Wow. We are lost for words. We discovered this place online on Friday morning and travelled for an hour to get there. We had an absolutely amazing time. We loved it all. The farm shop, the cafe, the butchers... everything. Our waitress was a lady called Louise. She was lovely and friendly, she sold us the menus, told us more about the local area. She really is an asset to the business. Unfortunately we were unable to buy flowers on this occasion because we spent over £100 quid on food. We 💯 % recommend this place. It is very expensive, but for a treat it is worth every penny.

Had lunch in the cafe on Saturday. Staff are very friendly and they went through the menu, as one person in the group is gluten free - lots of good options are available. When the food arrived we were all happy with our choices and the food tasted fantastic. The staff are very friendly and there was a lovely atmosphere and we never once felt rushed. We will definitely return again in the future. Highly recommend!

This looked like the perfect spot for lunch after dropping our daughter off at Stansted airport. The restaurant is very pleasant and has indoor and outdoor dining options available. Unfortunately the food was not good at all. I had the crispy duck on Asian slaw - the duck was very fatty and the meat was tough. My husband had belly pork on Asian slaw - the pork was very bland and not as tender as it should have been. The asian slaw was basically just shredded red cabbage and grated carrot with a couple of pieces of pepper in. The dressing was not evenly distributed - I had a strong ginger flavour to mine but my husband’s had little flavour. Both dishes needed either rice, couscous or bread to make a balanced meal. Over priced and disappointing.

We always return to Pearce’s for the lovely atmosphere, helpful staff and delicious food. This time around we had afternoon tea and it was delicious! You get really good unlimited drinks included and they catered to vegetarian needs easily. It was honestly lots better than really expensive, fancy afternoon tea that I’ve had. The shop is so lovely and it’s a lovely place to go!

Staff were polite but the service was so slow and the breakfast was cold and average 😞

We visited the cafe for lunch today. We had booked in advance knowing how popular the cafe can be. We were greeted warmly, shown to a nice table overlooking the lovely view and served promptly. The food was delicious (cheese soufflé and chicken/mushroom pie, followed by scone and bread and butter pudding), served hot and quite quickly. The waitresses really zoom around but still have time to be smiling and pleasant. We have been coming to the cafe for many years and it is consistently good - good food, good service with a smile and good value for superior quality food. We had a walk around the farm shop which is full of tempting delicacies as well as super fresh vegetables and fruit.

I went today with two friends and we were absolutely flabbergasted when , after being asked if we wanted dessert and more drinks, our cups were cleared away in haste before we had time to finish as we had overstayed our 1.5 hour limit! We were unaware of this limit despite the rude waitress insisting it is clearly stated on the web site. (Clearly not that clearly as we’re not the first to raise this). When I asked if I could finish my drink first, I was told they would pour it in a take away cup for me. The manner in which we were rushed out and told off was appalling. But they were very happy to take our payment for drinks we didn’t manage to finish! Appalling behaviour and ruined our day.

Might be a vegetarian farm shop cafe but dogs not allowed. Nothing on the website to advise, and so easy to miss the no dogs sign as it was behind a pile of shopping baskets. The Family partook of some food inside while I stayed in the car with a dreadful takeaway coffee from the place - the milk had been burnt steaming it. I grabbed the risotto quickly - it was bland. My daughters burger was cold. At least we won’t have to leave the dog at home to eat here again as it wouldn’t be worth it.

I asked our server if we could move out of the rain to an empty table i was advised that this was not possible as all tables were reserved. So our food arrived which was lovely but i had to consume mine whilst being rained on . During this time the tables that were reserved remained empty. Needless to say we did not stay for desserts nor coffees. Upon payment i pointed out my dissatisfaction but was not really offered any recourse. The tables were still empty. I very much enjoyed the farm shop and we bought a fair amount in there, however the cafe was quite simply a let down due to a rude staff member who presented herself as the manager I think. It was a first outing since lockdown with my mum and dad and my 3YO twin daughters. We thought it would be something very special. I phoned to book and stressed twice that could we have outside seating as my mum and dad are very concerned about covid and being indoors. I ended the conversation stressing the point again and was told that 'yes yes, don't worry of course'. When we arrived the waitresses straight away said it wasn't possible to have an outside table as there are no notes on the booking (as if to say it was our fault). The manager then came over and proceeded to say in a very stern and rude manner that it was impossible to sit us outside. My dad then gently said that it was a fault of theirs and we didn't want to stay inside. She kept saying that 'we make mistakes' but getting in an increasingly aggressive manner - she even blamed it on her colleague (who I presume wasn't there) that "I know who it was, she's Italian!). She then proceeded to try to turn it around to tell us off for coming into the restaurant the wrong way through the shop, even though we went to the toilets first to wash our hands- which I thought was wholly unproffessional. We were then discussing what other options we had amongst ourselves and then she said well I can sit you outside. So clearly not impossible! There were two other free tables outside the whole time we were seated. It made what I wanted to be a special experience sour. Not once did she come over to apologise to us or offer any thing in way of consolation. I didn't particularly want to stay after the confrontation as I couldn't quite believe the tone of her voice towards us but my mum and dad were quite hungry at this point (it was a 3pm booking that they could only do). It is a shame as the views are lovely and I wanted to come back to try the afternoon tea with my husband but I wouldn't want to be faced with such rudeness.Having said all of this, our waitress, Andrea did make up for it somewhat as she was extremely friendly. The food was O.K and a bit over priced.

Unfortunately the manageress of this establishment made every excuse possible not give us a table, making excuses such as the tables are all reserved and it would take too long to serve an afternoon tea. Even when we asked if we could just have a coffee and cake instead she still made excuses and said she could not fit us in even though there were a few empty tables!! Not impressed. Spent quite a bit of money in the farm shop but obviously our money is not good enough for the cafe! You would think that in these uncertain time’s that snobbery would take a back seat....beware if you’re not in your Sunday best when you visit!

My daughter treated me to afternoon tea as an early Mother's Day gift and what a wonderful treat it was! I've been fortunate enough to take afternoon tea at some very elite establishments but have to say that I enjoyed Pearce's afternoon tea just as much if not more.A top tier of warm savoury tasty bites and a fresh prawn cocktail, a middle tier of fresh flavoursome sandwiches and blinis, a bottom tier of pretty cakes and pastries with a side dish of freshly baked scones, cream and jam. A large pot of tea for two which poured with no drips or mishaps, (very important and something far more expensive places fail to deliver). For the first time ever we ate it all up because it wasn't too heavy or too sweet and sickly but just right.Service was friendly and attentive despite the cafe being very busy. Often I find a table of two women can be overlooked but not so here. The cafe is warm and bright with a lovely view over the fields. Before or after a wander around the shop looking at all the wares on display is a must.Absolutely delightful from beginning to end. Treat yourself.

The chips were nice and crispy, would say it would've been nice with a salad on the side. One of the best things is that you can go to the shop afterwards and pick up some of the cakes and pastries which is nice to be able to bring something home with you. A lovely Saturday lunch!

I had lunch today after a meeting, and the staff were friendly, lovely setting and good food. The shop is vast and although not cheap, there’s a huge variety of interesting produce there and you get what you pay for. I’d definitely recommend it.

My wife and I have been frequenting the Farm shop for a number of years, and the personal welcome and fantastic service stands out each and every time. The shop is always stocked extremely well with fresh and seasonal produce - and it is a credit to the management team who are always stocking the shelves with interesting, seasonal and tasty treats. Whilst the fresh food is faultless, the frozen section, cheese selection and cured meats are wonderfully selected. I am a window shopper at the best of times, but always walk away with something I probably shouldn’t when I visit here. The cafe in my opinion, is outstanding. It is definitely advisable to book - which speaks numbers for the combined quality of food and service. Being involved in this industry - understanding the sheer volume of customers they regularly look after with such high standards is a testament to the deserved success Pearce’s have achieved. We go out of our way to dine here at least once a month, be it for breakfast or lunch. Time and time again our expectations are met and surpassed. There is always something interesting to choose from, and whether it is a comfort snack that you can have all year round, or a seasonal special that is slightly more luxurious, I am never disappointed. Today, we popped in for a slice of cake and I was blown away by the Duck and Hoi Sin wrap; a simple dish, but executed so well with a great amount of care to flavour and presentation. The atmosphere in the Cafe is vibrant, and rightfully so; a full house is a full house, but fortunately the tables have great space, so we have never felt on top of anybody else, especially when we bring our three year old son. The familiar faces of the exceptional front of house team are always so accommodating, friendly and offer brilliant service despite often being at full capacity. In essence, this is the perfect place for a quick bite, long lunch, coffee and cake - or sublime breakfast (try the smashed avocado on sourdough with poached eggs - add the black pudding, you wont regret it!)Congratulations to the Pearce family and a huge thank you to each member of staff that try so hard - you lot are the best! J

Visited Saturday for lunch, ordered the winter roasted vegetable salad, very bland, the vegetables were just boiled and tasteless not roasted and nicely caramelised, at nearly £14 was not worth the money a few bits of crispy flat bread and lots of lettuce.

2nd visit here. Good choice of interesting meals, freshly cooked and served in generous portions. Had haddock, spinach & poached egg on sourdough toast - yum. Wide selection of delectable cakes, with gluten-free options available. Staff are helpful and obliging; they always seem to be friendly and efficient. Prices are very reasonable. There is a shop next to the restaurant. This is full of foodie delights but also stocks beautiful fresh fruit, veg and plants. It’s a good place to find quirky and unusual gifts as well.Spotless toilets.Ample parking, as it’s set in lush countryside.

Really disappointed to find the farm shop and cafe closed on 27.12.19 when the sign on the gate and their website said they were open. It's a waste of my time and fuel. I came from another county to this establishment. I understand that they want to give their staff a decent break over Christmas and N.Y. but they should not mislead people into believing that they are open when they're not. It's a poor show. Potential customers and a white delivery van arrived while I was here to find locked gates, so it's definitely not just me who expected this place to be open.

Should have heeded warning bells when checking in as long wait and then had to prove we had booked a table. A real lengthy interrogation! The batter on fish resembled sponge, very soggy. My complaint fell on deaf ears. There was definitely a lack of management present. So a very disappointing christmas lunch.

Came with my son as I was treating him for Christmas. Had lunch- no alcohol or desserts. The bill came I was more happy to just pass over my card until my son stopped me and questioned why it was so expensive. When checking the bill we found that a dessert and a bottle of wine was added to our bill. We called the waitress over and questioned this. She then proceeded to inform us that the table next to us didn’t pay their bill in full so to make up for this so they don’t have to pay for it themselves that they have added it to our bill!! This wasn’t by mistake it was very bluntly told this way to us. I of course did not pay for this! Please be aware as I would of paid if my son hadn’t checked.

Went on a Monday and nearly all tables reserved. We were able to be accommodated but it was clear we were an imposition! We were practically chased out of the cafe. Never felt so unwelcome and its such a shame because it is a nice spot, our food was good and it's a good little shop. The staff are just rude! They really didn't like us being there as mums with babies (until there was a fantastic marketing opportunity when we had the babies outside dressed as pumpkins that is). Really wont be rushing to return ie recommending. Second experience here like this.

Have been to Pearces farm many times, we generally go afterschool, we are aware of the opening times, every time now, we are made aware of what time they shut( we know)constantly. We are told drinks machine are shut down just after 5pm. We are told we are shutting soon, we always make sure we are gone 10-15 minutes before shutting. I won’t be returning. We are even told we are shutting as we try and walk out of shop to car park. Seriously guys, just put a sign up at 4.40om saying you don’t want clients.

Service was friendly and efficient. Food was excellent the Avocado on Sourdough with poached eggs were delicious cooked as requested. Scrambled eggs on toast was very good. We had a very leisurely breakfast in lovely surroundings. Had a look in the shop on the way which had some lovely gift idea's might have to revisit soon.

An unmissable spot for real ale drinkers in the area who want the more traditional pub experience of good company, good surroundings & good beer. Fullers ESB & London Pride are 2 of the 3 regulars & are always spot on. Dark Star's Hop Head makes up the 3rd & there's also a couple of guest pumps in circulation. The landlord & customers are always friendly and the pub itself is beautiful & full of character (mind your head) with a split bar & a large upstairs area.

Not sure where to begin, suffice to say we had a very SURREAL experience at this place. I will start by saying that my friend and I regularly work as Mystery Shoppers in restaurants (we weren't doing so today) but we do know exactly what to expect from both the food and the hospitality aspects. My friend ordered a chicken salad, and I ordered 10 of their wonder wings. Please bear in mind that we were ALONE in this pub for the duration of our meal. After 35 minutes, I am approached to be told that they only have six wings prepped, but that they could make up the rest with chicken chunks...(I agreed to this) Why does it take 35 minutes to work out you don't have the number of wings requested in the order, especially when it is their ONLY order? When my friend's salad arrives, it was lacking a fair few of the ingredients described in the menu. (Crunchy garlic onions replaced by raw onions that my friend could not have, no parmesan cheese, no dressing, etc. We had to order mayo on the side to make it palatable) But the worse was still to come!! After explaining our disappointment about the various issues and asking whether their would be some form of gesture of goodwill and being told 'no' as we 'really' hadn't any issues...we entered into the most surreal situation... Without going into huge detail because it would take far too long, the manager/landlord, after agreeing that they should have told us about the lack of wings available right at the start, proceeded to DENY saying so just 5 minutes later! IT WAS UNREAL. On top of that, he would not let me talk, saying he would keep talking over me for as long as it was necessary and doing so in the rudest manner imaginable. Even having the nerve of calling me arrogant! Needless to say, this gentleman is definitely in the wrong trade. At this point, and after trying to get some sense out of him and the evolving situation, I said that my next port of call would be social media. In a spooky set of circumstances, their card-machine stopped working and wouldn't take our payment... Suddenly, we were told to leave without paying for the food (right gesture, too late) and never to come back. The irony of that!! I would strongly recommend that you give your business to any of the many other food/drink venues in Bishops Stortford, rather than to this establishment. They certainly do not know what hospitality is or what it takes to run a successful pub.
