Paternoster Chop House in City of London, Westminster

The food was good considering the more affordable price compared to others in the region. I ordered a steak sandwich for about £20 but the meat was hard to eat. Service and atmosphere were fine, though, with no St Paul view! Beware, they had such a view in their previous shop, not after moving into this one.

Cancelled our reservation 1 hour before we were meant to be dining. Didn’t realise until after we showed up to the restaurant, and saw that it was closing shortly after we were meant to be seated. Very poor and we left immediately. Also must’ve moved location since filming first dates, looks nothing like the show.

Fantastic service, great food, good atmosphere to be in,very enjoyable.

The steak is very delicious and I highly recommend it. The staff was friendly and my daughter (6 years old) was able to enjoy the meal with us.

I went to Paternoster Chophouse for coffee to host a meeting and the staff created an exceptional experience for me. They are all very well trained and kind people, everyone I spoke to was incredibly hospitable and went above and beyond. They flexed their opening hours to accommodate me as well. It highlights the importance of service and how the overall experience makes you feel. A particular shoutout to Martin who made sure I was happy and had everything I need. It was a great hospitality experience and I will be back. The food looked epic as well!

Certainy recomend. It's a larger, vibrant restaurant where the greating was prompt and real. Overall the service was super attentive with spot-on recomendations which were not necessarily at the highe end of the price range, the Malbec was excellent and the steaks were cooked as orderd and as tender as expected. All courses were spaced out well, not rushed or too a wait. Sides served cleanly, with quality bread and butter an appetiser. Recommend.

I would honestly recommend just avoiding this place. We booked our table 2 weeks in advance and were told at the door we would have to order fast as the kitchen was closing, we were on time. We were asked about allergies which one of my party had, and they told her with a straight face all that they had for her was ‘broccoli, spinach or green lettuce’ I honestly thought they were joking but they weren’t. It was too late to find somewhere else so my friend was unable to eat anything other than what you would essentially feed to a rabbit. We were told a side came with the main we ordered but when we were given the bill were charged extra for these, when questioned staff just shrugged. Service was slow and there was only 3 tables in the restaurant. Staff were rude and unfriendly, food was mediocre at best. Asked for a espresso at the end of the meal to be told they were no longer serving drinks? No longer serving drinks?! The only time in my life I have ever asked a waiter to remove the service charge! Clearly living off the hype of First Dates but not delivering on any part of it.

Unbelievably delicious, had the Steak, the Burger and recently the Liver. Starters are also amazing, the Pork Belly Sausage roll!!! Yum!

Our first visit to Paternoster chop house and were very pleased with the experience . It was very quiet probably due to a lack of money just after Christmas .Restaurants we passed in the local area were equally short on clientele. One downside of this was that some menu items such as Oysters and catch of the day were unavailable .However the food we had was very tasty and high quality.The service was good and the server gave a good recomendation for my steak . The overall cost was comparable with other restaurants in London .My wife chose the fixed 3 course menu which was very reasonable . Overall a good choice of venue for our overnight stay in town.

Very tasty shared lunch for a group of meat lovers, not cheap but fortunately I wasn't paying! -------------------- Return visit for lunch in Dec'23 unfortunately not so good, one order was forgotten and not that great when it did finally arrive. Wine cost waived which was appreciated, but general experience not up to last time, I think we'll try elsewhere in future.

A chophouse isn’t ideal for vegan food but the mushroom soup was tasty and the vegetable suet main was very good. Staff pleasant and a decent bottle of Rioja

I went to this restaurant a few days ago, the place was very empty as it was between the closing times before 4pm, however, despite there being only two tables with people, the service was extremely slow and charged many extra fees and didn’t make us aware of it. The food was good, but the service and atmosphere was slow and awkward.

I honestly cannot understand how this establishment has got the ratings it had. I ordered a brisket sandwich which resembled a miserable leftover Sunday lunch sandwich from the 80s. Cheap cheap bread, cold hard steak and no seasoning. Service was appalling which was frustrating because there was no one in the place. Stay home and save your cash.

Food was tasty, but expensive for what it was. Not the largest portions, on sizeable plates - pretty basic really. No cider available and table was a bit small for us.

Popped in for lunch. Went with the brisket sandwich. Very surprised to see it come in cheap white sandwich bread that was probably Hovis. Expected home made, or crusty bread. A slice of Tesco Tiger Loaf would have been better!! Whilst the meat and chips were lovely. I’d be worried about a kitchen that let this out the door.

Tasty food with slightly smaller sized portions than expected. Unfortunately the service was slow and we were significantly overcharged (combination of extortionate service fees and a special offer for main/dessert combination that wasn’t applied) which took away from an otherwise enjoyable meal

Enjoyable lunch at the Chop House, food portions were good. We had a nice bottle of wine. Our waitress was really good. Only downside was the chocolate pudding was pretty average. Expensive lunch but was enjoyable.

I booked a table for 9 for a Friday lunchtime. We had the set menu. Reasonable value and food.

Lunch for 5, 4 steaks and a fish & chips. Food was pleasant but not amazing. 400g rump chop with chips at £43 with a gravy. First choice wine wasn't available so had the Rioja which was lovely. Busy for a Wednesday lunch.

High expectations but didn’t deliver. Service was lacking, atmosphere was odd but the food was tasty, what little there was of it anyway. £6 for 8 chips is a little steep even for London.

As a vegetarian I approached this establishment with a degree of trepidation, as it's really caters for the meat lovers more. But I was there as a guest. That said, they had a steamed root vegetable and spinach pudding which was delicious, so certainly ticked the box for me. Service was outstanding.

Went to Chophouse on Saturday 4th Nov. Table for 5 we had the lamp chops, bacon cheese burger and mini burgers they were all amazing.The food was good to perfection. The medium lamb chops were divine. The service and food were amazing really recommend a visit !!!!!

We were on a leaving dinner for a work friend paid by the company. The food is excellent but it is very central London pricing (£18burger, £30 steak) designed for expense accounts. Not a ton of vegetarian options as this place is about meat meat and meat. The place was almost empty so service was quick and efficient but therefore there wasn't really an atmosphere. The design is quite distinctive and there's even a cocktail bar so assume it could be better on a Friday night.

Great Restaurant A lovely restaurant at the bottom of the Old Bailey, you feel the history as you walk down. A warm greeting from awaited us from the Floor Supervisor Alice who took us to a well stocked bar before we sat at our table. I loved the feel of the actual menu, it felt like cowhide which added to the ambience of being in a chop house. Our table waiter for food was Alejandro who was very friendly, and after taking our order and asking about allergies, finished with "no further questions"....given the proximity to the Old Bailey I found quite humorous! We had the sourdough bread, rarebit soldiers, hot salt beef brisket sandwich and the burger, with fries. Great meal, well cooked in the open kitchen (spotlessly clean) by Wesley. Now I am not sure just how excited you can get with fries, just they were delicious.....Like eating crispy air! Our drinks waiter, Yannick, was very attentive and knowledgeable and kept a steady flow of great cocktails. The evening finished with an introduction to the GM, Red. Friendly and engaging and willing to spend time with Customers, always a winner with me. The price point was good, with an option to upgrade if you feel to do so. We will definitely return and would not hesitate to recommend......Thank you Team PCH :)

anything about beef is good, but the rest are mediocre service is painfully slow. Many items on the menu were out of stock. 3 out of 5 of us had re-order a few times. we waited for 30 minutes for our first bottle of wine to arrive.

Quite literally unsafe to eat. The two steaks below were ordered medium rare. Chips also raw and solid in the middle. We didn't dare try the spinach because of the ecoli risk! Oh... Half the wines in the list are no longer available either, apparently. Honestly I feel sorry for the poor front of house staff.

They had run out of fillet steak, which for a wednesday was quite surprising. The food was well prepared and the staff were very attentive.

I had a nice business lunch here. The steak was tasty but a tad on the too well done side. The spinach were a bit bland. So overall ok but not the best steak ever.

Horribly loud and noisy environment, very difficult to hear even with the restaurant only half full. Staff are friendly but forgot about us towards the end. Shame because the food was pretty good.

We visited Paternoster Chop House for the Time Out bavette steak deal. The steak was terrible - extremely chewy and overcooked despite ordering medium-rare as recommended by the waiter. Tasted like overly dry roast beef rather than steak. Very disappointing.

Location isnt what it was but still a really good authentic London experience with amazing meat, good selection of drinks and excellent service

My friend and I had lunch - the restaurant was quite empty. The food was okay - one portion of the fish looked quite small. The three stars is due to the fact that there were some items which weren’t available from the quite limited menu. Price was a bit on the high side as well.

Spent around £180 on this with no drinks including service. Was not worth it. Ordered the oysters, the porterhouse, chips, creamed spinach and sticky toffee pudding. Oysters were not shucked professionally. Had shell fragments everywhere so as I was eating it, it felt like I was chewing on sand. We had to send it back. Apparently it was the chefs first time shucking oysters. Main highlight of the dinner was supposed to be the porterhouse which we ordered medium rare but as you can see in the picture below, the fillet part was well done and only the part closest to the bone on the sirloin side was medium rare. At £12.5 per 100g, this was probably the worst steak (due to cooking quality) I've had in London. Flavour wise the meat didn't really have much flavour but the fat had the typical cheesy taste you'd get from dry aged beef. Nonetheless, it is a 0 star because of the cooking quality. Sides and desserts were great though chips could've been crispier. We did speak to the manager about this. I would suggest that people stay away until they train a new team. Edit: I tried emailing the email provided but it bounced back.

Had a Time Out voucher of some steak, chips and gin & tonic. The deal was good however the restaurant was a bit sterile did not love the vibe of it. Also the sauce could have been much better, the meat was fine and the drink excellent lovely served (a tourist opinion)

Food was OK but overpriced for what it was. Service wS not great. Waitress took a long time chatting g at one table after realizing we were waiting to order. Took another 20 minutes after we completed our meal to get our bill. The cocktails are great however. We won't return.

It’s okay! Great day and unfortunately wasn’t allowed to sit outside even though there was space. Not the best not the worst! Pricey for what it is if you want to buy steak.

Can't fault the food, it was darn good! The service however was really quite slow, which was a bit unnecessary.

My Google map was showing the same point weher is the paternoster restaurant so I went inside the restaurant and I ask from the waiter if he know number 60. the boss suddenly he jump and told me that the food I was carrying to deliver will be cold will be cold.. Then I understood he is racist

Update: I visited the restaurant again for a birthday dinner and the high quality of the service, food & drinks were maintained high as last time! Anastasia & Andy took good care of us, and made me a great Elderflower Cocktail upon request. Was a busy evening, but the place & toilets were kept very clean. Definitely will return for different occasions in summer to try the terrace 😁.

I very rarely write reviews, but I thought it would be good to warn people. I was here on a Wednesday evening when there were only a few other tables occupied - almost empty - but the wait staff left me unattended for long stretches of time, and took more than 5 minutes to get me a glass of wine. When I finally got my filet mignon, it was extremely salty! Fortunately, I had gotten a sauteed spinach side that I could use to dilute the salt to something acceptable. For a place this expensive, I would have expected the service and the food to be good, and it wasn't.

Speechless! It was our anniversary and they made it so special for us with the champagne and little treats at the end. The food was to die for and the service was so lovely! We will never forget that special moment, thank you!

Initially service was good but it really slowed down the restaurant got busy. Slow at delivering drinks and slow at clearing plates. The food was mediocre, we had to send one dish back. They were happy to offer me something else but a shame as not what i really fancied. Overall very disappointing, i wouldn't recommend it.

First I would like to say that the food was lovely - and that's the important thing right? BUT it is no longer on the same site as the First Dates TV series's (it has been closed and turned into offices!) So I was extremely disappointed. I spent half of the time whilst eating my meal trying to figure out where everyone should be - I eventually asked 😢 The decor in the restaurant looked tired - and the bathroom was in need refurb as it was scruffy. Low score due to the disappointment of not being the restaurant I expected more than anything. The food would have got 4/5 stars

Great for working lunch - busy but informal and comfortable restaurant. Great fresh food! The langoustines on the lunch menu come highly recommended as does anything from the grill menu. Well worth a lunchtime visit!

I was surprised how quiet the restaurant was for a Saturday night, but I don't mind quiet! The staff were friendly and the food was excellent - The starter menu is a bit odd so we went straight to the main and then just had sorbet for desert. I remember when this restaurant was based right next to St. Pauls, it's not as busy or as good as it was then, but still worth a visit.

Very friendly staff and great tasting food. I would recommend having the octopus as a starter along with the fresh bread. Both are super tasty.

The place was delightful. Just 11 mins on foot from Farringdon Station. Cozy place and a lovely welcome. We were served by Anastasia. She was so lovely. The steak was exactly how we asked. Nothing to complain. Reasonable prices, nice ambient and the music was for everyone's taste. Defo, we'll come back. Thank you for a pleasant evening.

I came here with a date and we were not looking to eat after a meal. We thought they might not let us just have a few drinks, but they were happy to accommodate us. Not only were the beers of high quality, but the young man served us complimentary olives and nuts. We were very happy with our experience.

We ordered the burger, some chips, drinks (Old Bailey and Not Guilty), and tried the bone marrow. Service took a while but the food was really good! Burger was cooked to perfection, the bun held up really well, and there was plenty of relish. That said, for £5, we really didn't get many chips (triple cooked, though I honestly couldn't tell) They were chunky but we probably got around 10 chips max. They also charged us £4.90 for water which I thought was a bit odd; have never been charged for water (least of all still, not sparkling), and would have expected this to be a menu item if they were going to charge. A service charge was also added, and we were a party of 2. I don't know if this is a normal thing, at least for small parties, but this felt excessive given the price of the food and the fact that we were only 2 people. Definitely check this place out, and try the bone marrow and/or burger if you haven't already! Skip the chips, though, I don't think they were worth the price honestly. P.S: 3 stars for atmosphere because some of the people eating at the restaurant were really loud and it was difficult to hear my partner or the music.

Yes. This is the "First Dates" restaurant featured in the Channel 4, blind date TV show where contestants meet their ideal (or frequently not so Ideal) love match for their first dinner. I can't comment on the food or service but it's a popular eatery for fans who want to say they've eaten there too. Don't expect maitre d; Fred Sirieix to welcome you on entry, He works for channel 4 not the restaurant.

Omar on the bar staff makes a.mean negroni and all the other wait staff were fantastic.

Brilliant food, the burger I had was one of the best I've tasted. It is overpriced though - the food is very nice, but costs 5x the price of a fast food restaurant, and isn't 5x as tasty!
