however pizza was a bit of a let down, due to a lack of flavour/cheese, as well as the pricing.

Visited to take advantage of the £1 deal on pizzas - although we were seated and service was friendly, it wasn’t overly helpful. Prices for the size and quality of pizza are totally disproportionate, as well as watered down cocktails. No rush to return.

Place not busy, but took an age and a prompt for order to be taken. Other tables waiting were not being served either...When food finally arrived 'posh' salad was mostly green leaves NONE of the 2 types of tomatoes promised! Spinach Cannelloni was a white sauce wash of slop, only pizza was OK. Manager only apologised when confronted, with the excuse waitress was new (surely it her job to mentor, guide, supervise new staff!!!)...all visitors seemed to be suffering the same. GIVE IT A MISS

I've waited 2 and a half hours and rang the resteraunt. turns out the couriers steal the food. I want a FULL refund. assuming there are cameras, I will go over tomorrow and find out how this has happened. thats my full refund plus the £10 composition I used up. coincidence?!...

waited over an hour and a half for food never ever waited that long on any order. Disgraceful. I will not be ordering from here again.

Went to pizza express as it’s all very standard and you know what you are getting. Of 3 eating, 2 had to send food back (one pizza swimming in tomato sauce, and a grain bowl with no grains). Then the lunchtime offer wasn’t applied to the bill. One waitress was trying to do her job well, it’s a shame that the others just don’t seem to know how to do theirs

Had a really good service prompt, especially from Jake - food was hot tasty and it was overall enjoyable evening. Clearly previous guests haven’t felt the same way, but I can only view my own personal experience. I would have no problem going back again.

This is a fantastic restaurant in Eldon Square, Ellie was our waitress and she went over and above to make our evening memorable especially as it was my Grandson’s birthday - Thank you Ellie for your excellent service and attention to detail.

Probably the best pizza I had in the UK so far. Nice waiters as well.

Said the order was delivered but no one turned up. Called the restaurant and they said it’s just east problem. Could not get in touch with just eat and can not get a refund. Will use Uber now and will certainly never order from pizza express.

Ordered here a few months ago - the restaurant was quiet as it was early afternoon, and the restaurant, being in a shopping centre, seemed a little out of place next to a Greggs, though next to two cafes, and also because for the kind of place that I expect would open late, it doesn't seem like it would. The restaurant was very open plan, rather than sectioned - almost like burger king, though for the price I was paying, I expected much better quality. However, since I was ordering to collect, this did not bother me. The service was great, but the food was not as high quality, as compared to Durham Pizza Express.

Took ages to get food. Food was dry and not cooked well and my friend found something in her food. Worst service I have ever experienced.

If you are planning to shut down, please go ahead, this restaurant has been dragged down to the ground.. awful, food? Cold, dry and stingy

When ordering food I asked about whether the burn ends pizza was spicy as I can't tolerate anything spicy - the waitress checked with the chef and told me it wasn't at all spicy. On tasting the food I actually found it quite spicy and my lips went numb. Also, I wouldn't class it as "burnt ends", just beef. Fortunately this was only half of my pizza. Nobody asked if the food was OK which should be standard practice, especially if someone has made a query while ordering. I finished my meal before my wife and someone tried to take my plate away even after I pointed out that my wife was still eating - this is really bad form for waiting. The pizzas are a good size - not too big to feel stuffed but big enough to fill you. As usual, deserts are pricey for what they are, although we did enjoy them.

We went there today for my sons 12th birthday had a lovely meal and they gave my son a fantastic birthday present we were so shocked thankyou hes always loved pizza express since he had a birthday present there when he was 7 xx

The food when it came was good but we waited a long time (ordered 13.39, delivered 14.10) for it and this made us late for our next appointment. The staff were polite and embarrassed at having to keep us waiting.

Here recently with 7 kids! The staff made it so easy and the food was great. Nothing was a bother and service was prompt without being pushy. Thank you 👍

my order is missing my drink, the butter for the dough balls and the salad dressing for the salad

Food was nice but nothing outstanding, to say we were one of only a few people in there the wait was very long. Service was poor, staff looked miserable and like they didn’t want to be there. The most disturbing thing however was an open Tupperware box filled with soggy prawns that looked inedible not stored in a fridge just on a counter for all customers to see.

No drinks were delivered even though paid for

I stopped by for lunch while I was at work. The restaurant was chosen by a local because he had an upcoming meeting and wanted to leave early. It was certainly fast. The taste was delicious, so I wanted to eat slowly. I think it would be convenient if it was nearby.

Went to Pizza Express Newcastle yesterday and was greeted by the staff Reece when entered. Wanted to thank for the great service while in the restaurant.

We had lasagne it tasted lovely but I think they forgot to put the mince in you could play spot the mince

Extremely disappointed 😞 Service was absolutely appalling only plus point was food. Reasonable. Although Garlic prawn pizza was devoid of any trace of garlic. Arrived at booking time of 5.30Pm. Starters served reasonably quickly however seemingly overlooked or just missed by staff until we reminded staff. Mains eventually served at 6.30pm.

Was late, then they changed the time after an hour. It was cold when it arrived

The food was great. Very tasty and hot. Service not so much. I went on a Saturday, pre booked a table. I was running late about 10 minutes could not get an uber for trying. Tried calling the restaurant to let them know about 15 mins before my booking, called multiple times could not get through. Table was still there when i got there however we were located right near the cashier and fridges so staff constantly next to us restocking and gossiping. Ordered food at 18:00 food didnt arrive until 18:57. No one told us they were running late or food would arrive a little later than usual. If I was told it would be an hour until the pizza's would arrive i wouldn't have stayed as i had another event to go to which i was late for. Communication could be better. I had to wave a staff member down after waiting 45 minutes to ask how long it would be.

Well food was great, but the staff was horrible. She pretended like she cannot understand me when I asked to be seated at a table for two. After I repeated it 5 times, she gave us a table with a weird eyeroll. Anyway, food was good but staff was very rude

Delivery was delayed 15 minutes and food arrived cold. Wouldn’t order again.

Food was ice cold and missing one of the additional toppings I ordered. Expensive pizza, nice flavour but not worth the effort and price. Not happy at all.

I thought it was the longest waiting time I have ever had, there were only tow tables served and us. The pizza is not as expected, not worth the time nor the money.

Called here on Saturday 06/02/2024. To say the least we were very very disappointed. Requested water and a Pepperoni Pizza The water was warm and the pizza we paid £13.45 for was just not worth the money!!! I wouldn't like to say what it was really worth!!! A very dissatisfied couple who will never be going back!!

Only 4 out of 5 as it was very quiet tonight. Lovely gluten free pizza for me though. Happy belly.

We had a table booked for 8 people and upon arrival were informed that there may be a longer than normal wait for food as they were busy. Now this was a Saturday afternoon 3 weeks before Christmas in the city centre, I don't work in the hospitality industry, but I'd assume that anyone that does would also realise it would be busy and staff the restaurant accordingly. It appears there is seating for approximately 120 people, at most during the time we were in they were 70% full. So not rushed off their feet busy. We informed the staff that we had tickets booked for an event 90 minutes later, and we're assured that would be fine. Upon ordering 2 of the party wanted blackcurrant and water; there was no blackcurrant, so they settled for orange. 1 person ordered a pizza which consists of ham and olives, there were no olives, so settled on a pepperoni pizza. 30 minutes or so in, the children's starters arrived, all were enjoyed. 60 minutes in after asking if the food would be much longer as we were now getting closer to having to leave we were informed that there was no pulled pork for the special edition Christmas pizza, so obviously hadn't even started cooking it, again settled for a pepperoni pizza, we were told it would be 5 minutes. 15 minutes later our pizzas eventually arrived without any of the sides we had ordered, so after asking for them to be removed from our bill we all inhaled our pizzas and left 5 minutes after the event we were attending had started. Luckily we were allowed in, but not a very enjoyable experience rushing around. I must add, the young lady that served us was nothing but lovely, none of this was her fault, she was looking after all of the tables with a smile on her face. She was most apologetic and kept chasing our food up. The 2 other older women that appeared once to help deliver an order to a neighbouring table were anything but. The food was as expected, no complaints there. I will be at a pizza express again in the future, but probably not this one, certainly not in the near future.

Booked a table for 1:30 group of 7. Sat upstairs. Ordered food and 2 pints and three kids juice. Kids dough balls arrived after around 20 mins. Waited until 2.40 and still no food. Had to leave to be at the pantomime. No apologise. We paid for drinks £24 wow! And the lady took off the dough balls. Really put a dampener on our long awaited family day out.

Listen to the other reviews. DO NOT ORDER. Honestly the biggest waste of our time. Delivered the wrong order, so we rang the restaurant and they said they’d deal with it and get back to us. We waited 20 mins then rang again and no one answered. Over an hour later we still have no food and there’s still no answer from the restaurant.

Horrendous service, we received thewrong takeaway order and so rang up to let the restaurant know. They said they'd remake the pizzas we did order and send them back out. The new pizzas never arrived and we tried to ring the restaurant for over an hour and nobody answered the phone, they just left it to ring out. So disappointed and would recommend that people don't order from here in future, you'll just end up annoyed and ignored.

Average pizza and a portion of chips comprised of 10 in total for £5.29 so 52p per chip ridiculous pricing.

Missing two of my five items purchased

Didn’t even arrive, driver was very very rude. Told me he would not deliver to my address, and left my pizzas 10 minutes away.

Absolute travesty of an experience. Ordered two pizzas and two dough balls. One of each was supposed to be gluten free. Two dough balls arrived incorrectly labelled (the non gluten free ones marked as gluten free, a major allergy risk). One pizza was completely missing. The pizza that did arrive was wrong, and was incorrectly labelled gluten free with a wheat filled base. Appalling breach of basic food safety and allergen awareness, alongside terrible service only receiving 75% of the order.

The order never turned up. Frustrating but comical really. You can’t call the restaurant as it goes to two automated options. One of these was to book a table. Cause they’ve wasted my time I thought I’d waste theirs. Someone called from the restaurant on their personal number to tell me to stop booking tables under ‘STILLWAITING’ and ‘INCOMPETENT’. Clearly the other poor reviews are something to consider. I expect my £27.13 back. Stupid fruitloops.

My family and I ate at this branch of Pizza Express whilst staying over in Newcastle for the night en route further north. We ate on a sunny Thursday evening, whilst the restaurant was quite quiet, the service and food was spot on!

Top class food and great service with a smile too couldn't fault our visit will be back soon too

Went for my birthday with my family last night. The waitress we had was lovely. Nothing was a bother and she was friendly and engaging. We had just gone without booking so told from outset wait time which we were fine with...at least she informed us upfront. We had a nice meal and the kids had colouring pens to keep them amused. I enjoyed my pizza.

I love Pizza Express but the Newcastle branch had thr heating on what felt like 45 degrees. It was awful. Service was exceptional as was the food. Just chill out on the heating, it was like eating inside the pizza ovens.

App said it was delivered. No phone call from delivery person. Tried to call restaurant with no answer. No way to contact just eat. Thanks lads, £100 down the drain with people still waiting for food.

Having spent a day in August taking the grandchildren around the museums of Newcastle, we were really hungry. My grandchildren love pizza and pasta, and having never been, I decided to try pizza express in Eldon Square. Being mid afternoon, the place was fairly quiet, and the waitress was very efficient taking a drinks order almost immediately and bringing them to the table by return. Being 8 years old, my twin grandsons don't have a long attention span, so I was really pleased when the food order was taken and the food delivered quickly. My grandsons had pizza and pasta dish between them. They are quite fussy eaters but cleared their plates very quickly. I had z mushroom pizza, which was very tasty. As we were leaving, the place was really filling up, so I recommend going early if you are going for tea.

I’ve tried to ring the store to find out why my pizza is absolutely freezing cold and my portion of dough balls has literally one dough ball in the box? Highly recommend not using this dump

Originally the time slot said 21.05 to 21.25 but this was changed to 21.35 to 21.55 and the order arrived at 21.45. Not great. We had ordered vegan doughballs which turned up with what looked like a butter dip. We tried ringing the restaurant twice to check if it was vegan but they did not answer so we had to eat them dry. Again, not great.

Really sad to leave this as a review for pizza express who did everything they could. A driver was not sent for my order so the order took 2hrs to arrive. Pizza express tried to keep the food warm but dough balls do not do well reheated. Even after asking another driver to deliver it took 20 minutes to get to me- I'm 10 minutes from the restaurant. Something seriously went wrong and Just Eat won't acknowledge their part in the issue. The restaurant manager was great, again this was not their fault, they were not sent a driver so should have been able to cancel my order

Visited here on Saturday 12th and was served by a young lady. I believe her name was Georgia from the receipt, she was absolutely lovely and a great chat, attentive and sorted my desserts quite swiftly too. Food was lush and atmosphere nice.

We visited here without a reservation on Saturday night. The restaurant wasn't busy and we were seated quickly and easily. The lady that seated us was very helpful with the menu explaining what I could have that was gluten/dairy free. That unfortunately is where the good service ended. This lady dissapeared and we were left with some other servers who didn't seem present unless the kitchen called. I had to ask for a sauce that was missing from my starter, the starter dishes weren't cleared before the mains arrived, and when the mains did arrive I could see my 'raw slaw' sat at the kitchen waiting to be brought over but after 5 minutes I got up and retrieved it myself. There was no staff to be seen. The kitchen staff were apologetic but this is the first time I've ever had to do this at any restaurant. It felt like they shut at 9.30 (as they kept pointing out to people) and were only interested in getting cleaned down and out on time. The only time we did get prompt service was when we finally saw someone and asked for the bill. This is the first time I have ever left a restaurant without leaving a tip, but a tip is for good service which we most certainly didn't receive on this occasion. The food however was very delicious and the first member of staff we dealt with was very helpful so thankyou to her.

Great pizzas with lots of choice

My sister and I visit once a month for lunch. She couldn't make it today but I'd already ordered. The staff were so lovely and when I ordered my meal to go , wouldn't take the payment and said it was on them . So kind , restore's your faith in human nature.

Nothing beats PE dough balls and Pizza! Delicious as ever. Really like the Eldon Square PE. Staff are friendly and helpful. The white wine is very of a good quality’ Lovely evening.

Got my order incorrectly by bringing starters and main course together. Which I didn't ask for. Food was very tasty but do find it is overpriced. My husband needs to eat gluten free. You have a good selection of these items but again, a tad overpriced .

Not to mention the food is always fab and comes quickly. Such a nice stop off for a day of shopping in Newcastle with so many options for different tastes. Will definitely be coming again!

Allergic for mushrooms even I leave note that I want without mushroom they send with mushrooms. Food was cold. Not recommended!!!!!

We enjoyed our visit today. The food was exactly as expected and everyone enjoyed their meal. The best part was our server Sophie. A lovely girl who made us very welcome, she was friendly and easy to talk to and made our visit enjoyable.

Great staff, excellent food, significant care and provision for those with allergies. Good deals through the app. Great place to spend Tesco points. We have receive consistent great service and food over a number of visits. Always a treat.

Calamari was a little over cooked. Dough balls were lovely. My Nephew ordered a Pepperoni pizza which I tasted and it was lovely. I ordered the cannelloni unfortunately there was more sauce than actual pasta and filling, disappointing.

Pizza express Eldon square Newcastle Went here twice in the last month. We first got served by Rebecca who was fantastic. One of the best bits of service I have received. She had info and was not intrusive when we received our food. Our wait for food was great and food was delicious. We then booked a 12th party for our daughter, Neil and two girls (sorry I cannot remember their names) were brilliant and engaging with a large group of children. They were so friendly and helpful. The price for meals is fantastic and the app with deals is fantastic. I can recommend going here to anyone.
