Pho-Thong in Tameside

I've just got home from my first visit to the Pho-Thong since my wie died 8 years ago. Nothing has changed. Service was excellent and friendly and the food was as good as it was all those years ago. I wil definitely be back and it won't be 8 years tyhs time!

Beautiful food, and a beautiful host. I phone for a takeaway and give a price ,usually £20 and ask the host for a mixture of everything, I get a different thing every time . It's consistently good.

Had a take out, set meal for 2. Always been spot on in the past. Starters were disappointing and somewhat tasteless except for the satay. Prawn toast had no flavour and was dry and dusty, spring rolls were thick with overcooked batter, brittle and again lacking in flavour. Only decent taste was the veg, chilli fish, cooked in cornflower would expect to be crunchy, it was a sloppy inedible mess. Thai green had flavour but was ruined by the cheap rubbery chicken of cheap Chinese chippies. Sorry Pho Thong, you have gone way down hill.

We've been coming here for years and it never disappoints. Lovely friendly FOH and consistently great food. Very reasonably priced and we're very fortunate as it's only one mile from home!

We have been dining here on and off for many years, the couple that run it are so nice & friendly and the food is always excellent. It’s a bit haphazard sometimes when it’s busy but it is still very good. Authentic & unusual Thai food and reasonably priced.

Beautiful and authentic Thai food. That beautiful balance of heat and flavour. Almost impossible to choose from a comprehensive menu, but pleased with my choices that really hit the spot. Service full of smiles, a great experience that we will repeat again and again

Freshly cooked food. Thai green curry was amazing, as was the red curry. Lovely sharing starter. A little cold and could do with a deep clean.

I dine here often with friends, family large groups of people and I cannot fault it. This weekend me and some friends enjoyed a fabulous meal with first class service - as always. The place was full, which was so good to see. Dishes are cooked fresh and you can always ask for them mild or extra spicy! Good choice of beers and wines. Highly recommended :-)

After reading the reviews we was looking forward to an authentic Thai meal, what we got was now of the worst meals I’ve ever had. The noodles was all stuck together as if they’d been sat for hours then warmed up in the microwave. My other half had calamari which was dry bc and rubbery and the battered prawns was full of grease. We will not be back.

This is our local Thai restaurant and we love it very much. I would describe the restaurant as a quirky restaurant/cafe vibe. The service is authentic and the staff are lovely. It saddens me to read the review below, as this place is great and the food so tasty . I would recommend the combination platter and any of the curries.

We’ve eaten across Thailand, and lots of places in the UK. Decided we couldn’t go wrong, all Thai food is packed for full flavours. Unfortunately, not this one. Service was pleasant. Place was dusty, but whatever, it’s about the food. Starters were fairly soaked in oil, some bits looked like they’d been left out for a while, was OK at best. Main Thai curries were 100% watered down, coconut milk used was not creamy whatsoever due to added water. Never had such a tasteless massaman in my life. No garnish, chicken was of the standard you find in a cheap chicken soup can. We couldn’t get over how 4 different Thai curries had literally ZERO taste. It tasted like water with some chilli flakes in, no exaggeration. Tried to eat as much as possible out of shear politeness. It wasn’t disgusting, it was just completely tasteless, which if you eat a lot of Thai food, seems like it would be impossible. So disappointing. I’m confused how there are so many good reviews here tbh…what we had was very poor, and had blatantly been watered down. Felt the need to write a review because I can’t get over how a Thai run business is serving such flavourless dishes. Will not be visiting again.

During lockdown we have been having lots of takeaways from here. Kept promising to take our daughter when things eased. Lovely lady doing front of house and the service is excellent. Never disappointed with the food which is so tasty. Okay, not the poshest of places but it's worth it for the food.

We have had a number of takeaways from this lovely little restaurant and it never fails to impress. Everything is always freshly cooked and tastes lovely. It is a little hidden gem.

We have driven past this restaurant many times and had always thought it looked a little unloved. However, craving Thai food tonight we decided to give it a try. The decor is a little tired, no doubt about that. The service and food however were faultless! Authentic Thai service and cuisine, ALL of our dishes were perfect. Both of us have visited Thailand, we've even been for Thai cooking lessons as we love to try it at home, and both of us thoroughly enjoyed our meal tonight. Tasty, creative and just the right portion size. We will be back and will also be having take away from there too.

They squeezed us in last minute for an early dinner on a Friday night. One lady working a busy restaurant on her own gave impeccable service whilst also manning the busy phone for takeaway orders, I was in awe! The food was amazing, our 1 year old and 3 year old adored adored the steamed dumplings and noodle soup. All other dishes were fantastic, pad Thai so good we ordered a second. We will be back soon

It's years since we were here which is amazing as it's literally 5 minutes from home. Probably the reason is the place itself. The people are very friendly and welcoming and the food is outstanding. But the decor hasn't changed in ages - dark painted walls and old wooden chairs. It's just not comfortable. We will certainly have a takeaway in future, but it would be so nice to go out and eat in a nice environment.

Had a great meal here for 8 of us. 7 banquets, in which every dish was extremely tasty, and one specially prepared meal for someone with particular dietary requirements which was also very good. Very reasonably priced, including the drinks. We will be back

Have been meaning to come here since I moved to Mossley (12 years ago). Food was amazing so much choice too. Service was great and it was excellent value for money. I’ll be back.

Have visited many times over the years it has been open and never disappointed. The restaurant itself never changes but always a warm welcome and great food.

I have been coming to Mossley for about 6 months and have been dissapointed with all the take aways in the area. I wish I had found Pho-Thong earlier.First impressions are deceptive and if anything the plain decor makes the awesome presentation of the food pop on the platter.Portion sizes for starters were larger than I am used to which made for a real treat with the fish cakes which were perfectly cooked, seasoned and presented.The main was equally exploding with flavour and a nice portion size.The staff were polite and frankly it was the best Thai food I have eaten in 2019 outside of Thailand.Certainly a future regular place even if I were to have to travel 50 miles to get there.

I haven’t been a big fan of Thai food in the past but this place has changed my opinion. The restaurant hasn’t changed much since it was the former Italian restaurant and this really is a small business however the prices are very reasonable and the food is fantastic. Presentation and flavour perfect. Can’t wait to go back!

Went last night with my sister & I must say I was VERY impressed. We got a mixed starter & 3 main dishes to share & they were all absolutely gorgeous. Very reasonably priced as well. Cannot recommend this place enough.

Called in here last night, managed to squeeze us a table on a very busy evening. Food was delicious and fresh, Good size portions - but not massive. Highly recommend this little gem.

Myself and my wife had a date night here 19/6, never been before my wife found it online, the food is tasty fresh it is just excellent, the restaurant itself is quint, not to big, has its own feel, good price for such excellent food, staff are friendly, very helpful, myself and my wife would 110% recommend this placeYou can also pay by card and they have a licensed bar

The food here is fresh, tasty and really good value for money. Three of us ate here having starters, mains, three beers, and a lemonade. The bill came to £47 - bargain. The thai red veg curry was amazing, choc full of a variety of really lovely veg, so unlike most vegtable curries I have when I eat out. My husband couldn't believe it when I didn't moan about the lack of quality veg, in fact, it was perfect.

Just moved to the area and needed a quick Saturday night meal - ended up realising they also did takeaway which fitted the bill. Had tempura vegetables to start and a chicken masaman with sticky rice. Shared between two which was ample! Will be returning soon for the restaurant experience!

The food was very nice, the staff are very courteous. And very reasonably priced. My wife and I had a really good meal. We will be going back.

Small cosy restaurant. The menu is good with lots of vegetarian options too. Friendly welcome and service. Very good portion sizes for the starters and all of the food was flavoursome.

Great Vegan and vegetarian options, make sure to ask which ones can be made vegan, nut free, etc. Extensive long menu as well.

Went to order takeaway - chicken satay, chicken wings, green curry beef and pad Thai. All were under £25 which was very reasonable.

Love Pho-Tong, we are made to feel welcome each time we visit which is every few months. The food is always spot on and fresh tasting, they have great selection of starers, mains and deserts, wines and beers. Prices are very reasonable

First of all, coming to this restaurant, the staff were very polite and welcoming which made a lovely atmosphere to dine in. When it came to the food and drinks, the service was excpetional and I couldn’t actually believe the standard of food as it was quality! This is the best Thai food I’ve ever experience so I definitely recommend this restaurant, enjoy :)

I rang this restaurant for my dinner yesterday (23/7/2018 2000pm). I was not impressed at all by way of a person who answers my phone sound very rude! I was close to not going there but I wanted to try their foods! I walk in and the lad was playing his mobile so took 5 seconds to notice me in his restaurant! I have been seated at a table where the ambience was like back in 1970! So he asks me drink lager cost £2.50 (half a pint) and I began to browse the menu and I was ready to order me dinner, 15 mins I was waiting for him to notice that I am ready to order!

I have eaten Thaifood many places. And also in Thailand. The food that I got served here is awesome. It brought me back to my trips to Thailand. Its not a big restaurant in a big city. But a friendly owner in a small restaurant, that serves great tasting food. Will I come back? I'm not even going to answer :D

I love eating at Pho-Thong. The food is always beautifully presented and tasty. The staff are great too very friendly and accommodating. Vegetarian options are no problem.

This Thai food is superb. We keep coming back to this restaurant and are never disappointed. Friendly atmosphere and good food you don't notice the decor which adds to its ambience. Go to this Thai Restaurant you will come away glad you did.

I eat here a lot and it’s always been great. The decor isn’t swanky and modern but it adds to the character of the place. Good value and a high standard of Thai food. Definitely worth a visit or a take away.

Not the worst ive tried but definitely far from the best, wasn't too impressed with the settings as looked dark and dingy at the back with a wooden screen that was hiding something, the best asset was definitely the staff. will be trying elsewhere in the future.

Al llegar nos recibió el dueño parte que era muy amable y educado. Ella nos enseñó nuestro asiento y tomó nuestra orden de bebidas. Unos 10 minutos más tarde llegó a tomar nuestro pedido de comida sin problemas sin problemas. La comida entrante y plato principal era caliente y deliciosa. El establecimiento estaba impecable, no me puedo quejar de ninguna de nuestra visita. Gracias señora encantadora por el gran servicio que volveremos.

No podría decir la cantidad de veces que he ido a este restaurante, ya que se acababan de dedos hace mucho tiempo. Número 27 es el plato más increíble conocido a la humanidad y a los rollitos de primavera de verduras y tostadas de gambas son increíbles. Hemos probado muchos platos a lo largo de los años y nunca han sido decepcionados. Nos encanta la decoración vegetal tallada por un agradable toque añadido. Pruébalo y honestamente puedo decir que no te decepcionará!!!!!

We visit the restaurant at least once a month (normally for a takeaway). We have never had a bad meal, and Lek is so welcoming. We particularly like Tom Yum soup, steamed fish and tamarind duck.

This is a small restaurant in top Mossley. The décor is not grand but the food certainly is. It is run by a Thai husband and wife and their son helps out too. It isn't cheap but the food is wonderful.

This is a place I visit on a regular basis as good thai cuisine is difficult to find, there are many pretenders but Pho Thong offers the real deal and is great value for money. Great attentive staff and a homely atmosphere, snug and compact restaurant and bar.

Five of us ate here and the food was very good. Service was efficient. The restaurant needs refurbishment, but the well cooked, delicious, inexpensive food more than makes up for the dated decor.

Very genuine Thai restaurant and family run, been countless times and food is always worth the visit with generous portions and taste fantastic, it's not changed over the years as for decor but who cares really, it's clean and you'll definitely be happy what your eating with a good choice and reasonable price

Decided to have a midweek treat instead of cookingWaitress was really welcoming I had the chicken phat prick. The waitress asked how spicy I wanted it - I said the spicier the better. This restaurant advertises as offering a takeaway service but I've called several times over the last couple of months and on every occasion I've been very rudely refused on the basis they're too busy. I'm pleased the restaurant is busy but there is no need to be so rude and abrupt to customers and you shouldn't be offering a service you can't fulfil.

Group of 5 of us went hoping to enjoy a good Thai meal we where ignored by staff waitress was abrupt and rude the restaurant was cold which added to the frosty atmosphere when the food arrived it was tasteless my duck dish was so tough it bordered on inedible I came home hungry all the other meals were of the same standard we couldn't wait to get out of the premises and will not be returning

I've eaten here several times and the food never disappoints. The mixed starter is always tasty with different flavours and textures and nicely presented. For the main course had chicken with cashew nuts and plain noodles, again very nice. If I'm honest I could eat the plain noodles as a meal on their own they are so tasty.The decor and tableware really could do with an upgrade, a particular bugbear of mine are the glass place mats which cause a loud crash every time you put a plate or your knife and fork down. Service on this visit could have been friendlier too. Some specials or recommendations would be a nice touch to vary things up for regular customers.The food is always great and feels very authentic at this small family run restaurant. It's small size and location make it feel like a hidden gem.

We've enjoyed a lovely meal at this quaint but really nice restraunt in top Mossley. Started with two lovely starters curried custard and crab meat also a nice spicy soup. Then a number 21 beef dish and 49 a really nice fish dish followed by followed by a beautiful banana desert.

Very nice tasting food, I think the menu C was a perfect start for a first time eating Thais food. Very friendly lady who served us.

We probably visit at least once a month often taking friends and family, This is very much a family run restaurant and they are very welcoming. I am not Thai food expert but i have to say the food tastes fabulous to us

We've been here many times and it's always the same - tasty food which is very good value, and a warm welcome, but not over-powering service, they let you get on with your evening rather than pester you. We went for the 19th anniversary of our first date (not here) and had the mixed starter to kick the meal off. We then shared the beef curry without coconut milk, chicken stir fried with basil and chilli, and the garlic ribs with a portion of fried rice. With three bottles of Singha beer and a large bottle of sparkling water the bill - excluding service - came to £40.80, an absolute steal. Yes the décor could do with a spruce up but I'm not eating the wallpaper, and refurbishment costs money which leads to increased prices so I'm happy the way it is.

We have recently moved to the area and as huge fans of Thai food we were really excited to try this restaurant. First impressions were not great, the front of house lady was not exactly welcoming and appeared hassled although the restaurant wasn't that busy. We were shown to a table in the back room which, as other reviewers have commented, is a little shabby and could do with a refurb. The quality of the food was mixed. The sharing starter was nicely presented but just tasted like the frozen spring rolls etc that you buy at the supermarket. I had the crispy fish curry for my main which was presented beautifully and was tasty, I enjoyed the main course. What spoiled our visit was that at the end of the meal, my husband knocked his glass of wine over while getting up from the table. (The table was not very solid and more like a card/collapsible table.) It fell to the floor and smashed. The front of house lady came over to clear it away. We apologised immediately but she did not acknowledge us, say a word to us or make eye contact. We asked for the bill which she brought us, and processed our card payment again not looking at us or saying a word. We felt like we had done something wrong and it really spoilt the evening. It was an accident! Incredibly rude lady and mediocre food, we won't be going back.

The food here is reliably good quality, and there are often quite a few people in the restaurant, and people collecting take-aways - so those that have found Pho Tong like it and come back.The only thing that lets this place down is the decor, it's just a bit naff. But if you go for the retro look and like artex - then it's not a problem!I go here on a semi regular basis, and have never had issue with the food or service, I just wish they would do a refurb as it could put people off.

Visited this restaurant early evening with our young grandchild. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming from the minute we walked through the door. Our meal was absolutely delicious and reasonably priced. The service was excellent and the music added to the ambiance.We loved it and we will be going back very soon. Do not be put off by the decor.

Called on a Saturday evening without pre-booking. Staff more than happy to seat us I had a phat prik and my girlfriend had the chicken fried rice cooked in curryMy prik was gorgeous and the fried rice side dish was nice. There was plenty of chicken. The girlfriend said hers was lovely tooVery efficient service without being overbearing and the bill was a pleasant surprise. Definitely worth a try

We have had several meals here with family, including really young children. We always have a set meal and the variety is excellent. The children can pick and choose what they fancy and the adults enjoy everything! The staff are very nice and we can really recommend the food and the service!

We thoroughly enjoyed all the food presented to us. We loved the attention to detail on presentation and the flavours were great too. We'd highly recommend the crispy fish in red curry sauce. The atmosphere was lacking though. The restaurant was having a quiet night, meaning we were quite aware of our own conversation and the extremely dated background music.

I love Pho Thong! We eat here quite often as it is within walking distance of where we live. The food is consistently good and variety of dishes impressive. Always service with a smile and the atmosphere is so relaxed and friendly. Presentation of the food is lovely and the flavours are very authentic. Don't be put off by the decor - the food is amazing!

Eaten here many times. Always really nice. Relaxed and unpretentious. Food is faultless and almost homely. Take away just as good as eating in. Definitely recommend the 'Chuchee Pla' fish dish!

Quirky little place with real character. The food is really lovely - good portion-sizes and nice presentation. The price is very reasonable, and the service is efficient. I would definitely go back there, it's a really adorable place to spend an enjoyable evening.

My wife and I went with another couple to try Pho Thong after we recently moved to the area. I'd heard a mixed set of reviews from this place, but on the whole it seemed the food was worth it. We were able to get a booking at short notice, which seemed a bit odd, but when we arrived, the place was packed, so perhaps we were just very fortunate!First impressions: The place has a very strange layout, like three rooms knocked through. The decor is tired and some of the fixtures and table settings are unusual. But we're here for the food and not to stare at the oddball place mats, right? There were two women serving and they were like Jekyll and Hyde. The older woman was very frosty and aloof, didn't even crack a smile, the younger was all smiles, very friendly and helpful. We were seated in a comfortable booth in the front window, which was nice and spacious for the four of us, but because it was in the middle of the really snowy week in January and therefore eleventy degrees below freezing, the blast of cold air coming in every time the door was opened was deeply unpleasant. And it did open. A lot. I dare say that under normal circumstances this wouldn't be an issue and, on warmer nights, a bit of a blessing. But when you've got penguins shuffling down the street shivering with the cold, it wasn't ideal. But it could've been worse, we could've been sat by the toilet door.We ordered a set menu and waited. It took a while for our food to arrive, but the place was heaving, there were a lot of people coming and going with takeouts and just these two poor ladies having to run about. But when it did come, it was worth the wait! Every single starter was tasty (especially the chicken satay, which was delicious) and had some beautiful and elaborate carved vegetables. There was just enough to whet our appetites for the main course.When the mains arrived, they too were all very tasty. The highlight was the green curry, which was served in a warmer and was so nice. Every dish was lovely, although I would have one complaint: There was nowhere near enough rice for four people. I'd definitely order more next time.When we came to order some coffee at the end of the night, we noticed something remarkable - the frosty woman serving had completely changed! As the night wore on and the restaurant grew quieter, she started to visibly relax and, by the time we were being served some liqueur coffees (and by then the only customers left in the place) she was transformed into a warm and welcoming host. I can only conclude from that that she is just coldly efficient when it's required.I've been to restaurants that serve better Thai food in more opulent surroundings (Vermillion in Miles Platting, or Jitrada in Sale), but you're paying a lot more to eat there. For a decent Thai fix on the doorstep for a good price, though, it's just the job.

A delightful gem in Mossley. Menu quite extensive for small restaurant. Eaten here several times & enjoyed every meal. Excellent service & nothing's too much trouble.

On coming to this restaurant as of countless visits before am so disappointed. My son and his partner and my other son and my husband and I came to this restaurant tonight after raving about the restaurant only to find that on arrival the owner had serious attitude problems which reflected on her customers as she treated us appalingly both in manerisms and in service, which went against everything we had told our guests who had travelled from London the same day to have a pleasant birthday meal with us on our recommendation. The food was good but seriously marred by the service and attitude which was displayed throughout the evening and we not only felt that we had done something wrong we felt we could not ask for anything without being treated with uttter contempt. We have been to this restaurant on numerous occasions and so therefore recommended the food and service and so to be treated like this was awful especially when our friends and family were put in this awful situation of which they picked up on immediately when seated at the table , it totally spoilt the evening and the best part of £100. This lady would be better employed as a camp comendante. An experience never ever to be repeated as we felt totally embarrassed by the whole situation

We order take-out about once or twice a month. Food is prepared very quickly - I never have to wait more than 10 mins before a family meal is prepared.The front of house is always pleasant and service for take out as a whole is excellent. The food is exceptionally good and authentic. We love the fact that they spice things up upon request as my wife and I love spicy food. I've never really dined in but decor is dated and IMO not suitable for families with very small children. However this would never put me off going there with friends perhaps.Although on a main road, parking is never a problem really.The best thing: consistently great food and service.The worst thing: No delivery.

Mother in laws birthday treat, she very happy. Surprisingly how many dishes seemed banana based but yum yum.Not the cheapest but I've paid similar prices for much worse. I'd definitely go again.

We've visited Pho-Thong numerous times and have enjoyed the odd cheeky take away too! The food is always delicious, service fantastic and wow! it is ridiculously cheap!! One quick tip, you get a slightly bigger portion when you take away rather than eating in.

What a charming little find. After visiting Thailand several times I felt like I was actually there again. Reasonable prices, authentic food, decor a bit tatty although I feel this is part of it's charm.

Went for a takeaway as the decor inside was just, well, a bit weird and dated (and apparently it's just had a referb). Had a couple of starters, pretty sure the spring rolls where microwaved and bought from somewhere like Iceland originally. The mains where shocking, especially the deep fried chicken. It was swimming in so oil and some sweet sauce which was too gloopy. Rice was definitely microwaved. Should have known better when we walked in. Will never try this place again - to make it even worse, it's so expensive!

The food was lovely and very reasonably priced! The waitress explained the menu and provided a recommendation to my partner which turned out to be delicious. As other reviewers have said, the decor is dated and the place mats are a little strange but the food and service more than makes up for this.

Friendly family restaurant, excellent service and good food,reasonably priced! Gets busy at weekends so booking is advisable. Never had a meal I did not like neither have my family and friends.try the fish and the tuna cups.....heaven!!!!

We have been here so many times over the past few years, as a couple, with friends, family, for birthday celebrations and with our children. We always have a lovely meal and the service is very professional, we are always amazed at how the hostess manages to stack the plates and serving dishes in one pile! The food is always well cooked and they are happy to advise and amend dishes to suit. I'm not sure why other reviewers take such offence to the decor, particularly the bread roll placemats, yes it's not super trendy but it's clean and for the prices you can't complain, we paid £41.90 for 3courses plus 3 drinks for two people - not bad.

Really enjoyed the service the lady who served us was very pleasant. The food was fine but not the best Thai food I have had. Will revisit

Recommended this place by a friend. The worst Thai food we have ever eaten, the platter starter was very average. The main course of chicken massamam was literally a few pieces of chicken and a couple of potatoes in some curry sauce that could have come from the Chinese chippy next door. The rice was warmed in the microwave, the noodles were soggy and overlooked. My wife's chicken pe-nang tasted like chicken cooked in Mayo and swimming in oil with coconut milk poured on it. This place Is history. A waste of £43

We had a meal here as a family a couple of weeks ago and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. We had a set banquet for four although there were four adults and two small children and the meal was sufficient and delicious! There was a wide variety of food for each course and we all enjoyed every one! The lady who served us was very helpful regarding the two small children children in our party and was very attentive! We will definitely be returning very soon and would thoroughly recommend this restaurant!

What a gem of a find! i loved my experience, the service was spot on. The speed was phenomenal and the quantity was brilliant.it was great value for money and so beautifully presented.the decor was a bit hap hazard, the bread rolls on the place mats and the toilet doors in the restaurant need better decorations but i was there for a great Thai meal and it didn't disappoint.
