Second breakfast in here and the latest was every bit as good as the first. Came highly recommended and didn’t disappoint. Full English again, quality food and perfectly poached eggs. Not a trace of grease anywhere. Lovely thick proper toast and butter pats supplied. Tasty coffee and nice friendly staff. I have seriously tried every establishment in Chester that sell full English and this is the best imo. Will certainly try the rest of the home made food menu.

This was our first time in this cafe and it certainly will not be our last. Friendly efficient service and the food was superb in both quality and quantity. An extensive and diverse menu to suit all tastes. Thank you

We often go to Chester-le-Street from North Shields just to dine at the Cafe as Allison, Paul, Neil and staff are so friendly and welcoming. The menu, which we have sampled quite a few variations of are excellent. The scones are so gorgeous we always bring some home with us. It is a fantastic experience.

# update. So I went in for my breakfast , and ordered the poached eggs with bacon on toast. My eggs came out hard and when I told the assistant I got " well you should have said sooner" well sorry but you were too busy out the back laughing and giggling with your colleagues so I couldn't tell you. I left with no food after taking medication that requires me to eat. Shame on you, My how service has changed. Served cold coffee 25 minutes before our food was brought out. The food was still fantastic but the place was so noisy I could barely hear myself think.had to leave asap as was just too much for me . Yhis place used to be Chester-le-Streets best kept secret but now im afraid its not

Avoid at all cost £3,80 for a bacon nd egg butty, what I wouldn't feed to a dog, full of grease, then your told u can't stand in the cafe while your waiting for take out, you have to go round the back, unreal they still have a business very disappointing

I usually have an enjoyable experience at this cafe and have visited many times in the past, however on a recent visit we received cold and unwelcoming service. We walked in with a sign blocking the door, the staff moved it out the way and didn't even say hello. We then waited 15 minutes to be served and ended up having to ask at the counter for a menu. Because this was annoying we discussed amongst ourselves about the poor service. The waitress then complained to other customers at the table behind us calling us rude. We decided to leave at this point and another waitress came up and aggressively asked us if we were leaving. As we walked out the door the customers who the waitress complained about us to gave us a sarcastic wave. Overall experience made us feel like intruders. For staff to complain about customers to their own customers is highly unprofessional and caused further issues. Food good, service terrible.

Visited this cafe today for afternoon tea. We were delighted with the friendly service. Warm and welcoming staff. Unlimited refills on our drinks. Great value for money. Everything was freshly made and tasted delicious. We were given boxes to carry the two cakes we didn’t mange to eat home with us. You must book in advance for afternoon tea and it’s served from 2.30pm. Highly recommended.

Got the last table when we went in this morning , had full cooked breakfast each and a large pot of tea. Quality food and quality staff. Very friendly, great banter and will definitely be back . Susie, Alison and Ian all introduced themselves and nothing was too much trouble. Susan that cooked the breakfast is obviously worth her weight in gold. If you get the chance , pop in. Wide menu with delicious food.

Came in for breakfast - very pleasant traditional cafe with friendly accommodating staff. We were served a generous plateful of excellent locally sourced food in a nice relaxed atmosphere, and will definitely visit again. If you want food or just a cuppa, ignore all the soulless corporate chains and come here.

I go to Passingtime regularly and have never had anything other than excellent service and food. The cafe is clean and pleasant and the staff are always very helpful and make you feel welcome. The meals are good value for money and are well presented. Portion sizes are good and hot food is hot! For a small establishment the choice on the menu is very good. Paul always has a smile on his face and makes you feel like your custom is important to him. I would certainly recommend Passingtime to anyone.

There is no place in Chester-le-Street that comes anywhere near the excellence of this cafe. The food is often home made or locally sourced. The staff are friendly and bend over backwards to tend to individual needs and diets. The only fault is that there are never enough tables for the queue of people trying to get in.

Great home made food, all freshly made. The portions are really generous. A great selection of cakes and scones. Service is excellent, everyone is friendly and helpful. If it's just a cuppa and a piece of cake, or a full english breakfast you want, this is the place to come. Always busy, so be prepared to wait for a table, but it's worth it.

As a customer who has ordered every Monday to Friday and works within a 3 minute radius, I am very disappointed with the service and the attitude with some staff. Had my order wrong on several occasions, each time I asked before taking my food away if my order had no salad or no stuffing and was told 'what you ordered is what you're given' which wasn't the case. Also disappointed with the portion sizes, paid £2.10 for twelve chips. Very very dissatisfied with the food and the service, you have lost a very loyal customer as the attitude and the portion sizes are diabolical.

Was my favorite place util today :(. As A family many of us went.Today after spending £20.00 I asked for a glass of water.Yes, theres a water cooler.Which I was directed too.So I proceeded to have a number of glasses for personel reason.I sadly caught the normally friendly staff cast me and my friend unpleasant looks and complaining about my water intake. When I complained about this. I was told that it was I who should have highlighted the reason why I needed a glass for the water. The manager explained he got the water cooler to stopped people getting free water. Anyway I said to just leave it and asked for my take away food which was a separate order. And was told to get out and not come back. Feeling absolutely devastated at such poor customer service.
