This is my now my favourite Italian restaurant at Birmingham!! My partner and I went in for a second time and were seated immediately - actually we did book online but we were still seated immediately which was nice. The food is absolutely amazing and super flavourful. It is a little bit on the expensive side but it is totally worth it! The portion size is great and the hospitality from the staff is lovely. I had a really good experience with Bea - she’s super nice and very attentive . I was stuck on what to order as it was off the menu and she helped me with a lush dish! With a smile on her face too! xx

We only came for dessert and we weren't disappointed, my daughter had tiramisu which she absolutely loved and I had the Panna cotta which was perfect and especially lovely on such a warm day, our server Kristina was wonderful and very helpful and they didn't seem annoyed that we only had dessert.

Visited for a date night last week—our first time visiting. We love Italian food, and I wanted something a bit different from the usual spots. The food was delicious. I ordered the Wagyu and Truffle Lasagne, which was rich and full of flavor—worth the hype! My partner had the seafood pasta and said it was perfectly cooked. Service was friendly, though a bit slow at times. But overall, we had a great time and would definitely go back for a special night out.

A really disappointing experience for an "upscale" restaurant. We were seated quickly. However, it took nearly 15 minutes for our drinks order to be taken. We only ordered a can of ginger beer and bottle of coke - both of which took another 15 minutes to arrive. We ordered the Tonnarelli Carbonara, which arrived within about 3 minutes ordering of it. The only thing fresh about it was the waves of disappointment I experienced as I realised what I'd paid nearly £20 for. The serving was big enough for maybe a small toddler. Or someone's spoilt handbag dog. Parts of the carbonara were boiling hot whilst other parts were stone cold. It was as it had been poorly reheated in a microwave (which would explain how it'd been served so quickly, as in my experience you can't make carbonara fresh in under 3 minutes). Not once did a waiter check on our table, even though they checked on other tables around us. Normally I wouldn't complain about these things as I understand how difficult things can get when a restaurant is busy, but the restaurant wasn't that busy at all. It felt slightly racially targeted that other patrons around us were being waited on whilst we weren't. This was such a disappointing experience given that my experience with the sister restaurant Riva Blu has only been positive before. The price did not reflect the quality of the experience and I wouldn't go again unfortunately.

Great meal at Piccolino, we booked in the evening and were seated after a short wait. We were well catered for. My partner has a gluten allergy and was able to have a really tasty pizza and my ravioli was delicious. Rafael’s service was efficient and friendly, he was helpful and attentive without being overly invasive. Highly recommend the place

We had a lovely experience at lunch, much different from our 1st experience of the restaurant when we went on a Saturday "pay day" night when the staff we under extreme pressure, used glasses stacked up on the bar and a lot of food unavailable. Anna made our second experience of the restaurant an absolute delight. She was professional, friendly and very efficient. She was knowledgeable about recommendations on the menu and attentive to our needs. We both had starters and our main courses of the Tagliatelle salmon and wagu lasagne were fantastic. After such a service bad experience the first time it was the food that bought us back to experience it a second time. Delicious!!! Although I did have a desert, greedy I know, I can highly recommend the tiramisu martini as an alternative if you've no room left for a desert. Lunch on a Tuesday was quiet so we will go back on an evening to gauge the service experience, but I like the place and especially the food. Thank you to the chef.

Jesus Christ this place is absolutely shocking. Got seated straight away which wasn’t an issue however the service was absolutely shocking. I understand it might have been a little bit busy on bank holiday Monday but the staff are absolutely lazy and useless. I requested for the waiter to take my order and they said they would be back in a couple minutes. No one has came back in which I had to ask another waiter to take my order. This waiter also didn’t come back. The third time I ensured the waiter to take my order there and then. So we ordered 2 pasta dishes and 2 pizzas. Took about 45 mins to come out however as I was sat opposite the cooking station I must insist the food was let out on the hot plate for a good ten minutes as I could here the chef shouting at the other kitchen members to not leave the food out. Never the less they bought the food over to our take and our pasta was lukewarm and the pizza was just stale. Such a shame really as we have high expectations for a place like this. Will definitely be writing a complaint to the manager for the poor service. I’ve added a picture of the kitchen staff who couldn’t care less sat on there phone while I was waiting 45 mins for our food to arrive to our table

This restaurant is beautiful! And I was looking forward to dining here as I have a list of places I am working my way through. I booked this as part of my anniversary celebrations and was highly disappointed. Our table was not ready when we arrived which is fine - we went to the bar, but waited ages to be served despite 5 people being behind the bar and I was constantly knocked and nudged by a rude member of staff. I then had to go back to question when we would be seated after 15/20 minutes to the be directed to what was probably the worst seats in there which my partner promptly refused only to be taken across to the other side where there were 3 empty tables! The food wasn't great and was very small portions so much so I didn't really bother take pictures. With any other restaurant I've been to for an occasion it's usually celebrated with staff with a message being written on the dessert plate etc - nothing of the sort here. Overall it was just a disappointment. Feel like it was just a more elegant nandos

Delicious Italian food! Large range of different dishes , including gluten free. I thought that the ingredients were fresh and well cooked making the food really tasty! The restaurant is spacious, with tables well spread out. The atmosphere was great. The staff were all very nice. The service was really efficient even if the place was busy! We were served by Anna, and we thought she was really kind and welcoming ! We had a lovely evening!

We came for my mother-in-law’s 80th. And I’m not going to do mother-in-law jokes here. I could. Lord knows I could. But frankly, the restaurant did them all for me. Every tired, uninspired, phoned-in, family-gathering cliché was catered for—except, ironically, the catering. Now, on the face of it, Piccolino looks the part. Stylish even. There’s a low golden glow, waiters in the regulation waistcoats, and the usual interior designer’s salad of marble, brass, and botanical tat. Plastic plants dangle from the ceiling like a housewife’s dream of the Amalfi Coast. You could almost be convinced. Almost. But then things begin to unravel. Slowly at first. A thread here, a fray there. Our table is one place setting short. Not a huge problem, unless you’re the person standing awkwardly, clutching a gift bag, wondering if the table’s just gaslighting you. And yes, it’s a Friday night, but the restaurant is half empty. A few lonely couples, a business dinner dying quietly in the corner. It should have been buzzing. It was barely idling. Drinks take forever. Long enough that you begin to wonder if the Pinot Grigio is still on the vine. And when it does arrive, it’s warm. Not room temperature. Not cellar cool. Warm. Like it had just done a shift under a Tuscan sunlamp and was ready for a lie down. Then the food. The menu reads well enough—some safe hits, some ambitious misses—but what arrives feels like a culinary shrug. The pasta was dry, claggy, and slumped on the plate like it had given up halfway through the boil. The presentation suggested a chef in a hurry, or perhaps a hostage. Even the panna cotta looked like it had been assembled mid-apology. It’s a shame. Because you want to like these places. You want to come out, for a birthday, with family and laughter and the clink of glasses and plates you didn’t have to wash. You don’t want to feel like you are the inconvenience. That your mere presence is messing with the restaurant’s vibe. But that’s how it felt. A sort of low-grade irritation, like they’d rather you just ordered a Deliveroo and left them to their curated Instagram silence. Piccolino Birmingham: a fallen angel of a restaurant. Once full of promise, now floating somewhere between faded glamour and full-blown couldn’t-care-less. We raised a glass to 80 years of life. The restaurant, I fear, won’t see out the decade.

Ok, lets start with nice things Location, venue, atmosphere is really great. Food - bit different story. To be honest it’s bit hit and miss. Tuna tartare was great, calmari fritti as well, straters overall is good options. Once it comes to mains it might get bit disappointing. Will be honest- carbonara was worst i ever tried. And i have tried quite few, last one in Naples couple weeks back. Seafood grill very sad for the cost. Ravioli with beef was good (best main on the table). Service: kudos to one of the guys who i believe is Italian who partly taken over service of our table cause initial waiter seems forgot about us. So it’s not terribly bad, but for the prices i would expect bit more of a quality with a food Would i go there again? For a starters and a drink yes. For a main - there is better places around.

Thanks for a great evening. Don't know the name of the waiter, but he was just right there with good suggestions and follow-up, skilled. And the food was fantastic. We had Carbonara and Osso Buco Alla Milanesa, and the veal was a 6 on the dice. If we come back to Birmingham it's a foregone conclusion.

Mi pareja había reservado una mesa en Piccolinos para las 4 pm del Día de la Madre y todo lo que puedo decir es que su frente de la casa y la organización del servicio es un desastre absoluto. Esta mesa fue reservada semanas antes del Día de la Madre, nos presentamos en el restaurante recibido con una cola que estaba fuera de la puerta. Finalmente nos vieron a las 4: 15 pm para que nos dijeran que las mesas estaban siendo limpiadas y podríamos esperar en la barra. Pasaron 40 minutos y todavía estábamos esperando, esperando una mesa que había sido RESERVADA. Había otros a nuestro alrededor que en este punto habían estado esperando durante una hora. Sin reconocimiento de que esperamos, sin tranquilidad, eta o incluso una bebida de cortesía por las molestias. Tuve un hambre de 2 años para tratar de entretener durante 40 minutos, sin entender por qué no estábamos comiendo todavía. Después de quejarse a un miembro del personal, dijo que nos ordenaría, sin embargo, señalamos que había otros que habían estado esperando más tiempo que nosotros. Una vez sentados, el servicio estaba bien, la comida llegó rápido y era satisfactorio por lo que no había problemas con la cocina, sin embargo no se nos acercó una vez más y nos preguntó si necesitábamos algo más o si queríamos más bebidas. Cuando pedimos la máquina de facturas y tarjetas nos tomó otros 40 minutos resolver esto y nos dijeron “estamos muy ocupados hoy”. ¡No? ¿En serio? No podía decirlo. O el restaurante tenía poco personal o habían reservado demasiado tratando de beneficiarse de la publicidad del Día de la Madre. No me habría molestado, pero mi pareja me dijo “quería reservar un lugar agradable para mí”. La experiencia y la espera en realidad terminaron poniendo un amortiguador en mi Día de la Madre, lo que es extremadamente decepcionante. Su frente de casa es una ruina, se debe gestionar de manera más eficiente, una clara falta de organización o adhesión a la política de asignación de tiempo de mesa. No volveré a ir aquí, ni se lo recomendaré a nadie, no por la comida, sino porque no siento que merezcan el beneficio cuando hicieron que mi Día de la Madre, mi día favorito del año, se sintiera absolutamente sin alma.

Booked a table for 2pm to celebrate my wife's birthday & Mother's Day with my daughter. After presenting ourselves at reception we waited 20 mins before challenging staff as to why we had to wait so long to be shown to our table. We waited a further 10 mins before being shown to our table. Once seated we waited a further 20 mins, during which time we were not even acknowledged by any of the waiting staff. After complaining about yet another delay a member of staff took our order. Only once we placed our order were we told that some items we had ordered were not available, resulting in a further delay in placing our order. When the starters arrived my wife's was cold and we had to request a replacement. Onto the mains, my daughter did not get everything she had ordered and my wife's pizza, which was requested without basil, came wit basil on it. After further complaining again, the missing element of my daughter's mains was brought to our table along with my wife's replacement pizza, minus basil. However, the replacement pizza came unsliced, leaving my wife to have to do it with a knife & fork. We were offered complimentary cocktails, however when the bill arrived there was a charge for cocktails on it. After another complaint they were removed from the bill. All in all what should have been a celebration of my wife's birthday and Mother's Day turned out to be a disastrous and disappointing visit. The staff simply seemed unable to get anything right and we could hear other customers around us complaining about various issues. Spoiled what was otherwise a very good day of celebration.

We were really excited to try this place after reading the reviews even though it’s quite expensive, but unfortunately it was disappointing. The service was great and the atmosphere and decor was lovely but the food let it down. The bruschetta was freezing cold and the carbonara had far too much salt and pepper on it that it was all you could taste. The vegan pizza was decent but nothing special. The cocktails were nice but not very strong considering the price point. Considering how much we spent, we expected better. At least the staff were lovely.

We had a fabulous evening at Piccolino's. We were a party of 7 for a birthday celebration. The food was good, some of us had fish, some of us had pasta and some had of us had meat dishes. The fries were piping hot and crispy, some of the best fries I've had in a while. My Wagyu lasagne was ok, it was luke warm, however my cousin had the venison which was delectable, I should have gone for that. To be honest I dithered about what to eat all night, I originally chose risotto but changed my mind, so shout out to Antonio for being patient and pleasant. We asked him lots of questions and I literally took a considerable time to choose my meal, however Antonio put us at ease, and had fantastic hosting skills. All in all it was a lovely mid week evening.

A really nice and I would say it is one of the top choices in Birmingham. Some portions are big like the T Bone. Lobster pasta is smaller if you consider sharing. Both taste really nice. Great service.

My only complaint is that, I would of liked the waiter or waitress to have spoken to the lady opposite who was dining with her phone on loud speaker and volume on maximum, we was not in McDonald’s, but a nice place to come and enjoy my dining experience, otherwise the food and service was great, defo recommend and reasonably priced Food was tasty and full of flavour

Service was exceptional - huge thanks to Monica, who was incredibly friendly and attentive, making the night feel extra special. We came here to dine on the 7th March 2025. Immediately greeted when we arrived and taken to our table. The service was brilliant and the atmosphere was perfect. We decide on 3 courses and they were timed really well, did not feel rushed. Food is outstanding and excellent quality. We would definitely dine here again. Thank you for an amazing experience.

Piccolino had some good points but also a few letdowns. The restaurant was quiet when we visited, and the food overall was nice—the chicken pasta tasted fresh, and the desserts were enjoyable, though the garlic bread’s cheese tasted a bit off. Service was friendly, especially Irene, but we did have to wait quite a bit to order and follow up on requests. The menu felt limited for vegetarians. While the meal itself was enjoyable, both my friend and I experienced indigestion and stomach cramps the next day, which brought my rating down significantly. Had that not happened, I would have given a much better review.

Despite having a reservation, we waited over 30-40 minutes for a table and were eventually squeezed into an sheltered ‘outdoor’ spot where the heating was turned off. Food took forever to arrive, and when it did, it was nothing special. Just a mediocre restaurant

My daughter and I tried this place out as she's never been to a dessert parlour before. The decor is beautiful, very relaxing, and stylish. Staff were very friendly and easy going. And the food?! Oh my goodness! ❤️👌😌 My daughter says it's the nicest thing she has ever eaten! It was the oreo cookie dessert with ice cream in case you're wondering. We'll definitely be back!

I had a lovely experience at Bella Italia! The lasagna was absolutely delicious rich and full of flavour. I also had the brownie sundae for dessert, and it was just as delicious. The woman who greeted and seated us was so welcoming and kind, which made the whole visit feel even more special. Great food, great service, and a really warm atmosphere. I’ll definitely be coming back!

Not a particular fan of UK Italian restaurant as my overall experience of them are not very positive. Did book a table on Sunday night as San Carlo is one of the Birmingham signature restaurants. Didn’t expect much but I do think they did a great job. Food was delicious overall and in generous portions which is a bonus. Calamari was good, freshly fried and still crispy with some squid flavour instead of a rubber in most Italian restaurants. My frutti de mare was good, loads of seafood, probably the pasta is overcooked a bit to my taste. But I like the subtle spicy that bring the dish better. Reasonable service, can see some wear and tear from the decor. Price is reasonable considering the portion is big. Not a exceptional food but definitely a nice one.
