Not great. Scone so hard that when I tried to slice it it ricocheted across the pavement. They offered to heat it up: the half that was not on the pavement. Umm. One of our party has a chocolate muffin. That looked better.

Average food at luxury prices. Suspicious that £18 in phantom meals had been added to the bill. Ironic as we’d just finished the ghost tour. Yeah, yeah - beware ye weary traveler.

Total rip off! Don’t usually comment on things like this but so annoyed this time. Called in for coffee and snack. Ordered two coffees, one with oat milk, a sausage roll £6.95 and a Portuguese custard tart. Was supposed to be a birthday treat but the just over £20 bill was extortionate! No prices were displayed on the cakes/sausage roll and, had we known how expensive it was going to be, we’d have walked back out. Now we realise, from reading other reviews, there was a service charge added to the bill - no wonder it was so expensive! Couldn’t understand when adding up the bill, why a custard tart would cost £5.55. It wasn’t particularly nice coffee either - much better coffee can be found elsewhere in Edinburgh.

A bit disappointing, we ordered a scone and danish pastry, all were dry and not tasty. Drinks were nice, we had a latte, chai latte and iced latte. Staff were nice and had a good atmosphere. Watch out for the service charge, a bit cheeky to add this in a cafe. (Very small print on the menu). If I had known this before sitting down wouldn’t have gone here.

Great breakfast on Grassmarket. First day in Edinburgh and looking for breakfast. Try to stay away from hotel brunch if you know what I mean. Well we found this lovely spot. Indoor seating for maybe 12? You feel in a time capsule. Fresh baked good and a well developed menu. We both had the avocado toast. You might be thinking what is the deal? Well the plate was filled with fresh sour dough and topped with a great avocado spread. The coffee served was fresh and a good morning starter. Friendly staff, timely service and a joyfully filled tummy! What more can one ask for at breakfast?

Oh what a wonderful restaurant in the Grass market area, we were staying at the Apex grass market so Pirlous was just down the street! What an amazing find and what wonderful fresh food and the staff amazing. Chloe (spelling) she was simply the greatest server we have ever had! So kind and pleasant and we ended up just popping in to say hello when we had a chance! Hello Chloe from the Canadians! We loved talking to you! We ate at the restaurant a couple of times for lunch and if we would have been in the area more we would have eaten there everyday! What a nice place and wonderful fresh food! We were lucky enough to enjoy Cesar salad and some of their sandwiches what wonderful fresh vegetables, ingredients and focaccia!, absolutely delicious! We had the amalfi chicken and some of the other wraps as well all delicious and we also enjoyed coffee and tea in the mornings! If you are in the area please go to Pirlous!

This was an amazing little cafe and lunch spot in the Grassmarket part of Edinburgh. The food is above-and-beyond delicious, especially the salads- packed with flavour and fresh ingredients—and it totally exceeded our expectations for a casual lunch. Coffee, pastries, and cakes were all gorgeous and I wish I could have eaten more. Fast, cute, fresh, and overall a way-above average experience for a quick lunch. Would recommend to anyone.

Just along the Grassmarket from our hotel, chose this wee café over the standard hotel breakfast and we were not disappointed. I just wanted porridge and coffee, my husband tried their focaccia and shakshukra over the two days we visited...both were amazing. Plus a superb choice of pastries. My advice ditch the hotel breakfast and head to Pirlous.

We stopped here for lunch after a visit to the (excellent) museum. I ordered a Marrakesh Chicken, whist my wife ordered a Lebanese salad bowl. Mine was delicious, extremely tasty. Unfortunately my wife's was not so good - the menu said it was served on a bed of kale, and included, amongst other things, olives. No olives to be seen anywhere, and, even worse, no kale, but rocket instead. My wife HATES rocket, so picked it all out. Maybe we should have complained earlier, but we couldn't remember the exact wording of the menu. Despite that, her salad was still tasty. The waiter said not everyone likes olives, and he'd forgotten to ask, and that they use rocket if they've got no kale. Would have voted it 5 otherwise.
