Pizza Express in St Albans

Had a great experience few days ago visiting with family! The service was excellent—Lucy was especially friendly and helpful, making sure everything was just right. I also got to try a new pizza I hadn’t had before, and it was delicious. Definitely coming back!

I am a courier driver, I went in to collect my order. I asked a staff called Martina where I can collect the order from, she was very rude and she shouted at me and said she's busy, after she gave me the order, I wanted to use a side table to use to put the food into my bag, but she started shouting at me in front of customers and told me to sit on the floor and put the food into the bag! I found this very rude and upsetting as she only spoke to me like that because I am a driver trying to earn myself a living so she had no respect for me whatsoever. I am a customer of this place too and will never ever go back to this shop only because of MARTINA. I asked for the manager and she said the manager wouldn't want to talk to me, won't reccomend this place at all, businesses are going down hill because of staff like her. I will definitely share my experience on social media. I will never come back to this place, Martina has disgusting service and she has a stinky attitude too.

Terrible customer service from behalf of what I think was the manager (long black hair and wearing a lanyard and no uniform). My wife and I were waiting to be seated and after cleaning the table, this lady tells us we can sit. Under the table there were puddles of water with bits of food in them. Only after us asking she started cleaning under the table as well, but the puddle was still there. After waiting for a bit and seeing she had no intention of getting that sorted I asked if she could get that, otherwise we would leave, to which she responded “okay”. Not saying that she was going to sort it, nor that we should leave, so we just stood there for a total of 15 minutes (my wife being 7 months pregnant) and she had no intention of saying anything. She cleaned another same size table in the meantime and continued to greet customers. Only after my wife saying “are we alright to sit there?” She says something to us, otherwise we’d still be standing there. Great example you are to your staff… The servers on the other hand were nice

Had an excellent meal at Pizza express after work, the vegan pizza was delicious! It was also great value for money as we downloaded the app and got money off. The vegan dough balls were great too. Hard to get staff attention as they were busy.

Served great pizzas but i've eaten better ones. The pizza was nice and crispy, not too cheesy, just the right consistency. There was also no crust (but i think you can customise it). Service was also great in general, cery friendly staff and always there to help us. The atmosphere was quite good. Overall nice place and its good if you like some nice hot pizzas.

We had a group booking of 8 people for a work get together. We requested a table we could all sit around which was granted and nice. Waiting staff were friendly but service a little slow and it was quite, but food was nice when it came out. Cocktails also nice. It is slightly on the expensive side but there are certain deals on the menu such as family meals or set menus which you could take advantage of. There is a good range of pizza on offer and a few pasta and salad options so plenty of options

Celebrated my stepson’s 16th birthday at Pizza express in Harpenden yesterday 16:02/2025! The staff were absolutely wonderful and friendly, the food was amazing however the only thing that put a slight strain on the day and sad to say on the staff as well was their manager! For one very in appropriately dressed, wearing a top showing off her stomach is not appropriate attire for working in a restaurant and certainly not as a manager, two the manager was NOT very friendly or welcoming as matter of fact she was the complete opposite! You could clearly see this had an effect on the staff ! Which is a pity because the staff were absolutely amazing! The manager should not be in the management position with her horrible attitude and inappropriate clothing!

When you walk in it smells amazing. When the food came out it was far from amazing. Chicken was tasteless with an odd consistency. Waitress used her fingers to sprinkle the cheese when she thought no one could see her. It was overall, over priced and underwhelming.

A good pizza express venue - possibly the best restaurant location in Harpenden. It’s pizza express so you know what you’re getting; consistently good pizza. It’s great for kids (good menu and colouring in available - also good for kids parties). Service is good. It’s worth using the loyalty app since it offers good discounts and makes paying easy.

Really disappointed with the unprofessional, rude service received this evening at the Harpenden restaurant by the waitress serving a table of 10 people celebrating a birthday. Telling them to hurry up after placing drinks down to order their food because they were busy. Was just the start of the disgraceful behaviour and appalling service that was received.

I ordered a pizza with vegan cheese and rang to confirm this as the app didn’t let me add it on. When I called I was told yes no problem a note was made on the ticket. When I collected it I asked again and was assured it was vegan cheese. When we got back to the hotel, my partner said his normal cheese looked very similar to my vegan cheese and I should call and TRIPLE check. I did and mentioned I’m cautious because it’s an allergy, and was told yes it’s definitely fine. I ate about half of it before I got a phone call from your staff member profusely apologising saying no it wasn’t vegan. I then had a flight early the next morning and was nearly too sick to make it. They took my details and promised to call me and discuss it further but never did. Not even a refund. Don’t go here if you allergies or intolerances. Honestly 0 stars.

Classic pizza express!! Always good food and amazing service. Reasonable priced and goood vibes. Dough ball’s are obviously a must as a starter! A MUST! Get the roman based pizza if it’s your first time, never fails. Service was quick for a Friday night. Atmosphere was loud and a lot of people. Hard to hear your own conversations. But I suppose that’s a nice environment to be in sometimes. Definitely go go go go. Always love a good pizza express from time to time.

Visited pizza express yesterday. Excellent service, the waiter was very attentive, the restaurant was busy but we got our food quickly. The food was cooked very well, we often go to different pizza express, but I think this is the best, we will definitely come back here again

Our server Wiola was brilliant. She was patient, accommodating and very helpful. She had great knowledge of the menu and was so friendly. My family and I would visit again thanks to the service we received from her!

My waitress Nikita was amazing very attentive and friendly. The food was also great and the desserts were served in a timely manner.

This is our third time at this pizza express and it’s the third we have left disappointed. A family of five ordering starters, mains and desserts. We sat down and had to ask the waitress to serve us, only some of the starters arrived so I told them not to bother with the rest. The mains came and were ok, my romana pizza base was burnt. The dessert was ordered and again they didn’t have some of the items we wanted. When the bill came they still had the audacity to charge for the starter that we never received. All in all the food was ok and the service was poor. We won’t be back after today!

The staff are always welcoming, attentive and considerate of our needs. They take extra care with our allergy requirements, which gives us peace of mind. The Harpenden location has become our regular location.

Pizza express Harpenden has had a bit of a face lift of recent and it looks nice, however.... Areas of it are a little more secluded now whereas before it was all open plan. I preferred the open plan lay out and it must have diminished their amount of table space. Its a shame they didn't spend a bit of money doing up the lavatory facilities at the same time..... The new layout hasn't affected the service which has always been very good, along with great food. Ive started using their app to keep track of my what I'm spending and you can even use it to add any discounts / deals and pay the bill . All in all a very nice place that is very family friendly

Super friendly helpful and clean. I have eaten here a number of times always with a good experience. The staff are attentive and even let you know when they change shift. The bill comes promptly (when asked) Toilets are clean (odd bags thing in the mens loo waste pipe thing?!) Nice views.

Great lunch on Saturday with the kids in Harpenden! Our waitress Anna was looking after the kids, so we could enjoy a glass of wine in peace!

My experience at Pizza Express was extraordinary. My waitress Anna was extremely attentive and accommodating. Being from Asian decent, it has been hard for me to go out and have dining experiences in fear of being racially profiled; however Anna made me feel warm and welcome to be eating at this establishment. I will definitely be coming back soon.

Waitress of Slavic origin, late fourties' with blonde hair is extremely rude and unwelcoming. This isn’t the first occasion I have experienced this with this particular waitress, it’s always her. She speaks very short with me and my friend, doesn’t smile and also speaks with attitude and sarcasm. I observed how she served other customers and it was with the most warm, happy and attentive service. I don’t know what I’ve done to her for her to treat me and my friend like this on more than one occasion, the only difference with me compared to the other customers is that I’m brown and wear a head scarf. I work in customer service so I understand we may have our days but this waitress is cold. I will not visit this branch again.

My family came here for my sisters bday and we ordered a lot of things! It’s our family’s tradition basically to come here for any event. We were served by Natalia today and she is so sweet and delivered excellent service ❤️

Food fine but totally let down by service: visited with a 5 year old and 20 minutes after finishing our mains we still hadn't been checked in on despite numerous attempts to catch someone's eye. Gave up, paid on the app and left without having a chance to order dessert. Could not recommend.

Absolutely exceptional service and a credit to the PE brand. First-rate service and exceptional quality and attention to detail with our order, special thanks to Shria and the team who looked after our party on a busy Saturday afternoon. No request was denied and our group was running late which was not a problem to the team here. They provided a lovely table, made sure our pizzas were cooked exactly as we asked for and as we had children in the group, all their needs were taken care off, e.g. high chair, colouring pencils etc before we even sat down - these small things make all the difference. Well done to all the team here for ensuring PE remains our number one choice for casual dining.

Visit with family and we all really enjoyed ourselves. We all had pizza, they were all great along with the service that we received.

Very mixed feelings overall but yesterday’s visit was a fiasco. The first time that I had to stop myself from posting a negative review straight away. I waited 24h … I ordered a Caesar salad that come bone dry no dressing, asked for dressing and got the same dip that come with our calamari. I may be wrong but that just doesn’t seem right. Asked for pepper and expected the pepper grinder, we got a dish of it/photo attached. Like everyone else says the prices are high, we only go because it’s local and we use the app rewards. Regarding service, I feel that the staff is looking down on the customers (specially if you use the app) and they feel offended for the lack of tip regardless if they earned it or not. We do enjoy the pizza. Shame that there is no consistency in the kitchen though as our calamari looked reheated and burned. Plus on the kids menu the veggies look like they been cut last week, always. Just wanted to mention that I dined with my 3 children yesterday so I felt like I should just pay and leave. If I was to be with adults or myself I would have said something about that revolting salad. Shame! Considering that I paid more than £100 after the app savings.

Have to say Pizza Express has gone downhill since I first knew it. Although the restaurant had a good atmosphere and staff were busy, the actual pizza was tasteless and the ground beef was gritty, not very nice. Very poor

Always a busy popular Pizza Express. Service is good and staff are very friendly. Food is greeat. I had lasagne which was delicious and piping hot. No carpark but there is parking nearby. Good location in Harpenden High Street. Visited on many occasions with fairly large family group and we are always accommodated easily.

Expensive!pizza is no where near what pizza should taste. Small portions. Very stingy on the cheese (1/3 was not even covered. Hair found in the cheese. Won’t recommend nor will return. The staff are kind. The concept is a ripoff value for money and food quality.👎 There is a real pizza place down the street from there.

Love this place, it's our go-to in Harpenden for both a checking midweek meal out or taking all the family out when they're visiting. I'd highly recommend the Spicy Giuseppe and the rewards on the app add up, even including free kids meals mon-thurs. Staff are really friendly and helpful too, and you're not waiting long for service nor food :)

We often go to pizza express but this was the first time in the harpenden branch. Decor was lovely. Service was really bad from one of the staff members who was just very rude to us and acted very snobby. Food itself was okay, ordered a margarita, gluten free mushroom pizza and polenta chips. The gluten free pizza had all the cheese put into the middle of it which was not ideal. The polenta chips were not cooked properly either. Unfortunately we won’t be visiting this branch again although it is our local one! Hopefully they will treat other customers better. @mga.eats

It's a very good experience today ,early this afternoon, my wife and I were at the harpenden store we had a great experience,the food was generous and great .I would like to thank the Shef and the waitress and not forgetting alex the manager for his effort specially when he found out that it was my wife birthday. Many thanks to all staff who were working early this afternoon.

We had spent lots of time in Pizza express when I just got my baby a few years ago. Today is the first time after the renovation, really looking forward to it, then they totally let me down, we ordered spaghetti for kid, it's as hard as rock, some burned, it's such a simple dish. And the service was bad, calling the lady, they just ignored you. Will never go back

Walking distance from the train station located on the high street. As always, great service and atmosphere. Whether it's a pizza or salad you opt for, you won't be disappointed. Great flavours, fresh ingredients, and friendly staff.

Table outside on a warm evening gave us the holiday vibe. We enjoyed the reintroduced Bosco salad and also the salad nicoise. The hot honey dough balls are great too. It's not haute cuisine but you know what to expect and pizzaexpress delivers good quality food consistently.

Ordered on website and was told I will get some free dough balls for placing my first order. When I accepted the dough balls were added to my basket for £5.95. Also I had to opt out to *not* receive marketing by email. Pizza was great though.

A really nice family restaurant. The food and staff are fantastic and the restaurant is always really clean. We particularly enjoy the quality of service and the value for money. Dove and Darien, who have served us and our children on multiple occasions, are always really smiley, welcoming and professional.

I don’t often leave reviews unless I have a great or terrible experience, and having frequently eaten at Pizza Express Harpenden with our kids - we think it’s great! The staff, particularly Darrion, are always friendly and so accommodating, and are great with our kids! We’ve not had a bad experience there and after the great service we had today, I wanted to leave a 5* review and a special thanks to Darrion for looking after us again!
