The American Hot Romana is my go to pizza, but the Spicy Giuseppe peaked my interest, so I asked for them both half and half! With extra nduja sausage! O Wow! Thats it from now on….

I'm just glad I got one of the 40% off bundles because the Romana pizza was soggy, tasteless and cold and the chips were lukewarm and I got about 7! Not a great experience, sorry 😐

Is it looks like garlic prawn pizza with extra prawns??? I paid 40£ for 2 pizzas and got pizza which looks like someone just throw up. So disappointed…

The place was short staffed and we ended up being served by one of the chefs... He apologised it was his first time waiting but the knowledge of the menu was exceptional (as you'd expect of the chef), he was very attentive and kept checking on our group. I wish service was always this good everywhere we go.. We returned last week and booked online but turned up to find a note on that door saying 'sorry unexpected closure'. A wasted journey across the county but will return and hope the lack of staff does not force a closure.

Would just like to start by saying how much of a host Kieran was he was telling us he used to work there 3 years again and only got back into it about 2 weeks and he seems like his a nature as he was spot on made mine and my partners 6 year anniversary even more cosy!! But overall great night and great food and service Would go million times over was glad to be able to take some home maybe for a midnight snack 😉 Thank you pizza express newark and kieran!!

The service from Anna was impeccable, she was endlessly patient, knowledgeable, observant, and was willing to go the extra mile. The food was superb: 2-4-1 dough balls with the free club membership, plus fantastic pizzas! Atmosphere was quiet but it was a Wednesday night at 19:20 so that's to be expected, though I'd have probably put more people in the right hand restraint and left the one with the staircase empty to boost the atmosphere. Thanks!

The chicken wings were abysmal. A disgusting mess. Tasted of almost nothing except cheap chicken. The pizza was cold and chewy. Extremely disappointed and will never order from here again.

My husband, son, mother and I attended Pizza Express on 22nd April ’24 between 13:45 – 14:00 to have something to eat for my son’s first birthday. I am a regular customer of Pizza Express and always enjoyed the restaurant experience and we were excited for our son to experience this for the first time. On arrival we waited in the designated area to be seated. A woman then started walking towards us picked up some menus and then asked rudely any allergies and proceeded to point to an available table. There was no warm welcome, no greeting, no eye contact, nor asking how many was part of our party from the staff member. We were so shocked by this service, we had initially mistaken the person as not a staff member. One of the reasons why I chose Pizza Express as a place to dine is due to the superb customer service I generally receive. I was deeply disheartened by this experience. I was so distraught and shocked by this experience that we decided to leave the restaurant and found another restaurant to celebrate our son’s birthday.

Service varies massively depending on when you go. Food available normally good and quality generally consistent. Cleanliness could do with a boost, as table and chairs generally lack a good clean. With rewards, not overpriced at all

The quality is horrendous. Cold, All wet and floppy. Looks like it was baked like a week ago then frozen and reheated in microwave for a minute or so before delivery, pizza was delivered very fast from the time of order so to be stone cold is impossible. This is literally the worst pizza ever. Uneatable. Not sure what happened there. As last time I ordered it from same place it was so good. Today like night and day. I am not picky at all. But had to throw away.

Tiled floors meant it sounded echoey and every movement of chairs scraped the floor so it sounded like a screech. Food and service was good.

Popped into the Newark-on-Trent store for lunch had a wonderful pizza and dough balls, friendly staff and great venue 👌

Pizzas, chips and garlic bread were all under cooked. Not even edible.

My waitress Millie was lovely and provided excellent service! She was very friendly and made sure our dining experience was enjoyable. All of our orders were accurate and was delivered with a smile. The food was a delightful experience, all the pizzas were perfectly cooked and flavourful and the service prompt and courteous making it a very enjoyable dining experience. Will definitely return here with my friends on another occasion :)

Nice view of the river, waiters are very kind, good service, overall; the best pizzeria in Newark On Trent I, as a young one say (12) have been not treated very well with no adult in other pizzerias but the waiters where treating us like any other customer. Overall a 10/10

Absolutely amazing service. The waitress, a blonde girl, was absolutely lovely! She was very well mannered and knew what she was doing. She made sure to check in on us throughout our meal and make sure everything was alright for us. Genuinely the best customer service I've ever had at a restaurant.The food was amazing and didn't take long at all to turn up. It was made a lot faster than I expected it to, especially food for myself and 4 friends. The chef genuinely did such a good job and I don't have a single complaint about my night. Came in after watching some lovely fireworks, happened to be the only ones in the restaurant which was very relaxing! :) Our waiter Oliver was very kind and welcoming and happy to help us quickly with our order, the food was lovely and came nice and quick despite it being close to closing which we did feel a-bit bad about not realising they closed soon ! Oliver was happy to help with a takeaway box and overall gave us a welcome experience at pizza express!! :)

*AVOID THIS PLACE AND SAVE YOUR HARD EARNT CASH* We arrived at the restaurant to celebrate a significant 50th Birthday, we did not know what a treat we were in for! On arrival we had a warm welcome by the waitress of "Can I help you" not even as much as a hello or warm smile! A dissapointing start. We were then informed as we gravitated towards where we wished to sit, that we could not sit upstairs, which is the pinnacle of the restaurant with its sweeping views of Newark and the river, because the waitress was on her own. Somehow because of this she was unable to walk up a set of stairs to serve us so she claimed? The restaurant was empty, only one other table of two. The restaurant was also freezing cold. No heating. We had to have our whole meal while keeping our outdoor coats on it was that cold! We had our drink and food order taken. Drinks came well. Starter of dough balls came timely. It was then a wait of over an hour for a main course to arrive, in an empty restaurant by now! So why was the wait? The food then arrived. One of the pizza we had ordered was almost cold and inedible, most of the pizza was left. This happened to be the birthday guest's one. We had no mid service check in by staff to raise our concerns. All in all a very dissapointing experience from start to finish unfortunately, and will not be revisiting this venue in the near future. We would of had a much more rewarding time visiting the local McDonalds branch for a lot less, and that is really saying something!

Do not order a delivery! 1.5 hours after I ordered - the Deliveroo guy turned up with the wrong order, when I informed him of this he took it away, very unhelpfully said you have to contact through the App, nowhere on the Deliveroo App is any option to contact to sort a wrong order or refund. I called pizza express themselves and although I ordered through the pizza express App, then can’t help either. So 21:30 No food and £40 taken out of my account and paid to pizza express. Too late to re order and have to await an email battle to get a refund. The manager informed me they have many problems with these drivers and that this happen a lot but nothing they can do!! Really disappointing service, and ruined evening 🤬😡

The place could do with a lick of paint and a good deep clean. One waitress wearing glasses was fab, she works her socks off. The other with very dirty air force ones on was miserable! Pizza's were a little under done too. The worst pizza express we've ever eaten at.

The service is the slowest thing I’ve ever experienced and it’s not just the one time I’ve been there. Be prepared to be there for 2 hours for a 1 course meal. I like the vegan menu - although there’s a weird rule that they can’t give you vegan cheeze unless it’s melted.

Stopped off in Newark, only the 2nd time I have been to Newark, when traveling from North to South home. Stooped for a quick bite, loved the glass domed top floor, handy car park right outside, river views, great food and service.

I visited last Monday, the place wasn't very busy but we waited an hour and a half for 2 pizzas and a salad, it was obvious there was a lack of staff, there wasn't much in the way of toppings on the pizza and no dressing on the salad, we were just about to walk out as the food arrived because we were already late for picking up a relative from work, the staff were very friendly and helpful but the wait for what we had was ridiculous

First visit and was not impressed. Not sure if the lad that served me was new or just having a bad day. But food was a bit above average, nothing to shout home about. Serive as medium as it gets and atmosphere about same. Had a friend who advised us to just go asda and get 1 half the price with more on but like to give the benefit of the doubt. Price was steep for what you get and to be fair it saves cooking one yourself

Visited here on a Wednesday evening at 6pm as a table of 2 to just grab a quick bite to eat. Greeted kindly by a young lady who told us she won’t be a minute which was fine. Moments later we were told by a different member of staff that without a reservation that we would have to wait 45 mins, (rudely I must add) when the restaurant however both inside and out was almost empty. For a chain restaurant based on quick turnover and at least adept customer service this smacks of lack of training and experience. It takes time to build a good reputation and minutes to lose it.

Absolutely disgusted with this company, ordered a take away delivery, told it would be 25 mins turned up over an hour later, the food was warm at best, rand the restaurant to complain , we even probed the food for temperature readings while on the phone to the manager, the pasta dish probed less than 34 degrees, another pasta dish probed less than that, we were told that the duty manager wasn't trained in giving refunds and she would message the manager to sort, to date no courtesy call from manager, all contact has to be through web chat, and they claim that food was delivered within the time promised, THIS IS THE WORST SERVICE EVER, I hope trading standards or the food agency see this feedback and act as someone will end up ill through the way these operate

We arrived today and the staff were very rude and busy chatting and we stood there being ignored and to tell us there is no place available. We drove a long way from newcastle today. Will never go to any Pizza Express very disapointed indeed. Time to get some decent staff.

Amazing service, even though it was busy and they probably could have done with an extra pair of hands! Really paid attention to my dietary requirements and made sure everything was okay. Would definitely visit again!

Pizza base soggy and looked dirty, to much cheese

Aidan was such a help, it changed my night and Alex was as much of a help as Aidan, they both were amazing and deserve to be awarded for their work, nothing can compare to the service I had to tonight, also including Tom provided me with the best meal of my life 10/10 reviews will come again.

Came in for a mid afternoon meal and was really happy with my experience. My grandchildren loved it! Our waitress Grace was lovely and was extremely attentive to our needs, especially allergies. Will be bringing the grandkids here again when I get to enjoy the day with them!

Had an awful experience the service was shocking We asked for a jug of water and the waitress forgot then said she had no jugs in an empty restaurant. Then brought my wife the wrong pizza and challenged her trying to blame her when it wasn’t anything to do with her it was the incorrect order which meant I had to eat my own pizza alone or let it go cold. This is the worst experience we have ever had at a Pizza Express. 2 hour wait, burned food and stroppy management. Never again. We definitely won’t be back. We didn’t pay for drinks as compensation for a truly beyond poor experience. Had to visit a second restaurant in Newark. Thank you the Green Olive for saving the day.

BBQ Burnt Ends pizza - AVOID. We received a pizza swimming in sauce and totally un-edible. Waitress didn't know what to say when I said it was awful and the chefs need to be told! Won't be coming back!

Went for dinner at the Newark pizza express, waited nearly an hour for a salad, it wasn’t even busy when we arrived. All the plates and cutlery was dirty, the staff were rude, they couldn’t be helpful if they tried. They didn’t listen to our orders, failed to let us know food was out of stock, then brought us salad with stuff we asked not to be on there. When we said about this they then refused to come back to our table, we had to go up and sort the bill ourselves. We won’t be returning, wasn’t the first time this had happened too.

Calzone was pathetic, the salad dressing had more flavour.. Certainly more salad than I had filling in the calzone.

Extremely disappointing. Pizza okay but small and very pricey at £14.50 to £16.45. Calzone was flat as a pancake! Nothing like it should be. None of us felt anywhere near full. Will never go again! Chains are ripping people off. Only went as we had vouchers to spend. A 660 ml bottle of Peroni £6.95 glass merlot £7.35 Coke £3.55 is outrageous! Service rubbish. Need I say anymore!

Worst service and pizza that I've ever had! When we arrived there was only one table of 2 in but it still took 45 mins to get my "butterfly king prawn" starter "where are the prawns" I asked "they're in there he/she said, when I found them the 6/7 tiny frozen prawns that they must have used tweezers to butterfly lost in a sea of oil and tomato,we were asked for drinks order on arrival and had left 1 1/2 hrs later having not been asked again (by now the table of 2 had gone so we were the only ones in there and still had to wait a further 45 min for the sloppiest worst pizza,I had asked for the hot pepperoni and paid extra for all the extra meats, I could barely see the pepperoni from the basic pizza let alone anything of the extras that I had asked for on it. It has been a good few years since I last went in and it was previously a little pricey but all fine,now it's is more expensive with no standard at all,spend your money somewhere else,a waste of a well situated venue.

We had lunch here on a Tuesday, so it was quiet (only two of us and another two people) but the service was slow (due to a faulty oven, apparently) and our table hadn't been wiped clean, for which there was no excuse. The restaurant felt generally grubby, there was no atmosphere and the food was expensive for the standard we received, as the pizzas were doughy and undercooked.

Food a bit pricey but very nice especially Pimento chips. Also cater for lactose intolerant.

Excellent location, by the river & just out of the town centre. Food is good, but overpriced (even with the pizza express club). Staff are all absolutely lovely, but there aren’t enough of them, so be prepared to wait as service is slow.

It was a delivery so I can forgive the cold pizza. But it's the second time and the last time of using them for delivery and I will be using Dominos instead as there is always items missing off for the order. Now if it was a couple of quid I wouldn't mind but they missed off over £10 of sides/ starters. I ain't going to complain to them as the I did the first time and blame was passed to uber...I just simly won't be using them again. Upon checking again they really had total disregard for the order and messed up the desserts also. Terrible just terrible

Went here as a birthday treat. Staff was not particularly friendly when I arrived. Had to ask twice for some water. Starters arrived promptly but mains took a while to appear. Food was lovely but had no check back or offered any pepper etc. Tried to order sundaes but was told that the ice cream was too soft to use!We asked for the bill but when it arrived no 2 pizzas for £18 on or no free dough balls. Was told we could not have those deals if we were using tesco vouchers even though we had already checked on this with our waiting staff. Did manage to sort our deals but then was impatient in taking our payment!! Noticed other tables having to ask twice for drinks that had not arrived. One table left as they had waited so long for their food that they were going to miss their show if they stayed.

Another disappointment at this branch. Haven’t been asked to review it by them so reviewing here. Went last Wednesday, ordered the prawn pizza- came without prawns. Took it back to them whereby they put it under heat lamps, cooked the prawns separately and put them on the now not fresh pizza. Charged full price. Fed up of complaining about this place time to vote with feet. Didn’t tip- won’t be back.

We took our son to Pizza Express in Newark for a birthday treat, from the very start the cutlery was filthy, as was other empty tables cutlery on closer inspection. When it was time to order, half the dishes were not available on the day, acording to staff. When the food finally came out it was under cooked and tasted off. Will definitely not be visiting again, I'll also be advising others to do the same. Staff were rude and the food was vile.

Poor service and lack of interest by the manager. My first complaint of a PE. One child on a table of 7 and her food was late to the table, swimming in very hot water and overcooked (left on the pass?). I questioned why we had to pay for the child’s order and they took off only the pasta. We were never asked if the rest of the food was ok (some was burnt), never offered pepper / Parmesan. I saw other tables helping themselves in the end. Perhaps struggling with lack of staff? The manager didn’t even bother to apologise for the poor service. Perhaps they shouldn’t have opened today.

We arrived at Pizza Express: we had been before and had a great window seat overlooking the river. We were told that there were no upstairs tables, so sat downstairs which was OK, until we went to use the bathroom and discovered that there was a full table upstairs and the rest were covered in dirty crockery and cutlery. We also asked for a calzone without chilli, but it arrived with them. As no one came to check on us, we didn't pass this on at the time. We also needed to call a waitress over to get the bill. One pizza very good and tasty. One not great but eatable with chillies removed.

First of all we had been seated upstairs waited for 15-20mins before I went downstairs to get the staffs attention . Ordered their Niçoise salad which has been “ on the menu since 85” the dish had arrived missing two key ingredients- boiled EGGS and TOMATOES. The restaurant only had 2 tables the entire time we were there ,between 3:15-4:30pm. No explanation and not even an apology ! Do the kitchen even know what they are doing..?

Main thing really was the run down state Of the building and the fact that it was generally dirty. You could hardly see through the windows. Items on the menu not available. Fire alarm bleeping every couple of minutes, tho we were warned about this on entry. It just appears nobody cares any longer. We have been infrequent customers since it was opened and there has been a general decline in standards over our last few visits.

Very slow service and the place was fairly empty. As a travelling salesman I've been to Pizza Express restaurants throughout the UK and definitely won't be using this one again. Disappointing...this store lets the brand down.

Lovely place and food. Waitress smiley and attentive, plus food arrived at exactly the correct moment. The restaurant itself was BALTIC inside. I think the heater had broken, so we were sat shivering in the restaurant. Newark Council has a bit of a cheek, too, owning the car park at the front elevation of the business and placing their masks on for their stand and deliver pose to park whilst dining, no way of recouping this charge at the restaurant. Got to the car maximum heating to thaw after the meal. Would recommend as the food and service good.

Worst experience of a Pizza Express ever… I had to leave the table and ask for service twice! They were not busy and the staff were just chatting, not checking on tables at all and did not like being disturbed to come and take orders! They were dreadful.

Simply atrocious. We waited 50minutes for our pizzas. When I asked whether they were nearly ready they told me they hadn’t even started as they were busy with 2 tables of 8. I asked whether they might have thought to tell us that. After asking how long they would be I got a grunt from the chef while the other chef was on his phone talking to a mate out of the window. Drinks were comped but nonetheless - AVOID.

Food good, service okay. Freezing cold in the restaurant not much warmer than outside and it was December. Decor looking shabby and in desperate need of a refurb.

First time visiting this pizza express in years... My meal was great really couldnt fault it especially the carbonara pizza... saying that everything we ordered kept coming out at different times rather than all at once.. My wife ordered the chocolate brownie which arrived 15 minutes after my Sundae had arrived.. and when it did arrive it was burnt and really dry.... shame cause the rest of the meal was excellent

I originally typed a 28 line review. But I don't normally give bad ones - So I have now edited it to just say: food was very good, despite initially being given the wrong starters. Manager wasn't customer oriented, so won't be using the Newark pizza express again.

Awful service. My daughter and I popped in early afternoon and ordered starters and a main. Waitress didn't write anything down which was worrying. Starters arrived after 20 mins and then nothing for an hour. Had to go to the tills as nobody came to check on us, only to find out that our mains hadn't even been ordered. Offered to cook them there and then but we decided to leave. Paid for what we had eaten and can you believe the waitress even showed me the question on the machine asking whether we wanted to leave a tip - oh, dear.

Visited on a Friday lunch time took 2 hours for 2 pizzas to come out we didn't have a drink half the time we was in there because nobody asked then took them 30 minutes to fetch 2 cokes. It wasn't even busy so don't know what the issue was we visit the sheffield one regularly and we are always out within 45 minutes. The pizzas were one extreme to the other one was burnt the other soggy and undercooked and tasted like they had dropped the full jar of Italian herbs on the pizza.

If I could offer a lesser rating than one star, I would’ve. We booked our table for 6pm and were seated immediately. The waitress said she’d be back in a minute to take our order. We waited 30 minutes to order just drinks while tables who were seated after us were ordering first. We had mentioned to our waitress that we had been waiting and didn’t receive a mere apology. To put it frankly, she had a face like a slapped backside. The manager was clearly aware that we weren’t happy about this yet didn’t offer an apology either. Our food arrived 45 minutes after we sat down. Appalling. For a restaurant that isn’t very busy this was disgusting. Waitresses were nowhere to be seen during the entire time we were there. For a chain establishment, seeing how you treat paying customers is nothing short of disgusting. I, myself, have worked for a large chain establishment but I have never experienced something so blatantly disgusting. When the food arrived, it was bland and quite burnt - definitely not worth the money. We ended up paying through the app as the waitresses were practically useless, would’ve faired better by ordering online. While leaving, all of the waitresses were seen to be chatting/gossiping at the front door. Weren't offered a “goodbye” or any kind of acknowledgment, only stared at. We will not be returning again as this is horrendous.

Waited outside in the cold for 20 minutes, white 3 waiters prep our table?! They were talking and took them 20 min to put 2 tables together. No one called us, my busband went inside to ask if was ready and the waiter said: I'm not sure but I think we just need to put the cutlery. Insane.... even she was the one prep the table. We seat and to give us the cutlery, no excuse me or anything just put their arms in front of our faces. She gave us the menu without saying that a lot of the food was out of stock.. making our choices squeezed. We ordered and after waiting 30 minutes the food arrived and I cannot describe how miserable my pizza looked.. Poor costumer service, pizza terrible burnt... Awful experience I do not recommend that type of service. We paid £100 to have a awfultime.

Thought we would try the Newark branch instead of the Lincoln one...thought we had made the wrong decision when it took nearly 25 mins for our starters to arrive, with no real urgency coming from the kitchen. However, when they came they were absolutely spot on and the mains followed pretty quickly after that and they were also spot on. Will definitely try again and would recommend.

Nice location, absolutely terrible service. 2.5 hours from arriving to leaving just to have pizza. It wasn't even busy, but even when we managed to ask the staff for something, it never appeared and we had to chase them. They also got the order wrong and brought a really simple order (children's Margherita) with extra olives and when it returned they had just pulled the olives off and a mess of mushed up cheese. Should have checked the other reviews first

Kept forgetting to post- might have tried to forget in whole awful experience ive had with this place. Do not deliver from here with deliveroo. Ordered 60 £ worth of food around 7 30 and it was said it'll take around an hour. We waited for hour and half but when we tried to call them no call could go through-when finally it was stated its with driver - we tried to contact them but instead we kept getting pre recorded audio of "please be patient - driver will be with you shortly". At 10 food was still not with us but with driver - we did not got any call or info from the restaurant. Finally food arrived at 11 10- driver said he was lost but yet did not called us. It was a bridal party so you can imagine how it soured everyones mood to wait 3h or so for food.

Walked in to try and book a tabke. Restaurant empty at 7.00pm. Told it was fully booked. Then told it was because of staff shortages. Staff rude. Empty redo! Shame!
