As walk-in customers, we were pleasantly surprised to find a table available for us. While the service inside was satisfactory, it met our expectations. The menu features a variety of dishes at affordable prices, and regardless of personal preference, the flavors are undeniably traditional. We indulged in desserts, and the standout favorite was the delightful "cheesecake with coconut”, and it is better with an espresso.

Beautiful food, lots of flavour. Decent portions and lovely staff. Meatball starter was really nice, highly recommend

First, I didn’t have a reservation and they managed to squeeze me in. They were quick and attentive to answering questions about my allergies. I got the carbonara and OMG was it amazing! I ate every bite. It was so fantastic! I recommend having a reservation so you can enjoy this place!

Mamma Roma, unfortunately, fails to deliver on the promise of authentic Italian charm. The staff seemed disinterested and disengaged, creating a lackluster atmosphere that undermined the dining experience. The garlic bread arrived looking forlorn, with a pale and uninspired appearance that matched its bland flavor. As for the carbonara, while the portion was generous, it was overcooked to the point where the sauce began to curdle, losing the creamy texture of the dish. While the restaurant may have potential, the inattentive service and subpar food leave much to be desired. It’s hard to recommend Mamma Roma in its current state.

The staff are lovely! Very friendly and helpful. However, the food is extremely over priced for what you get. The set Christmas menus were pretty boring, tbh. Everyone in our group ordered from the set menu instead. Their only saving grace was how lovely the tirimisu was. The price of the food is unjustifiable. I highly *don't* recommend this restaurant.

I could write loads of wonderful things but I am going to keep it short and sweet. Fantastic food, great service and very accommodating for our staff night out (group of 12.) Highly recommend this gem of a place, will most definitely be back

Excellent restaurant! Service was fast and efficient. Unfortunately I did not catch the young waitors name, however he was just fabulous. Nothing was too much trouble. Food was superb. It took a little while to arrive, but it was definitely worth the wait. I really enjoyed my pizza and dessert. It is definitely worth a little time to enjoy fresh and delicious food. Truely one of the best meals we have ever had. Staff we're amazing and very accommadating even when we did not have a table booked. Food was piping hot and delicious. Cheesecake was amazing also. Highly recommended if you love italian food!

The service was very nice the servers filled Up your water and in general just good service for the food the risotto di mar is great and the food portions made It my moneys worth the boloneñese had a good ratio of sauce and spaghetti. Something weird that I happened I was sitting Next to a muslim couple then they asked for some Tabasco really didnt think much of It until I Saw how they poured half a bottle of Tabasco on a normal chesse pizza I think the tabasco bottle was 1L so ban those guys from Italy. Overall I recommend

Terrible service, one waiter rolled eyes at us when we asked for another seat while another made it seem like it was a complete chore to interact with us. When asked a question same waiter walked away huffing ignoring our question while walking into the kitchen. Guy with glasses should NOT be serving customers. Otherwise staff was nice, shame for a terrible member of the team to let down the whole experience

The waiters are very rude and the service is very bad. The salad was very tasteless and bad. Pasta and pizza are also mediocre. I think you should never go. There are much more beautiful Italians than this.

We ate here before the Samhuinn Fire Festival. The atmosphere was very friendly and homely, the waiters and staff were all great. We ended up ordering the pizza and pasta which is a great idea when you can’t decide which one you want can’t believe it’s not an option in other places.

Without doubt the best Italian food I've tasted anywhere in the world. Superb friendly service, reasonable prices, great atmosphere. This is now our 'must visit' on any theatre trip to Edinburgh. Thank you all.

Both my mum and I have coeliac and require gluten free food. First time night in Edinburgh and ate out at Mamma Roma. Unfortunately, they didn’t have gf dough to make pizzas however, their risotto e salsiccia and pasta dela cassa were freshly done and very tasty followed by mouth watering berry sorbet. Lovely waiters and atmosphere. Highly recommend.

We were lost where to eat one evening whilst in Edinburgh last week, we randomly came upon Mamma Roma, and oh my, we were blown away!! Firstly, the service was impeccable. They were fast, they were friendly. They even remembered how much we enjoyed the cheesecake, that when we came back a second time they reminded us about it! Talking of cheesecake, the food was amazing. I haven't been to Italy, but I want to visit just going off of the food here. Everything was delicious. The first night we had a spicy foccacia to share, followed by carbonara and a penne dish. The second visit we had the garlic foccacia followed by another penne dish and another carbonara. No complaints. If you're in Edinburgh, please, go here. Like, straight away.

Wonderful meal with family last night, the food was amazing, we all had starters and a main each and everything was unbelievably tasty. The staff are so friendly and helpful, we will definitely return next time we visit Edinburgh.

Table for four, booked online for a 9pm sitting. A widespread menu catering for different tastes (meat, fish, pasta, pizza). The dishes of our party included the focaccia bread as a starter, this was outstanding and appeared to be freshly baked. The mains included paccheri pasta with fennel based Italian sausage in a rich tomato sauce; this was my choice and was so glad it was. Could not fault any of the meals in either taste or portion size. We all thoroughly enjoyed, a great dining experience of hearty home style cooking.

A suspicious welcome. Delicious dishes and servers, as tender as the parmigianno which was served to us directly on the plate. I'm being flirted with. Despite everything, I would have preferred to have the server serve me directly on the plate.

This is a lovely friendly Italian restaurant. Great service and great food at good price. There was 12 of us in our group and food all came out together and everyone enjoyed it.

Not quite 4 for the food 3.8 /5 Lovely intimate Italian restaurant. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I ordered the mussels, felt the portion was a little small for the price. Had lovely fresh cherry tomatoes. Subtle tomato and herb flavour, lacked some seasoning. Found the same with the seafood tagliatelle, lacked some seasoning to bring out the flavours of the seafood. Good variety of seafood in the dish . But found the portion was a bit small compared to my partner who had the same dish.I like some spice in my food, the spicy olive oil that was provided was weak. Overall an ok Italian, the service was the out standing, and nothing seemed too much trouble for them . They accept both card and card. Service charge was not automatically added. I was happily to give them a tip. Good service and prompt for early Saturday evening

Nice food although the portion of calamari was super small,lasagna and pizza were delicious.Awful service though,the waitress who welcomed me andy son at the door have had a look at us (I was straight from uni) as we were not dressed accurately.Well it is not dress code required restaurant,felt judge,we were not checked if the food was alright.Obviously poor manners,I am discouraged from visiting again

First time here. Went for a colleagues leaving meal. 17 of us! All of us seated within minutes of arriving. Didn't wait long on getting asked if we wanted drinks. Food was served quickly (we had pre-ordered), and it was good. Staff were friendly and quick to serve/clear food/dishes.

Lovely place for food, great range of choice with it all being Italian. Very friendly staff and good price for central Edinburgh. Would highly recommend to everyone!

Hearty Italian place with wide selection of pastas, pizzas and meat dishes. Service was alright, but it did feel like some of the waiters were deliberately not making eye contact, hence we had to wait awhile to order our food.

The food was nice, especially my pizza was good (we shared pizza & pasta). The pasta dish with fennel sausage was okay, but not a great experience, even though it came under mum's recommendations. The waiters were.. yes.. Italian. Maybe you should work a little more with LEAN (workflow), as well as a more flat and less hierarchical work culture and friendly service mindset, instead of a slightly snooty attitude.

First time for lunch and it was amazing I walked by this restaurant many times and it’s a few steps up and missed it. I’m glad I tried it today. Soup was nice and hot Fish was amazing and the waiters are very helpful and friendly. Highly recommended

My first time visiting Mamma Roma and it definitely won't be the last, we thoroughly enjoyed the great food and the welcoming and attentive staff were lovely.

A mid-level restaurant. We tried margarita pizza and ravioli but it wasn't very wow. We went directly from the airport with our suitcases in hand. Even though the restaurant was quite empty, they sat us at a ridiculous table in the corner, we couldn't understand why.

Me and my Boyfriend came here for dinner yesterday and it was one of the nicest places we have ever eaten. food was amazing and staff were very attentive, taking away empty glasses as soon as they were done etc. service was also the quickest we have ever received !

Really lovely staff and great service but we felt the food was hit and miss. The fried seafood starter was tasty. Pasta stuffed with pumpkin was delicious as was a spaghetti Bolognese but we found the pizza and calzone we ordered were not properly cooked so were very "doughy". But all in all a nice evening.

From the first moment, friendly, exquisite and familiar treatment. Excellent food in capital letters. We stayed several days and we were able to try the pasta, the pizzas,... everything was magnificent. Highly recommended

Oh my goodness!!!!! This was simply the best Lasagna I’ve had in a very very long time. You HAVE to eat here when in Edinburgh. Everything about this restaurant is perfect. I could t finish my meal so I took half back to the hotel to eat later in the day. Their take-away boxes are even perfect. I could put it in my purse and absolutely no problems with transporting these delicious left-overs. Hubby’s Pollo Caprese was also a hit. Thank you Mamma Roma!!!!!!

Came here with my wife after watching Jimmy Carr, however the waiter who served us, couldn't have been anymore rude if he'd tried. My wife wasn't that hungry, so just had a wine, I had a pizza and a beer, he seemed horrified at such a small order, and almost seemed to get the hump about this, to which his attitude changed dramatically. Next time we do the Playhouse, we certainly won't be coming back here, the atmosphere was pretty dull as well to be honest.

Very good and authentic Italian food. If you want a good Italian cafe, this is the place for you.

I came in to eat by myself and the host called me honey and refused to seat me. He had some issue with me because I was alone. He didn't even offer to put me on the wait list, while there were clearly empty tables in the restaurant. This rude man shouldn't be working with the public.

Lovely food and service, only thing that we found confusing is there are two entrances right next to each other but the two areas aren't connected so we went to the wrong entrance to meet the person we were eating with and the staff there were confused when we asked where this person was.
