Penelope's Restaurant in Bexley

Lovely atmosphere & waitress was so friendly & food was excellent and good value for money.

I was told about this place to get a coffee and something to eat but I will not be returning as I came in and all I wanted was to sit outside with a cup of coffee and a pastel and I was told that no food outside I had a dog with me I bought him a doggie ice cream went and sat outside were there are picnic tables signs up saying picnic area I am writing this as I am finding it difficult to understand why you can't eat outside the coffee was awful the customer service was terrible staff just not knowing what their doing as soon as I walked away from getting my stuff I said to myself I will not be returning.

If I could I would give NO rating! 3 adults, one toddler and a newborn in a pram booked a table for 1:30pm when we arrived we was told our table was being laid, 10 minutes later and we was taken to our table which was a booth seating area with a table of 10 directly next to us so had no where to place my newborn, when we informed them we couldn’t sit there the lady replied ‘sorry didn’t read your notes’ as we stated in the booking notes one toddler & 1 baby in pram. We was then sat in another area which was covered by a canopy and we was asked if we wanted to sit on what was a bistro table… again we said no as all of us would not fit to that table so we was told get a drink sit at the table and wait for another table to come available, half hour passed and we was still sitting to a table and no one had come by to inform us about a table, I made a suggestion to the lady and she said she couldn’t as she had a booking of 17 sitting to the table in question but she said she was going to check for another? Still no table, and we was forgotten about! I could tell the service was going to be shocking as the people was rushing about like headless chickens. Shocking service well 0 service and so we left and no one even noticed probably done them a favour and saved us wasting our money and time.

The chef cooked the food to perfection and is a very kind and humble guy

Food was delicious and good portion sizes, however service was incredibly slow and chaotic so didn’t feel well looked after. Overall nice place to visit and Farmshop enjoyable to look around.

Had such high hopes for this as the atmosphere and decor is lovely. We’re regulars of the soft play next door and the food there has always been decent and well priced. Popped in for lunch after soft play yesterday and was disappointed. The only saving grace is that the majority of the staff are helpful and friendly, and the female supervisor did her best to accommodate us on a busy day. We ordered 4 kids meals (reasonably priced and big portions) and 3 adult sandwiches and chips (£10 each). Drinks took about 20 mins to arrive, kids meals came out about 45 mins after ordering with multiple issues and the adult meals were nowhere to be seen. Turns out they’d never been put through. Adult meals didn’t appear until over 2 hours since we sat down, and when they arrived it was a few cheap fish fingers in bread and a ham and cheese panini that looked congealed as if it had been half cooked and reheated. Asked for a new one and it came back as the same one reheated. Female supervisor was lovely and helpful, offered our adult meals to be taken off the bill but when it came to it had to have a bit of a battle with the manager to get this as the original 30% he gave “is a lot” even though it didn’t cover the meals, and “I have lots of wages to pay” at an attempt to make us feel bad for asking for what was offered. At no point were we any less than understanding that it was busy and there was new staff, but didn’t appreciate the attitude whilst getting it resolved and it’s really put us off going back. Also just as feedback for the restaurant, and an FYI for anyone with allergies, there’s zero allergen information on menus or website, weren’t offered an allergen information pack or menu and staff weren’t very confident answering questions.

I loved everything at Penelope's Restaurant & Farm Shop. Especially if you live in South East, this place is a must to visit.

It may have “new management “ but the service is still terrible. We waited 20 minutes for our drinks order to be taken whilst 4/5 servers wandered around. Food was ok, nothing special for a farm shop.

Like many previous reviews this place could be amazing…. However everything is so disappointing. We arrived at 9.45am for breakfast just the two of us and at 11.20 walked out having still not being served our food. Coffee arrived cold, with a young nervous lad who accidentally slopped the drink across the table, young waitress who was under pressure & trying to do her best was the only member of staff who was going round the tables apologising for the lack of food or being unable to take new orders as the kitchen was so behind. When we asked how long for our food even if it was to be a further 30min away she was unable to confirm and said her manager would come .. she never did. So we left. Shame on the management for not facing their customers & supporting their young staff who clearly were left trying to cope with an impossible situation this morning.

Great good, fantastic decor and Demi is particular was a fantastic host. She took my kids behind the counter to make ice cream and made their day. Big portions and best Caesar salad I’ve had

What a find, really good setting, lovely modern decor, great menu, fantastic polite staff, a must if you're in the area. This place is made for the summer, and it will be rammed when the weather improves.

Me and my partner went for my birthday brunch. Absolutely stunning location, will incredible in the summer. The food was lovely. Staff was so friendly and welcoming, plus very accommodating. I can't wait to so back and try the oven pizzas. I've heard they have lots of plans for summer so really excited about that. Theres a lovely little farm shop which great produce and things to buy. Oh and the cakes taste... unbelievable! A must!

Had a lovely walk around 5 Arches then lunch at Penelope's. We and our dog were made very welcome - fresh water made available for the dog. New owners and extended menu with lighter snacks. Food was excellent. Would highly recommend. Will be back next week.

Our first visit to Penelope’s, but it won’t be the last! We chose the delicious vegetarian breakfast and the veggie burger for a weekday late brunch. Both options were beautifully presented and delicious. We also treated ourselves to desserts: so many tempting cake options, and an entire ice cream bar. Particular mention to our lovely waitress Michaela who was very attentive and friendly. If we lived closer, we’d be here every week! Highly recommend.

Friendly and polite staff...food was really good. The english breakfast was delicious with really good quality ingredients. Price was slightly above average but that is reflected in the quality of the food..... Will be going there more often from now on.

Poor service. Very small portions for price. Cost for lunch and breakfasts are high for what you get. Best of going into Bexley village and eating at the deli or restaurants offered there for same price.

This place used to be lovely. The breakfasts and lunches under Kelseys farm were second to none. The farm shop was well stocked with wonderful produce. It has changed soooo much sadly and not for the better. The prices are honestly ridiculous for what you get, and quality is not a patch. This is local to us and a great setting, it's a shame. I hope that reviews are listened to and owners can make improvements that serve the community again.

Currently closed for unspecified maintenance with no details as to when it is likely to open again. Very irritating as I had walked 40 mins across muddy fields to get there. However, this is in a nice setting and the grounds are very attractive but the inside and paved eating areas don't seem quite right somehow and need more attention to detail. The outside seating areas are large but the seating area inside is rather cramped. The tables inside are far too close together (probably as the central pizza oven area takes up so much of the space) so that it's almost impossible to get a baby buggy through. The service can be slow, especially when sitting outside. The range of produce in the farm shop is very limited. A shame as it is in an excellent setting and it could be an excellent venue with a few improvements.

We visited Penelope's for the first time during the Christmas break, for a Family Birthday meal and couldn't have been happier with our choice. The décor was just lovely, warm and cosy and very Christmassy. The food was top notch, we shared various Pizzas and Pastas which were enjoyed by all. The singer was amazing, add to this the great service, and a perfect afternoon was had by all. We will definitely be returning to Penelope's in the near future.

Great atmosphere and lovely food with friendly staff. Decor was to a high finish and the pizza oven was a warming feature.

Stood at the entrance for a fair amount of time and was completely ignored by various members of staff who saw us but continued to stand around/drink behind the bar. What terrible service!

We really wanted to love this place. The setting, decor and ambiance were full of promise. Unfortunately the servers seemed inexperienced. I could see the waiter walking around with plates with no idea who ordered what. The food came before the drinks, and we had to keep asking for them. We ordered starters, sunday roasts and pizzas. The starter of pumpkin soup was ok, once you added plenty of salt and pepper to give it taste and didn’t come with any bread or rolls. The Caprese salad was basic and without dressing. The pizza’s were nice but basic options. The roast, unfortunately, was totally unacceptable. The potatoes tasted like they were cooked yesterday and reheated a couple of times. The gravy was watery and veg limp. The meat was the only thing we could eat. For the price, we expected a lot better. I am hoping that they are still finding their feet but I won’t be back until they do

We were really excited about the pumpkin picking, and the pumpkin side of things was great. The dinosaur maze was just a giant abandoned corn field (shaped like a dinosaur, apparently, but you really couldn’t tell…).However, my issue was with the on-site bouncy castle which my three young kids were playing on. Halfway through their “go”, the woman “in charge” started saying “get off get off, the generator is going”. The castle started collapsing immediately and I dragged my kids out screaming and terrified and pummelling eachother to get out. There were tiny children in there getting trapped. My three year old had a black eye and was terrified. I went to complain to the person in charge - but there was only a young boy representing the farm who said the bouncy castle company were not affiliated with Beck evans. The woman told him that “the parents weren’t listening”. It was an appalling experience and zero responsibility was taken. 10 minutes later the woman had the bouncy castle up again.

Worst roast I’ve ever tasted! The beef was basically finely sliced packet beef and only two tiny slices of it hidden under the Yorkshire pudding. The whole roast dinner was swimming in gravy which made it all soggy!! Can’t even say it was that busy...

We visited today for Sunday lunch and it was absolutely beautiful. I had the chicken and partner had the lamb. Tasted homemade, probably up there with one of the best roasts I’ve ever had. Service was really good - quick, and the waitresses we had were lovely and accommodating. I always forget about this place, we’ve been previously for breakfast too which again was incredible. Visited on Sunday for the first time without reservation, were given table for 4. I really wanted to enjoy this place as it looks lovely indeed and tried my best but was really disappointed unfortunately. Had vegan pizza and it was nothing special, row in the middle. Had brownies for desert and adult and child side were absolutely the same, adult with cream, kids-with ice cream. Had to ask for replacement latte as first came too watery to enjoy. I would give even 0 stars. I went with my family and friends, ordered drinks and food. Only part of the food arrived. Although we warned the staff a couple of times they never checked for real if our pizza was in the oven or not. After getting bored to wait for two pizza we gave up. Such a shame that although they have high prices their customer service is so low.

We have been here several times now hoping each time it would have improved, only for it to be the same or worse each time. The staff are clueless, unhelpful and often just far too young and untrained. Every time we've been we are told something different about where they do and don't serve food, where dogs are welcome. The food takes an age to come out and when it does its in dribs and drabs with sometimes 20-30 minute between individuals meals. We've been left dissapointed time and again. We won't be giving it any more chances.
