Placed an order by phone. They got it all wrong

Such lovely friendly staff. Great for a quick healthy lunch.

Server visibly eye rolled when I asked to order a sandwich. None of the bowls of mush under the counter were labelled up so who knows what they were without asking like Borat in the cheese isle. Staff seem more at home in a greasy spoon or a truckers cafe than an artisan sandwich shop - felt like I'd get shanked for asking for a sprinkle of sprouted greens and a drizzle of truffle oil.

WENT INTO THIS CAFFEE FOR A CHICKEN RAP. i NOTICED THAT THE STAFF PREPARED THE FOOD USING THERE HANDS WITH NO HYGEINE GLOVES ON AND PUTTING THE SALAD AND RAP TOGETHER WITH BARE HANDS. SUBSEQUENTLY HAD A BAD TUMMY. THIS RUINS THE EXPERIENCE OF WHAT IS A NICE LUNCH CAFFEE SO PLEASE MANAGEMENT MAKE SURE YOUR STAFF ADHERE TO GOOD SERVING PRACTICES.

I will miss the meal.deals you no longer do. Shame

lack of staff, over priced. System they use is simply mindboggling in comparison to the other branches in Manchester. Literally 3 people to speak to over food orders, 2 of them just stood staring at customers, whilst another was doing orders for 6 or plus. Walked out as did others, in and out job from Greggs at half the price. Won't be going in again,

I’m giving it a 4 because the quality of the food was great. However, the process of ordering is confusing. Despite the cafe not being busy when we first arrived, there was nobody present to serve us at the bar, and no signs actually telling you the order process. Initially I thought, as many might, that you order at the tills.

Got yelled at for making order at wrong counter Apparently there is a process and I'm not psychic enough to know it.

Nice place to sit with a brew and work

Love this place for lunch. So much variety of things. Sometimes though some fillings could look a bit stale so maybe covering the fillings properly would be better. Overall though my personal fav place for lunch most of the time.

The food is nice, but the service is absolutely terrible. I have been in 4 times and each time you are literally stood waiting. Nobody acknowledges you're there, they just carry on with what they are doing. The last time I went in I actually left. I counted 6 members of staff and after 2 minutes of not one person asking if they could help, I left. Its a shame because the food is nice. If and when you get it. Edit. Under new management. Even slower. You go in, they don't say hello. They don't acknowledge you. I was there today and I was the 3rd person to walk out. Horribly slow.

Sure, it's OK. Got a coffee there waiting for the post office to open. It was normal.

Brilliant Salads and fresh Sandwiches

Great selection of freshly made sandwiches.

Expensive salad, sandwiches and pasta. Taste is not bad at all. Worth it if you want to feel like a business person and pay £3 for a water bottle :)

Compré un café tarde y dolor al chocolate, el café estaba tan caliente que luché por cargarlo y me quemó la boca, la pasta era sólida como una roca incomible. Entré en una reunión tan pronto como llegué, por lo que no tuve tiempo de retirarla. Los envié por correo y no obtuve respuesta.

Food isn't great, slow service and staff don't listen to your order.

Excellent breakfast choices, very tasty

I had quite a nice cappuccino here, the place was surprisingly quiet for a Friday afternoon. Didn't have a queue so service was nice and quick, although coffee was a bit on the pricey side.

Buena comida e ingredientes. Aquellos que dicen que es caro comparan la comida barata con la buena calidad, obviamente será un precio diferente. El único inconveniente es que necesita un mejor sistema de pedidos, necesita una mejor selección de sándwiches preparados. Sé que los hacen en la mañana, pero si hacen algunos más durante el almuerzo, sería mejor para las personas que desean entrar y salir sin un sándwich seleccionado a medida. En general feliz y seguirá visitando.

Dry sandwich, apparently fridge was to blame but no one looked like they were going to do anything about it.

Never had bad food from here a little more expensive that the rest but you realise where thats going when you tuck in to their sandwiches.

Just started work around in the corner and had this place recommended for lunch. Having been there twice now I can definitely recommend too. Lovely salads and sandwiches.

Como este lugar solía aunque un poco más caro, de la buena calidad para el desayuno. Estos días su vergonzoso lo mal que está el servicio. En una mañana, no mucho muy concurrido de personal charlando entre sí haciendo comidas y una mujer sonriente en el desayuno - por tercera vez hoy alguien enfermó de espera y fui antes de ser servido (esto es sin cola). Yo estaba allí 10 minutos para dos rebanadas de pan y un té (2 libras. 60) y no conseguí más que un scowl del personal. Necesidad de encontrar un nuevo lugar para ir, también, de acuerdo con otra opinión sobre el personal mal el idioma. V poco profesional! Colega me dijo (el servicio es tan malo si no peor a la hora del almuerzo).

Idioma es asqueroso entre el personal - como se puede escuchar desde la cocina a la parte frontal. Utilizan la regla de lo que se conoce como '5' cuando dejan comida segunda a su suelo, que creo que es terriblemente poco profesional y antihigiénicos. Sin duda no volveré.

Absolutely love this place! Since arriving in Manchester and starting work this has become to the go to lunch time place! The staff are so friendly and helpful, salads and soups are always freshly made and really flavourful. Not too expensive but very high quality produce! Cannot recommend highly enough.

Good organisation and a prompt service makes this food venue an excellent place to collect your lunchtime food from. The superb choice of ingredients surely meets the needs of the most demanding of customers, never had a bad experience from this purveyor of take-away food either here or at their outlets in Chester and Shrewsbury.

The best Philpotts in town! Very nice hot and cold food. Also does a decent cup of coffee.

Lovely breakfast sandwich made to order, staff very friendly and a nice clean place BUT worst cup of coffee ever! And the cup of tea wasn't much better!

Queue for food , queue for salad bar, queue to pay....forget it. Savouries on Fountain St are so much better. Very poor customer service.

PhilPotts is favourite place for work time lunch. I always opt for a jacket with cheese and beans and occasionally I will have breakfast. The food if slightly more price but the quality seems better then local competitors. Great service and funny staff (those around the jackets/stir frys anyway)

I really like this place and in general good value for money EXCEPT if you have a sandwich they charge you for every item so it can stock up! Also not sure if it's the seasonings or the bacon but the sandwiches and salads can be very salty sometimes. Apart from that a good place for lunch, friendly staff and a good atmosphere...lots on the menu

Convenient for people who work near Piccadilly Gardens. Sandwiches are mediocre, especially if you're vegetarian. The salads, however, are very filling with decent ingredients. Avoid the coffee. My colleagues agree; worst in Manchester.

Always enjoy Philpotts and the Chicken Bacon and Avocado is a particular favorite. Good value and good service

I have started working near Philpotts, Spring Gardens and thought I'd pay that bit more expecting a good quality bacon. DO NOT BOTHER!!!!!! The bacon was salty, v.small portion on a thin/small barm and not worth £2.20 or £1 for that matter.

I love this place!. I work around the corner and go once a week for a treat. They have an extensive range of hot and cold sandwiches, cakes and drinks along with many other things lunchy. I'm not going to talk much about what they have on the menu, it changes regularly so go there and find out. I'd rather talk about the quality. This is fresh food made from scratch using high quality ingredients. My current favorite is crispy aromatic duck with hoi sin sauce, cucumber and spring onions on a sunflower seed brown roll. You will pay a little extra for food from here, but it is because you are getting excellence in return. Go try it, you will be delighted.

All sandwiches should be this good. From the filling to the type of bread you can customise your sandwich with the finest ingredients.

The sandwiches are alright in philpotts but way over priced and what is that sliced bread about? The hot roast food is usually decent

Philpott's is my go-to sandwich bar when I feel I deserve a treat. Their signature salad has no comparison and is certain to fill the hungriest tummy with beautiful flavours that linger rather satisfyingly on the tongue. I love that you can custom build your sandwich so it's exactly as you want it, beginning with the bread type you prefer all the way to which dressings/sauces you love. If you haven't tried it, do. I defy you not to love it.

Arriving in Manchester and being quite hungry after 3 and a half hours travel, we passed by this place on our way to the hotel. We thought at first it was a cafe, which was the reason we went inside. There was a long queue of customers inside. I ordered an egg and cress sandwich and then had to join the paying queue to order soup. The broccoli and Stilton soup was overpriced, watery and bland. Definately not worth the £3 odd I paid. The sandwich fillings looked nice. Due to the place being busy, it's obviously a very popular place. I just wasn't overly impressed.

Philpotts has always been a good place for lunch in Manchester but today I was unimpressed. The service at the branch by City Tower was chaotic with a long queue. Warm food was cold before it was paid for. I wasn't impressed by the way the lady on the hot food counter was touching the meat with bare fingers. It's not particularly cheap so needs to sharpen up. Also directional signage as to how it all works needs to clear for irregular visitors.

Went here after some colleagues said it was ok. Went to the hot sandwich carvery at the end where an older lady with not much English picked at my meat / sandwich filling with her bare fingers and half way through making my sandwich pulled out a monging looking rag from under the counter that was covered in bits and wiped around the counter / my sandwich. She used about 2 square inches of meat on a white baton so there was barely any filling at all. She then got a microscope out to apply .0002 micrograms of apple sauce and then I had the joy of paying a fiver for the worst sandwich I have had in ages. The meat had probably been sitting in the heater tray under the hot lamp for quite a while and it was very dry. Half of the meat filling was just fat and sinew. Still very hungry - had a rough morning at the office and going to face a tough afternoon with an empty stomach feeling very very disappointed.

So I had a jacket potato, with tuna and onion, quality of plastic cutlery was awful and the potato wasn't much better, avoid it would say

Decent sandwiches and salads, I enjoyed the Pastrami and Stilton which was very tasty. As previously stated its a bit on the pricy side if you work near there but great for a one off.

Popped in as me and the lad were famished. Lovely, friendly service. Cracking bacon and sausage sandwich stuffed with tasty produce and a good cup of coffee really hit the spot. Will drop in again when in Manchester.

The variety is huge and the portions are great, the decor is so nice and modern, you would want to spend the rest of the afternoon there.

Can't go wrong here with the sandwich or soup. It gets really busy here so be prepared but it is worth the wait JB

Convenient location, next door to where I work but still I rarely go in as less than 5 minutes away are at least 7 cheaper options for a decent priced lunch.Sandwich filling options are great but if you upgrade to a baguette etc the price hike is steep compared with most other shops.I also think the price of their soups are ridiculous when you compare them to the quality available at Eat for example.Their Gourmet soup is never of a great quality is generally a mish mash of previous days soups.The only good thing about this place is the manager, always smiling and helpful, although she is responsible for making the soup !!

I have been to Pillpotts many times and always love the different fillings you can get plus the Soup is amazing. Special friday treat today Brie, Bacon and cranberry loved it - keep up the great work!

Not the cheapest place for a sarnie but I go here nearly every day because the choice of different fillings is exceptional. Pastrami, chilli and stilton is amazing as is the turkey bacon and emmental!! Crisps and snacks are quite unique too and the staff are great!! I have been having lunch at Philpotts for over 15 years as they have a (or had?) a place in Chester too which was the busiest sandwich shop in the city. Brilliant...

Very good location, as in the city centre and open early. Clean, fresh place. Choice of healthy breakfast I found was limited. Great selection of cooked breakfast- fried eggs, sandwiches and pastries. Porridge was available, but very limited on fresh fruit that could accompany your porridge or little or no spice e.g. cinnamon. Great if you are not too fussed what you have for breakfast.

Philpotts just has to be one of the best butty makers in the City for me. The choice and variety is second to none, everything is freshly made for you, the sandwiches are delicious. The hot food section is also great with plenty of choice to tempt you. There is always a buzz because it is so busy but you are rarely kept waiting. People just go back again and again.

decided to order lunch here as it always appeared to be busy when I passed by. I ordered took it back to my office and commenced. This had no distinctive flavours and not somewhere I would rush back to for lunch. I was totally disappointed - or perhaps my expectations were too high

Sandwiches aren't my natural first choice and although the service is prompt and wide choice you are paying a premium for it and if you go for standard fillings it's not really value for money

Philpott's is located just a block from where I was working in Manchester, and I went every day for lunch (2 trips to Manchester, 6 days each visit). I never tired of the food, and the selection is vast. They have wonderful made-to-order salads and sandwiches, or if you are in a really hurry, they have them pre-made that you can just pick up. The people there are very friendly, and the queue moves quickly. Definitely recommended if you are in the Oxford Street vicinity.

Nothing like a bacon butty and a great cup of coffee to set you up for the day. Philpotts does exactly what it says on the tin. Good quality, great prices and no fuss. Lunch is pretty good too but the brekky does it for me :)

This restaurant offers "FRESH" sandwich. When I was in US, I used to go to subway.But in Manchester, I felt the sandwiches in Manchester not so relishing .. I had chicken tikka sandwich at Philpotts, it was yummy ... Thanks to the person who placed a comment about this restaurant on twitter ... Both eat-in and takeaway is possible .. so near to the Arndale mall

What an amazing place to get your lunch. Sandwiches, salads, soups, daily hot specials, noodle dishes made to order, roast of the day. It was really enjoyable.
