We too were disappointed that this restaurant has closed. However we have known it since the early 1980's when it was run by Italians and it was the only place we ate on our rare visits to London. However about 5 years ago, we arrived there after booking for a special (son's birthday) meal to find that although it was still an Italian restaurant the management and staff had changed. When we asked if we could have a table upstairs they had to switch the lights on up there! Clearly word had got around that it had changed for the worse. We had a very disappointing meal. We were in the area last weekend and walked past it to see that there was a notice in the window suggesting that it will reopen sometime as a Peruvian Restaurant.

We stumbled across this cosy restaurant by chance . My friends and I all chose from the set lunch menu 2 courses for £12 . Between us we had minestrone soup with generous sprinkling of Parmesan . I was told this was delicious . I chose a seafood salad which was also very fresh tasty and very well dressed . We all chose the chicken in tomato sauce with sautéed potatoes , this was also really delicious . My in laws are Italian so I am used to good tasting Italian food and this chef did not disappoint. With excellent service from a very efficient waiter we were very impressed . Recommend a visit .

We booked ahead for a meal before the theatre. Luckily we had plenty of time to spare before the performance began which was just as well, because we had to wait for 2 hours for our food. The menu looked good but when the food did appear it was very disappointing and tasteless. The vegetable soup, was full of frozen peas and unseasoned; was only saved by a spoonful of Parmesan cheese. Heinz vegetable soup would have been gourmet in comparison. Main courses were equally uninspiring. It's not difficult to serve up a tasty pot of soup using proper stock which every kitchen should have on the go.

Cosy. Quiet. A little romantic cafe just off bustling Piccadilly Circus. I was fortunate to meet up with a Facebook friend of 6 years...this is the first time we met each other in person. Just wanted a quiet place to have coffee and chat. We came across this cafe was walked in. Staff were friendly. We ended up ordering calamari and french fries, and coffees as well. Awesome and tasty snacks. Wish we could have dinner instead. Another time. That's for sure!

Drawn in by the friendly feel and the fact that everywhere else was seriously pact and overpriced!! The service was prompt and friendly and the prices are what you would expect for its location. We were due to see a show do didn't have long but the lasagna was amazing. Swimming in cheese which is bad for the health but exactly what we wanted. A meal for two with a bottle of wine two beers and a garlic bread came to roughly 60 pounds. I would definitely go again.

We were looking - in the pouring rain - for an early dinner (6:30ish) and were invited in to look at the menu. The restaurant wasn't busy but did have a family feel; we stayed. The 2 course menu offered excellent value at £12.95: the Copa di Mare was good and the Sea Bass fillet nice. Eating solely from the a-la-carte could prove expensive. Perhaps a suggestion of side orders would have been good though as my wife chose calves liver which whilst well cooked and tasty, was only served with a small sprig of salad. As others have said, the house wines - white and red - were awful; probably as a result of being open a long time. When replaced by a bottle of Pinot Grigio (the same as the house white) the wine was fine. The motto being only order a fresh bottle. Yes, the decor is a little tired but the signed celeb photos remind you that you are in Theatreland. When we left my wife mentioned that it was her birthday celebration and the staff gave her a free bottle of the Pinot to take home - nice touch!

Had lunch here on the first Saturday in December. Pubs, chain restaurants and streets were packed. Found this small Italian restaurant and took a chance! Food was excellent, lasagne which had a great cheesey sauce, prawn Provençal and a veal in a garlic/tomato sauce, which my daughter described as gooooood. Prices are a little high but you are in London. Worth a visit.

Our main courses were quite good - escalopes with Marsala and cream/mushroom sauces were tasty and well cooked, a side of spinach was surprisingly delicious, and salad and chips just about passed muster. Service was pleasant and unobtrusive. However, the house wines (red and white, the only wines sold by the glass) were tasteless vinegar, and desserts of creme brulee and profiteroles were worse than their supermarket equivalents. The room was too cold, and the decor is sad and faded. The bill came to £72.50. This place is a relic of old Soho, but not in a particularly good way.

Things started badly when we were served Coke which was totally fizz free. The next table were then served our food order. This took some time to rectify. When we did get our food it was not good. The asparagus risotto was under cooked, tepid and tasteless. The spaghetti carbonara tasted weird. The sea bass was swimming in a greasy sauce. To be fair the penne bolognese was ok. Unlike the red house wine which was rough. It only gets one star because I haven't worked out how to give no stars. This meal was a huge disappointment and a waste of our time and money.

Hello Judy here again, went up to London to pick up our brollies which we had left in the Chor Bazarre Indian restaurant a couple of days before after a night out, we decided to try the Piccadilly restaurant which we passed a while back when we were up their previously as Steve Luvs scampi, it was quite inside but the waitress was luvely Steve ordered a beer and I ordered a Prosecco to start, we checked out the menu and I decided to try their homemade Pate and Steve said he would taste some of mine, well we were glad we did as this pate was delicious and would certainly have it again and the bread was so fresh it was luvely, we ordered for our main Steve had the Scampi Manuire? think that is how you spell it??? and I had Spag bol, Steve said it was very nice and would come back and try the Provincial next time we come, my spag bol was very nice to, we spoke to the waitress and had a look around the restaurant as it has two levels and they have a smoking area upstairs a small balcony with seating which would be great for us as the restaurant is in a very little side road and not much foot fall, we had a luvely meal nice chat and a good laugh with the couple next to us from Sweden, keep reading my feedbacks as find some nice places to eat small or large.

What a lovely welcoming restaurant! Excellent value and the veal escalopes were to die for. Nothing was too much trouble and it is a long time since we have had such attentive service. Our American friend was very disappointed when he realised how good the veal looked and he hadn't ordered it but no problem! Out came a special small portion for him as an extra - he was so happy! Lasagne and Canneloni also lovely and I can even recommend the homemade lemoncello, which is not usually a favourite of mine. All in all a lovely surprise find and we look forward to returning. We have been this place before usually pre theatre trip go all round food we decided that as we were extra hungry to order and pay a bit more ordering off the menu however the Prawns in batter tasted like they were pre frozen and were not unlike the tastless ones that freezer shop sells only 4 small ones the sauce portion could not get any smaller, the avacardo and prawns okay main course veal in a white wine sauce excellent, the meat Raviolli in a tomato sauce excellent reasonable portion of vegetables, the deserts Creme Brulee with cinnamon and creme caramel superb. Price with bottle of wine just under £100 it was dear for a pre theatre quick meal on reflection the pre priced meal would have been better value for money would I go back? Yes. I know you get what you pay for but the options from the offer menu and the normal menu quality wise are the same but much cheaper. Granted there is not the choices on the offer menu. This restaurant is a good alternative to a ton of 'hipster-hangouts' surrounding it. The food is good and hot, the drinks are cheap for London and we got sat almost immediately. Granted, the decor is tired (as you would imagine with a family-run Italian - there are plenty of faded celebrity portraits on the walls and wine bottle displays) but this shouldn't put you off. Despite having booked a table for 6 and confirming the booking on the day, when we arrived (on time) no table was available and there was nowhere to wait except outside on the street. When we did finally get seated we were rushed to choose from the menu while the waiter watched, we asked him to leave us and come back in a few minutes but he rudely refused. Tables are crammed together and seats are wobbly and uncomfortable. Vegetable lasagne was tasteless and dry, would definitely not recommend. The waiter was very rude and not helpful at all. We would neither recommend nor go back to this restaurant which is overpriced, serves bland food and has such terrible service, plus they have the cheek to automatically add 12.5% service charge! When you are travelling with four kids it is often hard to find a place to accommodate you AND have quality food & service. This small looking place (which has a second floor unseen from the street) is very quaint and welcoming. The service was very good from start to finish. We did have to ask for bread after we notice another table ask for and received it. The calamari appetizer was o.k. to taste but the portion was very small to share. The Lasagna was very hot but the result was a dry taste with all of the sauce evaporated - I would not recommend it. The other pastas were again o.k. but lacked salt. We ordered a middle of the menu bottle of red (staying way from the well publicized wicker basket selection) and it was very good. Overall this small and friendly restaurant fed my family of six but I would not go back with so many other choices available in Soho.

Freezing cold - had to keep our coats on. Apparently they only serve one bottle of rose and at £22.50 it was like vinegar. Lemonade was flat, vodka and coke flat (all poured out of sight so not sure whether there was much vodka in it) smoked salmon as a starter, and that's all it was - not even a slice of bread. Food was very poor and then you're whacked with a 12.5% service charge. Could go down as worst meal I have experienced.

We came across the Piccadilly Restaurant by chance and though it looked interesting and gave it a try. A good decision as the food was great and the staff friendly. Lots of sketches and pictures on the walls showing how long they have been going and some of the theatrical visitors. Probably the worst restaurant I have eaten in recentlyWe were going to the Theater and a nice Italian restaurant seemed to be the perfect choice ... however this was far from niceThe Decor is straight out of the 70's - pictures of unknown "stars" on the wall from shows that stopped broadcasting 20 years ago - even the pictures of the staff were dated from the early 80's - considering this was not supposed to be a nostalgic experience restaurant it just shows how poor it isThe prices were very high and the quality did not match, I know this is a central London restaurant and there is always a premium - however I expect the food to be of a reasonable standard - most of this was re-heated and dry.The waiting staff were fairly attentive, however one waiter did not understand the term "Dry" when asked about the wine and had to ask the manager what it meant.Avoid - there are a whole load of better options at this price.

The worst part of the experience were the loos which were on the top floor and you could smell the gents' as you got closer. Not only could they do with a really good clean of the whole area, but they could do with being seriously updated. In fact in this day and age it was quite shocking to find such scant attention to this kind of detail.

We were on our way to eat dinner in a rather nice Italian in Soho, but we were tired and the set menu here looked reasonable, so we went in. This turned out to be an error, although we did have a nice evening, it wasn't because of the food! My starter of fried mushrooms and main of chicken and potatoes were actually quite nice. But his starter of seafood in Marie Rose sauce was very poor (although to be honest, I wasn't expecting much of it -- that kind of thing needs a lot of care to get right). His main, apparently a risotto, was actually just rice mixed in with cream and a few mushrooms, not a risotto at all. Bizarre. We mentioned this and they seemed to be expecting it, and got him the fish instead. Marginally better - frozen bland fish. But at least fish!I find it odd that an Italian restaurant could possibly serve boiled rice and call it risotto. Dubious.Nice waiting staff, who were as helpful and attentive as possible, but poor quality food and very overpriced. Good if you are not fussy about food, reasonably hungry, and choose well.

Called in here before going to see Les Miserables at nearby Queen's Theatre. It's very compact on the inside but the welcome was warm and we were able to eat within an hour which was important to us. We had the fixed price menu which was reasonable for London. A la carte looked a bit pricey, but this is Soho, London. No bread offered which was a shame. Main courses were very tasty but the puddings were disappointing. Lemon sorbet was served in metal bowls - very passé - and the tiramisu didn't look anything special, sorry. Son enjoyed the profiteroles so he was happy (off a la carte though).

Where to start, I think the question is more 'what was actually RIGHT with the place' (which is not a lot!). By far one of the most awful restaurants we have ever been to. Such a terrible experience. As mentioned in other reviews, the decor is outdated, the specials menus are tackily presented in cheap plastic wallets, and the prices! They do not reflect the quality at all. Everything was garnished with handfuls of lettuce (instead of something a bit more classier like rocket) as a pathetic attempt to spruce up the presentation. Food was absolutely coated in salt, probably to try and mask the god awful and substandard taste. As someone mentioned in their review, the calamari is appalling. Definitely cheap frozen rings and the batter just falls off as soon as you touch it. Also, it was advertised as baby squid but I know for a fact that baby squid does not produce rings of that size so wasn't even as described!! Was garnished with a few tatty bits of lettuce strewn over the plate. The chicken and duck liver pate, whilst more palatable than the calamari, was definitely not chicken and duck liver. Tasted more like veg & red pepper for some reason and the 'toast' that came with it were two stingy slices of baguette that had just been grilled. Again, also garnished with lettuce. The mains were no better. The 'meat-filled' ravioli (it did not specify on the menu what the meat part actually was) tasted bland and like it was out of a packet and the sauce was definitely out of a jar/can. The calf's liver, which despite costing £14.95 did not come with anything like mash, potatoes etc. (you had to order a side separately and pay even more) was awful. Came once again garnished with tacky lettuce, and looked way too big to me to be the liver of a calf. I suspected it was the liver of something else which cost them less to buy in. Was served on slices of bacon which were greasy and fatty and added nothing to the dish at all. Looked like a sloppy attempt at fine dining!Such a disaster, we didn't even stay for dessert and coffee, just wanted to get out of there!! As mentioned before, they had the cheek to add the 12.5% service charge on top of what was already an expensive meal considering the poor quality. I know living in London you can expect higher prices anyway, and if the food was of a high standard we wouldn't have minded paying such prices at all. But it was such a rip-off for such poor food. Like something you could expect from a cheap greasy spoon (though most of the greasy spoons i have been to still do nicer food than this place!). The staff didn't even bother being polite or courteous, didn't say good-bye when we left or bother asking if the food was ok after each dish or if we enjoyed our meal. I think even rating this restaurant as 'average' is being too generous. We tried this place as we wanted to try something other than chains but in future i think we would rather stick to places like Prezzo and Ask as at least you know what to expect!

We ate here before going to Ronnie Scott's. The price on the fixed price menu was reasonable but the drinks were expensive, and we didn't even have a bottle of wine. The prawn startersWere a bit 70's - like the decor. Heavy on the Marie Rose sauce. The sea bass was Ok but nothing special. The service was excellent and the meal arrived swiftly. So all in all average for Central London but maybe they need to raise their game a bit ?

We enjoyed a pre theatre dinner were the food was very enjoyable. The staff were friendly and accommodating. As our friends we running late, we pre ordered their meals and by the time they arrived the bottle of wine was on the table and their meals cooked within minutes of them arriving, they even had time for pudding before we left to see our show.

Shared bruschetta, which was absolutely delicious. I had penne with 'meat' sauce for main, mostly out of curiosity. It turned out to be a sort of penne bolognaise and was perfectly pleasant. My partner ordered the lasagne, which was nothing special but again, perfectly pleasant. We shared some garlic bread with our mains and these turned out to be so delicious we had to order another portion. We had half a bottle of wine to accompany our food. The staff were lovely, the atmosphere warm and the food was all very quick.Overall the experience hit the spot, given that I was purely after a simple pasta dish and some wine. It was slightly overpriced for what it was, but a cute little place and I would visit again.

little to recommend this restaurant other than it is near the West End theaters and I suspect a captive customer base on which they rely upon (survive on?). Below average Italian food . Brought the wrong starter which did not bode well! A rocket salad starter drowned in oil, and a minced veal cannelloni - very dry with little sauce. Disappointing meal. pleasant enough staff.

My friends and I had just come out of the theatre and was trying to decide what and where to eat when we stumbled across this small and unassuming italian restaurant. What a great find and great food...yes the decor could do with a bit of an update but at the end of day the food was thoroughly delicious and you should never judge a book by its cover. The food was flavoursome and was thoroughly enjoyed, we all love italian and this restaurant did not disappoint the service was good and I would recommend a visit any day and would definitely visit again.

This restaurant was ideally situated for the West End & theatres, but a little disappointing. The decor, etc doesn't appear to have been altered since the 70's...younger visitors may think it's a "retro" look...but to those of us who remember it the first time round it was all starting to look a bit tatty. Toilets are quite a trek (two floors up) so I would advise you not to even consider it if you have any sort of mobility issues. Food - starters were disappointing, the breadcrumbed mushrooms were clearly from the freezer, with a token gesture bit of salad & jar salsa, the melon was just that - big chunks of (tasteless) honeydew melon on a white plate, no other fruit or anything as a garnish - disappointing at £5.95. Main courses were a bit better, the Sea Bass was fresh & the Lasagne was homemade. However, neither main course comes with any veg / garlic bread / salad - they have all to be ordered as (added cost) extras. We didn't bother with dessert or coffees. Watch the bill - they automatically add 12.5% gratuity to it before you get it, and to be honest, the "service" wasn't worth that much, let alone adding any more as a tip if you hadn't noticed that it had already been added! Our bill, with one drink each (wine) was £60.00. I know this is central London, but I did't think it was good value for money. I wouldn't go again.

We were recommended to this place by a local taxi driver. If you want to know the intro he gave us look for the only good review on here. Its word for word the spell he cast on us.........On arrival the place looks crap but wad told that its the best food around. Had my doubts when looking in the window and Mcdonalds was growing on preference now.Inside we were taken upstairs to the table and it was so cold i kept my hat and coat on.The menu is poor in offerings and even more so in presentation, by means of A4 print off in a ring binder sleeve. We selected 7 meals and .......The bread is hard. The olives were ok but they dont have to do much with those. The pasta dishes that were supposed to be pasta with rocket were pasta that was nearly plain and dry. On asking where is the rocket the waiter grabbed both bowls and returned with a fist of lettuce on top. We questioned this and then the waiter could not understand which was a coincidence!'Rocket , lettuce , errrrr. Then we asked for some parmesan cheese for the waiter to dump a pile of such on the top of the fist of lettuce. This was all removed as was terrible to proceed with dry pasta opposed to hunger. This was not being welcomed by our mouths so we put the bowls to one side and was asked if we wanted to change the dish.We now wanted to get out.The red wine was from the fridge and had none room temp. The fillet steak was good but should be for £20 for just a piece of steak. The chips were ok and another £3 and the mushrooms were ok for another £3. However no sauce. The carbonara was better at home as congealed with parmesan so more than half would be cheese overload and VOM time. The bill was requested and 12 was deducted. We had 4 glasses of fizzy pop and two cokes.£130.00So all in all 130 for an hour of misery and we headed over the road to costa for a drink and cake.SO........better to go hungry than pay for slop.

We went to the Piccadilly on spec after reading Steve Ceaton's review on the train up to London, as I love Italian food. All I can say is that if that's the best Italian Steve has ever had he's either not eaten much Italian or owns the restaurant! As Steve's girlfriend had asked for something 'off menu' I asked for seafood pasta which wasn't on the menu but, as seafood risotto was, assumed they had all the necessary ingredients. The strange, slightly spicy tasting pasta was accompanied by shrimps rather than prawns, one piece of calamari and mussels out of their shell (too risky!). We had a garlic bread to share, a pasta dish each, a glass of house wine each, bottle of water, dessert to share and a coffee each which was so bitter I couldn't drink it - costing an incredible £62. Appalling food at an inflated price - would not recommend.

Instead of the usual trip to a Cafe Rouge, we decided to opt for a 'real' Italian. What a mistake that was!Given the easy access to high quality ingredients in London, I don't expect to be served supermarket freezer bag calamari rings, but I was. Neither do I expect to be served soggy, cooked to oblivion spaghetti - but I was. What a rip-off!The only thing superior about this place was the final bill to which a 12.5% service charge was automatically added - and then they had the temerity to ask for a tip on top, too (presumably in the hope no one reads the small print on the menu). Absolutely awful.Cafe Rouge in Leicester square is but a couple of minutes walk, and a far better, cheaper and more stylish place to eat. Go there.

I went to the Piccadilly with a group of girlfriends after seeing a Saturday matinee of Chorus Line at the Palladium. We booked an early table at 5.30 as we skipped luch. It was only a few minutes walk from the Palladium and was the perfect choice. I was worried that it would lack atmosphere at such abn early time, but I needn't have worried. It was bustling with people and had a great atmosphere. The food was excellent - typical Italian and lots of choice. I had a rocket salad followed by Sea Bass which was amazing. I followed with a fabulous creme brulee. I was really pleased with my choice and would definately go there again.

Went with a group for a lunch. The service was mediocre at best, the 2 waiters looked miserable. The restaurant wasn't very full downstairs, the toilets are a hike on the 3rd floor, the 2nd floor seating area was empty and it was freezing cold from the stairs upwards. The loos were like a block of ice. It wasn't that much warmer in the restaurant at street level, at one point I put my jacket on it was so cold. The food was ok. We had a 50% off deal which only applies to main meals and not sides or deserts, which I thought was a bit of a con. The prices are way over the top if you were not getting a deal and I have been to much better, so won't be making a return visit.

I visited this place on the 18th of June 2012 with a friend, we decided to go for the Starter and Main meal Dessert and it was terrible, terrible, terrible. We ordered the Miestrone soup which tasted as if it was from a large out of date catering tin of Minestrone, chewy, powdery, full of Mono Sodium Glutamate. We also went for the Pollo Alla Cream, OMFG this gloop was mean't to be Free range chicken breast, Cream, White Wine and Mushrooms. The menu and what's on the plate does not a good meal make, so the taste and expierience was like this, the Chicken was rubbery stringy and flavourless, the Wine within was like Sarsons, some Single cream thrown in from a distance and the Few mushroom I am sure were from a Tin.The Dessert we opted for the fresh Figs and cream: I think they Cook does not know the difference between Figs and Dates let's leave it at that, the Cream well cream is cream in a place like this. The White wine is just like a budget superstore £5.00p brand but with an extra £24.00p stuck on it.No I couldn't reccomend this place at all even the decor is dark and outdated, the waiters hover in a unpleasant way, when I eat in pretentious places like this I feel closer to death as I sigh. There is nothing and I mean nothing remotely culinary stylish or Italian about this placeand should you choose to visit then on your own head be it.Over priced, Over rated, Over all Over the Hill and down hill at that.

I live round the corner. This place used to be great - just the perfect Italian, excellent food at good prices. And great service. How things have changed.I went here shortly after it changed hands some years ago - not a good experience. But I thought I'd give it another go. The prices are now way overvalued. The service was so-so, but when I got my change in a dish with about twelve 5p coins it just seemed so obviously a tactic to drive me to leave a tip that I scooped them up and left. The Ravioli in Brodo was pretty tasteless (this used to be a fantastic dish here). My pasta main course wasn't great either.I think they do try here - but it does seem to be a business based on high prices for very average food. And the general air of staff trying to squeeze out a few extra pounds from the clientele is just too obvious for comfort.I'll probably go back again in a few years, just to see if it's back to the way it was....

Everyone enjoyed their dishes and were pleased with the quality of food, which was reasonably priced, considering the location~just off Piccadilly Square. We sampled this restaurant on a weekend visit to London. It is in a great location and we were looking at the menu outside when we one of the waiters came out of the restauarant and handed us a "Set menu".We opted for this as the prices seemed reasonable. However, we were very disappointed with the quality and quantity. The meals arrived far too quickly. They also rip you off by charging £3.95 for an advertised bottle of Peroni then bringing the beer, in a half pint glass. Was it Peroni? We skipped the desert menu and coffees and just paid and left. A 12.5% service charge is automatically added. That's an insult. There was no atmosphere apart from loud pop music playing. We definately won't be going back.

Pre theatre meal. Usually we go to 'Cote' in Covent Garden but decided to branch out. Wish we hadn't. Service:Generally. Quite prompt with menu, drinks order and food. Food came a little too quick which made me suspicious. What but a real dampener on the evening was when the 12.5% service charge was added to the bill. When we asked to have it removed, the waiter said "no". He actually sad "no" to have the DISCRETIONARY SERVICE CHARGE removed. I don't mind tipping when it is deserved, but not when we had the experience we had and definitely when they add their own tip. We do have something called minimum wage in this country! When we asked to speak to the manager, he accepted to remove their addition when we threatened not to pay at all. Food:All of us thought our food was bland and tasteless. The "Pollo Cordon Blue" looks like a scotch egg and reheated, ravioli was overcooked and the veal was overly tasteless. The wine was decent enough (Primitivo Salento)Value: I know its London and things tend to be more expensive, but I still expect a certain level of quality for what i'm paying for if not more. All I can say is expensive for what it was. Atmosphere:There weren't many people in and they had loud pop music on as opposed to anything traditional to Italy. Conclusion:I know other people have had different experiences here, and generally I would be inclined to give them a second chance, but I really don't want too so I will not be going back.p.s. if you find yourself in Durham which we did a week later, go to 'Bistro Italiano' which is a world apart compared to this place.

I have always been a huge fan of Eataly in London and New York, and have eaten there several times! This visit was awful! From the girl at front of house who was so miserable, like she couldn’t be bothered, her first words to us were “you’ve got two hours”, not a great welcome, to the bland, disappointing food and rushed wait staff! We went for an early Father’s Day lunch but won’t be returning which is a shame as we’ve always enjoyed it before.
