We chose 3 Slovak/Czech meals with 2 different draught Czech lagers. All excellent, like a taste from home. Atmosphere is of a mountain pub the Tatras or Alps, although on a Sunday afternoon it was rather empty. More people need to know about it and try the Eastern European food. Probably the best one we tried was the stuffed schnitzel 'Chicken spinach'.

Horrendous.. steak served well done (not what I asked for) steak and sauce cold. My friends chicken burgers were over done and tasted of nothing but chip fat. We all ordered food a table of 9 … the kids meals came 30 minutes after the adults mains. We ordered 3 pizzas they all arrived at different times the last pizza arrived nearly an hour after mains arrived. Everyone complained about their meal. Staff rude and not exactly dressed smart either. Run down restaurant with rubbish food and incapable staff who stand on their phones. Go to McDonald’s :)

Popped in and found it had space to accommodate us on a Friday night after a matinee at the theatre. A good menu, with plenty even for the fussiest of eaters. I'm not familiar with Czech or Slovakian food but I very much enjoyed my Kuchárová Pomsta. I would more than happily return

Lots of eating places in Piccadilly. Looked quiet so gave it a go. Food different and tasty - really enjoyed the dumplings. Wine cheap and a very good Sauvignon Blanc for less than £13 and totally drinkable. Waitress struggled a little with English but who cares she was nice and service quick. Left my umbrella and they kept it for me when I asked for it next day. It doesn't look much but worth visiting - enjoyed the evening.

I have been this Peter's Tavern over few years with my family, but I wasn't impressed and disappointed last Saturday 25th. I ordered Mixed Grills, rosemary pork steak and chicken nuggets with chips. Meats were great like we always had and vegetables overcoked and burnt. Disappointed 2 small Mayonnaise sachets charged £2.00. Toilets were disgusting and clogged toilet. I am not sure their kitchen are clean??? We will not and NEVER come back again

We went to the city centre of Stoke-on-Trent today, its called Hanley. We were recommended to try Peters Tavern which is a Hungarian restaurant. My hubby and I thought we would try goulash. He had Hungarian goulash and I had a pork one with sauerkraut and cream. Both meals came with a very soft white bread (perhaps sourdough?). They were very tasty. I’m afraid I can’t remember what mine was called, but was lovely. Nice friendly atmosphere there too.

I thought we should try this takeaway as we enjoy the other EE takeaway but they stopped doing my favourite food and being Autistic and not eating much meat it is hard for me to change food ideas when I like one. Improve to a 4 food hygiene as that is usually my criteria 4 or 5 so this will be a one off. The soups were great, who would of thought kidney beans make a good soup, would of been nice to have some authentic bread with it like your rivals. The various battered cheeses were great and reminded me of Birmingham xmas market. Dad enjoyed his meaty food and Marlenka cake is always fab.

Very disorganised and not very truthful employees. We called the restaurant twice to make an reservation due to our long trip to check this place out. Every phone call was ending with reassurance that we don’t need a reservation even though we were insisting. Of course the moment we showed up at exact time that we said we would like to come, place was packed. We can’t get over why wouldn’t the lady answering the phone twice tell us such a thing and simply not take our reservation (for 5people may I add). Ladies that were in the restaurant at the time of our arrival weren’t very helpful either. Just made a sad face and suggested that we should have made a reservation. Really frustrating and utterly disappointing. I don’t think we gonna retry to visit this place ever again.

I've been a fan of Peters tavern ever since they were in Hanley market. Food has always been tasty and service never less than spot on. On the cold Monday lunchtime there were a few tables taken and the place had a nice atmosphere. We eagerly awaited 2 x Goulash with fries and a side salad and weren't disappointed. It was as tasty and filling as ever with speedy and friendly service, what's not to love?

Have been in Peter's tavern few times, either with my half Czech half Slovakian wife for a night out or before going to theatre next door. The food is traditional Slovakian and other Eastern European food, well made. The service is full of smiles, although sometimes can be slow at least for my standards. The beer is, well, Czech, e.g. the best beer in the world. Will go again, and again

This odd looking cafe / restaurant in the Cultural Quarter (that still makes me laugh) of Hanley has been around a few year now and billed as a Czech food although it serves food from various 'EE' locations (Hungary, Poland etc).It was cold outside and only slightly warmer inside and weren't exactly warmly greeted; maybe because we were English? A semi-friendly waitress waved us to the back of the building which is kitted out to look like a giant sauna (only without the heat). To us Brits, some of the menu was interesting. I opted for a Langos (Hungarian deep-fried dough) but they had run out of them plus a few other things. Then I was going to order a breakfast (it looked good on the picture) but decided to be less of a philistine and ordered an EE dish. When I saw the state of the toilets and back area (which looked like the rear entrance to a knocking-shop) , I had fears for what lay in the kitchen. The toilet was small and needed a desperate refurb and on flushing sounded like it was going to take off!Still we had already ordered. My partner ordered sauerkraut soup (which she liked but I thought it was meh) with came with some semi-stale bread. I eons for mine. We told the waitress we wanted the food to come all together but she didn't bother listening. No one told us the food would take about a year to come and there was no apology. After a long time, the food came but it wasn't worth the wait. The food was sheep's cheese and potato dumplings in a sort of semolina splat with some incinerated smoked sausage and bacon that was so burned I thought it had passed through Chernobyl on the way from the kitchen.Decor-wise apart from the wood, it is quite dull wall-wise with just a odd pics of ibexes, mountain scenes and wooden wheels with cobwebbed (not an effect, just dirty) lamps dotted about. Vinyl flooring and wooden semi-comfortable chairs. Red embroidered hearts adorned the tables though they should have given the punters a 1000 piece jigsaw to while away the time. There is also a large TV with EE shows on to presumably distract from the speedy service.Whoever Pete is, we didn't see him; he has probably starved to death or eaten his own food presumably.

It didnt look much from the outside, it not too big inside but was busy I guess supported mostly by locals. We were going to the close by Regent theatre. I thought the decor seemed ok, wooden walls like a log cabin. Young couple taking orders, running the bar working hard. Interesting menu , continental cuisine, I would have like the time to sample something different, but we didnt want anything too heavy before the performance at the theater, my daughter had the chicken and cheese burger, with fries, I had chicken burger with fries and a small side salad. By the way excellent value the two meals only came to 9.20, neither of us had a drink (people going to the theater were ordering drinks to sit outside with so a steady flow of customers, the warmer weather helped.) We had to wait over 20 minutes for our food to arrive but it was well worth it, i believe the food is freshly, 'home cooked' the chicken was very tasty, excellent in fact, moist and not dry or greasy (a 10/10 for that) Wish we could have stayed longer, the desserts looked gorgeous. Highly recommended, but give yourself time to sit back and enjoy. (this Tavern is on Piccadilly, pedestrianized area, so you will need to find parking if you are driving

we have a Slovakian neighbour and she took us to the tavern, it was very busy, but we didn't mind waiting. it was a sunday afternoon and there seemed to be only one young girl on duty which meant that tables were left with dishes on, we ordered two different soups, I had the sauerkraut and my wife had the kidney bean soup, the soups were really lovely, now I dont know about other countries, but here in England we normally finish our starters before the main arrives, but on this occasion we only got half way through our soup when the girl dropped our mains onto the table which meant, that our table became full and our mains went cold while we rushed to complete our soups. all that apart, the food was authentic and very tasty. while there I found the sentinel on a table and when I read it I found an old picture of Piccadilly actually showing the very tavern in the 70's. I tried to point this out to the staff but she was far to busy and didn't seem to understand me, I just thought it would make a nice memento for them but hey ho.

This is no frills dining but great value for money food if you want an adventure into Czech cuisine. A Czech friend recommended we go there as he considered the food a authentic. There were 4 of us and we ordered 2 portions of the Czech spicy sausage, Czech bread, horseradish and mustard as shared starter...fabulous and good portions. We had different mains each. The stars were the Chicken Paprishka and the goulash with fluffy dumplings. Plenty of food but we didn't feel stodged. We had complimentary shots, plenty of Czech draught beer, wine and a couple of liqueurs. The bill was a ridiculous £55. If you like to try different food and don't mind the cafe style this place is certainly worth visiting.

Called with my sister and brother-in-law at Peters Tavern, early Wednesday evening, before going to the theatre to see comedian Kevin Bridges. Liked the idea of a nice hearty goulash and dumplings washed down with a pint of Czech 'Kozul' lager. I have to say the meal exceeded our expectations. The goulash was really tasty and the dumplings were extremely light. Big portion too. All at very reasonable prices. Its interior décor is cabin like with natural wood. Nice and different. The menu is limited but the Hungarian/Slovakian fayre looks nice and inexpensive. It was a pleasant change to sample tasty, hearty food and we were made to feel very welcome.
