Patt-Thai in Newport

As ever! Absolutely stunning food. I have never tasted anything so good in my life. Genuine authentic Thai food cooked from scratch. Love everything about this place A* Sadly no photo because I needed to get it in my belly as fast as possible 🤤 Thank you x

How disappointing to have been treated so poorly by a local business that we actually supported almost weekly for a long time. YESTERDAY when we called querying where our order was after 1.5 hours (an email told us it would be with us in 40 mins but we thought its a Friday , we will give an hour and half before calling as we knew they would be busy) As soon as we called we were met very rudely by the woman on the phone, presumably the one who keeps replying angrily to anyone to give a review she disagrees with. Instead of apologising for the delay I was told no its in the kitchen and that the driver is driving very slowly. And then said basically do you want a refund or wait. If she had apologised we may have let it slide. Instead she hung up twice and basically told us we should expect a 2 hour wait for food. Its not normal by the way , we got food from another place within 40 mins of cancelling. I want to set the record straight that we have not been given freebies from this company ever and actually are very surprised by the response we received as they were always so kind and friendly before, in fact they asked us for feedback as we were so regular to help them improve. Unfortunately the service has gone downhill since first ordering from Patt-Thai. Service is poor, in fact non existent and the food has gone downhill to the point that it doesn't even feel remotely authentic. Thought we'd give Patt-Thai another shot, however after waiting over 75 minutes for food, we were told that 'its a Friday and what do you expect' and 'the driver will be another 40 minutes' followed by the staff hanging the phone up. Obviously, we rang back asking for a refund and there was no apology or sincerity in regards to this issue. Obviously, weekends are busy but waiting potentially 2 or more hours for a simple pad thai is not acceptable. Obviously the owner will respond with their ridiculous excuses/remarks given that they can't take criticism very well as seen from other comments, but frankly that's the bottom line. Shame, as 3 years ago, we actually gave them a good review and did used to order from them. Unfortunately, the standard or care is diminished and sad to see yet another potentially good restaurant in Newport offer next to nothing. Ps. Giving 'freebies' is not the same as forgetting somebody's prawn pad thai and forgetting spring rolls and then delivering it an hour later. The expectations are that you order food from a menu which is set by you (the owners) and then people order from the menu and expect that meal as described to be delivered but in your case that doesn't happen. I also never said it was microwaved so not sure where you got that information from and I will continue to enjoy cooking authentic Thai food at home with recipes which I learned in Thailand. Top Quality food and very friendly staff. The red curry duck and green curry beef with sticky rice are amazing, will definitely visit again!👍

I just collected a soup to eat which was a takeaway so required a spoon as I am travelling. No spoons which ok, not the end of the world as could elegantly tip the plastic tub into my mouth whilst avoiding covering my face in the vegetables. The place looks like it’s closing down or running 5 different kinds of businesses to sell products. The free crackers were just given so that I have to bin them and the soup just had out of date vegetables and a bland taste. I have been to Thailand many times and many Thai restaurants in this country. I make this better at home for sure. Would not recommend!

We just had Chicken Penang and it was amazing.. only thing was that the rice was all stuck together (only kidding), we had sticky rice with it duh.. which was perfect BTW. I read a load of reviews on here before we visited and nearly all of them were top notch, with the exception of a couple of negative ones, , but they actually made me want to visit Patt even more because I loved her great responses to twits complaining because they were use to eating bland food. I can confirm that the service was excellent, food fantastic, authentic and full of flavour. Thanks Patt, we may have only been passing through, but we will visit again and appreciated the cutlery. Another fantastic meal. Waiting for us at the time requested. Beautifully cooked and so fresh and authentic. Chicken wings to die for . Hag our usual mains of green curry, red curry and a noodle dish - zummy. Thank you.

This restaurant hides children in their basement. Very disappointed with this. There was only 1 kid there. I usually expect 6 at the least!!! Very disappointed with this kid called Maaipai Gumslee who is said to touch young children and is fed 3 times a year. Won't be coming here again and I wouldn't reccommend it to be honest.

After waiting two hours for food, we were greeted with raw chicken, not undercooked, RAW. We called the restaurant who wouldn't speak on the phone, my partner then drove to the restaurant where the staff in the shop wouldn't issue a refund and when he commented on how dangerous it is and could kill someone, they told him to eat it and die. We were not issued a single penny and have reported to Newport Council.

We ordered green thai curry, patt thai, chicken wings and egg fried rice. We asked for extra spicy and they added the perfect amount of spice for us. All dishes tasted authentic packed full of flavour. Really impressed with this takeaway in Newport! Hopefully they can soon reopen their sit-ins. Really enjoyed the food!

We ordered a takeaway today. A Pad Thai, a Pad Med Mamoung, and Chill Squid starter. Absolutely excellent. We do recommend. Will being ordering again.

Picked up a delicious meal last night, we ordered 3 dishes every dish was so tasty, the spice was spot on for our pallette. Food very hot and fresh! Looking forward to the next take out! Highly recommend 👌

Delicious Thai food. Quick and tasty.

Well worth a visit for Thai food lovers. The service is first class and so’s the food. A well run kitchen that you can set your clock by. Everything is made fresh to order whether eating in or take away. Definitely not one to be missed. If your ordering takeaway make sure you order early as they get busy

Ordered food at for a 9:00 - 9:20pm delivery window. It finally arrived at 10pm. Chicken rolls had been substituted for veggie spring rolls. Disappointed that the restaurant didn’t phone me to check about the substitution and let me know they were running late. The food was insanely hot. We enjoy Thai food and hot currys from Indian restaurants but this was something else, so beware if you’re ordering a spicy dish. Spring rolls had a leathery texture, rather than the usual crispy batter. Left feedback on Uber Eats app and had no apology for lateness or substitition, just a flippant reply.

Please do NOT order from here!!!! I ordered through just eat and was given a waiting window between 20.55-21.15 At 21.25 I called as it had not arrived and I really can’t explain how terribly I was spoken to by the man who answered. I am genuinely shocked. He was vile and so angry that I asked where my food was. He even told me never to order again... never heard anything like it in my whole life.

Not authentic, boring plain and not like real Thai food.

Waited 2hrs for the food delivery and when it finally came it was cold. I got the tempura out of the bag and about half a cup of grease poured on to my table. The tempura veg was in a big soggy ball dripping with oil and the batter wasn't crispy at all- it was all literally swimming in oil. The chips were soggy and cold. It put me off trying the red curry so after cleaning up all the oil that got literally everywhere, I called to complain. The woman on the phone didn't give a toss and the first thing she said to me was "you're not getting a refund". She then went on to tell me that I didn't know what tempura even looked like and also said that if I was in a restaurant I wouldn't get a refund either... I told her that her attitude was really bad for business and I would be writing a bad review. I think the good reviews on here about how great the service is must be written by friends and family (or people she's paid) because this woman was so rude. I felt like I had just handed her 20quid to insult me. The food was inedible. I tried the red curry when I got off the phone which was supposed to be spicy... it wasn't at all and had so much grease floating on top and half the ingredients missing and the ingredients which were there were cooked to death. There was not one thing fit to eat in my dinner tonight and I will never be going back there.

Always have lovely tasty food and accomodate gluten free too. We tried the new Glass noodles tonight and they were lovely 😀

The food here is so tasty, never had a bad meal. They customise it for you and the lady whom runs the place is very friendly, welcoming and makes you feel valued.

I've ordered from here a few times now and have always been let down. A poor imitation of the real thing. Very little flavour in anything, and minimal attempt to use any Thai ingredients or veg. The 'Thai salad' was just a normal salad with sweet chili sauce on it. Even the sweet chili sauce with the spring roles, which costs pennies, was watered down. You'd be better off going for an Indian at the same price, much better quality, and for twice the amount of food.

No other words such a nice restaurant. We can trust them with the service and quality.

Patt thai are one of the best food places in Newport. I've had food from them probably 50+ times since they've opened. Food is always delicious and hot. The Staff and the owner are always super friendly. They go out of their way to accommodate and always let you know about delivery delays etc. Don't pay any mind to the few bad reviews on here! It's definitely not the service I've ever received and I've placed a lot of orders with them. Go on give them a try you definitely won't regret it.

Ordered food at 1500 today to be delivered at 19.30. No one turned up. I rang at 19.45 and received very poor customer service from a young chap who didn't want to know and said they were too busy to speak and the owner wasn't there. Could I ring back when they were less busy and my food was being cooked fresh right now? Furious I rang to speak to a manager and was assured the food was now on route. Only 5 minutes after the last call. So obviously lying and no one was available to speak to me. I therefore decided to cancel the entire order based on poor customer service alone. 5 minutes later I was contacted by the owner who was very abrupt and offered no apology. "We've been busy do you still want ur food its with the driver" I explained i ordered the food at 3pm online for 19.30. Now 20.10. She offered no discount or apology and was rude mannered so I therefore cancelled the order. Shame as I was really looking forward to the food and it was recommended. I appreciate times can be busy but don't lie or be rude. And prioritise those who have ordered early for a dedicated time slot. Very poor

Don’t order from Patt-Thai if your expected a nice Saturday take away. We were recommended the restaurant for its great food but unfortunately never actually got to try it. We ordered a home delivery at 6 and was told it would take 1-2 hours due to how busy they were, we accepted but after calling up at 10 past 8 we were then told it would be another 40mins to an hour clearly have not processed the order. At this point we’ve already waited two hours and then tried to explain that if they were that busy then they should have not accepted the order and that would have been fine, they were also very rude on the phone rather than apologetic. Won’t be ordering from there again.

Deliveed 1hr30 minutes later than promised. Ordered salt and chilli prawns, received squid. Duck, discussing. Pad pik Khing, completely in enable. When I phoned to complain, I was told that I should be grateful that I had food delivered during covid. I'm discussed and will never order anything ever again.

So we ordered a takeaway from them and the estimated time was 50 minutes then we had an up date which add 30 minutes on top of this. Then 10 minutes after it was meant to turn up we gave them another call to find out where it was at and they added another 40 minutes on.... So the order was going to take over 2hrs, this would of been fine if they said that from the beginning rather then making up times as and when we called!!!

Fabulous Customer service informing us that they were very busy and meal would be delayed so we agreed a new order delivery time. When the meals arrived they were hot,very tasty and fresh.Everything was presented well and had good flavour ! Will order again.

We ordered a take away from Patt Thai and it was fantastic. I had the see aew beef, crispy tofu, satay chicken and crispy spring rolls and it was all cooked to perfection, extremely tasty and clearly freshly made. Will definitely be ordering again and would highly recommend.

Great food, reasonably priced and quick service.

We ordered a takeaway at 7.30pm. Rang at 9am as we were hungry and didn’t know why it was taking so long. The man I spoke to said ‘it will be there in 15 mins’ so we called back after 30 mins. Told (the same ignorant man) my postcode who said ‘oh because of lockdown we can’t travel there’ which is incorrect because we’ve had takeaways delivered from the same town. He would not let me speak on the phone and was incredibly rude and obnoxious. Instead of apologising and understanding our frustration, especially given we’d already called earlier that night, I don’t think I’ve ever spoken to someone who liked the sound of their own voice. Totally awful service. Won’t be ordering from there again, which is a shame because the food is actually okay. Note: To the rude man - please go and complete training in customer service

I have been wanting to eat Thai for quite some time and stumbled across Patt-Thai. We placed our order at 5:15 and I was expecting a long wait based on previous reviews, but got a call to say my food would be ready in 15 minutes (collection). The only inconvenience was not having cash, so having to pop a few doors up to get it took a few extra minutes. The food (Pad Thai) was very tasty and we would definitely order it again - but maybe minus the chilli flakes. Looking forward to trying other items from the menu in coming months.

We ordered a meal at 17:15 to be delivered from 18:30 to 19:00. Did try to be really patient and didn’t call until 19:54 where the update was that the order will take 45 minutes to be delivered. At that momento we were already tired of waiting and really hungry but even when tempted didn’t cancel the order. The order never arrived, the driver claimed at 20:50 that he had just delivered the order. Where? To a random address, well done. All too messy, unprofessional and tiring.

been twice now - excellent thai takeaway and very good value too. The chu chee pla (fish in coconut curry) is incredible. Staff are friendly and welcoming. In short it's my favourite Thai in the Newport and Cardiff area and well worth a detour.

The person who took the order was very rude. They didn’t want to take our order because they didn’t know where the only Travelodge of Newport, the city centre is, despite we gave them the full address. We ordered noodles and we received sticky pasta instead without cutleries. And the deliver driver left the food on the ground without passing to me (no for COVID reason). We didn't enjoy the food. Avoid this place.

We order from Patt- Thai because the food is so good. Having travelled Thailand for 4 months and returned for holidays, it is a firm favourite of mine and so it is so great to find somewhere that serves authentic tasting food!

We have just returned from enjoying a really superb and very reasonably priced meal at Patt Thai. Small and unpretentious, this is a hidden gem with really authentic Thai dishes. Go and eat, you won't be disappointed. We'll be going back!

My first time going to Patt-thai and I couldn’t be more impressed, the gentlemen was quick to greet us, seat us and serve us, we were made very welcome. The food was amazing, my first time trying pad Thai and I could quite happily eat it every day! A lot better than food I’ve had at much more expensive restaurants for more than half the price, you literally cannot ask for more. I would recommend it to anyone and will be returning very soon 😄

Had an amazing, truly authentic meal here with family. Great service, too. Bring your own alcohol, there's a small charge per person but not much. Really recomend.

Been here several times and absolutely love it. The food is a mixture of incredible flavours. Recommend the corn fritters, chicken wings, pad thai and panang curry. The service was also great. Note: they take cash only but there's a cash machine very close.

I had a flyer thought the door last week and thought I would try this place out. After all it has great reviews. Very disappointed , the delay in the food arriving just went on and on. Ordered at 6:20, told it would be here at 6:50pm. The website suggest you call if no food has arrived after 45mins, well guess what no food, so I called, what a waste of time, told he would contact the driver and get back to me. Well no call back and the food arrived after 1:40mins, really not that good, very soggy and I have seen more chicken in a subway baguette. I think 2 stars is generous, and will not be using this place again.. stick to what you know....

Too expensive for what is basically fried rice

Visited here for a family lunch. Service and food was excellent. All ages from 3 to 90+ left fully satisfied. Excellent selection for gluten free as well. Thanks for a great meal.

Unhygienic food and bad customer service

These guys know what they’re doing! This is the best pad thai I’ve tasted this side of the world. It’s our go to for Thai food.

I chose Patt Thai as a deliberate alternative to the chain restaurants dominating Newport’s town centre. From the moment we entered it was clear I was in for a treat. The owner was welcoming and accommodating. Giving suitable suggestions and alternatives for my two boys 5 & 3. The food arrived and the boys tucked in, for 10 minutes I didn’t hear a peep from them as they tucked into to their noodles and duck pancake rolls. Their verdict they didn’t like it they loved it!!! All told a well priced tasty Thai treat, such a shame it isn’t more well supported..

Very friendly service. We had a super wvening. Just arrived in Newport and didnt have a clue where to go. Very cosy and casual. Nice straight forward menu. No alchol served but corkage allowed and off licence next door. Pad Thai and tofungreen curry were top nnotch. Cheap, decent food, clean. Great value

Do not order a takeaway from here, ordered Pad Prik, description was meat with onion, mushroom, chilli and spring onion, not a single mushroom in sight, red and green peppers and carrots in dish which was not advertised, and only half a container of food, juice was like water, also ordered Key Mow with chicken, had to hunt down the chicken and found 2 tiny pieces, rang to complain and they made the excuse they had run out of mushrooms, I put the order in at 5.25pm on a Saturday evening.....really???? Will never order from here again, dreadful service, and expensive for what it is.
