Ordered a banquet for 1. Chicken sweetcorn soup watery with a few pieces of chicken and a few bits of sweetcorn. Ribs not much on them Spring rolls nice Special curry watery no flavour whatsoever with chips that were full of eyes and soggy. Waste of £15. Only used Paul’s as the best chippy Terrys wasn’t open today.

Not good for Chinese meals. Lack of ingredients and very sparse with a base sauce that seems to be the same for everything. Subsequently everything tastes the same. Miserable staff too but they do seem very busy. I have used this place for a few years now but since the pandemic it has gone down hill. I need a new chippy.

The food was cold and inedible. The doner kebab came with no vegetables or sauce & no pitta or wrap. The meat was overcooked & dry, straight in the bin . One fish was all batter & the other was raw. Chips were warmed up and black. Tried to get through to complain & gave up after 1/2 hour. That was £32 down the drain. Would never buy anything again from this chippy. This business has been taken over recently & not to be confused with another business of the same name, about 2 miles away.

We we're delighted to find a great takeaway, Paul's, last year when we moved into the area. English and Chinese we thought was delicious.. Unfortunately the last couple of meals have been bloody awful. What ashame, won't be going again .

Absolutely gutted. We’ve been coming to Paul’s for years and that was genuinely the WORST food I have had in a very long time. Cold, slimy chips. Donner meat was uncooked. Just vile. Won’t be visiting again. What a waste of £30!

We have been to Paul’s a few times before before lockdown etc, and always found the service, food and prices good. Tonight ordered for delivery, ordered a bit earlier than the time we wanted it to be delivered, and it turned up at bang on the time we wanted it...not many deliveries in this town can get that right. Food was ace, the same great service even on the doorstep. Cannot recommend these guys any more. Cheers Paul’s

This is one of the best Chippy’s in Widnes, the staff are great and I’ve never had a bad meal from here - I’ve been a customer for years. The minimum card payment spend of £10 hasn’t put me off as until very recently it used to be cash only anyway!

Unfortunately We will not in the near future go here again due to the £10 minimum spend to use card payments.I’m sure most banks only charge for chip and pin around 2.75% ( rough guess) Shame as we where regulars, we will just go else where.Food wise it’s always been great with no recent issues so this would of got a top marks only for the card payment amount.

Got prawn fried rice and my husband got mushroom and prawn fried rice...neither of us could eat them because the gastrointestinal tracts hadn’t been removed and were full of poo! Usually a good chippy but won’t be ordering that again

Won’t be going again. Had to spend £10 to buy fish and chips for two which should have cost £7. Ended up having to buy 3 fish which was far too much for two people and most of which ended up in the bin. Googled this practice and it goes against the directives set by the banks. Owners should seriously look at these charges the banks don’t charge £3 per transaction

Fab food. Cooked fresh, Shame about having to wait half an hour. I thought that £1 extra for a meal with fried rice is very expensive

Never fails to supply nice local chip shop meals, great range and busy most times. Parking very difficult you may have to park down the road, big plus is that you can pay by card.

I’ve just been abused by a drunk at 5pm in there waiting for food,The staff just looked on and did nothing I’m absolutely seething I’ll not be going again which is a shame because the food is great but the customer service is abysmal

Had many nice dishes from here and love the basic fish and chips.Staff are always great and never got home with a wrong meal.Best news we can use our cards which is absolutely great as it means we don’t need to go out of our way to find a cash machine. An other local chip shop stopped card payments so several of us stopped going there.This place gets busy and parking is difficult.

Wouldn’t go anywhere else, food is always spot on. Fish, chips, sausage etc all good and fairly cheap. Chinese meals are all absolutely lovely, great quality and portion sizes. Staff always friendly and very hard working. Would defo recommend 👍🏻

Absolutely disgusting found hair in the food chicken wasn’t even cooked correctly it was hard and pink would not recommend atall! Completely over priced!!

Have used this chippy a lot over the last few years and usually the food has been ok but the last few visits I won’t be going back and it’s all to do with the state of there chips. The chips are disgusting over cooked and reheated they are full of soggy oil and taste awful. One of the Chippy owners has got a terrible attitude as well, we will be going elsewhere in future.

I love this chipshop, have done for many many years, the men are lovely always happy to help. However there is a bunch of young girls that work in there and to be honest they look like they're in the way. The only people I ever see doing any work is a lad in glasses,tall dark chubby lad and a foreign woman. If it wasn't for them I think half of the queue on weekends would turn away. Lovely food and lovely management also.

The chip shop has a very large menu, included no Chinese takeaway dishes. It is always extremely busy which tells a story. Good at what it does.

I am 50 and fat, so have eaten takeaway a few times in my life, i thought i would try this one and so purchased Fish,) Chips and spicy/hot Curry, when the staff wrapped the food and virtually threw it on to the counter, i wasn't impressed but thought i could ignore that if the taste excelled, sadly the Battered fish was soggy and the curry was more like a gravy (bland and no spice at all) it may have been an off day for them, I wont be going back, so will never know.

Great staff, we moved chippys from cronton fish bar 2 as it had got really odd tasting and tried Paul's, always fresh, never much of a wait... great chippy tea!

Ordered a chicken chow mien and it was awful chicken was very fatty and grizzle in it 😩 sauce was like a watery gravy not nice at all my favourite chippy but tonight has really disappointed me

Always buy from these guys and not once been let down! Food is always fresh and very tasty. Suitable for whole family. Menu is huge - with lots to choose from. Staff are very friendly even when extremely busy! Keep it up guys! ;)

Love having our fish and chips from here. Just once a month we have this treat and the fish is always excellent. Always freshly cooked.

We love this chippy, and visit most weeks on a Saturday. The food is always freshly cooked and nice and hot. The staff are really friendly too.

Very sad when Paul passed away. Glad Sud is keeping up the standards. Banquet is a favourite and the soup is the best ever! The lunch time menu makes Fish n Chips an option every week! xx

Nice local chippy, probably the best in this area of Widnes. But more expensive than some of the Chinese rivals but probably better too. You get what you pay for.

Just what you'd want and expect from fish and chips. Prices not extortionate, and while not cheap, Paul's is in tune with the pricing at other chip shops in the area. Really handy if you live in Farnworth or are spending a day at Victoria Park. The only downsides are that the peas look unappealingly green and that it closes every day for lunch, which is an issue when I'd like chips mid-afternoon (which I have to admit I often do!).

Been going way out of our way to get food here for quite a while. Usually really nice there's a sign up new chef here now. Well we thought the food can't get better it's already great. Well it's not now it's horrid we ordered king prawn cashew the prawns were white and tasteless. The sauce was gloop with no taste at all. We also ordered beef Szechwan extra spicy the beef tasted odd not like beef and tough. The meal wasn't spicy at all what a total disappointment. We are going to go one more time to see f this a one off. After that if things have not improved we will have to seek out another takeaway. The new chef obviously needs the sack.

My family have been customers of this chip shop for years and apparently they have awards in food hygiene. How I have no idea.Tonight we ordered x2 spanish omelette with x2 boiled rice. I was only a few bites into the omelette and suddenly I bit into something spongey and had an extremely strong taste of a stale cigarette in my mouth. I could not believe that a cigarette was in my omelette however when I spat it out, low and behold, there was a cigarette butt that had been cooked into the spanish omelette.Incensed and disgusted we took it straight back still on the plate. The manager wanted to keep the actual plate it was on too (no idea why-it was our plate from the cupboard) so he refunded us for both meals (we were all put off by this so the rest of the meals went into the bin) and a bit extra to cover the cost of the plate.While we appreciate the apology and the refund, this is still completely unacceptable on so many levels.Cigarettes should not be in areas where food is prepared, cooked or served. Food establishments should have designated smoking areas outside so the only way that cigarette butt could have entered the building (let alone into the pan) is by someone either bringing it in or smoking in the kitchen. Bad hygiene practice by staff is not accidental and that is why we are so angry about this.That cigarette butt I bit into had also been in someone else's mouth which is disgusting! what if that person has an ulcer? a gum infection? a virus etc? I do not want a spanish omelette that includes a dose of someone else's mouth germs!To add insult to injury, I have warned others about this and a friend has just told me her mum saw the chef with a cigarette in his mouth while cooking once while waiting in the car outside as my friend was picking up the meals from inside. This would explain how I ended up with this in my meal if this is how this chip shop is ran.We have had many meals from here and always been happy but if the standard of hygiene has slipped so low and the staff have such disregard for their customers then we will not be going here again, god knows what else is going on in there. They should at least have the hygiene award stripped from them!!Absolutely disgusted!!

Nice Chinese food, served quickly, good sized portions. Can be very busy at peak times so pre-order before you go.

Out of all the chippys in widnes, definitely my favourite! Order from here regularly, both Chinese and English food. Great for kids. food is prepared quickly and of the same standard every time.

Seems nice and clean and we've been using it for the past 3 months or so on a weekly basis. Good fish and chips and decent Chinese options, We think its the best one in Widnes, although Marrie Barrows is very good if you just want the traditional English only menu.

All seams good value but the parking is a nightmare. Also some of the staff could do with covering up body adornments as tattoos and the like don't appeal to all.

Fantastic value for money. Myself and my partner always get salt and pepper chicken pieces, boiled rice, Cantonese sauce, and he either gets a mixed grill or special fu yung. We alway ring an make the order and its always been ready in about 10 mins then we go pick it up. It does get quite busy but I think that's testament that its a well known fantastic chippy. Hi all i walked into this chippy one friday night there where about three people at the counter, so i waited my turn when i got to the front of the qeue i said salt n pepper ribs please, the girl said why didnt you order hem before and walked off to order them. on her return i said sorry but you where all busy so i waited my turn, she didnt reply. so i waited about 15 minutes and said is my order ready she said about 5 minutes he has to cook them specially, ok thanks i said 10 minutes later a guy behind the counter said are you being served ? i said yes i orderd ribs about half hour ago so off he went into the kitchen and returned ( by this time about 15 people had been in and gone some with meal orders) he said (ha ha sorry i have to laugh...). they will be about 5 or 10 minutes he has to cook them specially, twice i said cos that girl told me that 25 minutes ago he then said do you want a free bottle of coke. i said no thanks just the ribs that i orderd half an hour ago so needless to say i now go elswhere. mind you if your a local who buys chips and free batter bits your ok.....

A cracking local chippy. Nice chips, reasonably priced and the Chinese meals are top notch. As others have mentioned the salt'n'pepper stuff is lovely. It does get busy at peak times but worth the wait

Not my idea of a great Friday night at all... Put in a normal (so I thought) food order.. 3 meals.. Ended up waiting for 45 minutes... Awful service, not even an apology... (some before me had received a bottle of cola for their shorter wait. All the woman said to me was "Do you want a menu, then you can phone your order next time" -I had not complained or muttered any grievance at the time - may be I should have doneGot the food back home and was not impressed one bit.. My lamb dinner was short on chips, peas... but had plenty of watery gravyNot good - wont be returning. Try the River Queen instead is my tip - they have never let me down over the years, for service and quality of food

We just love their fried rice meals and the kebabs are pretty darn good too! Their portions are never scrimpy. The staff are always welcoming too. Love it!!

very very slow to serve you even when not busy and small portions compared to other chippys even other owned by the same people.

This chippy is good & the staff are polite but the other pauls on on Lower House Lane has better portion sizes.

I live quite near this chippy and never get bored of it. Their salt and pepper dishes are amazing! Gets very busy at weekends so I suggest phoning your order through.

my hubby and i are regulars at this chip shop, the meals are always gorgeous and they dont scrimp on the portion sizes. the fish is always so fresh and i dont think iv ever had a time when iv not cleaned my plate. definalty the best chippy weve ever been to. top marks.
