A first visit to Penny and Lou - a warm and friendly welcome, efficient service and an excellent breakfast/brunch. Not a huge menu, but perfectly served and good value for money. Will visit again.

Today I purchased several lunch boxes for a girls reunion to take the stress Out of food prep. I ordered the graze and afternoon box and a dietary requirement box for a friend. Penny and Lou exceeded themselves in what they delivered as the dietary requirement was not one intolerance but three and they rose to the challenge and produced and vegan, dairy free, soya free box. I’ didn’t even get a chance to take a picture as everyone tucked straight into their Lunch. Great selection of sweet and savoury, thanks For making our post lockdown catch up stress free. X

Nice and relaxed atmosphere for breakfast. Very friendly and food was great. A perfect way to start the day! I would definitely recommend. Have also tried the cakes through the takeway service during lockdown and they were very good too.

I visited this lovely little cafe a few months back (before Covid) and the staff were so friendly and I loved the idea it was a family run business (mum and daughter). They had a nice selection of sandwiches and some sweet treats for after. I'm a sucker for homemade cakes. Oh and a great tea selection as well. I'm not round these ends much but now I hear they're open again I will definitely pop in for a bite to eat soon.

We visit Penny and Lou’s quite regularly and I can’t recommend it enough. The atmosphere is lovely and the food is fantastic. On my recent visit I had a lovely prawn sandwich which was rammed full of prawns! The gentleman that I take has always been welcome and he has enjoyed every meal there.

Went into B Stortford today and ventured out with the Great British public. As I walked into shops and food halls I was uncomfortable with the lack of intrest in safe pratice. What a joy to find that Penny and Lous cafe was welcoming and gave us infomation about when the table had been clean and there was evidents of separation of customers. My partner is asthmstic and felt relaxed for the first time in the day. The added bouns was customer service and excellent food.

So lovely and very cute decor. As a new mum this is such a nice place to meet other mums with our babies. Had a tuna Toastie and cake it was really tasty and reasonably priced. The selling point for me are the high chairs and food pouches/kids food they sell. Shame the play area has had to go because of Covid. Also noticed other reviews about a minimum spend... there wasn’t anything like that on my visit so I assume that’s changed. The town needs more places like this.

I visited Penny and Lou today as a first time visit and a first time lunch trip since lockdown and it was lovely. The lady who served me was kind and polite and very prepared for social distancing. There were multiple hand sanitisers and the lady running the cafe had a prepared a track and trace note book just in case. The food preparation area was clean after every customer (as far as I saw). The food itself was fab and in my opinion very cheap. I would highly recommend this cafe especially for people who are concerned about cleanliness and COVID-19 but also want a delicious lunch. Love from the ditzy teacher who sat by the window.

Penny and Lou’s is a brilliant, much needed cafe in a town full of fairly child unfriendly cafes. Run by a mum and daughter team, they offer everything from great coffee to baby led weaning lunches to amazing cakes. The kids corner is packed full of toys and books, and it’s a safe, clean space to let the kids play while you recharge. Anyone moaning about the minimum spend clearly doesn’t want to understand what it means to support a local business, and any comparisons to Coffee Corner are ridiculous; Coffee Corner is pretty filthy for a start (I once had a mouse run over my foot in there), and the “play area” is a few books and toys. Long may Penny and Lou’s thrive, it’s saved my sanity on many a day.

Always looking for child friendly cafes, this place appeared to be perfect, especially in a town with a lack of. They have a little child friendly corner with books, toys etc, great for keeping a child busy whilst grabbing a coffee. Or maybe not... When going to pay, they actually charge you for using the toys!!!!! (You don’t get to keep them or anything) Mums/Dads/Granparents must spend at least £7, whereas anyone else in there, for the same amount of time without a child can just buy a coffee for £2/£3! The toys look like they’re set up as an enticement for parents to have a coffee there, but it’s actually a chargeable area; which is a complete joke as it’s a little corner with a few toys in, and this isn’t sign posted at all. They act as if they’ve made a large investment in a soft play area and are really quite rude about it too. Definitely avoid as a parent, go to Coffee Corner just over the road.

The place is okay - however if you dont want to spend £7 quid per person (enforced minimum spend) for a coffee and a few toddler distractions from a charity shop then I would avoid! The food choices, atmospehere, service and cleanliness are comparable to the many other coffee ships on Stortford High Street. If the thing you want is a few toys and a small space for toddlers to play the coffee corner, less than a hundred yards away, is far superior (and they, like every other coffee shop in the uk, dont have a minimum spend). https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g609066-d3668598-Reviews-Coffee_Corner-Bishops_Stortford_Hertfordshire_England.html

We have visited Penny and Lou a few times now since it has opened and it is a great place to take toddlers. A pushchair parking area and play area for children are very useful when you want to have something to eat and not worry too much about the little one(s). Our daughter enjoys playing with the toys and the staff are very friendly. It is conveniently located on the way into town and has a good menu of sandwiches, wraps, soups etc. I would definitely recommend the chicken and sweet chilli sandwich.

This tearoom has the most scrumptious cakes. Everything is homemade and the place is lovely and clean. Love their breakfast sandwiches too!
