Fabulous food and a very pretty pub. Staff couldn't do enough for you. And if you have children there's a little zoo at the rear of the property.

What a fantastic place Food - amazing Service - amazing Price - my wife and I ate a main each and my son had a kids meal with drinks came to £50 which we feel is amazing value for money when you consider everything (and the zoo)

We looked at the menu online, before we arrived and the menu we were presented with at the table, was very different with far fewer choices! My chicken was inedible as it was so salty, tough and stringy. The other menu choices made by our group were disappointing and over priced. I certainly won't be visiting here again to be "ripped off"!

Very poor Sunday roast dinner. Lamb overcooked, one roast potato and half a roast parsnip. Some of the other vegetables were undercooked. Mint sauce just vinegar with a small amount of mint floating in it. Very disappointing

Fantastic food, fantastic service

We went there 2 days in a row and were received with the same enthusiasm, the same empathy and the same kindness with a different team! The (historical) setting is really very nice and the food is good with very reasonable prices and wise and relevant advice. Alas no Guinness on tap.

Very nice food but hellish expensive for what we had. Sunday carvery pudding and a few beers for 4 adults and a child £250.

Staff were so accommodating and took time to talk to us. They also made us a cocktail that wasn’t on the menu at our request. Great people 👏

Very good food and service. With regard to the service, I was very impressed by Aaron who took our order. His knowledge of the menu and range of draught beers on offer was excellent. I would thoroughly recommend a visit to the Penycae Inn, which is located in a beautiful countryside setting (close to 'Graig yr Nos' Country park) and gateway to the stunning 'Brecon Beacons National Park'.

What an experience. It was the best. The welcome, the service, the food were all excellent. We would like to make a special mention of Aaron Jones. What a delightful young man to have front of house. He was very knowledgeable, polite, attentive and made us feel very welcome. Thank you Aaron.

Great atmosphere, but was a part of a party of 12 so kind of made our own atmosphere,lovely staff,good choice of drinks,however,not so good if driving.food of a reasonable standard but a little pricey,

Stopped here by Chance whilst on a Long Road-Trip. Ordered 2 almost identical Baguettes for Lunch. Without Exaggeration; it took about 45 minutes for the food to come! They weren't busy either! The Food was Absolutely DELICIOUS!! QUALITY Ingredients used! Tried to book for Sunday Lunch (travelling 20 miles each way); but they were Fully Booked!!

Very nice location , nice and very educated staff , we stayed also over night in a very welcoming room , but the food wasn't what i expected, and i believe can be improved, the steak could be better ,not the best quality of meat ,in my opinion two star for steak, the salad also can be improved, the chef put 2 or 3 leaves of salat with 2 tomatoes and that's the salad , thank you.

I spent a few hours here today. I sat on the couches by the bar. It was quiet as most were outside or eating upstairs and I had a peaceful and relaxing time. I ordered a ham baguette which was prepared and served promptly and was delicious. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Food was lovely, but we were not told that instead of garlic bread with our 3 x lasagne we would get a single substitute bowl of chips for 3 of us to share when we had already ordered a bowl of chips as a side. Doesn't take much to: a) ask if we would be ok with another bowl of chips or something else. b) This place is expensive (£20 for pub lasagne) so substitutions aren't really what you would expect without some sort of lip service to say sorry or offer something else. But the lasagne itself was very good and tasty, strong flavours.

Very lovely atmosphere in the resteraunt. The waitress gave us the perfect amount of time for me and my friend to decide what we wanted. The little zoo was just phenomonal, such a unique place in a lovely, quiet, and beautifully secluded area.

Lovely place. Food excellent. Staff were lovely. Definitely would return.

Lucky to have this place on the doorstep... A beautiful venue run by, wonderful staff. Great food and drink. A cozy place in the winter and stunning beer garden for the dry days and summer. My niece had her wedding reception here also a few years back...it was fantastic. A huge added bonus are the feathered and furry friends out back in their mini-zoo! Handy...a community gated park next door for the kids too! What more could you ask for? If youre reading this...Get over there...as soon as you get chance!! Highly recommend x

Sunday lunch at the end ofour weeks touring. Excellent service in a beautiful environment. The food was excellent, good quality home cooked roast and a delicious pudding to follow. We would Highly recommend a visit. Classy without being pretentious...

A country pub with a small animal 'zoo'! Great for children as well as adults. Food was plentiful and hot. Staff approachable.

Finally booked a table at pen y cae inn zoo on the back to be greeted by Lovely staff stunning place was landed ..... then dinner was served we looked at each other felt deflated as 6 batons of carrots n 15 peas n a sprout of brocoli was expected to be between us tiny slice of meat half roast baton of parsnip in middle of an oversized plate so asked for another bowl of veg n asked for stuffing as missing from plate and was charged 8 pound on top not even a Yorkshire think that would have been 4 pound extra again ....1 half filled gravy boat between us also ? n extra gravy would have been 4 pound on top again nice food not enough of it and relalized should have had starters 1st ...hope what was paid goes towards the upkeep of the poor meerkats 55. 40 wasn't worth it ....... 😢 😭

Very good food for a reasonable price, service was also very good. Lots of outdoor space. I had heard about the animals at the back and just assumed it was a couple of sheep or a goat but there's lots to see.

Fantastic spot for adults and children, the animals are wonderful and the food and drink are of great quality.

Absolutely lovely place we stayed at suit 5, the room was comfortable and very clean beds very comfy, and the bath well could of stayed in it for hours. The restaurant is beautiful staff very friendly great atmosphere and the food was out of this world, met the owner he was very friendly also, the little zoo at the back was an added bonus, definitely be visiting again soon

Had a lovely dinner on a Wednesday evening. With an event going on at the pub downstairs, we were served with all the attention needed. The food was great in both quality and presentation. Additionally Aaron and Lloyd were excellent hosts.

They fit me in last minute right after kitchen closed; very friendly and kind. I was very thankful after such a long day and traffic. Wonderful pub. Highchairs available for little ones and overflow parking available if parking lot is full. I ordered chicken curry with rice as well as hot chocolate, making sure to tell them I am gluten-free. You can pay by cash or card. Outdoor and indoor seating. They also own an inn next door - I didn't stay there so I cannot review it. I felt comfortable in the pub part of the establishment that I wouldn't mind giving the inn a try in the future.

Fantastic roast lamb, mashed potatoes and green beans. I sometimes have panic attacks eating out but I had no trouble eating all the food here! My only minor criticism is that the portions of mash and beans were very tiny and a second veggie like carrots would have been nice - the portion of lamb was huge - and there was no option of roast potatoes. But beautiful food. The zoo behind the pub is lovely. The baby crane was so cute!

Always recommended our quests at “The Waterfall Country Escape” to visit the pub. The zoo in the beer garden is fabulous to witness while enjoying a glass of cider!

It took a little while to take our initial order, but understandable as it was mega busy. Great atmosphere i the pub, really friendly staff and really good food.

It was busy as our visit coincided with the annual Pen y Cae village carnival. Even so, service was pretty good and the food was excellent.

We found this place when looking for somewhere to grab lunch after a visit to the Ape Sanctuary and we were not disappointed. Food was INCREDIBLE. We had the fish and chips (huge portion) and the steak burger, pretty sure the bun was soaked in garlic butter - absolute game changer. Honestly better than burgers I’ve had from actual burger bars. Service was friendly and fast, and it’s worth noting there was a local carnival on, and though we are far from locals, we were made to feel extremely welcome. Would 100% go out of our way to come back here next time we’re in the area.

Food service ends at 5pm which we didn't know as were visiting the area for a wedding, but they squeezed us in about 10mins beyond which was a real time saver as we had 2 kids to accommodate too. Lovely staff.

Called in for lunch on a family outing, staff were lovely finding us a table as we hadn't booked and it's a popular busy place. Food was delicious, 4 adults and 1 toddler all enjoyed the meals we ordered. I ordered the gammon and it's honestly the best gammon I've ever had, huge portion so make sure you're hungry, the men in our group were happy to help me out. Staff are so lovely, friendly and welcoming, we will definitely return. Granddaughter loved the little animal garden area which is really pretty. Beer garden looks like it would be lovely on a sunny warm day.

Would like to revisit but on this occasion called in at 2.30 on a Sunday afternoon for lunch only to be told food service has finished. Would have expected busy pub in this area to be serving all day. Had a drink and went to a harvester

I was part of a group of 9 and we ate here last Friday (5 days ago). What a place! The food was excellent - I had the burger and it was epic - next time I go back I want the curry, the flavour was amazing. Very deceptive from the outside, when you walk in it's massive, with a gorgeous upstairs area and loved all of the pictures/paintings/sculptures/motorbikes that were displayed. What really made this place though was the staff, they really went above and beyond and I have to give a special shout out to Aaron who gave us A++++++++ service, what he didn't know about the food and drink menus probably isn't worth knowing - absolute legend. Thank you to everyone at Pennycae Inn, we will be back!

Had a lovely afternoon at this delightful pub with family. Didn't eat this time altho we have before and it is lovely. Great staff, always willing to help. Relaxed atmosphere and the farm area is an added bonus when you have 5 children with you.

50min delay waiting for the table was not a good start but the place was refreshing and atmosphere was good will try again hopefully the delay will not happen again.

Stunning location and building with a great atmosphere and very good food. Downstairs is a lively and friendly bar area, upstairs is relaxed and quiet restaurant seating. Service was friendly and polite. Food was very good, great produce and served quite quickly. The menu isn’t particularly big, which I think is a good thing. The only negative is I couldn’t find the menu online. The website doesn’t do anything other than give basic info and is not interactive, no menu on Facebook either. However, this is only a minor inconvenience as I like to look what’s available beforehand. Still won’t deter me from going again.

From the moment we stepped into Suite 5, we were enveloped in luxury. The room was impeccably designed, offering both comfort and elegance. Every detail was carefully thought out, from the plush bedding to the breathtaking view from the window. The food was nothing short of extraordinary. Each dish was a culinary masterpiece, bursting with flavor and artfully presented. The chef's expertise truly shone through, and we savored every bite. But what truly set this stay apart was the staff. They went above and beyond to ensure our every need was met, always with a smile and genuine warmth. Their professionalism and hospitality made us feel like royalty. In sum, our stay at Suite 5 was nothing short of exceptional. We can't wait to return and experience the magic all over again.

This is a brilliant place to eat. A little expensive, but as with most things in life, you get what you pay for. The nicest steak (and my wife said the best burger she's had) in a very long time. Looking forward to coming back.

I personally feel the food on offer here at the prices charged is overrated and under-delivered on. I live in Surrey and the prices here are similar to there. The menu is more creative than your normal pub but I'm afraid the twice I've been they haven't quite pulled it off through their flavours and textures. The proof is indeed in the pudding. A nice atmosphere in a charming building, and friendly service is all very pleasant, but I wouldn't return a third time for anything other than drinks. Out the back there is a car park and a menagerie / micro zoo - how unique. It includes goats, wallabies and many birds. I cannot speak to its ethics, but the enclosures looked large, clean, and the animals well-cared for.

Outstandingly excellent restaurant serving exquisite food. Must visit. Staff are wonderful far beyond anything close to normal service. Lloyd you are definitely worth your weight in gold! Cannot wait to return, even if it is via the snow covered mountains of the national park!

Everything about Pen Y Cae Inn is exemplary! The surrounding countryside is breathtaking. The inn itself is very charming, with an eclectic collection of art on the walls and a lovely fireside seating area. We went on a Sunday, and the menu included an array of roasts that any meat-eating patron would swoon over. I had beef, my wife had lamb, and my daughter had chicken. We all say ours was perfect, portions were generous, and service was attentive. Our only regret was that the mini zoo was closed for maintenance. It was a wonderful visit.

We had the venison as the sole was sold out and coley is not as nice. It was a bit dry and the sauce was disapointing. 2 carrots... really . At £27 a meal id expect it to be at a high level. Dissapointed.

Sadly the valentines set menu was very over priced at £55 per person (drinks excluded). No option to order anything from the main menu without adding a starter and a dessert for an additional cost. Food was okay but definitely fell short of the price tag. Staff were friendly but sadly that’s the only positive.

I haven’t visited the Penycae for a few years, and it didn’t disappoint!! Extremely lovely staff, very quick service, lovely atmosphere and food was perfect! Definitely recommend. We went as a couple, there were families there and downstairs is dog friendly!

Wow first time there so glad I went what a unique , classy and quirky place it put a smile on my face. Would have liked to have seen more options for vegaterians and breakfast would be a nice edition, the children's pasta didnt come with a small slice of garlic bread ,payed 8 pound for a bowl of pasta. But if this could be improved i would say best place i have been to . Cant wait to come back in the summer and also enjoy the gardan and animals and a sunday dinner.

A little gem at the foot of Bannau Brecheiniog. We had a Saturday lunch, including the pork fillet special, gammon steak and veggie curry. All dishes were well seasoned and considerately presented. All were delicious. Staff were friendly and attentive. Real log fire to warm your toes. Highly recommend. We'll definitely be back. Henrhyd waterfall is very close and worth visiting either before or afterwards.
