Peter Kavanagh's in Liverpool

This place is amazing. It has two original bars, with the servery connecting them with a passage, then a larger room that the pub extended into may years ago. The interior is very special. there are curved walls, stain glass galore, lovely woodwork with carved gargoyles. the front bar has scenes from Dickens and the rear from Hogarth painted on the walls. 4 real ales on tap. One of the most unique pubs in the world.

The classic English pub. Superb location, looks very good, perfect vibe. The bartenders are super helpful, helpful and very responsive. 2 or 3 beers were put in, delicious, if we ever return to the area, we will stop here again. I recommend!

Visting from over the border no idea of what is good and bad. Nearest pub to were I was staying, so gave it a bash. Great pub friendly people definitely recommended if your in the area. Decor is amazing, one off pub.

A unique pub. I love the two small snug type rooms and the interior decor. Please don’t change. A good pint of Guinness too. Abbot ale is a regular bitter which is very nice.

A pub full of character. Sitting in here is much like being in my own front room but with a lot less taxidermy and a huge amount more Beatles memorabilia. Lovely staff, friendly and relaxing. I admit that the only stout was Guinness which means I probably will never come back but I'm glad I popped in. Less beer fussy people will find so much to adore here.

One of the last bastions of history in Liverpool. You should not miss this place.

Best pub. Always great energy here, welcoming and fun and filled with such interesting objects! This is such a special place and even better when there’s live music!

I have been pleased with volunteers karaoke 🎤 performances, they sing from there harts . Cos it's not their job. Historical decorations all around it were epic birthday memorials.

Lots of folks say what makes a good pub is the beers etc they sell. I must have been in 300 pubs in my life and disagree. What makes a good pub to me is the atmosphere, the clientele and most of all the staff. I read up about this place and took a half hour walk to eventually find it. Hugely impressed and made to feel extremely welcome from moment I arrived until leaving. Not sure what they are paying Mark but it's no near enough. Hope to be back our next visit. We visited Peter Kavanagh's in Liverpool, near the Cathedral, based on a friend's recommendation. It was around 3pm, from the outside we weren't sure if it was open, but went in and was pleased it was. The pub was quiet, with just a few locals and groups catching up. The Guinness was good and affordable, as was the Shropshire ale. The pub has several nooks, perfect for private conversations, which adds to its charm. The bar staff were friendly enough, and we paid in cash. It feels like a true local spot, complete with a fruit machine and regulars, but it also had some quirky history. The decor is filled with fun objects, especially behind the bar. Overall, good pint, good service - recommended.

Tueaday is Open Mic night. And a relatively new venture at PK's from what we could tell. I went there thinking that it might be OK, but the enthusiasm of the crowd and the real piano really sent the evening to the next level. They even offered a pint of free beer to performers. Only downside there is that the place is so far from our house and even a bus trip would leave a long walk to get there, so I drove. A great night out and I will definitely be back.

This is undoubtedly a special Liverpool hidden gem if you're lucky enough to find it. An amazing place with fabulous friendly staff, as well as interesting friendly customers and entirely welcoming, highly recommended, I visited on Sunday. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

I love this place! Great spot for a lil drinky, really interesting decor and lovely staff. If you’re big on pub quizzes then the one hosted here (think it’s at 22:00 on Thursdays) is definitely worth checking out; genuinely challenging, and full of super interesting bits of trivia! Also, Rita is a gem.

A great local pub. Very Interesting decorations. A pub definitely worth the effort to visit. A selection of real ales and draft beers with a well stocked bar and a friendly barkeep.

Can't rate the food, because i didn't have any. Prices are decent and not over inflated. Lovely friendly staff. Lots of quirky nooks, crannies and drinking areas amidst an intriguing array of retro/vintage paraphernalia strung up overhead in a canopy of curiosity to get you looking and talking over your drinks. Out of the way too, so not full of townsfolk falling in and out constantly as they pub crawl their way through the premises, as would happen half a mile away in the town centre. I liked it. I will come again.

What can one say about such a historic and decorated pub? Beautiful from the moment you turn the corner onto the narrow street. Stumbled upon this place and had to wait a bit for them to open at noon because I just had to see the inside. Every inch of this place is rustic and has a story. The small alcoves/drinking rooms are the best part. Has that old smell, in a good way. Barkeep was super friendly and helpful. Four cask handles and several draft options. Also one of the cheaper pints in town at less than £4. A neighborhood pub doesn’t get better than this!

I had a really nasty experience in Peter Kavanagh's tonight. I'm not a regular in this pub but for the last year or so I've had drinks there as a friend lives nearby. Tonight for reasons only known to himself, the barman started on me and accused me of looking down on barstaff, people on minimum wage, and the working class. I found this particularly offensive because I have belonged to all this groups at some point in my life. Still do. I don't look down on anybody. Deciding not to buy another drink after the way the barman spoke to me, I went to sit with my friend while he finished his drink. The barman then followed me over and started on me again. This time he became threatening and aggressive. As I was making my way out, he came at me and I raised my hand to stop him assaulting me. He then had the audacity to accuse me of assaulting him. At this point another customer intervened to stop the barman attacking me. Unfortunately this is not the first time I have witnessed or experienced unacceptable behaviour from staff in this bar but this was by far the worst and definitely the last. I won't be drinking here again and a result I recommend others give it a swerve. Hundreds other bars in Liverpool better than this place.

This really is a gem of a place. Full of genuine characters and has a charm all of its own. I definitely recommend it.

Avoid this one if you are a tourist, the local clientele aren't so nice and try to intimidate you. It's a shame the interior and staff are great.

A lovely old style, slightly eccentric pub. It has whatever you want, quiet times and times when it is rammed, normally when there is a singer on. Lovely community pub, with dark rooms so you can huddle up plus space at the bar if your waiting for a friend. Outside seating area too. If you are looking for somewhere more community oriented than the hedonistic affray that are town centre pubs...then head here.

If it's not the best pub in Liverpool then it's right up there

Liverpool institution! Not visited for a number of years, glad to see it still pretty much the same.. Friendly patrons and decent selection of beer (I had a pint of ' Blueberry Hill', full of flavour!). Decor is still crazy, one of the best decorated bars I have ever seen. There was plenty of space to sit and a fair few tourists seemed to be in, which I wasn't expecting. All trying the Guinness, which I am told is one of the best in Liverpool. People certiantly seemed to be enjoying it. Great place to visit and just chill out.

Came here as it was mentioned in the Good Beer Guide, but left very disappointed. All the ales were off and the only cider on tap was Strongbow. We heard it was a pub with great character, but after seeing people vaping inside, it wasn't worth looking at.

Contender for the best pub in Liverpool. Always a good selection of well kept real ales. Decor is outstanding, worth a visit just to look at. Proper.

Rude staff and had to get into a argument to get water which is a legal requirement btw... disappointed after spending £100+ on NYE in that place

Great little pub, atmospheric, traditional, full of paraphernalia, bar area plus numerous rooms and spaces off if you want a seat and a chat, very good choice of cask ale, reasonable prices. Just a little bit out from the busyness of the city centre. Long may it remain natural and not over developed.

I love this pub, and enjoy going here when I come home to Liverpool. They have some great acts. Just a shame it shuts so early and it would great if they could stay open for drinks till 2 am.

Probably one of the most authentic pub I have ever been to. Lots of interesting brick a brack and artworks and woodwork. Live music once in a while and quiz night. Lots of locals.

To sum it up because no one wants a long review, ......The drinks were reasonably priced, the venue itself is probably one of the best boozers in Liverpool and the staff were friendly and helpful. A great little hidden gem. I can't wait to return.

A visit to Liverpool is not complete without a visit to Peter kavanaghs. There's just something wonderful weird about the place that you rarely find elsewhere.

Have been going to Kavanagh's for 43yrs it's a fantastic pub. Always friendly staff .I used to go for breakfast when my daughter was little so that 30yrs ago 😆

Incredible local pub with a rich history

Great pub with phenomenal staff. They know their stuff and it's a brilliant place for local musicians. They get tons of local bands who to be the next merseybeat band. Absolutely lovely time.

What a boss little boozer, 1st time actually goin in and il deffo be back. Great pint, nice, crisp and just what you need after a gruelling 10hr shift.

First time visiting on Saturday. Had a great couple of hours drinking and speaking to the locals, aswell as collecting empty crisp & snack packets for a challenge 🤣 Staff really friendly, reasonably priced drinks, great atmosphere. Enjoyed looking at the history of the pub. We will be back.
