It's not our first time here and as such your expectations can be a little jaded as I am always thinking that it's going to loose its glory well let me tell you that even with a very very busy service and limited waiting areas to drink in prior to being seated the service did not drop if anything the staff were working extra hard to make sure everyone was taken care of and comfortable. This is the mark of a wonderful place we were seated my a lovely young waitress and the food as always was impeccable. I want to try different dishes but am always drawn to the pork starter and the roast pork main as the meat is spot on. I also had the Yorkshire pecorino cauliflower cheese and if I ever end up on death row this is my last dish. I went with two others and they both said it was spectacular from getting out of the car to getting back in. What a place don't hesitate to book and see for yourself how hospitality can be done. A true Yorkshire Gem.

Thank you for a wonderful evening! The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming, the staff were friendly and attentive and the food was wonderful and I believe good value for money. We enjoyed a mix of items from the specials menu and the main menu and all were cooked to perfection. I wish we had saved some room for dessert….. hopefully next time!

There is never a reason for anyone to be rude! Walked into this pub where there was no place to stand at the bar, so I left my fiance to order while I sat at an empty table waiting for us to take our drinks outside. One of the staff members approached me, saying loudly & in a very harsh tone: “Right, we have a long waiting list for tables”. I apologised, but received a rather derogatory expression from her instead of a response. Being pleasant is a basic requisite for hospitality, especially for an establishment that apparently has a good reputation. Living 6 minutes away, this is the first pub to provide a pathetic service like this. This experience will definitely be a driving factor for me to never visit this pub again!

We stayed here in October and ate in the restaurant during the evening. The food was really nice, great flavours and probably the best desert I have ever tasted ! The room was lovely and had a private patio and we were able to have breakfast in the room which was a nice difference. Staff couldn’t do enough for us. Would def recommend, food outstanding and in a nice setting.

We often dine in the main restaurant of the Pipe & Glass and are always delighted with the experience. We visited Beverley the other Saturday and decided to drive on out to the P&G for an impromptu lunch in the bar restaurant which requires no reservation. Looking through the menu and the Specials Board I opted for the James White Sausages with Bubble and Squeak and Innspire Ale Gravy and Mrs Wanderer went for the Pipe & Glass Ploughman's. The dishes arrived relatively quickly and I actually think we were served them by James Mackenzie, Chef Owner, himself. The disappointment then began. I've had the sausages before but this time around they were seemingly flaccid with very little browning. The skins were extremely chewy and difficult to cut and one skin came off the sausage in almost one piece which was very unappetising. Cutting the skins was made all the more difficult by the steep sided bowl/plate that the sausages were served up in and I can't help thinking that a normal flat plate would make that task easier. I detest having to spoon food onto a fork when eating as it is so ungainly but the sausages were so crumbly that when I tried to prong them with the fork they broke up into small pieces. A very disappointing meal. Mrs W's ploughman's was a large platter of assorted cheeses, meats and chicken liver parfait. The plate shape and size made it a little difficult to constrain the offering and she was surprised to find a number of cornichons hiding under the prosciutto. There were a couple of chutneys on the platter but one she felt was a little too 'Christmassy' for her liking. Her main gripe though was that, given the amount of cheeses and meats, there was only one relatively small slice of sourdough to accompany even though there was enough butter for two. A diner on another table had ordered chicken liver parfait, as a starter or main I'm not sure, but they were served two slices. Whether the lack of bread was an oversight we don't know but two slices would fit the meal better. Mrs W did say that the charcuterie platter that we've had in our room when staying at the P&G was far better and more enjoyable, and not much different in price either. All in all a mixed bag but it won't stop us returning in the future.

We had a wonderful time at Pipe and Glass. The beautiful setting, welcoming atmosphere, and incredible food made for a memorable visit. The service was friendly, and our children were warmly welcomed, which we appreciated. There was plenty of choice on the menu, and every dish was fantastic. However, despite the restaurant being quiet, the service was slow, and clearing plates between courses took too long. Our meal came to over £200, and that was just with water, no alcohol. While the food was great, I’m not sure it was worth the cost.

michelin star restaurant? Not on this occaision! Arrived on sunday Aug 11th around 2:30 very busy had to park 500 yards plus from the site every parking space taken. Once inside staff were very busy waited around 20 mins until we were asked have you booked a table we were then shown to our table and asked if we wanted water we said yes and somone would be back to take our drinks order. We ordered drinks and pondered the menu my wife chose the Hadock fish cake I chose the salmon dish, and tomato salad to share as we were exploring this well known michelin star restaurant. The fish cake was ok nothing special although needed seasoning which isn't a bad thing as you can add your own. The Salmon was tastless and the tomato salad was poor I expect tomatoes and plenty of them in a tomatoe salad! I had 3 small and I mean small pieces especially for the price £14.50, the Mozzarella cheese was poor, dry and lumpy in the middle very poor I would expect a high quality Burrata yes we did eat it we were hungry we should have on reflection sent it back to the kitchen No bread offered which was strange we ordered brown bread after our start which was heavy and quite dense. Mains I ordered Halibut with Crab on toasted brioche, veg, mash and boiled potatoes, I could not cut into the brioche brick and thats just what it was solid in the middle and the outside inedible loks like it was deep fried? Fish was dry it did come with a watery crab sauce in a tiny jug the sauce was poor not much flavour, watery and not much of it. My main was £36 plus veg and mash £50! My wife had fish pie which we describe as ok the sauce had not much flavour if it were not for the fact there was grated cheese on top that seemed to save he day the pie contained salmon and a white fish thats it.@ £26 the cauliflower cheese was ok the cheese sauce not much flavour £6 Adding insult to injury At the end I went to the wash room to find the table cleared the waitress took my unfinished beer and the bread! We were credited a bottle of wine at the table and asked if I would like to leave a tip. This is certainly not a michelin star restaurant general pub food thats it one off the list for sure

Reading the disappointing reviews I’m quite frankly flabbergasted, this place is amazing. Being a Michelin the service is not stuffy but really friendly and on point. The food was delicious, my salmon starter was fresh and gorgeous! All of my party enjoyed everything. The espresso martinis perfectly complimented the sticky toffee dessert. The servers were exceptional, especially Marie, we loved her! We travelled quite far to visit here and it didn’t disappoint, can’t wait to come back! Thank you for a fab afternoon

This visit was a gift for our anniversary. We had been previously a few times and always been very impressed but this time we felt was below Michelin standard. When we have been previously we had always been greeted on arrival, either with a stand outside or being met at the door and offered tasting bits before being taken to our table. This time we had to ask at the bar and then had to go find someone (the person who took us to a seat we felt looked quite “scruffy” for Michelin staff) to mark us as arrived. We were served a drink and given the menu. The people sat near us were told that they had sold out of one item on the menu. We were eventually taken to our table, quite a while after our booked time. We ordered our meal (5 potatoes between 2 of us, which we thought an odd number and should at least been an even number as we both had the same meal). The food was really good as ever. We were sat next to the conservatory which we noticed there was a very large group that had staff walking round constantly being very attentive as they should in this standard of restaurant, but we felt that we were left for long periods, longer than normal. Three times my husband had to ask for an extra drink before he was brought this. We had gone for Sunday lunch and were still sat waiting for service as staff were finishing for the day and we had to listen to them shouting bye to each other, and other comments, quite loudly, whilst we were still waiting for said drink. Had we been told on booking that a large group had been booked in we would have chosen a different day. We have always enjoyed our visits but we will not be attending again as this has now spoilt our experience.

Really quite disappointed with our visit. Starters of crab were ok but expected more, especially for the price. Just no wow and crab a bit wet and overpowered by other ingredients. My wife’s fish pie was quite small and just not very good with limited fish. Roast beef was excellent but rest left a bit to be desired. Gravy a bit thin and roast potatoes need a strong knife as well as strong teeth as overcooked. Vegetables just ok. Worst of any Michelin star we have eaten in and won’t return. Staff and service was excellent and the place was packed so must be doing something right for many. I know the restaurant industry is generally suffering and don’t like giving poor reviews but just felt for us disappointing.

This place is utterly amazing. I went here in February for a birthday celebration. I had the steak and what can I say but the word fantastic. The starter was very nice. After the very nice desserts of chocolates the staff started to sing to my group’s birthday member wishing him a happy birthday. The only downside is that the bread was not complementary which I was disappointed with because as a Michelin star restaurant I would expect complementary bread considering I am paying over £300 I would have liked a piece of bread (which would cost you almost nothing) as a paying customer I am disappointed with trying to get every last penny from us normal folk. Nice restaurant though.

Sadly we have come to the view that the Pipe and Glass is simply not the incredible and always reliable venue it used to be. That view is based on our last few visits. Initially, we had a very poor Sunday lunch, the chicken liver pate was thrown on the plate with barely any chutney. I had pork which had what appeared to be offcuts or scraps of pork, as opposed to the usual huge slices. The gravy had been warmed to the point it had congealed. We waited 35 minutes for our main course, the staff had obviously forgotten about us. We hoped it was a terrible and very uncharacteristic ‘ one off’ but actually it was a sign of things to come. Three succeeding visits were similarly lack lustre to poor. A common denominator was lengthy waits between courses combined with bland food. Given the ever rising prices, this is simply not good enough. The Pipe and Glass lost two exceptional floor managers over a year plus ago and service wise, things have never been the same. Combine that with food that is average at best and we have decided not to return. How it has retained its Michelin star is a mystery to me.

Disappointing. We booked for lunch and looked forward to something a little bit special, as the Pipe and Glass had been recommended. I had a “proper prawn cocktail” to start with which was very nice, but nothing out of the ordinary. My husband enjoyed his chicken liver pate. My husband then had fillet steak for his main course and I had the guinea fowl. Whilst the quality of the food was good, both main courses were lukewarm and the plates were cold. This is not acceptable from any restaurant, let alone one with a Michelin star. We decided to call it a day after that and not bother with deserts. I could see that my husband felt very let down and disappointed, as he wanted to treat me to a special lunch. We eat out regularly and it beats me how it has a Michelin star, there are many more better restaurants out there serving hot food.

We were quite excited about visiting the Pipe and Glass. Our room was lovely and the service was superb. Dinner, however was honestly a bit ordinary. I had prawn cocktail for a starter (I was intrigued to see what a Michelin kitchen made of it). It was okay, nice prawns but just an ordinary prawn cocktail. My wife did not really like her starter. We both had guinea fowl, very nice but my wife's was tepid and really needed heating up. Desserts were okay. My Baked Alaska with rhubarb was a bit sickly but my wife's chocolate dish was very good. Wines were excellent and fairly priced. Breakfast was very good and service fantastic. But the reason for going there was the dinner and we were not thrilled. I cannot believe this is rated the same as the Man Behind the Curtain in Leeds by Michelin. The Pipe and Glass gets lots of terrific reviews and we think we might have hit them on a bad night.

Michelin it maybe but service was distinctly lacking. No greeting on arrival just menus dumped on the bar, find yourself a seat. Here some canapés, oh are there any allergies? Let me just walk your cqnapes back to the kitchen and let them go cold whilst I check what's in them. Once at the table ... Would you expect to pour your own wine in a Michelin establishment let alone any decent restaurant? Check back on starters non existent, good job the food tasted good. Mains were good, but again service lacking, lovely bottle of pinotage, left on the table for us to deal with ourselves. There was at least a check back this time but the most basic of closed questions from the service team, when you'd expect an open question to stimulate the interaction with your guests. Overall an extremely under whelming experience.

The food, atmosphere and service may be exceptional but we will never find that out! We were bought a very generous gift voucher for use at the Pipe and Glass, understandably we were excited even though they are closed due to being in tier 3. But pubs and restaurants are able to offer a takeaway service during this time to keep the business afloat! So we requested a New Year’s Eve takeaway and some wine but upon a returned phone call were told that their gift vouchers are NOT redeemable against their takeaways! But not to worry they last 12 months, haha when they actually open I expect we’ll struggle to get a table as they won’t want prepaid bookings! I find that extremely unfair that they have already received the money for the voucher but are not willing to let us use it! The gift is now tainted as I would never want to eat there, I’d rather support smaller more local businesses with my actual cash!

The staff just don't seem to understand how to create an experience. Overall it felt like we were being processed through the restaurant. The Halibut on the Specials menu was a great main course. Everything else was fairly average and did not represent value for money. We are in very difficult times which are having a disproportionate impact on the hospitality trade but staff must realise that when people travel (in our case over an hour), to a restaurant, they do so for the experience, not just the food. Front of house needs a change of attitude ... It's very difficult to come back from a poor welcome.

However, they have stopped doing some of the little things that add to the experience. Quintessential setting, just how you would want a village pub to be. Stayed overnight and booked in for the evening meal and breakfast. Very good Covid prep. Arrived mid afternoon and had a couple of drinks in the bar, the beer was very reasonably priced. Shown to our rooms in the old lambing yard approx. 500 meters away which were excellent, very spacious, clean with good attention to detail. Walk in shower with separate bath and his n hers wash basins. Nice large dressing gowns and a fridge in the room. Very comfortabel beds. Evening meal was good but my wife found the Prawn Cocktail a little bland and my Fish Pie was nice but nothing special although the cheese wafer that accompanied it was very nice. The bread was also very good. Prices are reasonable considering it has a Michellin star and the food (thankfully) was not at all pretentious! I would say £50 per head for 3 courses excluding wine. For breakfast you fill a form in your room the night before. Got our order slightly wrong but were very quick to correct it. Lovely breakfast but - Chef please note - the fried bread & mushrooms were extremely greasy (I had better the day before at another establishment) You can also walk round the lovely herb gardens. It's clear that the owners have put a lot of time & effort into the pub. I particulalry liked the unpretentious menu & lack of foam. Would visit again

My partner and I Have been hoping to try Sunday lunch here for years and we finally got in so we were both very excited to experience the famous P&G cuisine. The pub looks great and the staff are very pleasant. We both had the roast beef Sunday lunch. The beef was delicious everything else was just nice but nothing special. The Yorkshire pudding didn’t taste fresh at all. I’ve had much better for half the price. The dessert I’m afraid was very poor. I ordered a dark chocolate millionaire pudding it came with a tiny scoop of ice cream which was not enough for such a dry dessert. I ended up with a very dry pile of chocolate powder and shortbread.

What a lovely place. We stayed in the Mint Room which was really well laid out, with a lovely view of the garden and a luxurious bathroom. Service was perfect in the afternoon sat outside and also during our evening meal. Food was delicious and so was the wine. Breakfast was served in our room and what a choice! It was hot, on time and perfect start to the day. Will definitely be making a return visit.

My wife and i visited here as a belated wedding anniversary night out. We where both so looking forward to a nice night and some lovely food on our own for a change. The food overall was fantastic beautiful scallops and fishcake for starters followed by delicious lamb and halibut, with 5 ways to love chocolate and cinder toffee ice cream and a coffee to finish all superbly cooked and presented. My only problem was when i took a bite of my crab croquet there was still some shell in it which i cut my mouth on. I managed to eat the rest of my meal as the halibut was lovely and i didn't want to spoil our night. I showed our waitress when she took the empty plates away and she was suitably apologetic and informed the manager who said to her to take the halibut off our bill. That was a nice touch but i just feel that if something like that happened in my business i as manager would have come out and checked i was ok and apologised myself rather than leaving the waitress to do it. Maybe thats just me but left a sour and bloody test in my mouth. The food here is awesome but front of house maybe needs sharpening up a bit.

We enjoyed an outstanding lunch at 'The Pipe And Glass' today made extra special by the faultless service from Rebs, Marie and Gemma. The scallops starter was excellent - the fish tasting of the sea and complimented by the cauliflower puree and mussels in a light curried sauce. Even the pea-shoot garnish delivered a taste of the garden and must have been freshly picked. My wife enjoyed corgettes beautifully cooked three ways with a lovely soft cooked egg. The' Ox Cheeks' main literally fell apart on the fork ; the sauce was tasty but not overpowering and the fresh carrots again complimented the dish marvellously. The Apple and Bramble crumble was made with fresh fruit from the restaurant's garden and served with cinnamon custard and an apple sorbet. A perfect desert. There was no better way to spend a rainy Bank Holiday- thanks to 'The Pipe And Glass' for looking after us.

Dinner, including the vegetarian choices, was excellent: high quality food served well & without pretension. The village , including the church, was a good place to stroll around before dinner. We’ll definitely be back again.

I guess the awards etc that this place has achieved over the years speak for themselves so this is to confirm that our expectations were met with bells on! Some places just get it right and this is one of them. We stayed in the Lambing Yard rooms and booked a table in the bar for dinner. It was our anniversary. Great food and unassuming (but great) service. We took the short walk back to our room feeling very happy. All COVID measures in place, but so subtly done that you’d hardly notice, which is refreshing. Thank you to all staff for a great all round experience and hats off to you for making our stay feel “normal” during these difficult times. Having read a recent review rating 2* it appears you can’t please some people, all I can say is go with the majority. 5* from me.

Having visted the Pipe and Glass before we were looking forward to an anniversary meal there. Sadly, the general impression we got is that the staff were doing us a favour by serving us. There is an air of arrogance about the way they treat clients. The waitress was quite unfriendly and sullen when she robotically read out the 'specials'.The steaks we ordered were pretty good but the chips were underercooked and the accompanying vegetables were not great. The dessert was not as described and very miserly. This restaurant is not cheap, for the prices charged a much better experience should be provided. We won't be visiting again.

Having visited previously I had also spoken so highly of P&G to my partner we decided to visit for lunch. We booked on the day as the weather was stunning and we offered the picnic benches out front or a table on the Garden patio, we opted for the Garden as the scenery is lovely. Things started off good, starters were served, I had the tomato salad and my parter had the fish cake and they were stunning, exactly what I had expected ! However, we then sat with empty plates and glasses for what seemed an eternity. The table behind ours had their plates cleared, desert and wine order taken and then had their desserts served in the time it took to have our starters cleared and to be offered another drink which i feel is poor. I understand COVID has had a massive impact on service but I felt that wasn’t enough of an excuse of how inattentive the service felt. Maybe it’s because we were out back right in the end ? Mains and deserts were again stunning, my smoked Salmon was piled high and was so tasty. The deserts were scrumptious, my raspberry delice was like a fresh slice of heaven !

As you drive up through the Yorkshire countryside you know you’re in for a treat. We were taken to our room, Lovage, a fully accessible room. I’m a wheelchair user. The grounds are gorgeous gardens, accessible, but a narrow path through the plants does test your driving skills. The room is phenomenal. Massive bedroom and fully accessible wet room. Best disabled bathroom I’ve ever seen in a hotel. Great amenities in the room, including a coffee machine. No fridge, which I would suggest for some disabled guests need medicines in a cool place. Room is fully air conditioned and was lovely and cool on a warm day. You have a private patio area with table and chairs. You can get anything from the main bar and restaurant delivered to your room. Fast, great service. We had an amazing lunch, the food was amazing and great value for what you get. The only negative in the room is the height of the bed, it’s slightly too low and hard to get off. It also creaks a little! We booked into the restaurant at night. We had aperitifs on our patio then to the main building. He’d to get the wheelchair in here due to slight door lips and tight turns with small doorways. They need a small ramp through the back door that would fix this. Anyway I got in! The table was large, spacious and a lovely, casual atmosphere. A brasserie style menu. We ordered the specials. Oyster tempura - to die for, grilled mackerel, Grouse - amazing and pork belly - show stopper. We shared the chocolate 5 ways and then a cheese board, both being amazing. The food is the best we have had in a long time. The only negative here was the service in the restaurant. Covid or not the staff are not attentive enough. Small things like forgetting our water we ordered, leaving us without a drink for too long, not asking how the food was at each course (was one only at the dessert). Whenever we needed something you waited too long, there was enough staff on, but you felt nobody was looking after you. Now the service we got in the room was in contrast immense. My back started so we did after dinner liquor coffees on our patio. They did this quickly and gave so some gorgeous petit fours and cinder toffee - get this! Breakfast you order the night before on a sheet. Amazing selection . We had it delivered to our room. Wow! Everything was excellent. So hot, fresh and great home made touches. Service was again amazing here.We will return.

Given the difficult times the restaurant trade is going through one is reluctant to be critical . However this was a fairly average meal it was predictable and worthy nothing bad but as dull as ditchwater . The main course Halibut was fairly good the starters and we had different ones were heavy and crude . The desert was particularly poor felt like it might have been created a few days ago . The service was OK but again without any flair . I would also have expected the server to have been wearing a mask . I went for a meal in a restaurant close to this one the previous week and left feeling very pleased and quite exited . This was solid fare reasonably presented and larking in any sort of spark ultimately a disappointment

Everything ran smoothly and we sat in the bar after booking weeks ago which was absolutely fine! I liked it how it was was last night but also missed th hustle of the business at the bar too strangely! It was a bit cold due to the temperatures dropping loads last night but the waitress closed the windows for us as the doors now have to be kept open for air flow, with the one way system running well ! The food was as usual amazing ! I just love the fish dishes and was over the moon to see halibut on the menu but love the love the stone bass too ! Wow was it a beautiful meaty piece of fish just lush ! Hubby had the fillet steak stating it cut like butter! We had two lovely desserts drinks and starter and I opted for the bread ! Our waitress was lovely helpful attentive and professional throughout, having a nice chat at the end of the evening ! Wele back soon and hoping to god not as long this time ! Super well done and welcome back.

The staff here never fail to deliver excellent service from the moment you arrive and despite restrictionS of the COVID pandemic they onace again excelled. We always stay in Sage which is a beautiful and comfortable room and on arrival it was clear it had been thoroughly cleaned with COVID in mind. The staff have the bar and restaurant area ‘locked down’ and you cannot enter without a reservation making the place feel very safe. We had drinks in our room pre dinner and service throughout the evening was excellent. The food here is superb we had courgette three ways and potted pork for starters both of which were excellent. Mains of ox cheek and sausage and mash were equally good and accompanied by sides of chips and seasonal vegetables were very filling. We did not have room for dessert but coffee accompanied by petit fours and dark chocolate honeycomb bites (posh crunchies) were excellent. Breakfast the following day was equally good and there is a wide selection on offer. Bring in next August when we are already booked in.

Back in the UK and in my native Yorkshire I thought it might be a nice idea to visit the Pipe and Glass at South Dalton, somewhere I last ate over 30 years ago!!It was a Saturday and I thought I would be lucky to be able to get a table for that evening but considered it worth trying. The signage wasn't terribly clear and I made my way through a door that appeared to lead to a Reception area. A young man appeared and wanted to know what I wanted. The ambience was quite formaI and I introduced myself, correctly, giving my name and title and asked if they had a table for later in the evening! He looked down his nose at me. "You don't look like a Doctor!" was his retort and then "We're full, I'll speak to you outside!" as he ushered me out of the establishment. My only retort was that, if full, there was little point in speaking to me outside - and I left!Who did he think he was? Rude and arrogant! I had the impression that they didn't want 'my sort' eating there! After all I might, just, make a mockery of the pretentiousness!!

It is a sign of the quality of the food, the rooms and the staff that, within 2 hours of arriving home from our 6th annual visit, we have already re-booked for next year and I couldn’t think of a better venue to celebrate my 50th birthday. The staff are incredible and you are treated more like family than customers. There are lovely touches, like a birthday card when I hadn’t even mentioned that it was my birthday, they just knew I went every year around my birthday. The food is amazing every time and well worthy of their Michelin star. Really good portion sizes as well, this trip was the first time we’d managed a starter, main and desert each. Washed down with a lovely desert wine,We stayed in Sage which was beautifully decorated and appointed. As with all the P&G rooms the beds are incredible. Bumped into James MacKenzie too and he epitomised the personal approach of the staff, with the thousands of people he served every year it was clear that he recognised us and took time to talk to us.It is, without question, our favourite venue and our visit is one of the highlights of the year.

I agree with Jay Raynor's review re: the Pipe and Glass, that one Michelin star is a fairly arbitrary award. Our evening meal on was good but not exceptional. It certainly wasn't good value for money. We have had better food at non-Michelin starred restaurants, such as the Oak Bank Hotel at Grassmere, or The Cross at Kingussie. The Pipe and Glass dishes are underwhelming both in terms of their limited flavour range, and their average attention to detail. My beef hash starter tasted of, well beef hash, and was barely saved from monotony by a few spots of rhubarb chutney. My partner's home cured gravelax starter was refreshing, but too steep at £15. Our mains of guineafowl breast were ok, if a bit overcooked, as was the sprouting broccoli. There was little else on the plate, but a small pile of what tasted mainly of raw garlic. Neither of us ate that. Why would we? If one doesn't order sides, at £4.50 each, one could leave hungry. There are puddings, of course. My wife had cardamom flavoured rice pudding. The rice was undercooked. The five kinds of chocolate is bizarrely large. I doubt any normal person could stomach all that. So why prepare something so rich, so large? And why prepare mains so small? We had a mediocre bottle of house red, expensive at £20. The home truth is that the chef is neither a master of flavours, nor a stickler for detail. The service was polite and friendly, but we were served by so many different individuals, even that was rather spoiled. As for the Baron de Sigognac VSOP Armagnac: my suspicion that it was a cheaper substitute is supported by my later research. I guess a Michelin star can be seen as a licence to hike prices. I hope and expect that this Michelin star will quickly be lost. If so, the proprietors may be better able to focus on quality and less on price.

I had the deer with rhubarb from the specials board and my partner had the fish pie with greens and picked salad on the side. The setting in the window table with background music and plenty of space was perfect. We ate off the a la carte menu and we both had three courses complimented by a bottle of fizz. Each course was food heaven and the service was exceptional so we will be returning for the Sunday lunch to celebrate my birthday in April. Thank you
