Today was my birthday and one of the things I really wanted to do was go have some fish & chips on the beach. we found Philpotts fish & chips in Hythe. Myself and my daughter decided to have sausage & chips and my partner had fish & chips. I can honestly say it was one of the best fish & chips I have ever had. The curry sauce was delicious too. we we're served by a very warm and welcoming couple. I also noticed how well precautions we're being taken in these current times. Next time we're passing through Hythe I will certainly be returning. *****

Due to lockdown and having time in my hands, I’d thought I’d use this oppor-‘tuna’-ty to leave a review. I’ve used this chippy numerous times since moving to Hythe a couple of years ago, and it think it’s ‘Brill’. You don’t have to be a brain ‘sturgeon’ to know this is by far the best place to get your fish and chips. When if first tried the fish here I was like “Oh my ‘Cod!’” And I’ve not stopped visiting since, some say I’m ‘hooked’! It’s the best ‘plaice’ for fish n chips and I really believe that to the bottom of my ‘sole’. I’ll Stop ‘carping’ on now, and sorry about the puns, they are ‘eely’ bad!

Popped in for just a quick lunch whilst checking out the area & stumbled across this wonderful restaurant. A lovely classic Fish & Chip shop that offers both takeaway & eat-in. It's super clean & Covid compliant 😷. I will definitely return ✌👍, best wishes Jay 🚀🦒

Treated my boyfriend for dinner in Hythe for the evening and by midnight both of us were being ill. Very greasy chips, and cold pies, however decent portion sizes. Massive food health & hygiene mistakes taking place such as handling money alongside touching food directly after without using hand sanitizer or washing hands. No masks worn in shop by staff, nor any screens up. The guy serving was polite enough, but overall the experience deteriorated when my partner and I both felt very ill a couple hours after, when neither of us had eaten anything else after having dinner. Unfortunately, we will not be returning.

Fab traditional seaside town Fish and Chip shop dating back hundreds of years catering for both takeaway and a sit-down café area. Fish is usually cooked to order, decent sizes. always fresh, high quality and rarely more than a 5-10 minute wait even at tea time. I can still remember this shop from 50 years ago when chips were cooked in Beef dripping, sigh, still great chips today though even today. If you are visiting Hythe this shop is a must!

As an American coming to England, this is what I think of as a real fish and chips shop. First the outside is so inviting....with the name of the shop is a pretty green and white. Walk in and you have a ceiling about 6 feet so if you are tall watch your head. But once you are in you REALLY feel like you have gone back in time. Now you have a choice.....in front of youare some yummy items that you can buy and take away. Or you can order off the huge menu in front of you on the wall. Several types of fish are available.....some breaded, some battered. You can put in your order and wait to take it out OR.....head for the back of the shop where there are lovely little tables with much more head room. Outside you will see the beautiful Solent....great view. Most likely the owner will be here to take your order. He is he son of the original owner and a really nice person. Don’t be shy........if you aren’t familiar with a traditional fish and chips shop, ask any questions.....they are happy to help. And don’t be afraid of the mushy peas......they are just peas...mushed. I don’t get why.....must be a British thing. Anyway do try Philpot’s Fish and chips. The fish is perfectly cooked and just delicious.

Who can visit England without partaking in a lunch of fish & chips? My husband and I stopped in today while visiting the quaint village of Hythe. Philpott's is a destination that stands on its own. We have travelled extensively in the UK and have never had a better meal of haddock and fries. The shop is not fancy but it is very clean and the owners are lovely. This is a generational business, the proprietor having honed his craft since the age of six alongside his dad. The location is perfect. After dining you can peruse the market and shops. If you'd love to support a family business and eat well at the same time, do not hesitate to stop in. We paid only 20 pounds for a very generous portion of haddock, chips and mushy peas with two cokes.

I don't usually write reviews but this warranted it! We had fish and chips for a large group a couple of weeks ago and sat on the benches outside with the dog. The chips were soft on the inside, crispy on the outside, the fish cooked perfectly, soft and falling apart with crispy batter. The kids wolfed it down as well as my elderly other (she's not easily impressed but this time she stated "best fish and chips ever!"). The owner was friendly, chatty and down to earth ....we were a cold, wet group (with a muddy dog) but he welcomed us all and cooked us a damn fine dinner! Thankyou!

Good quality traditional fish & chips that compares well with any in the Yorkshire heartland of fish & chips. Writing as a connoisseur of this food, Phipotts has a varied menu and very friendly and helpful staff. Good quality fried fish should - like at this shop - have the fish skin removed before cooking. Many fish & chip friers in the south of England don't remove the skin because they use deep frozen fish that cannot withstand being deskinned. Only fresh fish are suitable. Philpots does it better - the traditional way. Price compares well, - an inexpensive and sustaining healthy meal in traditional style.

Just eaten the best fish and chips ever! The chips were hand cut with REAL potatoes, and the fish (I had cod) was super fresh, flaky with the crispiest batter. I'm a small eater and even the small serve was pretty huge. The restaurant was exactly what I wanted, quintessentially English with low ceilings, and a real old worldly feel. I sat in the outside eating area which looks over the sea, and just watched the boats glide by. The young couple who run the place are lovely and friendly, and have recently taken over the shop. I will definitely come back here if I ever visit Hythe again.

Hear me out, this place has always done decent job with kebabs. However after the recent refurb I was intrigued by their "chicken shop" menu. I asked boss man serving me if the hotwings were good and had a spicy kick he replied yes.... so as a bit of a chicken wing connoisseur I thought I was in for a bit of a treat! When I got got home and uncovered the food I was really disappointed! The wings were the smallest I've ever seen they had no coating whatsoever, were extremely bland and most of all not a hint of spice! (Their supposed to be hotwings!!) The fried chicken on the bone was very dry and again not a sign of any seasoning. 2 stars given for the chips as they were nice enough.
