In answer to your rude reply to my original review Mr Hennighan I am not that customer who you accuse me of. I have complained to you before yes but not ever online for people to see as the meal we had was not up to your better standards and the fish was chewy and the batter was not good. We have never ever asked for bigger fish at all and we have justly so complained about the low standard of our online order and increasingly smaller portions. If I pay for large chips this is what we should get not a few scraps. The fish cake was inedible and the chips were aweful. What has gone wrong with your usual standard? My complaint is legit and I expected an apology not an attack. As loyal customers we are disappointed with your attitude and if you are so confident with getting customers we wish you luck but this is not the way to treat people. I see other people have said the same so you are hit and miss at the best. Sorry to see you go downhill as we normally rate you highly and travel to see you but we will go where people get their act together.

Hennighan's Top Shop was closed so we went to the Bottom Shop instead. We weren't disappointed gluten-free fish and chips cooked to order with the rest of the order served at the same time to take out. Will definitely call again.

Great to find a gluten free menu with several options, freshly cooked. And the large pot of tea between two of us was lovely and generous. Will be our go-to option when we pass through Machynlleth now!

Smaller portions, so buy more than you need, this place is 10/10

Great chippy. We sat in the restaurant side of the 'bottom' chippy. Lovely fish and chips and friendly service.

Absolutely best haddock I've had service was great and great value

While travelling across Wales, we made a pitstop at Hennighan's. We parked in a large pay and display car park to the rear of the shop. Upon entering, the staff were friendly and polite, and the shop was clean and tidy. The haddock was thick and delicious in a light, crispy batter, cooked in sunflower oil. The Nando's seasoned chips were a delight. The curry was particularly sweet, though it did have a nice spicy kick. There were even small potato donuts, which I’m sure children would love. The star was the pea fritter, cooked in the crispiest batter and packed with flavour. We ate in the restaurant and the quality of the fish and chips was excellent, although we did have a bit of wait for food, hence three stars for service. The chips were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The fish had a perfect crispy batter and was really well cooked. Staff were really friendly. Menu has plenty of options so my daughters could have a smaller portion whilst I could go for a full portion.

It's one of the best fish and chip shops I've been to in a long while. Im a pretty simple man, so large chips and large sausage, plenty of salt and vinegar. I think the one I ordered was called the bigfoot. Was a decent portion, and the sausage was massive bigger than a normal large. Was piping hot and awesome, tasted brilliant. Staff were friendly and quick service. Next time we are on the way to the beach, we will be stopping again.

Fast service and decent food and prices

Working in Mach and just fancied chips, quick search and this place came up, can't rate anything else but chips were perfect, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, no horrible taste of grease or fat, for me the perfect chip, very reasonably priced too

Lovely chips, but large portion size it isn't. Read other complaints on here and would agree with some of their points. It's about time a standard was put on portion sizes across the country.

My wife has just been in the shop and ordered sausage and chips fish bites and chips twice and the chips you get with the meal is not good enough for the money you pay

Yet another quality place we have found whilst visiting the area 😀 Finished our weeks stay with fish and chips .. I had a large haddock which tasted great with a good portion of chips .. also we had a small cod .. this was under sold as was almost as big as my haddock and also fish bits ( portion of 3 ) also good serving . The batter was crisp and added to the taste and again good portions for all . STOP HERE and get a great night's meal Will add good selection of cold drinks to not the lazy 2 choices most offer ..

Food was great, freshly cooked fish. My husband and i ate in and the staff were so friendly, it was a hot day and they even let me charge my fan!! I would definitely recommend....I can see why it's got such good reviews....

Superb fish and delicious chips and generous portions. Perfect lunchtime pit stop.

Foods ok but overpriced. Over £8 for sausage, chips and beans. Paid by card, when collecting the food I asked for a fork, they were 5p and wouldn't accept card. Had to go else where to buy a fork. Their prices and behaviour stink of greed. Tighter than a ducks.... Foods just ok, for that price should be exceptional. Portion barely big enough for one and I'm not a big guy. Prices for forks were not clearly displayed and when it's an essential item in the process of eating, your staff should definitely be asking if you need one. Its 5p and you've lost a customer over it. Very poor customer service.

Had fish and chips, fish was lovely and fresh but chips were a bit dry. Portion size was good and price of just over £10 to eat in is reasonable.

We visit this chippy every time we stay in Machynlleth. We always go for the large haddock (cooked fresh by the owner)with chips and mushy peas. Food is top quality, the place is always clean and staff are always friendly and helpful. What more could you ask for👌

Order was initially wrong, when I asked if they’d forgot to add an item (or if I’d forgotten to ask) I was ignored, maybe it was the English accent. Chips are fine.

My wife and l last visited Hennighan's on 4th January and ate fish and chips in the dining area. Food was excellent, staff very friendly and service very efficient. Well worth a visit.

These ladies looked after me properly after a difficult day out. The warm welcome, the friendly chat were much appreciated and topped off with tasty food served with a genuine smile. Gravy wasn’t bad either!

Lovely fish/pie and chips. Our family of 5 were accommodated in the seating area and made to feel welcome. We ordered our food and didn't wait long. All the food was hot and nicely cooked, good portion sizes.

Stopped on the way to Borth Sausage and chips was lovely very good fair play. Only negative I asked for gravy and when I got back to the van no gravy 😢

Shame I can't say this is the best chippy in Ceredigion anymore:( I've tried it three times since it moved before writing this review. Plss sort out your cheese portions...we pay enough. One slither of grated cheese on each chip is not acceptable. I've even had to question them about it and all they said was it's measured out and we can't do anything about it. Your menu shouldn't be misleading either..one price for cheesy chips under the large selection is pretty sneaky. I could make a few more comments but the owner is a nice guy...I just hope the money doesn't carry on going to his head and he keeps food quality and customer satisfaction a priority.

Sadly this place has gone down hill especially since moving to here. It was by far one of the best chippys around for a long long time but today that isn't the case. Skimpy portions of cheese if you ask for chips and cheese. Bearly any salt even when requested. The gravy was just brown gloop.. For how much the chips cost this shouldnt happen. I really hope this changes soon as they were by far the best chippy around. We will see 🤞!
