Went with a group of colleagues from work, they arrived early to que up outside as it gets super busy as soon as the door opens. Very busy, all tables full and a que when I arrived at 12:10, I didn't need to wait as my group had already been seated so went straight down. Really nice pot of tea very soothing, and refillable. Starters ordered 9 as they come in sets of 3. No halal options so I stuck to the vegetarian option, vegetarian rolls and dim sum I think. I took a picture before all the starters came out and forgot to take a picture of the mains. We ordered 3 mains, vegetarian fried noodles, beef noodles , and chicken stir fry rice. Big portions shared between 6 people with left overs. I tried the stir fried rice just left the chicken, nice enjoyed. The beef noodles were a hit on the table flavours nice. Unfortunately the vegetarian fried noodles were very disappointing, the noodles were not cooked properly, crunchy and dry, very little sauce and 3 large piece of carrot, some kind of mushroom. Not enjoyable at all. This is the only thing that disappointed in the food. Our friend is Chinese and she did the ordering as the order slip is written In Chinese. We split the total £16 per person cash only there was 6 of us. I would go again but order different as many of the guests ordered meat and since it's not halal I did not get to try all the starters. We went to the bakery next door for dessert.

This is the worst service I have ever seen in Manchester. No one greeted me when I walked in. I ordered something and wanted a portion of chili sauce. The waiter had a bad attitude and said it would be charged. A small portion of chili sauce cost 1.5 pounds. The staff who took care of the bill was sullen and didn't even say thank you.

No Fresh Food; Pictures looks good, Food and Service are NOT Before I came I knew the food isn't as good but got catfished by Offers* Offers* - Spent £30, can half price a selected dishe Customer services were bad, asked what to recommend and despite order 3 big dishes average around £20ish. She has mentioned that it is mostly fridged seafood. Do not expect fresh as we recalled from her and Got forced to order rice despite we don't want to as we have got a dish that contains rice. Food took around 20~25minutes. Thought would have been fresh. But definitely not. E.g. crab ain't, eel ain't and Oyster were fried beforehand. Think before you go. Many thanks

29/07/24: Came here on the recommendation of friends as they had the Lunchtime Offers on 3 dim sum for £12 or big plate meals for £9.99. I chose the dim sum, of course. There were so many choices to choose from that it was hard as there were lots of my favourites - eventually, I selected 1. Steamed pork rib in black beans 2. Ma Lai Go (steamed brown sugar sponge) 3. Fried Radish Cake. Let me tell you how they arrived - lovely, hot, and generously portioned given that we're in a cost of living crisis. All done to exacting seasoning and authentic tastes. I couldn't eat it all and had some left over for a doggie bag. It's definitely worth getting in early, before their opening time (12pm to 4pm) so that you can secure a seat. By the time I'd left an hour later, there were about 8 families in the queue. The restaurant was packed out. Service was quick and atmosphere was typical Chinese families congregating together for their dim sum treat! There were other dishes that I spied across other tables, and they looked like the real thing from Roast Duck to Ho Fun dishes, or congee, steamed fish etc., I'll be back in a few months time and review for another meal! Good on you, Pin Wei for these brilliant offers.

Ordered 6 pieces, was supposed to be 2 x £12 but was asked for £38 "since I paid with card". That was never written anywhere and when questioned the waiter immediately changed her mind, £24 + 17% service charge was apparently ok anyway. Felt like she tried to trick us. The food was alright but the waiters made constant noise slamming plates while clearing tables.

While the variety is limited, the dim sum offers and single dish orders makes this worthwhile The food is very good for the price. The won ton noodle soup and xo mixed seafood fried rice is also good. So are the chickens and salted fish fried rice too. Do come early or your going to wait a long time. It’s very popular with students as well

Well we came here after my friend did a google search for "best chinese restaurant in Manchester". And it's certainly a well run restaurant with solid but not exceptional food at sensible prices. The staff are friendly and efficient and the surroundings disguise its basement location quite well. We were in Manchester to celebrate my Birthday and decided to go for a Chinese meal. The restaurant has a nice ambiance, staff were friendly and the service very efficient. Went in for an afternoon meal as we wanted to try authentic Chinese food. There was a sign saying wait here to be seated. Waited there for a while but no one acknowledged us. After waiting for a good ten minutes we saw a Chinese family come in and get given a number like a slot. So I went and asked someone and were given a number too. Should have known it’s going to be a disaster then and there. After waiting for a little longer we were given a table and some menus. Menu was different than what oriental people were getting. The guy later changed it for us as we wanted authentic food. Apparently the other menu is for non oriental people. Then there was a lunch menu in which offers were written in Chinese I assume. Didn’t understand what it meant. Somehow ordered some food. Waited 45 mins and nothing. The tables that came 20 mins after us were eating but we were sitting there like idiots waiting away. By the time we were getting up to leave they came and dropped a starter on the table. No apology nothing. Pros - the guy at the bar counter was friendly. Cons- not a place to go if u r not oriental. Made us feel like we were not welcome there. The beer was flat. Food might have been good but we never got it, so can’t comment on it.

It's 8.30 on a Saturday and I was taken in by the number Chinese people coming and going and seated in this restaurant. I don't know if there are two kitchens and two menus but mine was very disappointing. Prawn toast was ok, if a little too long in the fryer making it brittle at the edges. Chicken and vegetable in lettuce wrap was vegetables and chicken without much to keep them together. The lettuce was fresh and plentiful, unlike the hoisin sauce. More of the same with pork with pineapple and ginger. The plate was full of peppers and onion, then pineapple, then pork. With so many better choices on the doorstep, don't go here, go somewhere else instead.

This is probably one of the better value places for dim sum. We had 8 people on our visit and we went on bank holiday Monday. Bit of a mistake. The place was heaving and the queue was literally up the stairs and out the door. We collectively queued for 1h 15m before we got a table. The food was nice. Nothing particularly special, nor was it bad. Being a popular establishment, you can tell they are run off their feet. Having a couple more floor staff would not go amiss. Most chinese restaurants dont charge for sauces, but Pinwei charges for chilli oil, which we got a portion of. Didnt realise it was a quid a portion. Not a deal breaker, but would have been useful to be informed up front. But then again. They have to cover the cost of the cheaper dum sum somehow I guess?

This evening, I and a few friends went for (what turned out to be an evening to remember) a joint-birthday celebration, at our favourite a-la-carte high end, Chinese restaurant. Very welcoming a reception: *The beautifully attired in a QiPao (traditional, Chinese dress), lady co-owner, Lily sweetly offered me a hug followed with the proposal of the free gift, of a rather-expensive, family sized bottle of Italian originating, Prosecco, before bidding us a good evening, as she herself too, went about to support the efforts of her staff, to ensure the comfort of the guests in the venue. *Eddy, the charming youthful gentleman Manager meanwhile: Was the one who professionally delivered the bottle of Prosecco, in a, ice filled wine-container (a champenoise), along with his regular warm, friendly demeanour and welcoming smile. *Meanwhile, the staff team of waitresses, comprising: Jing - Nicole and Tracey, saw to our table reliably - dependably and attentively, throughout the entire evening that we were there (something like 3 hours) , being, ever helpful and empathic to our tables needs (as well as other dining guests, too it seemed, with their multi-tasking skills on full display!) Cuisines tasted tonight We enjoyed the following dishes, which comprised this evening of: *Sweet and Spicy fish with pancakes - this was a new one to us, the fish itself was tender and the fish skin itself crispy and tasty (I could even eat many of the fin-bones, so well had the dish been prepared/cooked), whilst the 'pancakes' were deployed like massive Croutons, into the bubbling sauce (to the gargantuan plate of fish, being approx 45 cm wide and 8 cm across or so), which continued to be kept warm, by a distinctive self-heater, underneath the plate itself #COOL! :+). *Sizzling Steak on Iron platters, in a green pepper and blackbean sauce, my friend who ordered this, appeared to demolish, everything on the platter, with it being so tasty and fairly sized! *Japanese Tofu Cylinders this hot pot dish, was in turn, stuffed/filled with a combination of Oysters- Kin Prawns and Squid pieces, making for a genuinely tasty dish :) *GwaiFei (Oriental Wine, marinated Elder chicken) this dish was also of a generous size as well and was completely demolished by my two female companions! *Giant King Prawns, steamed with spring onions upon a generous bed of Vermicelli: These prawns were gorgeous, tasty and reminiscent of well prepared crab, in the style of being cleanly prepped (guts cleaned) and flavoured with ginger and onion + likely, Rice wine. Conclusion: In the end, on top of the customary suggested 10% service charge, every single diner on my table, provided several extra percent worth of gratuities for the serving staff there taking the total to I would estimate Tip level of 18 to 20% of the bill, as a gesture of genuinely appreciative thanks to the staffs, amazing hospitality yesterday evening. Thanks: Manager Eddy, staffers Nicole- Jing n Tracey - and the beautiful, gracious lady owner (Lily) too!

The service was good. The waiting staff were attentive even though we were tucked away from the main area. The range of dim sum is acceptable under this offer. We ordered 9 dim sum between the 3 of us. The food came swiftly yet still hot in temperature. I wouldn't say the dim sum were exceptionally great but still very good. Good quality and portion size is good and the taste is genuine. The main course took only 5 mins to arrive, dim sums take a bit longer. It’s was amongst the best Chinese Dimsum, roasted duck and noodles we have ever had. Since our last Hongkong visit 10 years back this was the next best…One thing that stood out was that this place is visited by only Chinese visitors and this speaks about its genuinely authentic taste and quality. Service initially was a bit slow but once we chatted up with our server she was really good. I guess it was so busy that 3 ladies covering the entire restaurant is not enough to deliver a prompt n efficient service. Still, it’s definitely a must visit if you want to enjoy some good Chinese food in Manchester.

Very good, authentic, Chinese food. Everything was very tasty, but the Crispy Pork and the Pork Belly with vegetables are particularly nice. As is the Peking Hot & Sour soup

Food is general. The services are general too noise. The food charge is a little bit trick. E.g 12 pound for any 3 dimsums depend on your selection. Take care

Pinwei, so the rumours say, is known for its duck. It's a restaurant in a more modern Hong Kong style, having ditched the nostalgic red carpets, the fish tank and the gilded dragon and phoenix of its previous incarnation in favour of a hard white floor and pale coloured furnishings. The restaurant is in the basement, and the only access is down a set of stairs. The hard flooring in the restaurant is also problematic; it's the kind of smooth surface that gradually forms a layer of grease throughout service until you can skate on it. Toilets involve more stairs. It's a venue that is incredibly problematic for anyone with a physical disability, and impossible on wheels. The duck probably *is* good, but with sauces and pre blended spices that make most dishes taste exactly the same as anywhere else in Chinatown. Still, knowing there will be no surprises can be exactly what you're looking for! Uncomplicated, robust dishes for sharing, with unfussy, practical service, just as you'd expect.

Raced up in the car and made it to Manchester in three hours. Checked in and more or less ran to Pinwei as I really wanted DimSum and I know it’s a lunch only thing. Well, we made it in plenty of time (12-4 for their superb value dim sum lunch offer) and as usual despite it being full we were soon led to a table. Brilliant food , brilliant place and to top it off excellent value for money. Love it!!!

Update on their reply: - Incompetency, bad service, and rudeness is one thing but lying as a professional establishment, in your response, is a new low. You DID offer discount in return for a favourable review (whilst being watched doing it) when you first opened. Secondly, it was NOT busy *at all* when the food took 1hr 30mins to arrive, which is why it was so shocking. The occupancy at the time was around 50-60%. There are alot of completely empty tables. Moreover, even if that was the case (which it wasnt), a simple 'sorry for the wait' would have been respectful, but you simply dumped the food on the table without a word. I would also like to clarify I visited on two separate occasions. The first time was when you first opened, and I left a 1 star review it was SO BAD. This was a few years ago. The second time was a few weeks ago, unfortunately with a different group - with one individual suggesting this place and I totally forgot it was this awful restaurant until I turned up. Nonetheless, despite having an open mind for that second time, I was let down even further. I would give two 1 star reviews if I could. There are much better alternatives in Chinatown - please I recommend visitors to avoid wasting their time and money to visit elsewhere. Review: One of the worst places I've ever been to. The number of 1 star reviews speak for themselves. Waited 1hr 30 mins for food! And the restaurant wasn't even busy. The food was really bad quality. Disgusting. They also run a promotion where you have post a story saying how good their food is/review to get a discount off your bill, and they watch you do it (at least with us they did). Service was RUDE. Noodles were a completely different type of noodles from the menu and they said they didn't have the noodles in stock *after* we challenged them after the dish arrived. They then said it's because all their food photos are not proprietary and are downloaded from the internet so isn't necessarily what the dish looks like. Pancakes were dry, hard, and flavourless. The tofu , half came cold in the dish and the other half warm. There are alot of improvements to food quality needed to be successful, and by creating fantastic food, good reviews and word of mouth promotion will come naturally, not forced by a monetary incentive (10-15%) to put down a good reviews/posts when really the food is not good.

Hands down, some of the best food I’ve had recently! They use the freshest ingredients and make sure each dish is done the right way. The Crayfish with ginger and spring onion and steamed razor clam with vermicelli were especially memorable. Must try.
