Picnic Coffee Shop in Edinburgh, City of

Been here a few times as I live in the area. yesterday was appalling... I got served tea with milk and should have been without. I went to the counter and politely asked the chap with the black beard for a replacement, he looked so angry and didn't even apologise! he shouted when the new one was done and it was so hot I had to leave it for 10 minutes to cool down only to be told they closed in 15 minutes.. (apparently the dishwasher was also broken and it was in a takeaway cup) there were clean cups on top of the coffee machine. I don't know about you, but tea in a paper cup isn't my cup of tea. Not the first time that my friends received bad service and rudeness. If you don't like your job, go find another and leave the paying customers away for the drama in your head inflicted onto us.

I’ve been coming here for the last couple years from when they used to be on the high street and now the kiosk by the bridges. They have an amazing selection of both non-vegetarian and vegetarian sandwiches/soups etc. The owners are so so lovely, kind and friendly. They are very passionate and it shows in their food. I’ve never been disappointed - ciabattas and paninis are delicious!! Definitely worth a trip rain or shine and beautifully situated by the bridges. Ample free parking and scenic views make this one of our favourite places in south queensferry where the high st is so congested.

Such a lovely little place to stop for some much needed hot food and hot chocolate to warm up in the snow! Food is of excellent quality and the Luxury Hot Chocolate was amazing 😍 Staff were all very nice too, especially the younger girl who, bless her, spilled tea on herself (hope you're okay!)

We've visited several times and keep meaning to write a review, so here we are! The Picnic is warm and welcoming and the staff are clearly well trained by the owners (who are always around and working) to give the customer a memorable visit. The food is freshly prepared to order and delivered to your table piping hot, as are the coffees and teas etc. We've enjoyed breakfast and lunches here - in the warmer months (weeks) we can sit outside and observe the comings and goings of SQ which is a great place to live and to visit.

Stopped here after discovering Queensferry, was exactly what we needed after a short walk around the harbour. Catered really well for people of all dietary needs and they are happy to acommodate, really surprised they had vegan cheese, worked nicely in my delicious panini. Without a doubt, nicest place in Queensferry for a short break, staff are very welcoming and caring makes the whole thing a genuine gem of a rest. Will deffo return

We came to South Queensferry on our way home on New Year's Eve. Every where was very busy so we felt very lucky to get a table here. The service was prompt and friendly and the menu was just right for lunch. The drinks and food came quickly, the scones were very good and the verdict on the haggis rolls was so positive that my sister is going to try to make her own.Great value for money.

While we came to the area we thought we would drop in at the coffee shop to get a warm drink. The service was very welcoming and very good service. Also lovely coffee. Also the food looked amazing.

Prior to arriving in S. Queensferry we had done some research on TA to give an idea of what to expect in terms of tea-shops/cafés. All of the establishments along the High street seemed to get very positive reviews on paper, so we had high expectations for our visit to the Picnic Coffee Shop. Small interior and good selection of cakes on display. We ordered scones with jam and cream together with drinks. Weather was OK, so we sat outside to eat our order. Over the years we have sampled many scones from numerous locations, and one can immediately tell a good from a bad one. Don’t know whether this was an off day, but the scones did not taste home-made – more like a defrosted one which was cold in the middle. Despite this setback, the place had very clean toilets and very pleasant staff. Perhaps it was just an off day?

3rd visit. Great little Italian daytime cafe selling soups, hot food, salads, sandwiches, cakes and great coffee. I loved the ciabatta sandwich with guanciale. Cured pork cheek with a unique flavour, completely different to pancetta or proscuitto. Thumbs up.

Solo descubrí que este pequeño café ofrecía sin gluten el último día de nuestras vacaciones, si hubiéramos sabido antes, habríamos probado algunos trozos más que tenían. A medida que avanzaba, teníamos un pastel sin gluten de los cuales tenían una buena selección de pasteles preenvasados. El menú tiene paninis y patatas de chaqueta, las damas parecían tener conocimiento de celíacos, así que creo que podrían atender bien. Mi otra mitad, que no es celíaca, tenía un bollo que dijo que era encantador y que había una buena selección de otros pasteles en oferta. No está demasiado mal en lo que respecta a los cafés en estos días, incluso si el tipo detrás de nosotros se quejaba de pagar 5. 50 por una tostada (¡He visto peores precios!)

No hay falta de elección en Queensferry, pero siempre obtengo mi café y almuerzo de Picnic. Cuando no sé qué tener, Franka siempre da buenos consejos. Ella y Francesco forman un equipo fantástico y todo el personal es amable.Si estoy con mi familia, los niños siempre son bienvenidos y directamente involucrados, lo que lamentablemente no sucede lo suficiente en otros lugares.La comida es deliciosa con porciones generosas y siempre bien presentada, incluso para llevar.Utilizo Picnic para proporcionar catering para eventos para mi negocio local y los asistentes siempre elogian la comida.Una verdadera joya local!

Qué suerte tengo de vivir en South Queensferry y tener una buena variedad de cafeterías para visitar. La cafetería Picnic está entre las mejores de la historia. De tamaño pequeño pero ofrece excelentes bollos de café para hornear y comida caliente. Es fácil pasar por alto vigilarlo, está sobre tu cabeza mientras caminas por el pueblo

My wife found the coffe shop using trip advisor and we popped in for an early lunch, the place was busy but ticking along nicely although I did later get told they were short staffed that day so that was the reason for the slight delay in our food arriving, no problem, were in holiday and had nowhere to be!

Visit regularly as live locally and would always recommend this cosy friendly place for coffee and a tasty lunch. Lots of GF options and milk alternatives so doesn't limit you. The focaccia is delicious and they use freshly cuts meats. Service is also spot on!

We wanted a place to stop for lunch. We were with our two children (3 & 7), and straight away after walking in, we felt appreciated and welcomed. We were shown to a table and instantly the girls were being spoken to directly.

Small place. Food freshly prepared to eat in or go. Decent prices. Lovely home made soup, good menu. Staff all very welcoming

Its been a while since I ate here and I absolutely loved the soup and bread I was served last week. The owners (Franco and Franca?) are lovely and make you feel very welcome even if you haven't been in for a while. The Picnic is such a fabulously welcoming cafe and well worth a visit. Some of the italian cakes and meats and so very tasty - you wont regret going.

We had a stop here for a quick take away sandwich. I had a ciabatta with roasted veggies and mozzarella. Really good and not expansive at all! Really nice staff also.

We ate here while waiting to go on Maid of the Forth boat trip. What a good choice. The coffee shop is quite small and we had a large pram with us for the little one, but there was plenty of seating outside which suited us nicely.

Called in today with my wife and 2 girls for a light lunch while on holiday.

This was our first visit to the Picnic Coffee shop. We were served by the very pleasant owner. Coffee was very good but the paradise cake was dry. A bit disappointing but a nice quaint cafe.

Ein kleines gemütliches Cafe für den großen und kleinen Hunger. Ob Frühstück oder zum Mittag auch was herzhaftes, es ist eine große Auswahl. Dieses mal waren wir zum Mittag da, die Sandwiches oder auch Paninis werden frisch zubereitet. Es gibt verschiedene Optionen ob es beim Flavoured Latte ist oder bei der Beilage.

There is no doubt that this is a very good cafe and an added bonus is that it is in a lovely location overlooking the Forth and the “three bridges”. It is no surprise therefore that it is very popular and gets very busy, so finding a seat can be a tad problematic at peak times.

Delicious, great value for money and fantastic service! 10/10 would recommend! My friend said it was the best hot chocolate she had ever had. Cappuccino was beautiful and the focaccia was amazing! Cakes looked stunning but I was too full to try - will definitely be back next time I’m in South Queensferry!

We visited this shop and have done repeatedly - the staff remember you. They value you and give you eye contact. They make fresh products and yes they might run out but the coffee is totally Italian and the cakes are to die for. I have purchased sandwiches to go and they always deliver a high quality product with fresh salad, cheese and meats. If you want processed fast food and packeted soups go to the supermarket but if you want a charming place to rest this is it. There is a loyalty card too

We visited this lovely little cafe on Monday for lunch and it was fab! Gorgeous Italian sandwiches and homemade soup - would def recommend!

Staff are friendly, welcoming and efficient. The menu is varied with a fusion of traditional Scottish and Italian choices. Lovely salad options; great hot rolls and lots of delicious sweet treats. Everything is fresh and beautifully presented. The coffee is excellent, and the cappuccino is the best ever. A gem of a coffee shop.

Coffee poor. Tea pale. Soup off. Roast vegetables off. Baked potatoes off. Ciabati OK. Staff fine. Owner did offer to make fresh soup so perhaps staff more than fine.

Just visited this small cafe yesterday. Lovely friendly service and some good options for vegans. Oat milk (yum) , vegan cheese (yay!). My vegetarian and non veg friends were happy with the soup and sandwiches too.

Was out for a drive with a friend, and popped in here for lunch.Everything we had was lovely. Soup, filled focaccia, toastie, cakes and really great coffee.Sandwiches were made fresh to order. Service was friendly and efficient. The people looked like they were probably the owners, and actually cared whether you enjoyed it . Was our first visit, but hopefully not our last.Great prices too.

Popped in for lunch with my partner, it is a small cafe, but we were able to get a table. Great range of sandwiches and cakes, Coffee was delicious as were the cakes we had to accompany it. Service was quick and friendly, will definitely be back.

It;s the third time I went there. Even if it was late and they were on the verge to close, we could have a very big pot of tea and delicious scones with jam and butter or clotted cream. The staff is very welcoming. I strongly recommand this nice cafe.

Visited on a chilly October day. Opted for the soup which was delicious. Coffee was very good too. Friendly staff and good service.

This cafe is stylish and oozes excellence. It is a refreshing change to the multi branch chains one often comes across. On arrival we were presented with a bottle of tap water and two glasses while we both perused the menu. We went for the roasted pepper soup which came with lovely warm bread and butter. I also had a haggis cheese and bacon roll which was scrumptious. We finished off with a big pot of tea made with real leaves and not bags. All in all a solid 5/5. Would I go back? Can’t wait.

Cosy, relaxed atmosphere in the coffee shop with very tasty cakes, lovely selection of coffees and food and the staff are so welcoming.

Sitting on the high path above the busy road running through South Queensferry you will find this excellent coffee shop. My wife and I sat at an outside table where we were able to admire the Forth Rail bridge and also people watch.

Called in on a rather dreich day for a warm up. The food was all fresh and tasty, the potato soup was particularly nice. The highlight was the coffee, really fresh and tasty, definitely worth another visit just for the coffee alone. The staff were all really helpful and friendly.

Lovely coffee shop in Queensferry South with a nice view of the bridges from across the cobbled road. Great coffee, really great coffee with a range of snacks, sandwiches (made to order), etc etc. Friendly staff with comfy surroundings. Worth a visit if you are here to view the bridge or take the ferry.

I came here for some lunch with my family and we were impressed. I had the tomato and pepper soup and a toasted italian chicken sandwich deal and I have to say the soup was one of the best I've tasted. It was delicious. My family had paninis and sandwiches with lots of fillings to choose from. Teas, coffees and a range of cakes to choose from for after if you have any room. Definitely worth a visit.

Lovely food great panini and yummy cakes and the staff so friendly and helpful just wish there was more seating outside in the summer. A real gem

My wife and I spent 2 weeks in the U.K. and visited several coffee shops. This is by far the best coffee and people place on the island, we visited!

We had lunch here on a recent visit and were very pleased with the service and food quality. It's a small cafe with indoor and outdoor seating and also offers a takeaway option. We ordered a ciabatta and baked potato - both came with an option of a side order of crisps or salad and were reasonably priced too. If you are looking for somewhere for coffee or a light lunch, this would be the ideal spot.

My friend and I visited today for afternoon tea. Lovely attentive staff, nothing was too much trouble. Choice of tea or coffee. We had a large pot of Earl Gray.

I love this little cafe! Been here several times for breakfast and lunch. The food is fresh and made to order and the portions are definitely value for money. The staff are really friendly and give excellent service.

First visit and will not be the last. Warm welcome, friendly staff, Spotlessly clean. Opted for a lunch bag for £5 which included a soft drink, Mackies crisps, a tray bake and toastie. Excellent value. Loved the nice touch with the bags having a hand printed logo. Next time I will sit in or sit on the outdoor terrace and try one of the lovely looking fresh cakes.

There are a few choices of locations for lunch in S.ferry but if its something simple and fresh made then cant go wrong with this place.

So friendly and welcoming for locals and tourists alike. I enjoyed my mid-morning cuppa and light snack. A menu with Scottish and Italian influences. Spotlessly clean. Helpful sightseeing advice (I was looking to walk out to Hopetoun House). Very highly recommended.

The service levels were personal and heartfelt - we loved it here! The food was prepared freshly (barring the cakes, and I did indulge), and I would advocate anyone visiting here to pop in for a feed.

Visited on saturday for lunch. Fresh water brought go table straight away. Ordered soup & sandwich combo. The soup was so delicious & sandwiches freshly made too.

This is a lovely wee cafe on the main road along the coast. The owners and staff are friendly and you always are made to feel welcome. Food and drinks are superb. The bacon and scrambled egg roll is so tasty! Also the delightful Espresso coffee with vanilla ice cream! Tasty and cooling on a rare hot Scottish day!!

Visited Sunday lunchtime. Lovely wee coffee shop, very clean and plenty tables. Staff were very friendly and welcoming and attentive. Menu good very choice and prices reasonable. They do takeaway sandwiches too. Would definitely return when passing through South Queensferry again. Soup/sandwich deal excellent value for money.

This is a quality gaff. Friendly Sicilian staff, great coffee and food. Prices were fair, waiter was friendly without being over attentive. Highly recommended.

3 of us vIsited for the first time today and were all very impressed. Friendly welcome and great service with very high standard of food. We sat for quite a long time after our sandwiches happily chatting before deciding to order cakes but I’m glad to say we were not hurried up to either order something else or to leave so to me this was a big plus. We all intend to visit again

I contacted Francesco at Picnic to enquire if they could cater for my wife's special birthday party. No problem, he put together a fantastic tailor made buffet menu at a very reasonable price and delivered everything to the house on the day.

Visited here today just about lunchtime. Busy with walkers, bikers and tourists getting out in the spring sunshine.

Being frozen from the biting easterly off the coast I ventured here to thaw out. My first visit knowing nothing about the place (it's on the main street, green and white signage). Coffee was splendid, the recommendation of the apricot tartlette was spot on. Great to have a variety of nations & languages under one small roof as well. It's not a big place but well worth the effort with staff who take the time & are clearly invested in the place.

Been in twice now and on both occasions been made very welcome as soon as through the front door by all three who work in the coffee shop. The staff are first class as is the food. Spotlessly clean inside and would thoroughly recommend this as your first stop in South Queensferry for a bite to eat.

Friendly Oalian style coffee shop selling light bites ....a delicious bowl,of soup served with a warm ciabatta roll scrummy yummy and then coffees that were perfect I am so fussy about coffee and only take half a shot but thins was perfection in a cup for me

Live locally and popped in one Saturday morning hungover, without a doubt one the best bacon and egg rolls I’ve ever had. Extremely fresh and not greasy. Will definitely be back!!

Locale ideale per una merenda, per un pranzo o semplicemente per una bevanda calda. I prodotti proposti sono freschi e fatti sul momento, buonissimi i panini e le focacce, ma anche la zuppa che ogni giorno è diversa. Ampia scelta di dolci e biscotti. Molti prodotti sono italiani e freschi! Consigliatissimo!

We take our granddaughter here for lunch after school. The welcome is great and the owner is superb with children. There is a special offer on the menu for children which ticks all the boxes. We get good food too. The soup,panini,sandwiches are all good with lots of fillings to choose from. You can sit and watch all the fresh food being prepared. There is carry out too.

This was a great find which has a lovely selection of food at lunch time. The place is busy and is worth waiting for a table if none free. Reasonably priced and friendly staff.

Locale molto carino e accogliente, offre diverse specialità non solo scozzesi ma anche italiane e sarde. É possibile mangiare zuppe, panini, focacce, caffetteria e cappuccini anche con latte di soia, piatti per vegani, caffè selezionato direttamente dai titolari, unico nel gusto, ampia scelta di torte e biscotti. Sicuramente da provare per gustare il cibo comodamente seduti all'interno!

Looking for somewhere to have lunch whilst In South Queensferry we stumbled across this small, busy establishment. We found the last table available and placed our order. The staff were very busy but always took time to see to the customers. Food wise I had the Haggis, Bacon and cheese sandwich and a tea. It was absolutely delicious. My wife was equally impressed with her lunch

Passing through South Queensferry and decided to stop for some lunch. A good choice of places to eat but this little gem was ideal for us. Focaccia with prosciutto and mozzarella was as fresh and tasty as could be.

Popped in for breakfast and it was well worth lugging the buggy up the small stairs! Staff were so friendly and the food was outstanding - would definitely recommend. Really reasonable pricing too

Been here before and liked it and now it has new owners it's still good. Cafe's had a makeover and the food now has an Italian flavour but with old favourites still on the menu. It's small, only 6 tables inside and 2 outside but turns over quickly and also does takeaway. We had no problem getting a seat and the coffee was delicious, Will be back soon to try some of the food.

Having just walked across the old Forth Road Bridge, we were hungry and thirsty. Thank goodness we found Picnic Coffee Shop. Fantastic homemade soup, sandwich to order and very good coffee. They were gearing up for the opening of the new Queensferry Crossing, with the Queen in attendance, a few days later. I hope they had lots of customers. Highly recommended. Great service with a smile too.

I had an excellent large cappuccino here, which came in a mug. There was nothing on top (chocolate, cinnamon, etc.) but it was sublimely smooth and eminently quaffable. If I lived in South Queensferry I could easily become addicted to Picnic's coffee. I had a fruit scone with it, which was very nice and came with tasty jam.

I had a short stop in South Queensferry and was immediately enticed in with the menu. The Scottish Italian mix had me sold. The food did not disappoint. The prosciutto on the focaccia was so so good. Fresh and full of flavor. the homemade soup to was incredible, hot the spot. The staff are very warm and welcoming and take such pride in there work and it really shows. Thoroughly recommend this little beauty. Just wish it was a bit closer.

We called here whilst walking The John Muir Way. Coffee was superb and food was tasty. All staff were very friendly and welcoming. We would definitely recommend and hope to return soon.

We popped in here for warm drinks & cake after a wet cold cruise and we were SO glad we did. What a lovely place! The staff were so welcoming and chatty...the luxury hot chocolate is yummy and the home baking delicious. Would highly recommend popping in! We will definitely be back

As the address suggests bang in the middle of South Queensferry and on the main street. Nice small terrace with a few tables and chairs to enjoy the sunshine. Friendly helpful staff and a great selection of sandwiches, cakes etc... and top quality too. Highly recommended.

A friendly welcome at the Picnic Cafe after a sailing trip on the Firth of Forth. Loved the feel of the place, nice touch being given a bottle of water and glasses when we arrived. Great view of the Firth from our window seat too. Thank you.

The young waitress serving us really made our visit , she was so friendly and service was fast. The food was a reasonable price with a fair selection to choose from. When it came there was plenty of it and it was very tasty. We'd certainly visit again.

We had a quick lunch here on Friday 30th June and the menu hit the spot perfectly. We were in a group of 4 adults and a baby, and we were all able to get something to suit us perfectly from a light sandwich, to an Italian meat feast panini, to a scone and a bowl of soup for the baby.
